sniff my mum just left. For the first time in about, oh, 40 years, I am truly sorry to see her go. It was a really great visit.

jw I can see your concern about K and dehydration. Putting her in the bath, believe it or not, will help a bit as some liquid will be absorbed through the skin. Hopefully the cooler weather will help a bit as well and she'll be willing to drink something soon. Darn kids!

iris almost there!! And then you'll still be hormonal.

I forgot to say that my SIL went in for her induction yesterday at 41 + 3. No word since yesterday evening when FIL rang to say they had sent her and her DH off for a walk and they would do another sweep/pessary at 11pm. Poor thing has been suffering so much in this heat, I hope something is happening now!

Off on our first voyage as a family to the shops in a bit. Daddy is looking forward to pushing the pram!

johnworf · 04/07/2009 09:25

Awwww tee sorry to hear that your mum has left and you're upset Still, you can start being your own little family unit now that everyone has gone Hope that daddy enjoys 'driving' the pushchair!

iris she's stuck on yoghurts at the mo although she will eat fruit pots when she's in the mood. Giving her anything to eat by herself at the moment is hard work. It gets rubbed around the table then thrown onto the floor She managed some apple juice with water this morning and she had about 2.5 ounces of milk before she tired of it so it's not that she's drinking absolutely no liquids at all. Plus, the temp has cooled slightly here. I dunno. I can't physically make her drink. I guess that if she's thirsty enough then she'll drink.

SMOOCHES to all and a joyous Independance Day if you happen to be American

dxx

johnworf · 04/07/2009 09:56

Morning dawntigga. Not really one to celebrate independence day here. Would be silly really as no one american in the house.

DH has gone out on an emergency present finding mission. I just know I'll end up with something shit unusual. It's an annual celebration of anything that Tesco has to offer...........flowers, chocolates, charcoal.

Morning all. Feel ruff as a ruff Have a fat throat - think I've got the girls' cold....grrr.

Night out was nice - went to YO! Sushi...yum yum but we both ate surprisingly little Then we went to see a bad movie called Year One with Jack Black...very silly but you didn't have to think!

DP has gone out with the girls - so it's going to be a tidying frenzy for me.

iris yes, almost there...the home stretch is horrid...and in this heat. Cooler here - hope it is with you.

tee Awwww, sorry that you're feeling upset. jw is right though....now it's you guys as your own little family...and you've got such a smart little sleeper too! I reckon you'll be into the swing of it in no time x

Right - may try and check in later - have a nice weekend all xx

mrsboogie · 04/07/2009 11:01

morning all

jw I wouldn't worry too much re the not drinking - she might be teething - D does exactly the same when he is and has had a few dry nappies. She will drink when she needs to. In the meantime some frozen fruit juice ice lollies would do the trick.

tee its great that the visit was a success and she stayed just long enough that you were sad to see her go rather than dying to see her off. Also great that she would come all this way to help you - many (mine) wouldn't!

Glad you feel better iris time to take it easy now and pamper yourself a bit how about getting yourselof some of this ?

We are getting short on pregnant ladies now aren't we - but if we move out of pregnancy we won't meet any nice new 40 mummies...

jeanjeannie · 04/07/2009 11:07

Oh yes jw forgot to say - SNAP on the not drinking front. Both girls aren't drinking - I think it's because they're sweating so much. I've just been shoving yoghurt/fruit and cereal down them. I've also noticed their nappies are really dry too.

FloriaTosca · 04/07/2009 11:32

JW Hope K gets a thirst on her soon... you could always let her eat some bacon or crisps...sorry, just joking, ..have you tried an ice lolly? I didnt think your bday was until Monday? We are on emergency pressie finding today as today is my mums bday today and bro who said "I'll get the oak nest of tables from costco from both of us" last week has just phoned to say he isnt even sure if the store still has them in ...aaaaarrrrghgghhhh!!!....I'll throttle him!!

loldawn...my newly american pal wished me a happy 4th on Fb...I told her I didnt usually celebrate losing a war

right ...better go source some of mums favourite... obsolete... perfume.

FloriaTosca · 04/07/2009 11:36

that took me ages to write (pottying etc) so xposted JJ great minds think alike...glad you had a nice night.

johnworf · 04/07/2009 13:16

Phew. Glad that you other ladies have experienced the no drinking. She's had quite a lot of the HIPP apple with mineral water today. I gave her a couple of fat puffs (no, not Christopher Biggins and a friend) in the guise of Organix carrot sticks. They really made her thirsty so thanks floria!

She's got such a sore bottom at the moment too. I stupidly used some Huggies wipes on her bum last week and since then it's got really sore. I'm just dipping her in Metanium hourly in a bid to rid her of it.

I'm wondering now if they are related and it's teeth (although can't see any coming).

JJ sore throat? Is this your pennance for having a night out? Bugger! Why? Pleased to hear that your DH has chipped in and taken the girls out while you have a semi-rest. Sending you non-lurgy vibes over the t'internet xxx

flora my official b'day is indeed on Monday. That's why I was sad to hear that they're making iris wait until Tuesday. Don't those silly doctors know that a day earlier and her LO could share it with someone like me? They probably do hence Tuesday Actually I know at least 3 people who share my b'day but not my year. I hope that your bro comes up trumps on his Costco mission. Never trust a man to get a present. Never. I'm sure you won't after this year

DH has returned from wherever he's been rustling plastic bags upstairs. No idea what. I'm guessing Tesco though

As well as my b'day on Monday, it's also my wedding anniversary - 2 years of misery wedded bliss

OP posts:
iris66 · 04/07/2009 13:45

jj - am I really want to see Year One (am guessing I'll have to wait until it comes out on DVD now though)

herbaceous - conspicuous by your absence I see can I smell a new baby?

duchesse / neddie - still around?

mrsb - thanks for the link (though my credit card thinks perhaps not - especially as I was hammering it at 5.30 this morning buying DH an anniversary prezzie too!!) Just ordered some moody cow candles (pour moi)and a gift set for DD as a moving in prezzie (though it may end up being from the new baby as I've not got her anything yet - would hate for her to feel left out )

Well, I'm barefoot, pregnant and in the kitchen with DS1 painting - DH is relaxing (as only a man can on a Saturday afternoon)and I think I'm in the wrong century

jw - glad that K's having more fluids and hope your DH has a nice surprise for you Don't discount me having this one on your birthday still though! My mum's now arriving tomorrow and my little brother and big sis are both coming monday.

Tee - hope you're enjoying your family time and not too sad over your mum going.

oops - just turned round to see that DS has spongepainted both arms to the top with black paint best go and supervise a bit more!

mrsboogie · 04/07/2009 13:51

didn't realise you'd only been married 2 yrs jw still in the honeymoon period eh?

Am trying not to be annoyed by the fact that D won't eat at home, all week have been told things like "he ate loads today" and "had to give him seconds" and then the wee bugger refuses everything I give him whether finger food or on a spoon has also decided that he cannot be arsed holding any food and expects us to hold things while he bites and chews them..

iris66 · 04/07/2009 14:06

jw - yes, I read it as you'd been married for 12yrs for some reason Ours is on the 14th (10 years ) and they said it's never last

Mrsb - you know D is only refusing food to annoy you don't you

mrsboogie · 04/07/2009 14:09

/sigh

yup iris I think he is...

am one of those people who always tells others that the worst thing you can do is get worked up about it so am currently trying to take my own advice..

iris66 · 04/07/2009 14:15

"it's never last"?? - oops! I meant "it'd"

6 paintbrushes, 3 rollers, 5 bits of sponge and a paint tray. One 3yr old, 15 minutes, and paint is(was) everywhere!(including on the easel, floor and himself!)

DS safely passed (with comic) to DH and I think I'm off for a lie down now .

hedgepig · 04/07/2009 15:18

sounds like you are having fun Iris JW at least you are getting a pressie! DH is still working on mine, I am so tolerant.

I am well fed up! I just bought some football curtains for B on ebay, they were used so I wasn't expecting perfect but half the string in the header tape is missing so you can't pull them up grrrrr I have emailed the seller to ask for a refund, we will see what the response is.

Tee sorry your mum has gone but hope you and DH can have some nice settling in time with A.

Tee2072 · 04/07/2009 17:27

Afternoon all!

Had a lovely trip to City Centre complete with a old biddy lady asking me how old Adam was and then raising her eyebrow when I told her.

It is nice to have our house back!

iris hope the paint came off okay! And that you had a nice lie down.

JW I have found that a combination of nappy cream (whatever one you prefer) covered with Vaseline helps clear the rash and water proofs to prevent future flare ups. It was my mum's suggestion and he's bottom has been red free ever since I started to do this.

mrsb according to all my siblings, baby's always eat better for someone else. With Grandma, at school, whatever. Perhaps you could put a mask on so he doesn't know its you?

Last word on SIL was mild contractions at 8am this morning. Nothing since.

BonzoDoodah · 04/07/2009 18:41

Hey all. Finally checking in. After I'd sneak-listened to some of woman's hour the office geek collared me so I only heard the last couple of minutes of jw's very elopquent broadcast (caught the rest later on listen again - very interesting). Anyway my mouth started to water so I legged it ot the loo and puked. Bit odd as I just don't as a rule - put it down to preggers and hot. Then half an hour later nursery phoned and M had done an exorcist impression. So we both had the afternoon off watching TV and being apathetic in the heat.

M up early and seemed better but then puked up her breakfast and has spent the day being a wingeing little clingy grot. Poor mite. Rationed to water-biscuits and water all day and starving (and moaning about it). I'm going to give her boiled white rice for tea. Is this the right thing to do? (anyone?) She's starving and has was already skinny and then hasn't been eating in the heat all week so has lost weight ... so she's not got much storage to live off.

I spent the afternoon looking for a new car - test drove a gorgeous black Corsa... yummy. Just got to persuade hubby now [flutters eyelashes].
Came home to hubby in a complete STROP as it had just started raining and he had't managed to cut the hedge or grass. Tried patiently explaining that if you have a sick toddler in the house you get nothing done. Sigh.

jw if you're still struggling getting K to drink - I find M will drink pureed sprouts anything if it througha straw or in a fruit shoot bottle ... worth a try??

jj at adult night out ....

johnworf · 04/07/2009 19:31

Evening all.

bonzo I may just be getting a complex but do you think there is a link between you hearing my voice and puking? I so hope not...not that you'll hear my very often (thankfully). I'd hate to think I'd have that effect on you

Know what you mean about having a slim baby. Not much meat to lose is there? That's why I worry about K. Consultant has told me to feed her full fat foods and says it's fine on a petite baby to do so. She's doomed to a life of full english b/fasts and egg and chips!

iris very of the candles. Do you remember the theme of scented candles we had a while back? Were you with us then?

We've had an expedition to the traffic trafford centre. Boys went and played golf on the driving range and the girls mooched around the shops. Gawd, it was horrid. Packed and hot and K just wailed all the way around JL. Couldn't get to look at anything which was just as well. She's been prepped by her father about diversion tactics to stop mummy spending.

The kids have rung me today to make sure that sunday lunch is still on for tomorrow . Well I have a chicken in the freezer but wasn't planning to liberate it just yet. Think it's family tea out on Monday. DH has just gone for curry. Sigh. I can't have 3 big meals in 3 days. I'll be back to where I started!

K has started to pull herself from lying down to sitting up and then travelling backwards, so think it's just a matter of time before crawling begins. Fab.

mrsboogie · 04/07/2009 19:48

Lucky old K - English breakfast- what I wouldn't give...

meant to say jw saw your other Observer pics and they are indeed lovely - you are right though - some of those are even nicer than the one they used! Still, handy to have those done for you.

Have been trying to take pics of D today but he won't sit still for a second. He shows no signs of crawling - spends all his time standing and doesn't like being on his tummy. Still, if you leave him on the floor he manages to get to where he is going though a combination of rolling and some other sort of invisible propulsion...

24 hrs now with no sterilising and he is still alive!!

ermintrude's been quiet...

just put D up for a nap and went for a lovely long shower, could hear him wailing on the monitor the while time I was in there bad daddy

ermintrude13 · 04/07/2009 20:07

Helloooo

Mrsb have a look at the portions nursery are giving D. DS1 used to come home with notes about having had 4 puddings but they were teeny sizes.

Oh, and I agree we need more pregnant ladies. You volunteering? go on go on go on, you know you want to

iris aaargh, I hated it when they wanted to paint. Will push Arthur towards nice clean lego...

I'm not sure whether the humour thing has a geographical base - I'm from Yorkshire, this woman is from Notts, but I do have southern friends who would have laughed too. Personally, I think it's to do with being hugely intelligent and well balanced

Bonzo at you test driving in your condition. I could barely fit behind the wheel for the last 6 wks of preg . Found it v uncomfy to drive, looking forward to getting behind the wheel again soon.

JW will your DC get you nice pressies for your bd? As for Sunday lunch, can't they each bring round a course, or a salad or something? I think they should look after their auld mammy more!!

Tee aw, it's nice that you miss your mum. Hope SIL gets a move on - has it been on the cards for ages or is that just me getting confused with someone else's SIL? Seems like it would be 2 months late now and that can't be right.

Sister and her fiance visited and I had 2 glasses Buck's Fizz and am now pished. Cheap date! Arthur is sleeping for longer now - filling up on milky goodness so it lasts for hours - but at really bonkers times. Am going to wake him in a minute and bathe him even though he hates it, so he'll use up some energy and stay awake long enough for a big feed and then see how we go with that. Wish me luck!

Stormfly · 04/07/2009 20:09

iris - sounds like your ds had a blissful afternoon painting himself - what more could a boy wish for?

bonzo - white rice sounds about right, we either do that or dry Rice Krispies. My mum (nursing-type background) always recommends no food for 24 hours after last vomiting as she says the bug clears up quicker then, but I don't know what age it is appropriate to do that from. I do that with mine now and for the first 24 hours make up a pint of cooled boiled water with a pinch of sugar and salt and get them to sip that as a rehydration drink. Can't get milder food than rice though, surely.

Wish I could have some nice pg dreams - last night I went to sleep with heartburn and dreamt I dosed myself with Gaviscon, only it looked more like a Blue Curaçao cocktail and I thought, 'Well they've certainly improved the recipe since I was last pregnant.' Can't I think up better dreams than this? Had to have some today and it certainly hasn't improved, and it's pink. Don't remember it being pink. Is that to disguise the fact that it used to look like something unmentionable?

jeanjeannie · 04/07/2009 20:11

Evening all. God I feel rough - I'm actually tempted to Googled Swine flu I feel that awful

bonzo poor you and M Hope you feel a bit better and don't have a rotten night.

jw cor - you're a braver woman than me, the thought of going shopping on a Sat avec toddler...eek! well done Katherine - streaks ahead of Verity. She just lies there....although DP said she did a poo this morning and he turned her on her front, went to get something, came back and there she was sitting up Gawd knows how and she's not done it since! Mind you her dancing is amazing - seriously, any bit of music and she's off, you should see these shoulders go!!

Hope erm is in baby bliss!

tee you were out and about too...gosh 've just skulked the day away. Keep us posted on your SIL

May have to hit bed again...

jeanjeannie · 04/07/2009 20:16

Ah - X-post with erm Good to hear Arthur is getting the hang of downing the milk! I can only concur with your assessment of the 'humour gene'....definately down to being balanced and wildly intelligent

stormfly OOooo the heartburn is nasty. And I'd forgotten about those bonkers pregnancy dreams.

Wish I'd not googled Swine flu....

mrsboogie · 04/07/2009 20:20

I think there's a few bugs about jj that are not SF but have similar symptoms. Wouldn't worry unless you have had direct contact wit it.
