Stocktake Time - Brexit Countdown

Can't believe we might actually have a No Deal crash.

Anyone else finding it overwhelming doing usual Christmas stuff, the winter weather preparations and then Brexit and being ready for more coronavirus stuff?

I need to do a stock take of food and toiletries.

We've been life prepping so boiler has been serviced early, electrics have had an upgrade this year. Car getting serviced next month.

I can't be arsed.
I feel sick.

Ffs. Use the oldest up first turned into use what is convenient waiting to be packed away. Got a big gap in dates now, and need to replace. Pulling out and sorting bottles, jars and carton storage. It is a long job. Just had a break for lunch and whining.

BlackeyedSusan · 01/11/2020 14:46

Fucking neighbour set fire to a pan on the stove. All the rest of us were outside in the fecking rain.

BlackeyedSusan · 01/11/2020 18:42

Well we have enough soy sauce, sesame oil, olives, coffee. Just sitting deciding how to store them, in what order!

BlackeyedSusan · 01/11/2020 20:45

Still fucking sorting.

The only things I possibly could add are more dd's pasta sauce more of her milk and apple juice replacing the ones she used. I have a click and collect booked and an order booked so can use those to top up. Everything else is just replacement of what we are using. Possibly cranberry course.

AldiIsla · 02/11/2020 18:39

Lost stuff so also resorting.

Freezer is defrosted, ready for big shop. Extra blankets are out, on with winter thick curtains and draught excluders now.

Still waiting on a Christmas present which isn't really a Brexit prep but once that's here I'm good to go. When buying Christmas treats I'm putting one in the Christmas box and one in the Brexit box. Should make January more bearable whatever it brings.

Hate the job of sorting Blackeyed have been putting it on the back burner for too long, must tackle it this week. OMG bloody neighbours!

BlackeyedSusan · 03/11/2020 10:43

AAll back under dd's bed. got the rest of the room to clean later. Still got another couple of cupboards to sort out. it's a forth bridge paint job...

BlueistheNewme · 03/11/2020 15:14

Hello, I’m new to Mumsnet and prepping. I’ve been stocking up for Brexit, and am having a stock take at the moment. Have bought 4 under bed really useful boxes, so am putting stuff out of the way. It’s a big job, there’s stuff in cupboard, on cupboards and under the sink.

BlackeyedSusan · 03/11/2020 17:45

behind the sofa, under the bed...

MarshmallowManiac · 03/11/2020 22:00

In the wardrobe....

In the wardrobe....

BlueistheNewme · 03/11/2020 22:46

On top of the fridge for the meds, toiletries and cleaning stuff.

lexloofah · 04/11/2020 10:13

I don't think I am making the most of the room in the fridge, it never gets completely full, there's space at the back of the shelves where I never put fresh stuff as likely to forget it and let it go out of date. Might stack some long life juice and tins of fruit there to make room in the cupboards. Any other ideas?

I think today is the day to defrost and reorganise the freezer in the kitchen

Juniperandrage · 04/11/2020 10:28

Realistically how long are you planning for your stashes to last?

BlackeyedSusan · 04/11/2020 12:49

I put olive spread, at the back of the fridge on the top shelf plus things like boxes of orange juice and cheese. Fresh veg stuff goes on the bottom two shelves.

BlackeyedSusan · 04/11/2020 12:51

Anything from two weeks to six months depending on whose posts you read.

BlueistheNewme · 04/11/2020 13:24

We are an adult and two teens. I know I’ve got enough pasta/rice/lentils to last for about 8 weeks or longer.
Porridge oats to last around 4 - 6 weeks if that was our only breakfast. There’s dried milk for emergencies, which can be added to the porridge with water. But I don’t mind it in coffee/pancakes.
Also have some UHT milk, and have yogurt starter.
I could probably manage without fresh veg if I really had to for the same amount of time. I’ve got sweet corn, tomatoes, green beans and some carrots. I also have dried veg for soups etc. Obviously prefer fresh, and have frozen in the freezer. I’ve got a 3 drawer freezer so not much space .
Plenty of dried/tinned fruit to add to porridge/cake/crumbles for 6 weeks. Longer for the dried fruit, but will need to make mincemeat as some is coming near to the best before.
Some tinned fish, and a few other meat in tins but will mostly be veggie if needed.
I have plenty of herbs and spiced as they were bought in bulk before the March lockdown.

BlackeyedSusan · 07/11/2020 11:10

freezers differ on internal size. ex's seems so much smaller than mine though same undercounter size.

three drawers is a lot if it is not filled with crap... (my new freezer) three drawers is not a lot if it is filled with lots of random stuff (bottom of the fridge freezer) I need to sort out the fridge freezer drawers as all the stuff out of the old fridge freezer was put in there in random places to make it fit in a slightly smaller space.

Teenager back from uni for at least two months. She's got used to cooking with rice, pasta, canned tomatoes and chickpeas and wants to continue. Good I won't have to cook so much, but I can see my preparation going to pot.

BlackeyedSusan · 08/11/2020 22:34

I have been eyeing up the tins and trying to use fresh veg instead while we can. I can see why you may be a little concerned about the preps.

lexloofah · 09/11/2020 09:00

You must be glad to have her back starfish, I guess just keep getting more preps and use as opportunity to rotate. Same here with reluctance to use tins though. We BBQ'd on Sat, and DH decided to make bbq baked beans, lovely but used 3 tins (various beans and corn)

MarshmallowManiac · 09/11/2020 17:21

My DD is back from uni till at least January Starfish, so so glad that she is back but envisaging while I am at work, my preps will be slowly disappearing eaten Grin

megletthesecond · 09/11/2020 17:24

Crisis. I've run out of risotto rice.
Will have to stock up massively this week.

Paranoidmarvin · 09/11/2020 17:47

I did a meal plan for four weeks. I did breakfast lunch dinner and snacks. I then bought what I wrote down. And then some extra. I have a brexit freezer which has all the frozen in and then I added extras until it was full. I have told everyone in the house on pain of death to not touch it.

My large walk In cupboard upstairs has tons and snacks ketchup etc for a month. But my cupboards are always stocked as I live in the middle of nowhere. And I have my three drawers of freezer and another chest freezer full of food. Apart from fresh veg , fruit ( I need to add more frozen of this just don’t have room ) I am all set.
But I keep on buying more food. I don’t seem to be able to stop.

Paranoidmarvin · 09/11/2020 18:31

Basically. I have shopped for four weeks. But I could ekk it out for two months if I had to.
