JW don't spoil my fantasy of your culinary habits. You always seem to be doing roast dinners; I want to live next door! Glad the Christmas orders are flooding in. Have you had to change all your prices because of VAT? I was in Boots last week and all my wrapping paper scanned a few pennies cheaper on the tills than they said on the labels - I must have saved, ooh, all of 37p by the time I was done. Still felt like a gift .

Yes, Lilibet, are you there and how are you doing?

dreamydowler · 08/12/2008 12:01

morning everyone. Goodness you all sound like youve had a busy weekend. We have too. Our car has decided to die a death bloody marvellous with just a few weeks to go to xmas. Looks like we wont be collecting my eldest from u i will have to get my dad to go for her next week or visiting my partners parents in Birmingham which will really get him down. Trying to find the money for another is proving hard as we still have more xmas presents and food shopping to do. The tumble drier broke this weekend too but dp has fixed that thankfully although cost £15 for a new belt robbing buggars and I now have a mountain of washing to catch up with. Still dealing with sicky kids My eldest son came back from his weekend in London with a tummy bug. Why is it every xmas IM so stressed?? Thought I was doing well on saturday after attacking a large part of the xmas shopping and being treated to a lovely pub lunch by mt parents and then all hell broke out yesterday

mrsboogie · 08/12/2008 12:23

oh dreamydowler what a mare! why is it that things like that always have to happen before Christmas?

OP posts:
johnworf · 08/12/2008 12:38

bloody hell! There's gremlins in dreamydowlers house! What was I saying to you mrsb not long ago about things always breaking at xmas time? (usually in my house I hasten to add).

dreamydowlder try and chill out. I know it's easy for me to say but unless you can change any of it, there's no point stressing about it

mrsboogie · 08/12/2008 13:20

my goodness Darragh is a sleepy boy today. Went down last night at 1am - woke at seven for a quick feed then back down again, took him downstairs at 9am where he woke, had one ounce of milk and went straight back to sleep. Still asleep now. That's 12 hours!

Hello!!

I've been missed - that is so lovely .

I think the last thing I posted was about my car crash on the ice? Well, the same day I got a phonecall from dh to say that he was being transferred by ambulance from the walk in centre, near where he works, to Liverpool Royal with a suspected broken neck . Got to the hospital to be told he was in the Serious Injuries Unit on a High Dependency Bay [shcok]

Anyhow, it's not broken, just very badly sprained, but he is in an awful lot of pain.

I had my scan on Friday and everythign is gone, according to the doctor I am "lovely and clean"

I have been very down over the past week, so many not nice things seemed to have happened to us over the past month, some of them are very little but it all mounts up. Dh is pointing out all the positives to me (we have a home, we both have jobs, none of us are seriously ill etc...)but at the mometn I'm feeling quite despondent. Mil came to visit on Friday and she upset me as she always does (the history behind that is a very long post!!). One of my mates was sympathising with everything, the leg wax on the carpet, ds getting beaten up, my crash, dh's neck and I just sat there thinking "and you don't know all of it!!"

I was asked about contraception on Friday and I honestly don't know what to do.

And I don't know who asked further down the thread but it's Patterson Joseph who is the black actor who is being backed to be the new doctor.

and the new photos are lovley!

jeanjeannie · 08/12/2008 14:05

Afternoon all.
Awww....lilibet come here and have a ((((hug)))) Your heart must have been in your mouth when you heard about your DH - thank goodness he's OK - albeit in pain, but a broken neck - it doesn't bear thinking about.

Sounds to me like soooo much has been going on and let's face it, there is only so much you can take before you think 'why me?' Concentrating on the positives is always a good thing - but it's also only natural to feel despondant at times. It sort of helps you reflect too. I'm very lucky with my MIL but it hasn't always been that way and she can unknowingly upset me (it that Polish sense of no tact - like small children!) Darn hard things MILs - can't always get on with them and you can't banish them to outter Mongolia

Don't worry about the contraception issue until you really have to - that's what I reckon. You've got enough on your plate - without having to make a decision too!

dreamydowler good lordy - sounds like the Evil pre-xmas elves have paid you a visit If you get a car don't forget to bargin like crazy - it's lean times out there for them and a sale is a sale.

ermintrude sounds like your fantasy cooking life is similar to mine. In my dreams I wander around a lovely market, fresh bread in my whicker basket, pinch and sniff the produce all while looking fresh-faced and lovely like that Irish Cook Rachel something-or-other Reality is a Riverford Organix box when I remember to get my order in on time and Sainsburys!!

jw lots of orders is good. DP is happy as he's handmaking some drawers for a nice posh lady. He singing the sawing song - I can hear him from here!!

Got sleep too. Stuck Verity into her very 'unpretty' room and she slept for 5 hours then for another 4. I'm so refreshed!

johnworf · 08/12/2008 15:14

lilibet glad to hear from you dear girl. Not glad to hear of all the goings on of late that are happening in your world Sometimes these things are sent to try us and if we make it through the other side then I think we're sometimes a stronger person for it...or driven insane and take refuge in gin I remember the leg wax on the carpet and that was such a little episode you were almost able to brush it aside..but then add it all up on top of everything else and it's the friggin cherry on top of the shit cake

I hate people who say see the positive when you've got piss all but crap in your life. But, it will get better honestly....just when I've thought my life couldn't get any shittier...it did...but then eventually it got better I'm not sure if I'm giving you words of comfort lilibet but I do understand where you're coming from (hug)

Btw, how did you restrain yourself from punching the doc when he asked you about contraception!!!? I won't even start on the 'lovely and clean' comment.

Remember you can come on here and have a good moan to us anytime you like. Jeez, I've had my money's worth of moaning on here when I had Katherine. Ask anyone! That's why they glaze over when one of my posts arrive

Loving the sawing song JJ. Record it and I'm sure it'll be a christmas #1 the week after Biff, Baff, Boff

ermintrude13 · 08/12/2008 16:00

Lol at the 'cherry on the shit cake' JW. You're so right about the people who tell you to look on the bright side though - when things are tough I know I should count my blessings, and it's a useful thing to do (there've been times when all I can think of is 'well, I don't live in a war zone and I don't have to pay for healthcare') but I don't want any other bugger counting 'em for me. So Lilibet, we will offer sympathy and understanding and an invitation to moan away, without saying things like 'worse things happen at sea' and other confusing platitudes.

It's no wonder you're down, all you've been through recently. I am impressed, though, that your DH went to a WALK-IN centre with a suspected broken neck! How hard is that man?!

ladymac · 08/12/2008 16:35

Oh lilibet what a time you've been having lately. How did your DH injure his neck? It must have been such a shock for you to get that phone call. Don't forget, you don't have to count your blessings on here - feel free to come on and moan, moan, moan! I often do and it's great as I can't see you all muttering 'oh I do wish she'd shut up'. Marvellous

johnworf do you just sell the original White Linen? I'm after the Pure White Linen for my mama. Great that you're nice and busy. I was out shopping with ma-in-law in Guildford yesterday and people were laden down with bags. Only a couple of places had sales on too.

jeanjeanie I love the pictures. Were you standing behind Verity propping her up? Is your GOSH appt tomorrow? Good luck, let me know how it goes.

johnworf · 08/12/2008 16:36

what size white linen are you looking for? Yes, we can get it. I'll give you a price on the size you're after.

johnworf · 08/12/2008 16:45

ladymac just had a look at our supplier and yes, they have it. But only a few in stock.

Pure white linen EDP 30ml (sorry only size left) is £21.99 + P&P £2.75.

White Linen EDP 60ml is £31.99 again only a few and White Linen EDP 30ml is £23.50 again add P&P.

johnworf · 08/12/2008 16:49

sorry, latter should read white linen edp 30ml £21.00!

ladymac · 08/12/2008 17:22

Thanks for checking jw. Was after a 50ml of the Pure White Linen, or there is a gift set with the 30ml plus a small body lotion thrown in if you could get either of those. She is specific about wanting the Pure one rather than the original one.

Am kicking myself as after mentioning jj's GOSH appt with Iris I checked to see what time our appt was for next week - and it was last thursday Can't believe that I've been so stupid. Phoned up and apologised profusely as I would never miss an appt without phoning to cancel. I suppose my excuse is that there has been rather a lot going on lately plus I am suffering from pregnancy brain. Mind you, think our lovely Professor Pierro was rather busy with the Siamese twins last week so perhaps I can be excused

ladymac · 08/12/2008 17:37

Am picking up DH from work shortly so we can hit Tesco. Hate it there but our local Sainsbury where I do our day to day shopping on foot is not that big and is a High St store so no car park. And I need washing powder and tins etc so Tesco it is. Missing DD1 for the simple fact that she used to look after the gingers when we did a big shop once a fortnight or so. But she has moved out so tonight they have to come with us.

Elizabeth has been a bit moany and pink of cheek lately. Today I spotted that she's cut at least one back molar No wonder she's been a bit off colour. I thought they didn't get those till they were about 2 and a half. She's been incredibly early with all of her teeth. My others were really late to get them and really late to lose them too. DD1 couldn't have a brace till she was 15 as she still had baby teeth before that!

johnworf · 08/12/2008 18:29

Ok np. I can see 2 gift sets; one pure linen and one white linen (50ml edp/100ml body lotion). Off top of my head they're £32.00 If you're interested let me know.

I'm off to Sainsbogs myself in a bit. They have a nice tree topper in that is a bit like a silver sputnik. Ok. It sounds awful but it looks nice Under pressure to get the tree up tomorrow by DSS. It's far too early for me but hey, it's xmas and we're doing it for the kids.....I think!

jeanjeannie · 08/12/2008 21:01

Evening all. Bonkers afternoon - seem to have loads of stuff to do and no time to do it in!

Yep ladymac it's GOSH tomorrow. Appointment is a 10am - so that's a 7.30 start for us. It's amazing, just 26 miles and it can take so long Whoops at you forgetting your appointment!! We're going to spend rest of day having something to eat and finding a Santa Claus somewhere - we may hunt him dog like a dog in the Selfridges vicinity!

Awww - poor Elizabeth - I'm still waiting for Iris's back ones to pop although she's chewing everything in sight. How are the signing and hearing aids all coming along?

Have been trying to upload photos to make a calendar of the girls for family - it's taken ages and now I've lost the will to create one!

jw I like the sound of the silver sputnick I used to have a glass walrus on top of my tree. He even made it onto Danny Baker's show on BBC London....to the top of his radio tree! Ah - if only I'd not trod on him - he was a walrus amongst Walrus's...

Tee2072 · 08/12/2008 21:03

JJ I think the plural of walrus is walrii. But I could be wrong.

jeanjeannie · 08/12/2008 21:16

WHAHAHAHAHAH tee Now, I've spelt it wrong for starters and you know - I sadly struggled with Walruses Vs Walrii....and, according to the dictionaries I've consulted - the pendants use Walruses. However there are moves afoot to make Walrii the correct usage - there is even an online petition

Gosh - we're having a riveting Monday Eve in eh CAKE! We need CAKE!!

Tee2072 · 08/12/2008 21:17

Oh, yes, please, cake!!! Lots and lots of cake. Chocolate cake with chocolate frosting, please!

jeanjeannie · 08/12/2008 21:38

tee the collective noun for Waruses is a pod. There, now you can sleep easy in the knowledge that has now been added to your list of pressing things you need to know !

More frosting? Go on - treat yerself!

Tee2072 · 08/12/2008 21:40

Hm, interesting, JJ. Never knew that!

johnworf · 08/12/2008 21:52

lolololol.....how educated we are tonight!

Yes jj good luck tomorrow with your GOSH visit. Hate hospital appointments but they are a necessary evil. Hope Iris takes it in her stride and that no treatment is needed. Can't bear the thought of LO's needing anything surgical doing.....seen enough of that already and I'm sure you're keeping your fingers crossed as well JJ. I'll be keeping mine crossed too

I've eaten a whole toblerone today (fruit and nut) A LARGE one. To myself .....goes off to hang her head in shame........

Well I'm mightily fed up. Sainsbogs had no sputniks in so I'm to go to another tomorrow. And no scandinavian wreaths either. AND the car park was full of undesireables! Then I rememebered as I was walking back to the car that this particular Sainsbogs had a car jacking incident a couple of months back so I shan't be going back there again in a hurry.

Spooks is on telly and it's very disturbing tonight. I've a cushion ready to hide behind

hedgepig the continental 3 fer 2's are back in stock dear. Go on, treat yourself

Tee2072 · 09/12/2008 06:21

Good morning all!

JW I thought Spooks was okay last night. Not great, but I don't think its been great since about the 2nd series. As soon as Tom left, I think it went downhill a bit. My DH loves it!

JJ Good luck today at GOSH! Hope Iris doesn't need any surgery or other treatment.

Only half day at work today, and then off to the Diabetes Clinic for a blood letting and numbers review. So.Much.Fun. At least I get out of work early and don't go back!

lilibet · 09/12/2008 10:33

Hello

Tee Fully agree with you about Spooks, just not the same after Tom left. How are you coping being back at work?

JW I have got to go to my local Sainsbugs and look for a sputnik - we have a very wobbly angel.

JJ - thnaks for that vital bit of info, it's down not for my next quiz night
Good luck for GOSH.

It's our Secret Santa day at work today. We have a £5 limit, I shall report back with what I get.

Ds2 (12) announced at weekend that he has a girlfriend. She asked him out last week and he said yes. Yesterday he came home with a £20 note that she had put in his card as a Christmas present . A few questions occur to me here.

What on earth are her parents doing giving her £20 to give to a random boy?
If it's her money, do they knwo what she is doing with it?
And when did money in a card over a fortnight before Christmas become an acceptable present for boyfriends/girlfriends?

Surely a big bar of Dairy Milk on the last day of term is a bit more appropriate?

And what on earth do we do back?
