jj - sorry you are bug-fighting, hope it is a quick one and clears up soon.

erm - good luck with the cunning bath plan!

johnworf · 04/07/2009 20:52

Oh lordy. Are you feeling that bad JJ? My GP told me that swine flu isn't as bad as real flu although I'm not sure how that one works. Praps as it's non flu season at the mo? Really hope that it isn't and it clears up. Btw, K nearly always starts doing new things when we've just gone to get a clean nappy or something and then you're left wondering how on earth they did whatever they did. I'm sure that babies are much cleverer than we give them credit for.

ermintrude glad to hear that Arthur is getting into the swing of things. You sound like you're doing alright too Pished already!

Mine wouldn't bring a course each. They can just about manage to get themselves round to mine DS#1 can't make tomorrow's lunch so he's threatened said he's coming up on Monday instead and we can have lunch. I'm guessing that he won't be paying...but he may surprise me yet

For vomitting episodes I've always given mine dryish toast and boiled water. Scrambled eggs when they're getting better. I've tried to starve them for 24 hours though if they'd let me...not often.

No idea if DH has got my anything. I'll be amazed if he has! I think me and hedgepig share a DH

mrsb DD#1 never crawled. Went straight to walking. D might do the same.

Thanks ladies for the sympathy....just reckon I'm run-down. Just feel SO utterly exhausted and achey - it is really weird. I slept for 2 hours this afternoon - mind you Iris slept for 4!!!

jw well, we've seen her do it now - it's hilarious. We put Verity on her front and she hand walks up to her knees like a weird yoga pose and flips her legs round as though she has knees that pivot!! She clearly could crawl but shuns it for the ever-amusing bum-shuffle...now with new, improved propelling arms!

BED...ZZZZzzzzzzzzzz...night, night x

johnworf · 04/07/2009 21:34

Awwwww JJ (((hugs))). Hope you're feeling better really soon. Probably right that you're run down. Convince OH that you would like, nay need, a cruise/holiday/parole Hope a good nights sleep does the trick.

Just laughing at Verity and the hand walking. Is that like the baby version of the moon walk?

JJ sorry you're feeling so rotten. I think that JW's GP meant that the fatality rate for swine flu is not as bad as that for the normal flu which strikes around the world. This one just has a new name and lots of media attention and spreads across a slightly younger, healthier demographic than the classic flu - which carries off old folk in winter - but doesn't kill them! Deaths tend to have occurred in cases where there are prior medical complications.

Anyway, I'm sure you haven't got it.

Don't knock bum-shuffling - my chosen mode of transport until the grand age of 16 months (I was always a lazy cow) when I stood up and walked.

Can you tell, Stormfly, that the bath plan worked - so far. The other bit of the plan is that when he sleeps, so do I, so off I go up the wooden hill to Bedfordshire...

BonzoDoodah · 04/07/2009 22:18

Thanks stormfly and jw - I gave her the rice and she ate some but nowhere near her usual 3 bowls. But at least she went to bed without wingeing about food.

Stormfly love that dream .... if only for Gaviscon - I'd have White Russian Flavour or Long Island Iced Tea. (and yes the colour and texture is just like drinking .... [pukes] mine's not pink though

jj hope you're feeling better soon. Early night for you! And erm by the looks of it!

FloriaTosca · 04/07/2009 23:30

Lord what a day!

Erm Thrilled that A is being a brilliant baby, feeding and sleeping you sound like you have it all sussed

JJ get well soon ... you definately need a tonic ...JWs holiday idea sounds good to me too.

Tee sorry you miss your mum, fabulous that she didnt overstay her welcome so you can look forward to next time. Well done on getting out with A and the pram so soon.

Bonzo Glad the rice stayed down.

Well I have spent the day charging round trying to find the very old fashioned perfume my Mother loves (unsucessfully),losing my mobile (found it on returning home...on the driveway...thank heavens)...Alex having a potty accident in the car just as we got to Mums with the pressie (nest of tables) my brother finally tracked down, then having washed his clothes and the car seat cover, popped them into the tumble dryer (in the garage)she hasnt used for 3 months only to discover when I went to retrieve them that a swarm of wasps was smothering the machine ...at the risk of life and limb(I'm allergic to wasp stings) I sprayed them with "raid" several times and rescued the articles, only to find that the swarm was attacking the machine because they had built a nest in the drum and my washing was covered in dessicated wasps and paper wasp nest!!!! No time ot rewash, I brushed everything down, reassembled the car seat, Alex sat on my knee and promptly has another accident!!!!AAAARRRGGGHHHH!!!!!!!
JW I'm sorry to have missed your calls/texts...I had no mobile as previously explained...thank you from the bottom of my heart for looking for that perfume for me...you are good beyond words... I'll return your calls in the morning at a more civilised hour ...off to bed now to recover.

FloriaTosca · 04/07/2009 23:34

ooops Alex promptly had another accident...not me...

...thats what you get for knocking back a Pimms in celebration for having survived the day!!!

iris66 · 05/07/2009 07:15

Floria at your bravery with the wasps!! - did you have an epipen to hand? Sounds like you had a really trying day (the worst things always happen when DH is away I find )

Bonzo - hope you and DD are feeling better today. I remember what I was like a few weeks back - how are your stomach muscles?

jj - love your description of the handwalk/leg flip move . Hope you're dosing yourself with plenty of vitamins for your lurgey. Lurking on other threads (and sites) it seems that swine flu is much much milder than the regular variety unless there is already an immune limiting illness involved. Millions die from regular flu each year yet very few have had real complications with this one. Media fuelling hysteria IMO (though I wouldn't go & try to catch it intentionally since cold/flu viruses apparently mutate very quickly so having it wouldn't be of any real benfit)

jw - I don't remember the scented candle theme (though it could jut be pg brain). I had a hypersensitive sense of smell (and olfactory hallucinations ) when pg with the boys and have only been able to tolerate nail varnish/perfumes and the like since about 6mths pg with this. It's great!

hedgepig - still no prezzie?!!! I'd be tempted to go and buy something really expensive, unwrap it in front of him shrieking "oh thankyou darling it's just what I wanted!!"... and watch his face

It's coolish again here (blissful!)- just done my morning ironing of the only dress that fits (come on baby!!!!) then a little light cleaning beckons before mum arrives. DS2 singing out for me so better go...

johnworf · 05/07/2009 07:49

Good moaning all.

floria you sound like you really had a day of it y'day. No wonder I couldn't reach you if your mobile was on your driveway! Bugger! Well I left you a message but you probably got it very late last night. I really hope that A gives mummy a well deserved rest in bed

ermintrude I think that's what my GP meant about swine flu - less fatalities and the like.

bonzo glad that M has taken some rice. Hopefully her tum will be back to normal today after a little rest and the bug has abaited.

iris you didn't miss that much with the scented candle chat a few weeks back. It was just about why DH's thought the scented candles were a waste of time. I'd bought a couple and my DH called them a 'fire hazard' and asked me to bin them immediately. I don't think that OH's get the scented candle thing at all.

(not long to go now either is it? )

I'm thinking that either tee has jumped on a plane as a stowaway with her mum or that, more likely, she's crashed out somewhere - praps a washing line - trying to catch some zzzzzz's

Both myself and DH were in bed before 10pm last night. Now before you jump to any conclusions, we were both shattered. Went to sleep at same moment as head touched pillow. Feel much brighter today might add

No win on the lotto alas. Good luck how now desserted me once again. Still, it was good while it lasted!

mrsboogie · 05/07/2009 12:46

blimey Floria what a to-do

jj glad you are feeling better

not long now iris

off to the park...

Tee2072 · 05/07/2009 12:49

Okay, if anyone is wondering where I've been...I've been at the hospital with Adam.

At about 7:15 last night he fell out of my arms. I dropped my baby on our hardwood floor. We rushed to A&E to find out he cracked his skull slightly.

He's going to be fine, in hospital to at least tomorrow due to tests and 24 hours of observation. He never lost conciousness or vomited. He's going to be fine.

Mummy, on the other hand, has been crying for 16 hours and feels like the worst mummy in the world. I know it was an accident, but I dropped my baby!!!!!!!!!!

We are going to be visit by social services, as he is so small and due to his injuries. No one at the hospital thinks it was deliberate, they all believe it was an accident, but they have to report it. I'm glad they do, better to report it and find nothing than take it at my word and have another dead baby in the world.

So I'm home to eat and get some sleep and bathe and then I'll head back to the hospital.

johnworf · 05/07/2009 12:55

Oh tee you poor love. I bet you are beside yourself with worry, guilt and all the usual mummy emotions. I'm so glad that A will be ok. I'm sure the visit by SS is just a formality though and the hospital probably has to report anything similar.

Please keep us updated on how A is and when he'll be coming home.

Sending you (((((((((BIG HUGS)))))))) Don't beat yourself up. We've all had accidents, honestly we have. I had my own chair in A&E when my older ones were little I was there so often.

OP posts:
iris66 · 05/07/2009 13:00

OMG Tee you poor thing Glad that Adam's totally fine and hope you will be kind to yourself too.

Really though it happens to all of us.You are not a bad mummy!!! I can totally understand you being in bits though. I thwacked DD's head on the corner of a wall going upstairs when she was tiny, cut the end off DS1's finger trying to cut his nails and nicked DS2's ear trying to cut his hair (all under 2mths )

You get some rest - hope we hear from you soon (((hugs))) to you & DH (and Adam)

heron22 · 05/07/2009 13:44

tee Oh love, i am sorry to hear about A and so glad he will be ok. it was an accident. you were prob really tired. as the others have said, pleasee try not be too hard on yourself.

jeanjeannie · 05/07/2009 16:15

tee OMG you guys must have been in total pieces Great news that Adam is fine and that you got him to A&E quickly.

Accidents with LOs happen to us all - it doesn't make us bad parents. I was in the bath with Iris when she was about 7mths old - picked her up and she slipped - smacked her head on the hard enamel...it was awful. And, only the other week, Verity knocked herself out for the count and I had to get an ambulance. Do try not to be too hard on yourselves. HUGE (((HUGS)))) xxxxxx Let us know when he's home and dry with you. And SS will be a formality, like you said.

johnworf · 05/07/2009 16:54

Thought there might be news from tee but she's probably still with A at the hospital. Do hope that they're just keeping an eye on him like they do with head knocks. Tbh whenever mine hurt their heads, even little knocks, it always sent me into a spin with worry. No idea why. I think my mother probably told me some awful tale that scared me stupid.

JJ how were the trains? Did the girls like them?

iris any movements (not counting bowels)?

mrsb did the park entertain his lordship? I have him down as a slide kinda guy

We're off out for a birthday tea with just DS#1 missing. He's gone off to pick his g/f up from work so......DS#2 is staying over with DD#1 tonight. The two boys will then descend again tomorrow and we're out for lunch. DD#1 won't be with us as she'll be working so not quite managed the logistics for all together. No worries though

The menfolk are glued to the tennis final but sadly I shall have to drag them away soon.

I'm worried my pants are getting tight. Must get back to diet Tuesday....Well maybe Wednesday as floria is coming for lunch on Tuesday....oh dear. The road to hell is paved with good intentions

OP posts:
dawntigga · 05/07/2009 17:59

tee! So sorry to hear that, all the accidents (that didn't come out the way I meant!) have been my fault so far - bumped his head and accidently clipped his leg in the catch on the car seat

I felt terrible!

You have to remember accidents happen and that's what it was - an accident! He's fine and you aren't to blame!

SMOOCHES

dxx

mrsboogie · 05/07/2009 18:04

Poor tee what a mare! Hope she doesn't beat herself up over it (easier said than done) these things happen. Have seen threads on here loads of times about babies falling and being dropped. D has had a few whacks to the head.

D enjoyed the park I will put a pic of him on the swings up soon. Saw quite a few toddlers walking around who were quite a bit smaller than him.

enjoy the evening jw

Stormfly · 05/07/2009 18:05

Tee - glad Adam is okay. I know we feel totally terrible when accidents like this happen. I remember hurrying through a doorway carrying dd as a baby, misjudging it and her head smacking on the lintel . And as you say, it's best that SS check out everyone so they can catch the non-accidental ones. Do be kind to yourself, you've had a nasty shock. Hope he's home really soon!

Tee2072 · 05/07/2009 18:15

Hi All

Sorry I've been silent. Had a long sleep and then a long bath and now some dinner and then back to the hospital for a few hours. I was going to spend the night again, but DH convinced me better to get a long nights sleep in my own bed since tomorrow is going to be a long day.

DH just spoke to the hospital and they came and checked the back of his eyes and he is fine. Next thing, tomorrow, they will do a full body XRay to make sure they haven't missed any broken bones and to double check that he hasn't cracked some ribs, which is what they thought at first. Ribs can look fine until 24 - 48 hours after, so they definitely want to check those again.

With any luck and early XRays he'll be able to come home tomorrow afternoon/evening. he has to be observed for 24 hours total, which is until about midnight tonight. Then the XRays, which they can't do on Sunday because they need a high level XRay tech to check, due to his age and the extensive nature of them.

He really is fine. Eating the same, sleeping the same, poohing for Ireland the same!

Its mummy whose a wreck. I am slowly getting better as each exam reveals he's fine. Daddy is doing much better than mummy, but he didn't drop him and didn't even see me drop him as his back was to us when it happened.

I just wish I could remember how it happened, so I could prevent it from happening again. But one second he was in my arms, the next he was flying through the air and hitting the floor.

Anyway, sorry for the novel, but there's the update. Hope everyone else is well!

mrsboogie · 05/07/2009 18:41

good news tee sooo glad all is well.

Please don't worry about it happening again - lightening doesn't often strike twice - next time he gives you a scare it will be something totally different!

D slipped out of DP's arms when he was bending down to place him in his bouncy chair when he was a couple of months old. He didn't fall far and landed in the chair but it was a fright for all concerned - DP said his clothing was slippy and he just slipped out of his hands.

Anyway normal service resumes tomorrow! and v sensible to have a good sleep tonight in your own bed - its not as if A is ill or anything.

iris66 · 05/07/2009 18:46

Hope you get a good night's sleep Tee Glad all's well.

The only casualty tonight will be my DH who has turned into a complete arse making "funny" jokes about my aching ankles

mrsboogie · 05/07/2009 19:03

no stirrings then iris?
