Stocktake Time - Brexit Countdown

Can't believe we might actually have a No Deal crash.

Anyone else finding it overwhelming doing usual Christmas stuff, the winter weather preparations and then Brexit and being ready for more coronavirus stuff?

I need to do a stock take of food and toiletries.

We've been life prepping so boiler has been serviced early, electrics have had an upgrade this year. Car getting serviced next month.

I can't be arsed.
I feel sick.

@AldiIsla I know! I have dropped hints about how much space there is, how nice to be able to bulk buy etc etc.... it's a proper, proper old fashioned farmhouse one with shelves all around and a little widow where there used to be a larder, if I had one I would spend all day in there rearranging things and making it look neat and pretty

AldiIsla · 22/10/2020 20:44

I assume you too spend time day dreaming about Pinterest worthy pantries @lexloofah! Saw this meme on FB. Made me laugh. (Not that there's anything wrong with shoes!)

Love your name btw.

@AldiIsla thnx, that made me smile

Shampoo - I started washing my hair every other day during lockdown rather than the usual every day.
Result: shampoo lasts twice as long and hair looks much better. Can even go an extra day occasionally if nothing planned.
Less shampoo to store and saves money for other prep :)

AldiIsla · 23/10/2020 08:58

I can't decide how far to go on toiletries prep. It's bulky and not food, but if you can't have a bubble bath at the end of a long day it's a bit miserable. Cutting down use is a good solution.

DM posted a pic of her pantry on the family WA group this week - more than 1 muttering jealously among DSiblings. (She had offered us all flour, sugar and puppodums if we need them - but only 2 are close enough to be able to take advantage... Hmm ). Although 1 overseas has a great pantry room and a separate basement, which are normal in the country he's in. I'm not telling any of them about the stash in my wardrobe...

AldiIsla · 23/10/2020 10:37

Everything is pulled out and I hate my life.

I love pantry pics. Just wish the electric meter wasn't in mine.

I'm at a junction in organising, I can have everything "hidden" but fairly accessable, or have a the big Pinterest style pantry.

DD is off nursery so no stocktaking for me. :-( I'm longing for a pantry. Wonder if this will have an impact going forward on the way people look at houses on Zoopla? "It's a three bed semi for £125,000 in a good school area, but does it have outdoor space and somewhere we can kit out as a pantry?"Grin

BlackeyedSusan · 23/10/2020 14:30

That first paragraph is very recognisable. Here. Chocolate Cake Brew

Go for hidden.

BlackeyedSusan · 23/10/2020 14:32

Ffs, two minutes to type and someone gets in first!! Grin
Definitely outside space needed.

AldiIsla · 23/10/2020 17:49

It is done. I did the baking section too.

We have outside space but if you'd seen my attempts at gardening you excuse me putting that idea to bed 😂

That pic tickled me AldiIsla would definitely burn the shoes and squash up my stash on those shelves Grin Grin

MarshmallowManiac · 23/10/2020 20:44

Yes need long hot baths after a hectic day, don't regret my toiletries as feel we need a little pampering. Love Body Shop and if you sign up you get a £5 voucher free for your birthday, looking forward to popping in soon. Grin

BlackeyedSusan · 24/10/2020 13:12

Well done Aldi.

Whenwillow · 24/10/2020 14:25

The situation in Wales sounds awful, with people only able to buy food and not electrical/food etc.
I already have spares of a few things and am wondering if it would be worth getting a cheap kettle.

Whenwillow · 24/10/2020 14:26

When I say food I mean clothes, doh!!

AldiIsla · 24/10/2020 15:32

The Wales thing is ridiculous. I'd consider a kettle pretty essential.

BlackeyedSusan · 24/10/2020 18:52

I had a spare kettle until ex casually asked if I had a spare, a day after I had done the shopping order. took me weeks to get a replacement, but it is safely under the stairs.

I need to buy a spare toaster.

BlackeyedSusan · 24/10/2020 18:53

and safer than infirm people trying to pour water into a cup from a pan. twats.

MintyCedric · 25/10/2020 21:20

I did a stock take last week. Reckon we have an additional 3 weeks of back up supplies plus always a week minimum in hand.

Signed up to Tesco delivery saver so have deliveries booked four weeks ahead.

My stash is in the garage but need to get another storage box or two for dry goods. Half term this week so need to get as much cleared out as possible and the home office functional again as work have been asking us to prepare for the possibility of working from home at some point over the winter.

Ashdownstar · 27/10/2020 11:42

I've been getting meat from 2 local butchers, in the hope that they will continue to supply their regulars if things get tight. And obviously I will continue to support them either way. Both small family businesses. They were brilliant over lockdown, even doing local deliveries (via volunteers) They are doing better than ever, and I'm really pleased for them.

Ashdownstar · 27/10/2020 11:43

*Local delivery to vulnerable/isolated households only, after demand became too high.

BlackeyedSusan · 28/10/2020 10:15

There was a mix up at Asda and they didn't bring out all the boxes to click and collect. So missing all the milk.

BlackeyedSusan · 28/10/2020 10:15

Nearly 40 items missing.

BiddyPop · 28/10/2020 12:11

There was an ad on tv last night and DH asked a question about the delivery slots - have the SM we use really got a lot more? I said they seemed to and reckoned there were slots for next few days based on what I'd seen earlier, so checked the app - slots for the 4 weeks to the end of November all released yesterday evening, so I threw together 4 trollies and got a slot each week as a result...I can alter the trolley-loads, but if I don't go back into them, it's fruit and veg, dairy, and some meat, at the very least, for all those weeks. And I should have enough other stuff to mostly muddle through. (Except orange squash and dried mango....)

Now I need to look out for the December slots opening up - not yet, but possibly next week once the October ones are all gone.
