Prepping for a Pandemic... 15

A lot of us have been here before. We Prepped for Brexit. Some of us are Heathcare workers. We prepare for the worst every day. It's difficult to predict what will happen in our lives. In our lifetime. Will we get Cancer? Will a huge meteorite wipe the world out?

One thing is for sure, this new virus is either affecting us, or is going to affect us all very soon. You are all already onboard. I hope you are prepared and much as you can be. And in the meantime this thread is here to support us all.

This week will bring many new challenges. We are almost certain to have some sort of lockdown. Like other parts of Europe. We aren't special. We aren't different. We are all
fragile souls. But I hope we live to tell the tale.

God Speed.

Sons large secondary school has closed with immediate effect as of 8.15pm along with all schools under their academy umbrella.

I think I've missed something about a whatsapp group could I be added?

Hooe everyone is doing ok. I know my MH is struggling today. I've had a good cry. Hugs to anyone who needs them xx

misscockerspaniel · 17/03/2020 21:02

@Readyme it might be worth trying Holland and Barrett for gluten free flour

TiddleTaddleTat · 17/03/2020 21:03

@readyme
Same here re. Allergy foods. I'm GF and seen Tesco is out of usual Scharr bread. I have a couple of loaves in storage and some GF flour but not a great deal. Will probably need to scale back and stick to rice / potato

Legoandloldolls · 17/03/2020 21:05

I'm still here. I'm just feeling a bit lost. I did my prep and wondering what next.

I feel a bit numb. I feel like I cant even share good ideas or advice. But I will bounce back with wacky ideas.

It's a bit like we prepped. Shtf. Then its mass panic, we need to evolve again. We need to adapt and we absolutely can.

Let stay together on here? Prepping / living through a pandemic ( prepping for normality? 🤪)

I wish I was in Hong Kong get the stat Ferry late at night to the mainland to look around the Market. Or sitting on a local ish beach watching my kids play in the sea. Will we do that this summer?

I have two kids in special school who I have done tribunals for. So I'm no victim but life has been hard. But God even I didnt realise how fragile and perfect life was even with a kid who could talk until he was six. Life is fragile. Let's enjoy it.

What would everyone be doing right now if they could? I'm going to plan to visit Hong Kong again one day. It's my favourite place in the world

Manyminieggs · 17/03/2020 21:10

I keep trying to read to the end of this before I post but never quite get there so I'm posting anyway. My very rural village shop has everything in except paracetamol...if someone is desperate for loo roll, pasta, whatevs, I could post?? The only baby milk they have is standard aptimil. Pm me if I can help in any way.

Destinysdaughter · 17/03/2020 21:12

Not been on here for a few hours and pp have left for a Whatsapp group? Why, how did that come about??

TemoraryUsername · 17/03/2020 21:16

Can I have details of the WhatsApp group to join please?

Neome · 17/03/2020 21:23

Hello 🙂 it’s been a strange few days hasn’t it.

We’re officially self isolating but also been very involved with supporting various family members by phone. In my extended family in a different area there is one definite case - very poorly elderly great granny of a cousin - whose family were summoned to hospital before she was tested and now several of them are ill but not being tested of course...

Quite a few of us are self isolating with symptoms or as part of a household. Several over 80 in the family are figuring out their plan with varying focus.

I’m so glad I can avoid shopping although I keep catching myself thinking must get this or that thing that’s running out. I don’t really need to, it’s just a habit of thought.

Best wishes to all

CakeOnMe · 17/03/2020 21:29

I’ve been wondering why the thread has been so dead today... everyone’s bugged out to whatsapp😂🤨

Coughsyrupsucks · 17/03/2020 21:37

Quick and probably stupid question. I have never had an online food delivery. I’ve done a top up order for milk and some other bits and bobs for 1st April.

How does it arrive? Should I disinfect it? I’m self isolating because I’m in an at risk group, and it suddenly occurred to me I have no idea about food deliveries. Thanks

HasaDigaEebowai · 17/03/2020 21:42

I don’t think the idea was to exclude people. It was just that the threads were very fast moving and there were lots of new people coming in asking for help which is fine and great but meant that some of the old prepping regulars couldn’t keep up so they have set up the WhatsApp group separately.

I couldn’t keep up with it and it used up all my phone storage so I came back here. Not that everyone there wasn’t very lovely too!

nightshade1 · 17/03/2020 21:42

I also missed the WhatsApp migration. All calm here but it feels like the calm before the storm- a bit eerie. Eldest (teen) school still open but they are now saying prepare for full or partial closure soon, others are homeschooled anyway so apart from no groups on its business as usual.

Asian supermarkets seem to have normal levels of stock

MyHipsDontLieUnfortunately · 17/03/2020 21:53

My Tesco delivery is brought to my doorstep in crates. DH likes to just carry them through to the kitchen but I prefer to chuck it into bags and then transfer it. I don't intend to disinfect but that's because in my head I already have the virus Blush (or in other words, I've felt a bit rough for a while).

Coughsyrupsucks · 17/03/2020 21:53

@WhereDoWeGo Thanks! It’s Tesco’s, there didn’t seem to be an option for bags. Will have another look.

Riverhouse · 17/03/2020 21:53

Think I should say hello. I've lurked since the start but never really thought I had anything good to add. Just letting you know there's others here and still reading.
I'm in Scotland and thinking it won't be long until our school closes, I hope so anyway!
Thanks to this thread I have enough food etc in for the 5 of us, and went and bought seeds today. I have an allotment but won't be able to go if we're quarantined as it's a good bit away from the house, so thinking of putting the stuff in the back garden in containers.

My house has never been so clean or in top of the washing either 😉

Gammeldragz · 17/03/2020 21:56

Still here, wrote a long post and lost it...
No idea on WhatsApp but I dislike it anyway as I find constant notifications intrusive.

lachy · 17/03/2020 21:58

I'm here too. I like it here Grin

We've officially been put on 4 weeks WFH with immediate effect, so the next month is going to feel very odd.

I had to go into Tesco to collect our prescriptions and from the little of it I did see the shelves were bare.

I only need to replenish fresh fruit and vegetables, and possibly bread but we don't eat a lot of that anyway.

I also filled the car up with petrol - I won't be doing much driving but I'm concerned that there may be supply issues so will keep the car as full as possible.

it feels very real all of a sudden Flowers

HasaDigaEebowai · 17/03/2020 21:59

It all feels a bit depressing today what with businesses expected to fail, Laura Ashley going under, cinemas and most theatres closing etc

nightshade1 · 17/03/2020 21:59

I gave up my allotment this winter, just not enough hours in the day, but I'm eyeing up the overgrown front lawn as a possible new veg patch- I have loads of seeds and as it looked like we will be socially distancing for a long time I figured it would be good for exercise and mental clarity as well as food.

peachgreen · 17/03/2020 22:03

I've found today the toughest yet. So much bad news.

Gammeldragz · 17/03/2020 22:04

Two local secondary schools closed or partially closed today.
We are meant to be isolated due to Ds1 having a mild cough but I have to go into work as no one to cover my clinics and work have said it's up to me (which is annoying, I wanted them to make the decision either way!) so now I get to feel guilty for breaking the rules or guilty for leaving patients without essential care (some stuff needs doing like wounds). I will cancel everything I can and do annual reviews by phone. DS is very unlikely to have CV and it's likely we will actually get it at some point so there will be enough disruption to the service as it is. Feeling uneasy though...

DH filled up my car with fuel today, I went to do it yesterday after work as the light was on and they were queuing into the road, apparently was only one other car there this afternoon!

Have noticed a few gaps in the preps, but have managed to book an online delivery for 10 days time in case I can't get stuff before then, if I can I will cancel so someone else can have the slot.

WrapTrap · 17/03/2020 22:05

How do we get on the what's app group??!
