I don’t know why another thread hasn’t been created yet , so here you go. Now as we prep ourselves to the peak of this pandemic, let’s all face it together and appreciate how fragile our lives are and how we need each other to survive and flourish.

If it’s 8k plus positive cases in the U.K. that we are talking about.. how many numbers are actually out there? Any guesses?

We are on day 26 of isolation now, except for when I went to the dentist in an FFP3 and my son nipped to college in an FFP3 to see his tutor.
Yesterday I started with a cough. No temperature.
I've self isolated from my family in the spare room as my son has a liver transplant.
I'm so worried that it's the virus. I don't understand though how I could have caught ANYTHING never mind coronavirus as I've been so careful 😭

TiddleTaddleTat · 25/03/2020 14:38

Sorry to hear that ofwarren, it seems so unlikely it could be the virus. How do you feel apart from the cough?

tryingtoprep · 25/03/2020 14:49

Oh no I hope it turns into nothing @ofwarren You've been so careful. I'm sure you know all this already but use completely separate cutlery and crockery from the rest of the household, wipes or spray after you've used kitchen, bathroom, loo, shared food handles, bannisters, taps. Have you got a spare kettle or flask? Might be useful so you can have lots of hot drinks whilst staying out of shared spaces as much as possible.

@Sprayitall I don't think I even want to know! It's so stressful thinking about it. I saw a thread title yesterday saying some experts estimate 50% might've had it. I don't know if that's accurate. I didn't read the thread.

ofwarren · 25/03/2020 14:54

@tiddletaddletat
I feel a bit wobbly. I'm not sure if it's anxiety though because I'm really worried about getting ill.
I had bad acid reflux a few days ago and at first I thought it was that causing the throat tickle. It still could be I suppose.
No temperature but flushed cheeks.
I'd have to be the most unlucky person in the world to catch it because I've tried so hard! I took all my clothes off at the door and jumped into the shower. I took hand gel and scrubbed when I got back.
I even spray my parcels!

TiddleTaddleTat · 25/03/2020 15:08

@ofwarren

Anxiety makes it feel much worse. I think I had it 2 weeks back and did have some chest pain but I think that was anxiety rather than covid. I was so fearful of it having not heard many stories of 'mild' illness at that time.

BlackeyedSusan · 25/03/2020 15:10

Oh no! Hope little Warren doesn't catch it.

ofwarren · 25/03/2020 15:14

I know some people are frowning about it, but I've paid for a test. I can't stand not knowing.
It will be here in 2 days and it takes 2 days to get the result. If it's positive, they tell public health England.

Readyme · 25/03/2020 15:52

@ofwarren oh no I'm sorry that be so stressful for the whole family. Is the test reliable? I've have a dry cough and slight sore throat but no temp. It's been a week with no development the uncertainty is so stressful.

ofwarren · 25/03/2020 15:54

The test is from the company I get my private thyroid tests from. They are recommended by thyroid UK for their thyroid testing so I'm sure they will be fine.

Readyme · 25/03/2020 16:03

@ofwarren thanks turnaround legitimate will have a Google for them. I would rather know for certain. Plus if I confirm I have it and recover im.I'm a better position to help my community.

ofwarren · 25/03/2020 16:08

bluehorizonbloodtests.co.uk/products/coronavirus-covid-19-home-test-kit

This is who I have my thyroid tests with. If you look at the bottom, they have a sister site who they use for the coronavirus testing.

ofwarren · 25/03/2020 16:11

@Readyme
As you can see, thyroid UK recommend them.

Gosh warren. Keeping everything crossed you test negative. I can totally understand why you've tested.

My son is back from Thailand- by the skin of his teeth. Daily mail article about 2 sisters stranded at Dubai airport on their way back from the Philippines made my hair stand on end. I feel desperately sorry for them and their family. It is a nightmare Sad

Legoandloldolls · 25/03/2020 16:55

Gosh OffWarren I hope your feeling better asap

Sprayitall · 25/03/2020 17:36

Gosh offwarren.. hope you feel better ASAP. I guess it should be the acid reflux.. fingers crossed for you

Hi all, checking in. Have been absent for a bit as had a little bit of a meltdown at the weekend about the enormity of it all. Hammered home when my shopping delivery was missing a whole load of basic stuff.

but I have reminded myself that this is what my stash is for. I will manage with what we have for the next couple of weeks in the hope that in a couple of weeks time the morons who think this is all a game will either realise the reality and stay home, or be ill and have to! Breaking into my stash was hard, but I'm guessing in a couple of weeks the supermarkets will be levelling out again, and the shops might be less busy. I keep telling myself this is why I had all this stuff in the first place, but it's hard to see fears become such stark reality, isn't it? I still wake up each morning and think it must be a dream!

I am the only member of my family going out anywhere now (vet), and I feel totally paranoid about bringing anything home with me. As you can imagine, we now have NO direct contact with clients, emergencies only, but I still worry

@ofwarren sending you good vibes, and really hoping you are ok.

Sprayitall · 25/03/2020 17:48

@theplatypus yes we aren’t going out either but some of the parcels are turning up so late and I am so scared we might catch it. Also I’m scared to even pick the usual milk in the morning by the milkman. How do you even wipe the chilled milk bottle??

OP posts:
ThePlatypusAlwaysTriumphs · 25/03/2020 17:54

@sprayitall I know! I stocked up on surgical spirit when all this started out, and everything gets wiped down- you could probably get drunk on the fumes coming out of my house! But i'm paranoid about doorknobs/ handles. people moaning about boredom in self-isolation, but I reckon i'd think of a different surface to wipe every 5 minutes! And my hands....they wouldn't look out of place on a 93 year old!

RageAgainst84 · 25/03/2020 18:31

Hope everyone stays well!

Is it just me that can’t see any numbers for today???

Sprayitall · 25/03/2020 18:34

@theplatypus I’m just using my precious dettol wipes that I bought eons ago. I had 4 in February but already down to 2 and they aren’t on the shelves anymore. I don’t have surgical spirit , the bottle arrives chilled so it’s wet all over - I’m thinking if I spray or wipe it the spray gets diluted as it’s wet and won’t be effective. I am still thinking of a proper way of how to wipe it. Any ideas welcome

My 4 year old has started coughing and is now in isolation with me...

ofwarren · 25/03/2020 18:42

That is not the liver transplant child. He's 5

TiddleTaddleTat · 25/03/2020 19:16

Gosh @ofwarren how scary for you all. I'm so sorry you are going through this and understand the worries you have for your son who has had the liver transplant. It must be really hard trying to self isolate you two from the rest of the family. We didn't have the space to do this and I'm quite sure I passed on the virus that I had (no guarantee it was covid) to my daughter who developed a cough 8 days later. My husband has as yet had no symptoms, whereas mine started 14 days ago tomorrow.

Sprayitall · 25/03/2020 19:39

@ofwarren gosh.. is it a cold? May be a runny/stuffy nose? Check the symptom checker. really hoping you are ok.. Sending you lot of good vibes

I’m so worried because there are these covidiots going about everywhere. One local confirmed case here has put she is sure that she caught it from a check out lady at the supermarket who bragged visiting her siblings family with confirmed covid that morning saying it’s not even that bad. She then reported it to the manager who said he will look into it (looks like the check out people don’t get paid if they don’t turn up for work so they have to come anyways) I have avoided going to supermarkets until now and I am very paranoid to even step out in the garden. I am anxious to handle milk, parcels or my grocery delivery. The missing part of the hospital bag things arrived today and it’s still in the shed. (How long does it stay on fabrics?) I’m sure no one would have sneezed inside a packet of briefs but the towels I’m not sure 😓 I’m now definitely wishing to go back home - atleast I would have a largish home, warm weather and family together. Never will I take an ordinary day for granted. Dh had his interviews this week, everyone is happy to hire him but they all want to wait until this gets over before they wish to send an offer letter. Puts us in a tricky situation. Can anyone explain the moneys the government is planning to help self employed people with? Dh runs a limited company where we both are employees and I run a smallish hobby based business where I have couple of staffs that I pay by the hour. No contractual agreement and all. Can someone guide me how much will the government pay us with the new guidance? We have already applied for a mortgage payment holiday for 3 months. Dh is out of job since December (Christmas holiday, Brexit, ir35 and now covid) Things are getting tough.
