Inspired by the end of year 1 thread and yes, I know academic auccess isn't everything etc I'm just wondering what MNetters DC have achieved, which I expect will generally be above the national average! Grin
DS:
Maths 4A
Writing 3A
Science 4B
Reading 4B

DS (yr4) got:

Maths - 4A (sat L3-5 paper with yrs 5&6 as part of the assessment)
Reading - 4A (don't know what he sat!)
Writing - 4C

Tbh he has done really well & has had such poor teaching this year that he was effectively taught the whole of yr4 stuff in 9 weeks (by a good teacher!)

EyeMyrrhSlapHer · 20/07/2014 17:59

Just for comparison my son who just received his yr 6 Sats scoring a
6 for Maths, 5 for reading and a 5 for grammar, punctuation & spelling ...

scored in yr 4:

Reading 4C
Maths 4A
English 3A

He tells me 4A was the highest he could get.

The sample papers for 2016 cover a level of grammatical knowledge for English similar to the level of grammatical knowledge for French that French DC have always been expected to master by the end of primary school. It is well within children's capabilities.

DS1 end of year 3
Reading 4C

Writing 3B
Very proud, but not big deal. Hope he doing well in year 4.

Iamnotminterested · 23/07/2014 07:29

EyeMyrrhSlapHer, great name BTW, 4a is not the highest a child could get at the end of year 4, there is no limit to teacher assessment.

anamenotanumber · 23/07/2014 09:05

In some schools though if they have not covered the level 5 material they will stop at 4a as they won't have evidence for more.

mrz · 23/07/2014 09:08

If a child is working at level 5 they should be taught at that level ...it isn't a reason just an excuse.

anamenotanumber · 23/07/2014 09:13

Agree mrz but it definitely happens. They have maybe three levels of differentiation, and if one or two or so children need more than their group it doesn't happen. They might get handed an extension sheet or the teacher might write a slightly harder sum for them to do but they are not actually taught anything extra.

mrz · 23/07/2014 09:17

Three levels of differentiation Hmm perhaps that's the problem. We don't have groups or three levels of differentiation we teach what children need to learn next.

DD

4C reading
3A writing
3C maths

Totally normal levels for people freaking about those ones up there!

Pantone363 · 23/07/2014 09:26

Should add she is FSM child. Extra support with maths and moved up two sub levels. We are very proud of her, she worked very hard!

greeneggsandjam · 23/07/2014 11:09

Finally Pantone, another person with normal results!

clux73 · 23/07/2014 14:51

4a reading
4b writing
4b maths

Normal mixed intake London school. Not top table, but probably on second.

alwaysseemslikehalfterm · 23/07/2014 17:35

Twins 1
Writing 3a
Maths 4c
Reading 3a

Twin 2
Writing 3a
Maths 4c
Reading 3c

Had been freaking out about twin two's reading level, until I came on here and freaked out about all the levels!

Both twins seemed to be flying ahead at their old school and get above expected in all areas in year 2 sats. However, on changing school, the new school disagreed with the levels given.

But, they can both read, although twin two is still a work in progress. They have great ideas although handwriting is another matter. But most of all they are well behaved, lovely boys who try very hard. On the other hand, my eldest child was way above expected in all areas in primary. Has just barely scraped 5 gcses and spent a year in and out of college due to his attitude, although he seems to be coming out the other side.

So I will stop freaking about levels that didn't exist when I was at school and sit on the normal bench with pantone!

Pantone363 · 23/07/2014 17:49

Honestly I very rarely believe most of the levels people put in here.

Pic or it didn't happen!

greeneggsandjam · 23/07/2014 18:35

Hah!

Does no one go to a school where they give you the grades across the school year, eg 21% of children got a 3c in maths , 32% got a 3b and so on?

alwaysseemslikehalfterm · 23/07/2014 19:10

Ours only do that for the year 6 sats

anamenotanumber · 23/07/2014 19:56

Clux, seriously, they are second table levels?! Yikes.

greeneggsandjam · 23/07/2014 20:31

I think she means the class is divided into tables based on ability for maths and literacy. Its like that for us as well.

FeministStar · 23/07/2014 20:55

Level 4s across the board, but to be honest I take them with a pinch of salt. I've seen the books, seen the work done and lots of progress has been made and the work is of a good standard but level 4a, I'm not convinced.
However, school is great, enjoyable and there are lots of benefits from it so we're happy.

anamenotanumber · 24/07/2014 09:13

Green, we have tables, I was surprised that there is a table above that with higher levels still.

MasqueradeWaltzer · 24/07/2014 09:14

Our school doesn't put them on the report. They refer to them at Parents' Evenings though, but the last one in March, so what she had then might no longer apply.

chickydoo · 24/07/2014 09:17

Maths 4A

He's a brainy old thing, doesn't get it from me that's for sure

duchesse · 24/07/2014 09:19

Oldest children are in their late teens. early 20s now. Education system was heading this way in the 90s.

Frankly, this is has reached hysterical proportions now.

Look at your child. Do they seem happy and settled at school? Are they learning at a pace that suits their needs?

If so, stop worrying about stupid NC levels. If not, find out what your child needs to be happier and more settled. Worrying about levels or even making a big thing of them is not going to make your child any happier.
