Prepping for internet outage, AI disaster, cyber attacks etc

With all the news of AI escaping, possible Russian cyber attacks and disabling the Internet, is anyone else doing more now to prepare for near term SHTF. I don't mean all out death and destruction but the interim period where things like the banking system might fail or communication outages.

I always keep a little bit of cash at home, is anyone considering having a bigger stash? If so, how much?

How will you keep in touch with love ones if the systems go down?

I'm always stocked up with food and water, a few torches and not much else. What else should I consider?

They won't be. If the power goes out completely due to cyber attack then very few shops will be open since they have electric doors, cctv, alarm systems which they are required to have for insurance purposes, bar code readers etc. And if they are open, they won't be for long since their stock will run out very quickly.

I am sure I read that any government has a crisis plan with supermarkets. Basically supermarkets close but at their front door they sell boxes of essential goods for cash. But you have no choice, it's simply a standard box of goods.

In terms of water are people anticipating disruptions in mains supply (hence buying bottles) or contamination of mains supply more likely?

I’d imagine that disruption to the supply is many, many times more likely than the very remote chance that the supply will be poisoned. Especially given that some reservoirs are still at exceptionally low levels after the hot summer.

You need to have food you can eat then. In an emergency supplies are usually fairly basic. After a few days things will be back to fairly normal.

Any idea how difficult it will be to feed a population of millions in a crisis ? If they had to start managing every dietary need - nuts, diary allergies, egg - as well you would starve before getting anything

use your brains
trade it
keep food in stock

and the more vulnerable you are the more prepared you need to be

I'm not expecting the Govt to have gluten-free bread. I am expecting that a less-prepared-than-me coeliac saying "I can't eat this, can I swap it for an extra few potatoes?" would at least be considered in cases of genuine medical need, rather than "no, this is your non-negotiable box of things" when many of those things aren't actually all food from the recipient's perspective.

If everyone had the kind of reserves I have, the Govt wouldn't need a boxes at supermarket doors plan at all. But not everyone has reserves, and I don't believe in thinking "well I'm alright Jack".
