Stocktake Time - Brexit Countdown

Can't believe we might actually have a No Deal crash.

Anyone else finding it overwhelming doing usual Christmas stuff, the winter weather preparations and then Brexit and being ready for more coronavirus stuff?

I need to do a stock take of food and toiletries.

We've been life prepping so boiler has been serviced early, electrics have had an upgrade this year. Car getting serviced next month.

I can't be arsed.
I feel sick.

you can book recurring slot in Asda if you have a delivery pass. do other supermarkets not do this?

BlackeyedSusan · 28/10/2020 13:50

You can with Morrisons. Must do that.

BiddyPop · 28/10/2020 18:46

SuperValu (our SM) doesn't have anything to have a recurring slot booking. I don't think Tesco does locally either (but won't shop with them) and Dunnes is only starting to do deliveries so you have to ring them with your list.....SV's system generally works well though, as long as you remember to look on a Wednesday for the newly released slots for the following week.

MarshmallowManiac · 28/10/2020 21:27

OMG 40 items Blackeyed lately whenever I have had a delivery or C&C there have been a lot of items missing, it makes me worried about what the chaos after Brexit will entail.

MintyCedric · 29/10/2020 02:29

Tesco release slots three weeks ahead, but if you have delivery saver you can book upto 4 weeks.

I've just got mine in place and book a new one each week as far ahead as possible.

Had the weirdest delivery from Sainsbos at the weekend though. Door bell rang...boxes stacked on doorstep, unmasked delivery woman halfway down the path indicated boxes with a hand flourish then stood watching in silence while I bagged everything up and brought it in. Tried to make small talk...nada. then she just waved, picked up the boxes and left, all without saying a single word!

BlackeyedSusan · 29/10/2020 13:25

Not out of stock items, but they must have left s couple of crates inside. Ex was given someone else's shopping first.

BlackeyedSusan · 29/10/2020 13:25

That made me laugh minty.

DobbyTheHouseElk · 29/10/2020 13:33

I was really prepped. Several packs of butter, cheese and pastry in the freezer. Milk etc and enough for food for a few months.

We had a power cut, lost the contents of the freezer and fridge. All gone. Took me months to stash it all away and gone in a moment.

Whenwillow · 29/10/2020 14:03

That's so frustrating @DobbyTheHouseElk
Not to say expensive!
I'm prepared for that to happen, so also have lots of tins etc.
Just hoping it doesn't! Hope you are able to restock.

DobbyTheHouseElk · 29/10/2020 14:07

I have tins and packets. But the loss was huge. 6 bin bags.

I’m starting to re-fill. But I had a spread sheet and it seems like a huge waste of effort now.

I’d also made soups, casseroles and frozen things like passata when id opened a tin, I’d frozen half.

MintyCedric · 29/10/2020 14:19

What a pita Dobby!

Are you covered by insurance?

DobbyTheHouseElk · 29/10/2020 14:28

DH doesn’t want to claim incase the premium goes up.

The power company say to claim on house insurance. They won’t pay out.

I don’t want to think of the cost really to replace. But it’s a massive chest freezer which was full.

I’m more annoyed at losing the meals I’d made than the supermarket stuff TBh.

MintyCedric · 29/10/2020 14:38

I can certainly understand your frustration at the pre-prepped stuff. I've done similar and would not be happy.

Surely your premium wouldn't go up if it was fault of the power company?

DobbyTheHouseElk · 29/10/2020 15:10

I honestly don’t know. DH won’t look into it.

BlackeyedSusan · 30/10/2020 10:29

Can you look into it? You could post on aibu to find out if premiums change when you make a claim.

DontBeShelfish · 30/10/2020 14:04

Oh Dobby, I'm so sorry. That must be dreadful.
DobbyTheHouseElk · 30/10/2020 14:08

TBH I nearly cried when I had to put it in bin bags.

My stash was big.

I’ll start again from scratch, but it’s going to take time because I don’t want to bulk buy and leave shelves empty for others.

BlackeyedSusan · 30/10/2020 19:34

That's really gutting, Dobby. That is my worry with the freezers.

May get a couple of max min Thermometers to pop in the freezer.

MarshmallowManiac · 30/10/2020 19:53

So sorry to hear that Dobby [flowers ] it will take time but you will get it all back.

MarshmallowManiac · 30/10/2020 19:53
Flowers
DobbyTheHouseElk · 30/10/2020 21:17

Thanks everyone.

At least we don’t eat meat so there wasn’t anything stinky, although it did have a slight whiff.

Now to build it back up. During lockdown I did a stock check and had a sheet to mark things off and add to.

Going to make a start with some milk and bread. That’s so useful in the freezer.

BlackeyedSusan · 30/10/2020 23:01

And meat would have been so much more expensive.

I had images of losing the whole lot today due to neighbour issues.

MarshmallowManiac · 31/10/2020 17:47

Were you going to throw the lot at a nutty neghbour Blackeyed I have a few like that around here Grin

MarshmallowManiac · 31/10/2020 17:49

*neighbour lol
