A lot of us have been here before. We Prepped for Brexit. Some of us are Heathcare workers. We prepare for the worst every day. It's difficult to predict what will happen in our lives. In our lifetime. Will we get Cancer? Will a huge meteorite wipe the world out?

One thing is for sure, this new virus is either affecting us, or is going to affect us all very soon. You are all already onboard. I hope you are prepared and much as you can be. And in the meantime this thread is here to support us all.

This week will bring many new challenges. We are almost certain to have some sort of lockdown. Like other parts of Europe. We aren't special. We aren't different. We are all
fragile souls. But I hope we live to tell the tale.

God Speed.

They did say they will test more again. Think someone behind the scenes has read them the riot act.

Fivefourthree · 17/03/2020 15:18

Yes, meaning they are seriously ill, I should think.

BlackeyedSusan · 17/03/2020 15:19

I feel like it doesn't matter anymore as we are at home for 14 days.

BlackeyedSusan · 17/03/2020 15:20

It is a weird disconnection.

QueSera · 17/03/2020 15:59

If the UK follows Italy's pattern, we'll have around 27 deaths today.
If we follow that pattern, it will be around Sunday when our daily toll will exceed 100.
Let's hope to high heaven that we are on a different (ie less extreme) track.

Legoandloldolls · 17/03/2020 16:08

I bought 1.75 litres of vodka today and four crates of coke cans.

All of the kids clubs are cancelled. I have never seen shops so bare of everything.

The fact that's no provision for carers, disabled or OAPs to shop and it's just a scramble for the fittest. I hope I can still look after my mum, but how if we cant travel or I cant I cant buy petrol?

I am extending a house in a another county. It's not quite finished but I'm tempted to finish what I can and move her in.

I'm angry as I'm in a 3 bed house with 4 kids. My sis in a 4 bed house with no kids but like always I have to sort her out

MoonlightMistletoe · 17/03/2020 16:11

So we went from 35 to 55 deaths yesterday, now 407 positives today, somehow I feel it's going to be higher than 27deaths, I really hope not but it seems everything has escalated so so quickly these past few days.

tinkywinkyshandbag · 17/03/2020 16:12

@ooopsupsideyourhead just cracked in whole, not beaten?

Mrsemcgregor · 17/03/2020 16:12

I picked up some Tesco own sterilising tablets today. I’ve only used them for bottles years ago, but I’m thinking I can make up a solution for surface cleaning? Is that right?

MoonlightMistletoe · 17/03/2020 16:12

I have two mushy bananas so going to make a banana loaf to save them! Waiting for the shower head to de scale , keeping busy today as yesterday I wasn't feeling well at all mentally.

Legoandloldolls · 17/03/2020 16:13

Why is it that some people can never step up? They can be everything to the right people but when they know they have vulnerable family the kindness falls short?

Legoandloldolls · 17/03/2020 16:14

@Mrsemcgregor yes you are correct. Snap them into four or eight while still in the pack of you can to make up smaller volumes

ooopsupsideyourhead · 17/03/2020 16:24

@tinkywinkyshandbag yup! I should have said, this is an experiment though. Normally I would beat them, and I’ve done that before, but I found a few websites that said if you don’t store them too long they’re ok. We will see!

ooopsupsideyourhead · 17/03/2020 16:25

Although, now I can’t find the websites. Shit.

Mrsemcgregor · 17/03/2020 16:29

@Legoandloldolls thanks, I was fairly sure from the babies days that I remembered something like that.

ooopsupsideyourhead · 17/03/2020 16:33

@tinkywinkyshandbag yeah! Don’t do that!!! I’ve buggered up 😬😂 oh well. They didn’t cost me anything and there will be another load on Friday. Don’t like food waste though.

Pebble21uk · 17/03/2020 16:33

When is today's press conference / statement... have I missed it?

doneaflit · 17/03/2020 16:41

@venetoresident is there any talk in Italy about why the numbers in hospital are so high? I seem to remember from the numbers in China at the start that 'they' were saying 80% of people would have mild symptoms, 20% need hospital treatment and 5 ish % critical care. But Italy has over half in hospital, and 10% of current cases in critical care? What's happened?

savethecat · 17/03/2020 16:51

Yes , isnt there supposed to be a conference daily at 4.45 pm?

MoonlightMistletoe · 17/03/2020 16:53

@Pebble21uk bbc1 coming on soon.

savethecat · 17/03/2020 16:53

Always late. No manners.

SnowWhiteApple0 · 17/03/2020 16:54

Hello all,

Long time lurker/prepper and fan of Bellini here :)

I've seen some talk about O2 saturation monitiors on here. Just wanted to say don't panic if you haven't got one or can't get one. They're only useful at home to help you identify if a medical intervention is required. There are plently of ways to do this without using one.

While DC are well, you can count their respiration for 60 seconds (will be different when asleep) find out their norm. Highly elevated resps, pulling in between ribs when breathing, pulling in at bottom of throat when breathing, not speaking in full sentences due to breathlessness, poor perfusion - pale or blue tinge to lips.... these are all indicators that medical care is required asap.

From looking at stats, children are much less likely to need intensive treatment so it should be available if they need it - but it could just be they require some supp O2, Abx or steroids etc. Either way - no matter how much we've prepped - we can't do anything to remedy these situations without medical help. It's out of our power - we can only prep things in our control.

The helplessness is scary and anxiety provoking I know - but our kids are safer than we are in this particular senario which brings me a bit if reassurance if nothing else. You'll know in your bones if things are serious - we have good instincts or we wouldn't have prepped in the first place.

Sending love and support to you all. Xxx

Please update those of us at work!

Pebble21uk · 17/03/2020 16:59

Thanks Moonlight

QueSera · 17/03/2020 17:05

14 new deaths in the past 24 hours.
Thankfully fewer than I had feared.
