Prepping for a Pandemic... 15

A lot of us have been here before. We Prepped for Brexit. Some of us are Heathcare workers. We prepare for the worst every day. It's difficult to predict what will happen in our lives. In our lifetime. Will we get Cancer? Will a huge meteorite wipe the world out?

One thing is for sure, this new virus is either affecting us, or is going to affect us all very soon. You are all already onboard. I hope you are prepared and much as you can be. And in the meantime this thread is here to support us all.

This week will bring many new challenges. We are almost certain to have some sort of lockdown. Like other parts of Europe. We aren't special. We aren't different. We are all
fragile souls. But I hope we live to tell the tale.

God Speed.

So glad I prepped for this weeks ago. I went to the supermarket today to buy fruit and it was the first time I've seen a lot of shortages. Off the top of my head there was no white bread, flour, pasta, fresh poultry, tp, soap, baby wipes. Tuna, eggs, fresh meat, biscuits, crisps rice, bananas all close to running out. It was way busier than a regular Tuesday.
I've bought lots of craft supplies and school have sent home a suggested timetable in case of closure. It looks pretty good. I am thankful that I'm a SAHM so childcare is not a worry for me, and I can help others if needed.
I bought a few bits for the food bank today (shower gel, cereal, jam, biscuits, oil, jelly pots) sadly there was no donation point in the shop and several items the bank is in need of were nowhere in sight.

They are also still doing surveillance testing via the 100 random G.P’s so numbers come from there as well as hospital.

KatyMac · 17/03/2020 19:20

DD teaches fitness/dance classes and all her venues have shut so she has organised live streaming and is running them that way - so proud of her - she didn't alter she has just carried on

DH and I are firmly home and I've done a Tesco order for a week on Sunday (first date available!)

Sprayitall · 17/03/2020 19:23

www.scmp.com/news/china/society/article/3075567/people-blood-type-may-be-more-vulnerable-coronavirus-china-study - should the stringent measures be based on blood groups?

BlackeyedSusan · 17/03/2020 19:25

School closed to three year groups. Work on line for the children. Ds will be very annoyed.

84TinsOfBeans · 17/03/2020 19:52

Local comprehensive shut today in Gloucester.

I'm like a lioness guarding the treats in our house. Every time I hear the cupboard door open I'm in there checking what's happening.

Sprayitall · 17/03/2020 20:10

@84TinsOfBeans Because everyone is home the snacks are also running out. Can’t arrange any deliveries online either which is making me slightly worried.

Sprayitall · 17/03/2020 20:11

Why is this thread unusually quiet today btw??

Mrsappleby · 17/03/2020 20:20

Apparently everyone's on the what's app group 🤷🏼‍♀️

Readyme · 17/03/2020 20:27

I suspect a lot of people are busy doing last minute preps, helping others whilst they still can there seems to be a shift in the atmosphere that we are close to being restricted in our movements soon.

Readyme · 17/03/2020 20:31

And with a lot more people with kids at home and parents working from home I suspect many are having to deal with a shift in their daily roitines.

We suddenly realised one of DH meds are anti-inflammatory and he needs to switch meds. He's suppose to switch meds soon anyway only he's likely to be unwell for a while afterwards.

So check your meds!

Sprayitall · 17/03/2020 20:32

@Mrsappleby May be .. But this thread is not looking like what it used to be is it..

Meanwhile in India they are stamping covid cases on the back of their hands with semi perm indelible ink with the date until they are quarantined. (No one wears gloves there because it’s so effing hot and it will look so odd if someone wears one also) 😂 it’s going to be crazy I believe

HasaDigaEebowai · 17/03/2020 20:34

Everyone left for whatsapp.

Plus theres not a great deal of prepping left to do now
Nor is there much point keeping up with the developments given that we're well and truly on track for lockdown now. Ive even stopped checking the news websites.

Readyme · 17/03/2020 20:37

@Sprayitall that's actually a really good idea!

Amazon are scaling back in Prime deliveries making food and med deliveries a priority.

Sprayitall · 17/03/2020 20:37

Things are getting interesting..

It's still cold here you would have to put it on peoples foreheads.

I'm feeling a bit nervous tonight about the complete lack of Allergy foods especially gluten free bread and flour. We have some but it's not been easy to get hold of the flour locally since the start of the year. I have some but if shortages carry on for a long time things will get difficult for DC.

Sprayitall · 17/03/2020 20:47

@Readyme except it won’t be very much visible on the skin if it’s done in south of India where I come from.

CousinKrispy · 17/03/2020 20:47

I'm sorry I missed the WhatsApp boat, but I wanted to say thank you for this thread and board. It's such a relief to know I have supplies I bought some time ago and am ready to isolate. I wish it could all go back to normal, though.

Givemeabreakpls · 17/03/2020 20:48

WhatsApp group? Have I missed something?

wherearemychickens · 17/03/2020 20:49

I don't think there will be a normal for quite a while unfortunately - I think that is the next thing to prepare for, mentally? Although, it will end at some point...

MoonlightMistletoe · 17/03/2020 20:49

@MrsWhites Schools are under continuous review and that was it didn't say anything else!

Sprayitall · 17/03/2020 20:51

@Readyme lol for foreheads .. that won’t look good is it .. for special dietary requirements have you tried zero waste shops that deliver? I’ve pm’ed you a link for a start

ooopsupsideyourhead · 17/03/2020 20:52

I miss the regular posters of previous threads. It feels a bit like high school when I was SO not in the cool gang.

But, I suppose, yes, prepping is kinda done. What would be the right talk area for a “Living through Lockdown” thread 🧐

OnTheEdgeOfTheNight · 17/03/2020 20:52

Scottish schools may be closed within days.
Remember our exam schedule begins in April, earlier than the rest of the uk.

ooopsupsideyourhead · 17/03/2020 20:57

I started a “living in lockdown” thread.

Come join me in the next phase...
