A lot of us have been here before. We Prepped for Brexit. Some of us are Heathcare workers. We prepare for the worst every day. It's difficult to predict what will happen in our lives. In our lifetime. Will we get Cancer? Will a huge meteorite wipe the world out?

One thing is for sure, this new virus is either affecting us, or is going to affect us all very soon. You are all already onboard. I hope you are prepared and much as you can be. And in the meantime this thread is here to support us all.

This week will bring many new challenges. We are almost certain to have some sort of lockdown. Like other parts of Europe. We aren't special. We aren't different. We are all
fragile souls. But I hope we live to tell the tale.

God Speed.

@MrsWhites - 4 weeks in isolation now at various levels

@preponderings - sympathy 😰 Yes I think he should get up early

@doneaflit - hopefully a lack of testing. Lots of asymptomatic carriers. Have a read of this about Vo where an early outbreak was. twitter.com/andreamatranga/status/1239774862572277760?s=21

Waiting for our new stats...

BlackeyedSusan · 17/03/2020 17:06

Nothing yet.

PM(R4 prog not BJ) did say they think that the real number is something like 50,000

Also that there is a three week lag in figures in intensive care but measures will have an effect already on transmission.

BlackeyedSusan · 17/03/2020 17:08

BJ on now.

May have to go further and faster in coming days

Increasing capacity of NHS

Doing all can to boost science and research

Do whatever it takes to support our economy

Strengthen other public services.

Lombardy is exhausted and Bergamo is collapsing, there are no more intensive care places.

The 80 intensive care beds reserved for patients hospitalized in serious conditions for the Coronavirus at the Papa Giovanni XXII hospital in Bergamo, the area most affected by the epidemic, are all occupied. The dramatic situation, confirmed by hospital sources, has been recorded in these hours. For patients who will need ventilation and oxygen, the Italian intensive care network will be used.

The Minister of Infrastructure and Transport, Paola De Micheli, signed a decree with the Minister of Health which obliges self-isolation, for the following 14 days, for people returning, even if asymptomatic compared to COVID-19. The decree concerns anyone who returns to Italy by any means of transport. The decree is in force until March 25th.

The President of the Calabria Region has ordered the "closure" of the Municipality of Montebello Jonico, in the province of Reggio Calabria. "I have just issued the ordinance - said Santelli - a measure that became necessary following the number of positive cases to Coronavirus recorded between yesterday and today ". Among the positive people there is also the mayor of the Reggio Emilia center Domenico Crea.

@BlackeyedSusan great minds!

BlackeyedSusan · 17/03/2020 17:22

Business rate holiday extended to more businesses.

echobench · 17/03/2020 17:26

Here we go... one of my DC has a fever as of today so we are self-isolating.

Meanwhile we got the terrible news today that one of the grandparents has cancer and doesn't have long to live.

We are devastated. We can't even see them because of isolating. DC is distraught. Isolating within the house is really miserable.

So glad, though, to have plenty of thermometer covers, batteries, hand cream, etc, all as a result of these threads.

BlackeyedSusan · 17/03/2020 17:32

Between the two accounts they may be able to work out what was said.

savethecat · 17/03/2020 17:32

The government claims to be helping al but have left out an entire sector - sole practitioners.

savethecat · 17/03/2020 17:33

and freelancers

VenetoResident · 17/03/2020 17:33

MoonlightMistletoe · 17/03/2020 17:35

Well he shut that school question right down didn't he!

ooopsupsideyourhead · 17/03/2020 17:38

Sorry to hear about your news @echobench

JellyFishSquish · 17/03/2020 18:03

Strengthen support for individuals - vulnerable - mortgage lenders month holiday

WHAT ABOUT THE RENTERS??

Legoandloldolls · 17/03/2020 18:07

Some heads are closing schools anyway. They can no longer safely support the kids esp inSEN settings

tryingtoprep · 17/03/2020 18:13

Agree @JellyFishSquish I was thinking especially what about private renters. What if someone's in one of the higher risk categories, needs to self isolate as per government advice, but their landlord issues a Section 21? Also obviously there needs to be rent help for people affected by self isolating. I'm so lucky DP and I can work from home. I know many can't.

wheresmymojo · 17/03/2020 18:21

If anyone sees any more detailed info about today's measures can you post a link?

Lots of us waiting on the detail so we can figure out if it will really help us or not..

IndecentFeminist · 17/03/2020 18:21

Our school has told us to be planning for teaching next week. Realistically though any kids with asthma, diabetes, vulnerable family members are already staying away. Likewise the staff. We won't be able to meet ehcps, not sure how it'll work.

JellyFishSquish · 17/03/2020 18:24

Not just self isolating renters. How about renters on zero hours contracts who have no work now? Pub workers who are let go because people are asked not to go to the pub? So many people rent and work to pay for that rent, and many of them have no work now... What to do??

MrsWhites · 17/03/2020 18:37

@MoonlightMistletoe what did they say about schools? I missed anything about schools!

Sprayitall · 17/03/2020 18:39

Hi all,
Sorry couldn’t check in often. Been a busy day today sorting out few things and aiming to set up a local food bank so it’s easy for everyone and was also sorting out with few contacts to discuss how we are going to handle social distancing as a community. Some lovely people around. All without leaving the home. How are you all prepping up for today. I run a small business with less staffs (just 3) but 10k is very less I should say. Something is better than nothing. How do we approach banks for a mortgage holiday at this instance? I think it will be very helpful for people like me. Dh runs a limited company - will any help be available for him? Does anyone know?

cornflakecrispie · 17/03/2020 18:40

Hi

I've been lurking on these threads for a good long while now but not posted before. Just wanted to say thank you for all the tips and advice. I am starting to get very very anxious now but I know I can read these threads and feel a little calmer.

I work in a school and today we had over 25% of the kids off (unprecedented for us - we have really high attendance normally) We also sent home a further 5 families of children because they were coughing. Those of you who are worried about keeping your kids off, most teachers and staff don't want the kids at school either. Everyone I've spoke to thinks we should close ASAP. We are also now 5 members of staff down. All teachers are preparing for schools to be shut soon.

Sprayitall · 17/03/2020 18:45

I am asking all this information here because it will really help to financially prep for the exceptional situation that has risen now. DD’s school is still on the unauthorised absence thing but I really feel for the teachers there. Also feel there should be something done for the renters out here. I think government can atleast arrange some help there.
