I don’t know why another thread hasn’t been created yet , so here you go. Now as we prep ourselves to the peak of this pandemic, let’s all face it together and appreciate how fragile our lives are and how we need each other to survive and flourish.

Spray The Govt is announcing measures to help self-employed tomorrow.

I am a contractor with a ltd company which I am the only employee of. I am getting advice from my accountant once the Govt have made announcements. As soon as I have the advice I will share on here for you, it might be Friday or Monday by the time I get it.

wheresmymojo · 25/03/2020 20:26

Also though where are today's numbers for England???

wheresmymojo · 25/03/2020 20:27

I'm another one that has had physical symptoms with anxiety (and had never done so before) so hoping ofwarren that you have anxiety and a common garden cough.

ThePlatypusAlwaysTriumphs · 25/03/2020 20:51

sprayitall if your milk bottles are glass maybe wash them with soap and water, dry with kitchen towel? I heard virus only lasts couple of days on fabric and machine washing kills it.

Graphista · 25/03/2020 21:00

@ofwarren hoping you’re cv negative look after yourself, so scary for you and your family. Do you have a thermometer you’re checking re fever we don’t always realise when we have one.

Could it be a flare up of the thyroid problem causing cough?

@ThePlatypusAlwaysTriumphs I so hope you’re right that things will calm/be better organised in a couple weeks. I’ve been trying to book a supermarket delivery slot for the last week with no success. I’m housebound, I’m ok for now thanks to stash but I’m worried for when it runs out.

I’m finding it very difficult mentally to get my head around using it up and I’m worried I may struggle to restock in time for Brexit which was my original reason for doing so.

My eczema has flared badly (combination of stress always sets it off and having to use unfamiliar products) I’m so so sore. I’ve some diprobase in but it’s not helping much so I’ve sort of made a mental note to address this issue when next prepping somehow, not sure how exactly!

Op I’m so sorry things so tough for you and dh financially too.

Are these links any help?

https://www.gov.uk/guidance/help-and-support-if-youre-self-employed

https://www.google.co.uk/amp/s/www.moneysavingexpert.com/news/2020/03/uk-coronavirus-help-and-your-rights/amp/

That last one scroll down to the link for advice for self employed and it’ll take you to right part of page.

Re milk bottles I have diagnosed ocd and even I haven’t been spraying my shopping when it arrives - partly as I’m saving what little disinfectant I can get hold of for other things which I think are more of a risk. The experts are saying that soap and water actually works quite well on this particular virus so can I make a suggestion? Which I may copy myself at some point - make up a spray bottle (use an old spray bottle of whatever else that you’ve used up rinsed out) with a soap solution that you can spray on?

If anything I’ve said is useful to anyone I’ll be so glad as I’m feeling frustratingly bloody useless right now, more so than I normally do.

Mum2jenny · 25/03/2020 21:18

Still not seen the numbers for today, they must be bad.

lexloofah · 25/03/2020 21:56

sprayitall I have been wiping our milk bottles with a cotton wool ball dipped in a solution of diluted bleach or Milton or washing up liquid (not mixed!) then rinsing under the tap then drying with kitchen roll or tea towel. I don't know why as not wiping other stuff down, it's all a bit random but makes me feel better.

Sprayitall · 25/03/2020 22:26

Thank you @wheresmymojo Please let me know. Our accountant is working from home and says his access hasn’t been sorted out yet.

Thank you @ThePlatypusAlwaysTriumphs @Graphista@lexloofah I think I might try the spray with soap idea first. Spray it, then wipe it and then take it to the sink and wash it again. I don’t want to take it with the virus ( if it has any) and wash it in the sink without spraying it ahead. Yes I will be wearing gloves but still I am very wary of it spreading. I am wondering if it can spread through drains or water etc? Dh thinks I am mad as I had made sure I sprayed the shower drain with washing up liquid and have put cistern blocks. With sinks I have put washing liquid for kitchen and others we wash hands often with soap anyways. I am so scared and i don’t feel like my usual self when i do all this. May be staying inside for longer is getting onto me and I have lost my marbles.. Dh might find it difficult to identify i’ve lost it though as it might look very normal for him.

How long after the soapy spray or dettol does the virus die actually? Does anyone know?

OP posts:
Sprayitall · 25/03/2020 22:35

@Graphista For me because I worked in an infectious unit before all this I am extra cautious with germs. I have also worked in chest Physiotherapy units back in India so may be that’s the reason for my excessive cleaning now. I have also started to wipe clean switches, door handles, flushes, taps, stove knobs, dishwasher, washing machine, fridge, freezer handles, all appliance buttons, coffee table, dining table tops, worktops, floor, keys - I am just thinking what else I have left

Today's numbers for those who didn't see them earlier:

UPDATE on coronavirus (#COVID19) testing in the UK:

As of 9am on 25 March, a total of 97,019 have been tested:

87,490 negative.
9,529 positive.

463 patients who tested positive for coronavirus have sadly died. Please note these figures do not cover a full 24 hour period.

Legoandloldolls · 26/03/2020 00:08

Sprayitall I have no idea but I think surely just the action of spraying / wiping with dettol and walking off leaving it to air dry kills it? That's the way it used in lab testing surely?

I think the same would apply to soapy water? Make sure its strong enough like for washing up. I bet 1tsp in in 500ml spray bottle would be pretty soapy? Just leave it to air dry?

Disclaimer I'm.just guessing

Legoandloldolls · 26/03/2020 00:10

Of Warren fx for a speedy recovery.

I have had a sore triathlon for three weeks now. It's making me want to cough but no fever and I'm 1000% sure it's a standard bug

JustMeAndMyTins · 26/03/2020 00:23

@Legoandloldolls ‘a sore triathlon’? Amazing predictive text failure. Jokes aside, hope you feel better soon - at least you’re out of the woods if it hasn’t worsened 3 weeks in.

@ofwarren I’m sure you’re absolutely fine. You’ve been phenomenally cautious. But I understand your need to know. Peace of mind is priceless. 😘

AlohaMolly · 26/03/2020 00:38

DP has finally started to take it seriously and looked really worried and upset tonight. He’s ordered some diy stuff for click and collect tomorrow (things he’s been putting off for months, like the fuxking great leak in our kitchen that pours with water every time it rains) and asked if I thought he was putting people at risk by doing it.

I said wear gloves, don’t touch your face and I’ll have a bleach mix ready to wipe it down. I’ve got to go out to the local farm shop to pick up bits that I’ve ordered.

I’ve said that I really want us to avoid supermarkets and, after tomorrow, I don’t want to go to any shops apart from a food run if we have to, but I’m searching for deliveries instead. We’ve got a veg bag delivery every week for fresh and I’ve got roughly a months worth of food still, but we will need milk, butter and bread.

He also asked how long I think it will go on for and I said I think April will be horrific in terms of deaths and people we know will probably die. May, I’m hoping, if people comply with these three weeks, start to see a tail off in positive tests but probably still rising death rates and then June might start to feel a bit hopeful. What do people think? Am I being too optimisitic?

BlackeyedSusan · 26/03/2020 02:27

I know someone who knows someone in hospital very poorly with suspected Covid.

tryingtoprep · 26/03/2020 02:37

I'm sorry @BlackeyedSusan It's scary when it comes close to home. I hope they pull through and make a good recovery.

I'm not sleeping. It almost feels like a holiday when there's no early start the next day. Almost.

I hope you're feeling better today @JustMeAndMyTins

I hope your cough goes and you feel better @ofwarren Your ds too.

Sprayitall · 26/03/2020 08:29

Morning y’all,
@ofwarren fingers crossed for you. Take lots of rest and up your fluids. X
@AlohaMolly I think your guess is spot on for April. But may be the curve might taper down with many of us social distancing because of this. I’m guessing there will be atleast 3 waves of half-peaks than we having just one full blown peak.. one half peak now, one after the isolation period is over& normal sets in and one in winter.
@BlackeyedSusan there are four in my neighbourhood all self isolating. It’s getting scary when it’s close to home. But thankfully the neighbourhood is very helpful and If they raise any request or want anything , some of us buy it or share what we have and have been throwing what they need at their door from a distance and running off. (This is the local group instruction)
@JustMeAndMyTins May be acid reflux?
@tryingtoprep I was like you.. but have now decided not to lose my sleep over this. Sound mind and healthy body is now necessary to pull through this. So trying to slow down and take each day by day.
My frozen grapes have changed their colour slightly. I have never frozen them before. Are they still good to eat? Does anyone know?

OP posts:
Oxyiz · 26/03/2020 09:04

Morning all!

Yes I've eaten frozen grapes that have gone a bit yellowish, they were fine. (I hope no one comes on telling me I'm about to die now.)

One tray in our freezer is supposed to be supercold/good at freezing things and they do better in that one - not sure if yours is the same?

Oxyiz · 26/03/2020 09:05

If you normally pay for premium spotify by the way, you could switch to a premium plus headspace app for 3 months at 9.99. I'm going to give it a try.

Sprayitall · 26/03/2020 09:12

@Oxyiz I’m very new to using freezer to freeze things. I had used them only to store frozen peas, make ice and store ice creams on them. Never have I used them much partly because of our diet at home - vegetarian and mostly Indian diet which means I cook fresh everyday. I have used frozen ingredients for my baking experiments though but it’s just that (get them from shop and use it right away within a day or two)how do we even find out one tray is better??.

Sprayitall · 26/03/2020 09:23

Audible from amazon is free now to listen stories. Very useful for people with young dc’s like me .. because there is no school now the story nights are becoming endless .. my throat gets so sore with a hoarse voice in the morning that I end up freaking out it’s covid.
I’m so scared of this pneumonia thing because we lost my grandfather to double pneumonia when my father was just few months baby. But that was way back.. still there have been a lot of coincidences that’s occurring between generations that’s causing me enough anxiety.

OP posts:
Sprayitall · 26/03/2020 11:49

How often should we wash our hands if no one leaves the house? Is once in half an hour fine?

OP posts:
Oxyiz · 26/03/2020 11:56

Just wash your hands when they're dirty, or before you eat or touch your face like normal.

My freezer has a label on one of the shelves with something like superfreeze on it, not sure about other brands?

Yeah pneumonia is terrifying. But all we can do is try to stay as safe as possible.

grannycake · 26/03/2020 12:49

posterSprayitall I have a large freezer and the top two drawers are labelled fast freeze. I put unfrozen stuff in there and then move it when I have the next batch to freeze
