I started the abortion process and I regret it. Can a fetus survive mifepristone??

I appreciate the absurdity of asking for kindness on the internet, but please be considerate and try not to judge me too harshly for what I'm about to say. I'm struggling.

I'm 6 weeks pregnant. I became redundant last year due to Covid, so I've been living off of my savings. Not ideal, but manageable as a interim as I'm now back at university doing a business degree. Regardless when I found myself pregnant a couple of weeks ago I was happy, (I already have a 3 year old son from a previous relationship and the thought of expanding my family really made me happy). The revelation caused my partner to instantly leave me, however. He virtually vanished into a puff of smoke. I've not heard from him since.

Since then I've been weighing up the pros and cons, and decided that abortion was my only reasonable option. It seemed like the rational choice. I would struggle to afford another child on my own, and doing it all on my own again seems pretty overwhelming. Not only that, but my family would be very unsupportive of me being a single mum to 2 children with 2 fathers. (Not an issue in my eyes, but I can imagine their comments).

So, I collected my pills on Tuesday. I was putting off the process. I talked myself into starting it yesterday. I took the first pill (the mifepristone), and I instantly broke down and realised it was a mistake. I tried to make myself sick, but I couldn't. The regret was instant and overwhelming. My initial qualms and panics seem futile.

I spoke to a 111 gyno last night who told me not to take the second batch and to hope that the first pill doesn't work. He said there's hope and I'm praying for a miracle. All I can do is sit and wait. I feel so bloody stupid, and I'm not asking for sympathy for obvious reasons.

Has anyone else been here though????

I’ve just come across this thread and feel so invested! How did everything go Kiki?

I hope you’re well xx

Just went through this whole thread. Have been searching the internet for information regarding the complications etc after taking mifepristone only. About 48hours ago I took the mifeprostine pill and have decided I don't want to go on with taking the 2nd pills. I'm willing to accept whatever the outcome is of this decision. Just wondering if I should be taking progesterone to increase chances of the pregnancy continuing. I felt pressured to take the pill and realized it was actually not what I wanted but was really out of fear.

How did it go Kiki? I know this is probably a time in your life you don't want to think of right now but knowing you had a successful pregnancy and birth would bring me so much hope!

Sam193 · 05/01/2024 22:20

Hey hope ur well!
I’m currently in the same position and just wondering how things went?

Sam193 · 05/01/2024 22:21

@Confused15 hope ur well!
do you mind sharing how it all went?

Confused15 · 05/01/2024 22:36

@Sam193 Lying here feeding a healthy 10 month old baby. I didn't take the second tablet and they are fine. Didn't really have any symptoms except some cramps and very sight spotting for the few days post mifepristone. I was more like 12 weeks when I took it, from what I gathered there is more chance of it surviving the later you take it. However there's still a good chance at any point of pregnancy. I hope everything goes well for you.

Sam193 · 05/01/2024 22:40

@Confused15 I’m so happy for you! So glad everything worked out, I’ve taken it today at 10 weeks I just have to see what happens now. I saw someone mention possible autism link to taking the pill, this worried me a bit. Did you have any experience of this?

Caitssk · 20/01/2024 18:43

Took mifepristone and regretted it 3 days ago today I started light bleeding small tiny clots now becoming more red blood rather than brown and getting slowly heavier. Hospital said to wait it out until Monday. Not sure if start of miscarriage from taking those first tablets.
24 hours after taking tablets though I had private scan and baby was alive now its been over 70 hours 3 days since tablets and now bleeding? Any advice.

I’m not sure how this worked out for the op. I can’t see an update - and that sometimes means everything was ok and no more support was needed! I hope that’s the case! 🙏🏼
im just here to add my experience for anyone that searches this subject.
I took the first pill and regretted it instantly. I was told by a nurse at BPAS that as long as I don’t take the other pills there is a chance things can work out and it’s not uncommon! I called so many medical professionals because I was going out of my mind. Everyone else I spoke to was very negative and told me the outlook was bleak and the baby probably wouldn’t survive. I was a total wreck. I was influenced by the father to take the pills, I didn’t really want to.
I am her to say my baby survived!!! She is 1 year old and healthy full of life! Absolutely perfect. I was also 44 at the time!!! Don’t believe the lies! I think they want us to think it’s over with the first pills! Only one nurse told me there was hope and she was very certain that there was actually hope!!! Im not saying 100% things will be ok if you’re in this situation because miscarriages are so common anyway. If you don’t have a strong pregnancy and you’ve taken the first pill I think you would probably lose the baby but you would quite possibly have lost it without the medication - if that makes sense!
I searched up foods to help progesterone production and ate everything I could! Not sure if it helped. I could not believe it when I saw the heartbeat on the scan!!! 🥹
Big hugs to anyone going though this! It’s heartbreaking. ❤️
Also, there is NO HARM TO YOUR BODY from not taking the seconds pills!!!! NOBODY TOLD ME THIS, not any of the drs, nurses, etc.
Seek medical advice immediately and tell your GP and abortion clinic what is going on so they can advise you! You need to get scanned booked in and you will find out what’s happening. Good luck!

What a happy ending. Congratulations to you.

And the father? Did he change his attitude when he saw you felt it was a mistake to have taken the pill?

He did yes ❤️
