sparkle - aspartame and saccharin are artificial sweeteners - found in a gazillion things.

'I am SOOOOOO craving a large glass of really chilled white wine though.'

Same here, sweet!

I know it will probably give me terrible heartburn, but I just want to sip it whilst sitting outside and eating fried prawns.

accessorizequeen · 04/06/2008 20:23

I did go for a few months without alcohol There's no reason to suggest that it does any harm, it makes me feel fab once a week after a stressful day with the dc's. And thank goodness I don't have to give up diet coke either as it's the only thing keeping me awake esp at work!

MsSparkle · 04/06/2008 20:24

I just know if i had a large glass of wine now, i would be quite merry. This makes me think, if it has that effect on me then, call me stupid but, what on earth is that doing to my unborn child?

You're prob going to think even worse of me as I'm pg this time with twins so I'm making both of them merry. We each make our own decisions about things like this I think as always.

lou222 · 04/06/2008 20:29

so would you put a glass of wine in a bottle and feed your day old baby with it? My midwife says everything i eat and drink goes straight to the baby . Why risk it?

AggiePanther · 04/06/2008 20:31

I posted this link on another thread about the same thing... it's an interesting read

MsSparkle · 04/06/2008 20:32

I'm not thinking anything of anyone. I just don't agree with drinking or smoking during pregnacy.

I would worry if i was merry or even tipsy when pregnant because i would think if i'm merry, the baby is merry as i am it's life support.

Would you give, say, a curry to the baby? no - but you'd eat one when pregnant (unless you have hearturn obv ) - not everything passes 'as is' straight to the baby.

MsSparkle · 04/06/2008 20:35

If everything you eat and drink goes straight to the baby then surely drinking alcohol would go straight to the baby? (Not being smart, a genuine question)

lou222 · 04/06/2008 20:36

well the doctor confirmed that what i eat and drink goes to the baby as i would not take antibiotics for that reason but if your medical knowledge is greater then theirs !!?
what right minded mother would put their baby at risk ??.....
the ones who drink and smoke !

MsSparkle · 04/06/2008 20:37

I used to make Korma for my baby (when she was about 8 months old.) There is nothing in curry that would be harmful to a child surely? As long as you left out the chilli obviously?

People in Eastern countrys wouldn't think anything of it.

AggiePanther · 04/06/2008 20:40

My point about curry was to illustrate that not everything passes straight through - we have organs that breakdown and filter much of what we eat and drink before it goes into our blood

expatinscotland · 04/06/2008 20:41

I drink wine whilst breastfeeding, lou.

MsSparkle · 04/06/2008 20:43

Don't they advise not to drink whilst breastfeeding because it does something to the milk or goes to the baby?

what starlight said

expatinscotland · 04/06/2008 20:50

No, they don't advise you not to drink whilst breastfeeding, MrsSparkle.

MsSparkle · 04/06/2008 20:50

Tbh, i don't really give a crap about govenment guidelines as the govenment talk out their ass most of time.

I decided myself that i don't think drinking is right during pregnacy due to my own body. I know that if i drank a glass of wine i would be tipsy/merry. So if there is the smallest chance that i could be harming my unborn child in some way, i am not willing to take that chance... no matter how slim the chances.

expatinscotland · 04/06/2008 20:51

Antibiotics can be life-saving in pregnancy.

Some people even have to have life-saving surgery during pregnancy.

Starlight is right, everything doesn't go 'straight' to the baby.

Your body and the placenta filter the blood.

lou222, antibiotics saved my babies life (and mine) during pregnancy. I had a nice big dose of intravenous anitbiotics, with no harm to my baby. He's now 9 and has only had antibiotics once since birth.

IMO, you should only have anitbiotics if you really need them, pregnant or not.
