What next to prep for?

Does anyone have a crystal ball - I suppose that is ironic as preppers don’t need a crystal ball because they are already prepared.

But, Brexit stashes have been used up and hopefully no longer on the preppers list.

We are a fair way along in a pandemic, apart from a few weeks at the start, supply has ironed out to a great extent. Boy was I pleased to have a store of stuff to use in the early scary days though.

What’s next. Any guesses?

Another wave and another lockdown.

WHO has already said this might not be The Pandemic that we have been waiting for. So another pandemic I suppose.

Yes I fully expect the lockdowns to continue and therefore limited shopping ability and more people home schooled. So I've bought homeschooling supplies and clothes for the next while as I can't see this changing anytime soon, also DIY stuff. May as well keep busy!

I'd be thinking of all the natural disaters effecting the growing/export of crops which are happening at the moment, how much of your base stocks come from abroad, wheat for flour, fruit for juices, rice,beans/pulses, nuts. Plus don't be forgetting battery's and medications which diffrent ingredients come from other parts of the world remember you should be using your stores and rotating things and constantly replacing

Another pandemic, this one worse and probably cyber attack or blackout the way various governments are behaving

@Sideorderofchips really hope not but it crossed my mind briefly when I read an article on the world economic forums site about a cyber polygon event they are practicing this July.

Preppers remain prepped I think as in they don't use up their supplies and start over.

Preppers are always prepped because you never know what's coming next.

I don't run my stores down, I judt keep working on them

For the moment my thoughts are on another lockdown, and the coming winter. There are concerns that the lack of colds and flus this year may lead to lowered immunity and a resurgence in the winter. Hopefully it won’t be bad, but I’ll be stocking up for winter and getting my Christmas sorted in September.

My preps are still in place. I'm working on financial resilience over the next few years, with an eye to moving to a more rural location. I don't even live somewhere particularly rural. I just need more space to store/grow things.

We haven't finished with Brexit yet - we're only running half a border at the moment as we haven't put import controls in place.

When people talk of THE looming pandemic, is there a timescale talked about. I mean, will it be straight on the back of this one which’ll devastate us after all this, or are we talking 100 years later like this on (if comparing to the Spanish flu), or anything in between?

Since the financial crash my prepping has mainly involved financial prepping, but that’s gone well and we’re pretty solid now although not completely safe from an economic crash.

Since the financial crash my prepping has mainly involved financial prepping, but that’s gone well and we’re pretty solid now although not completely safe from an economic crash.

I understood it that we were not only fully expected to have a pandemic but that, if anything, it was overdue when covid hit. However, since it’s now being said that covid might not be the one we were waiting for, I’d say THE looming pandemic must be fairly imminent.

Eek SoWhyNot....how can we prepare for THE pandemic coming on the back of this one. Get a haircut pronto for me . But seriously you would have to expect the loss of so many more people. Grim.

Shows how a random event can cause hiccups in supply or longer delays.

Being prepared means being able to ride out these issues. My next prep is fire at home and solar storm after that.

Inflation? High inflation?
Dont like all the money printing going on, especially in the US.
Dont think it is going to end well at all.

I think the world is a bit more precarious than it has been in decades.
Kept larger supplies at start of pandemic.
Now I know more precisely what we get through in a whole year, am going to keep stocks higher in general, going forward.

Russia and the Ukraine?

Crime, I seriously think lockdowns and a whole lot of other things are making people crazy and crime is definitely going up, violent crime especially.

The economy won't be picking up very quickly yet so I wouldn't rush to run down stores just yet, unless you're feeling very secure. More businesses fail during a recovery than a recession, and furlough/loans/grants are all that's keeping many afloat.

Assuming a new variant doesn't kick things off earlier, the models are generally predicting another Covid peak in the UK in late summer/early autumn according to reports this week.

If you've got the prepping bug, then the next step is to maintain it and a general attitude of resilience. It's not just about the Big Ones, it's also about power cuts, severe weather, fuel strikes, flooding, etc. Someone's mentioned solar storm, and we're just coming out of a solar minimum and solar cycle 25 is starting. A Carrington Event would be "interesting" to say the least.

@UnsolicitedDickPic and @ThroughThickAndThin01 I am interested, what form has your financial prepping taken?

In this area, I have paid off all debt except the mortgage, and fixed a low rate on the mortgage for a few years. I am also aiming to pay of the maximum extra I can under the fixed mortgage, have an Emergency Fund of 3 months expenses and also save money generally.

However, whilst these are sensible money management things to do, I don’t think any of these would specifically help if we had a crisis. Are you doing something like having a large cash sum in the house? I would like to be more prepared here.

This is what I'm prepping for. We're vulnerable as a country and something like no electricity due to a cyber attack would be quite a scary experience. Food stores are still being topped up as and when for a bug in. Bug out equipment needs sorted.

It's just a hobby. Keeps a person busy.
