Prepping for internet outage, AI disaster, cyber attacks etc

With all the news of AI escaping, possible Russian cyber attacks and disabling the Internet, is anyone else doing more now to prepare for near term SHTF. I don't mean all out death and destruction but the interim period where things like the banking system might fail or communication outages.

I always keep a little bit of cash at home, is anyone considering having a bigger stash? If so, how much?

How will you keep in touch with love ones if the systems go down?

I'm always stocked up with food and water, a few torches and not much else. What else should I consider?

So sorry I've just come back to the thread. Looks like pp has obliged.

I did wonder about sinks/showers though. Plug in with something on top?

May work for a shower, but baths and sinks have the overflow thing.

Someone mentioned (on this thread or another) Bivvy Loo which is an absorbent powder, a small amount turns wee into a gel, apparently! Easier to dispose of, possibly.

I'm not able-bodied enough to squat on a portable loo nor head off to the woods so my strategy will be putting a large plastic bowl in the toilet, and lining that with some kind of bag. Collect the solid or liquid in that and then dispose of it.

Thanks! Just ordered some!

Thanks for the link to the toilet liners, that's exactly what I was looking for!

So one of the prepping channels I watch has tackled the problem of sanitation during a power/water failure, worth listening to for advice!

It’s far easier for Men, they can pee in a bottle and defecate separately. Women can’t defecate without urinating so need cat litter/ sawdust or camping gel.

Bet people never thought on how to dispose of their shit in their lifetime. Weird times man.

I was happy to buy a 5 pack direct from Floodsax as we have 3 toilets. Looks like you can buy single ones here:
https://www.thesafetysupplycompany.co.uk/p/9386918/floodsax-sandless-sandbags-22l-capacity-single-ed-floodsax.html?

or the Floodsax website has quite a long list of suppliers.

Not sure what you could do about sinks/showers etc if they start backing up, though the idea is slightly less horrifying than toilets!

When they have solidified, how do you get them back out of the pipe? Isn’t this like putting a sackful of postcrete down your toilet?

They are bags full of of expanding absorbent stuff. My understanding is you roll the bag up like a sausage and shove it into the bottom of the toilet, then it expands and effectively blocks the U bend. Then when you’re done and the crisis has passed. you have to pull the whole bag out (fun!).
