A lot of us have been here before. We Prepped for Brexit. Some of us are Heathcare workers. We prepare for the worst every day. It's difficult to predict what will happen in our lives. In our lifetime. Will we get Cancer? Will a huge meteorite wipe the world out?

One thing is for sure, this new virus is either affecting us, or is going to affect us all very soon. You are all already onboard. I hope you are prepared and much as you can be. And in the meantime this thread is here to support us all.

This week will bring many new challenges. We are almost certain to have some sort of lockdown. Like other parts of Europe. We aren't special. We aren't different. We are all
fragile souls. But I hope we live to tell the tale.

God Speed.

It’s absolutely ridiculous that nothing is being done at this point. 1000’s testing positive and 35 deaths - high time we do something about this . How many are actually planning to keep your dcs off from morrow?

bellinisurge · 15/03/2020 16:08

@Posharmchairs , hope you are feeling ok.
Some options. If it's an old shop bought spud with pale sprouts, just stick it in an old egg box sprouts up and let the sprouts get the light for bit. They tend to firm up and be a stronger stubby green ready for planting.
If it's a chitter seed potato try the following.

  1. Dig a small hole. Say 3 or 4 inches. Put spud in sprouts pointing up. Cover hole . Put a bit more soil on top. Add more soil as the sprouts grow.
2.Stick up more or less on top of the soil and cover with straw. Add another layer of straw as sprouts grow.
  1. Get an old bucket and stick holes in it or use a big pot. Fill a third with soil. Stick spud in, sprouts up. Cover with soil. Do as 1.

Numbers will go down once testing chances come in, but not for long.

Death rate in UK is running at 66% ( because they are not testing mild cases)

YoursTunbridgeWells · 15/03/2020 16:13

@GeistohneGrenzen Sadly Amazon's entire range is gone from the website. My normal supplies - Who gives a crap? has run out.... bizarre.

The numbers of dead are far more indicative that there must be thousands and thousands more cases as no more tests are being done in the community

bellinisurge · 15/03/2020 16:14

Just had to help poor old MIL 70+.
She was in tears trying to sort out a repeat prescription because her gp practice insists it must all be ordered electrically. And she and FIL expect to have to self isolate when Johnson deigns to tell everyone.
She's robust, healthy generally and yet now very anxious. Dh and I sorted it out and got her to agree to online shopping via us too. I also dug into some of my preps and gave them to her: more disposable gloves (she'd trialled using some out shopping this morning) , surgical spirit, anti bac wipes and a spare thermometer.

MrsWhites · 15/03/2020 16:15

Only 2500 tests carried out today! This is definitely the strategy, keep testing and therefore hopefully official numbers to a minimum! Makes me so angry!

Posharmchairs · 15/03/2020 16:16

Thank you @bellinisurge, had some water and paracetamol and feeling less dizzy. No temperature or anything so just my emotions getting the better of my physical health.

Right! That’s next weekends job then, thank you, I’ll tell dh those are his options.

We are also growing mustard cress on the windows and having a go at carrots, broccoli and spring onions. They’re our go to staples and I’ve got a good stash now of dehydrated peppers and mushrooms

Also dehydrated banana and strawberry chips make a delicious snack!

Small is at that grotty time of day between nap and dinner time which feels like one long whinge. Probably adding to my feeling unwell!

Graphista · 15/03/2020 16:17

Tried to get ahead with Sainsburys but NO delivery slots available at all and showing 3 WEEKS worth of dates which is just ridiculous.

Order due later today:

No

Hand wash
loo roll
Laundry detergent
Wipes
Tissues

Limited
Disinfectant
Bin bags
Bottled water

Anxiety really ramping up now!!

Feel sick.

I’ve been able to book deliveries for next week with tesco and asda, because I don’t know what I’ll be getting and not getting I’m kinda ordering loads! I’ll adjust nearer the delivery times.

Need to keep an eye on what this is all costing me too. Although I’m hoping that won’t be too much of an issue as lack of availability means not getting charged for the stuff they don’t deliver! Gonna keep a close eye on my budget spreadsheet while all this going on and bank account - I had a notification from bank and had to enter a code as one order went over my usual spending level.

Just had a look and this week was actually under budget due to lack of availability..:but also because ASDA’s hasn’t gone out my account yet! So need to keep eye on that.

Also spent £40 with amazon though even they’re out of stock on most stuff now. But that’s not apparent till you check delivery dates and it’s ‘between 5-15 April’ or similar.

Trying very hard not to panic not sure I’m succeeding!

“I veer between feeling calm and practical and bloody terrified at the moment!” Same here!!

@wheresmojo - have you quit the Diet Coke “cold turkey”? Beware caffeine withdrawal effects - they’re a bugger! I quit caffeine cold turkey some years back not realising just how much I was having and I felt SO rough thought I had flu —was dying—

Luckily gp on the ball and twigged (I was living and working somewhere where coffee was almost a religion at the time so that probably is why he thought of it)

When is the next COBRA meeting scheduled for? I can’t find any news on that

Sprayitall · 15/03/2020 16:22

I am dreading to send the school email.. help.. 😓 I don’t have any energy left to argue with any of the staffs anymore

Fixitquick · 15/03/2020 16:26

We ordered 3 nail brushes from Amazon and bought 3 in Tesco this morning. To really clean your hands and nails - which is where the bacteria lies, you need to scrub your nails. I have a feeling that these nail brushes will be like gold dust in a couple of weeks.

savethecat · 15/03/2020 16:32

Does anyone else have this problem?
I have been prepping food for ages but my family just don't understand the concept of taking it easy with the supplies. God forbid rationing.
CONSTANT grazing and asking for snacks, grabbing extra slices of bread with meals etc...and that's my DH! I told him to slow it down but he wont.

BlackeyedSusan · 15/03/2020 16:33

Got nail brushes in my Brexit stash. May get a spare from the local shop. Keep them going.

BlackeyedSusan · 15/03/2020 16:34

You will have to hide it out of sight.

savethecat · 15/03/2020 16:35

This is the everyday food as well as preps. The 2 week stash gets eaten in a day..greedy bastards.

savethecat · 15/03/2020 16:38

So frustrating, It's like a hole in the bucket. I will hide stuff as best I can.

MrsWhites · 15/03/2020 16:42

I have to hide some of my stash too, if the kids can see it, they will want to eat it straight away. If I cook a big meal, intending to freeze some, my husband has a terrible habit of nipping back into the kitchen whilst it’s cooling to pick at it or eat it whilst he is washing dishes. It drives me mad, it’s such a waste, it’s not hunger, he already eats massive portions. It’s just greed or habit and it drives me mad!!

MagisCapulus · 15/03/2020 16:44

DD has just whiled away an hour or so doing these scratch art things. Might be an idea for when/if the schools close as a boredom activity buster? amzn.to/39VnbUX

sleepismysuperpower1 · 15/03/2020 16:45

if anyone is looking for handgel, onbuy has some here for £4.99 with free delivery

Sprayitall · 15/03/2020 16:45

Dh drinks plant based milk usually and got confused with the couple of uht’s I had on the prep cupboard and drank one of it today while the fresh ones that were bought was right in front of him over the worktop. I am upset because I know we can’t buy any more uht’s in this mad rush and prepped way ahead but now I think I need to try adding one more to see if it’s available for my delivery.

Fivefourthree · 15/03/2020 16:45

@BlackeyedSusan how on earth did you come up with a 66% death rate with those figures? Confused

MoonlightMistletoe · 15/03/2020 16:47

@Fivefourthree piers Morgan said the same on twitter but I think she means 66% increase of deaths from yesterday

Fivefourthree · 15/03/2020 16:48

That makes a bit more sense 😂

BlackeyedSusan · 15/03/2020 16:49

Usually it is only chocolate and biscuits that go missing here. All chocolate is hidden out of sight of DC. Not greedy adult nicking stuff. That would drive me bonkers.

Given ex a stock of stuff ( his money) to tide him over.

BlackeyedSusan · 15/03/2020 16:51

It's on the worldometer site. Cases with an outcome. 18 recovered(34%) and 35 died (66%)

BlackeyedSusan · 15/03/2020 16:53

Of course, if we were testing more the death rate would be smaller. Lots of the mild cases would recover.
