Confusing Potty Shot

Hi all. I’m currently 18+5 and had a gender scan at exactly 15 weeks. I was told that the baby is a girl, and without second thought spent a fortune preparing for a girl.

I’m now so worried that it’s actually a boy? Can someone please bring me back to reality. I suffer with ridiculous anxiety and have spent the last 3 hours staring at this potty shot.

I have my 20 week scan on Monday, but I just need some reassurance or opinions for now!

Yep definitely you again 😂. Your entertaining. Maybe think about therapy for some anxiety and anger issues 😸

Definitely wasn’t me, considering I made my account 4 hours ago!

@Kriszoee must be your potty mouthed twin everyone has one 🤔. Enjoy your time on Mumsnet no fawning here.

SallyWD · 12/03/2025 14:17

Regarding the gender of your baby, what you need to remember is that the sonographer saw your baby for some time from many different angles. They may not have captured a good shot of the genitals but they would have been pretty sure she's a girl from what they saw as they were examining her.

That’s a really true point!

Sorry your thread has been so derailed OP!

I do think that is a girl as although the scan photo is strange (maybe cord??), I don't see any boy parts. Hopefully they will be able to reassure you on Monday!

Don’t worry about it - such a strange set of people changing the subject and derailing the post for no reason at all!

thank you for your input. I was wondering if maybe it was part of the thigh, or captured in motion making it look distorted. No idea!😂

fingers crossed!

What does “preparing for a girl” mean?

I get you might want to buy those teepee things for baby boys, but what do baby girls need that baby boys don’t?

You know what preparing for a girl means. Nobody has said that a girl needs anything different from a boy.

Colours and clothes, specifically. You’re not going to put a boy in dresses, hair bows and personalised items with the name “ Hannah “ all over them.

Congratulations on your baby, OP. I hope your pregnancy goes well.

@TallulahBetty not sure what the attitude is all about? These are commonly known as “ Potty Shots “.

its not a “ sex scan “ or a “ sex reveal “.
It’s a “ gender scan “ and “ gender reveal “ - therefore I will continue to call it GENDER.

Clearly 95% accuracy isn't the same as 100%, does that mean I’m not allowed to post to a public forum ( the same as hundreds of others do ), to ask for a second opinion because “ no scan is 100% “?

Sorry that you’ve woken up on the wrong side of the bed today.

Along with you. Your response doesn’t bathe you in calm and polite behaviour either.

Rainingalldayonmyhead · 12/03/2025 14:49

TallulahBetty · 12/03/2025 12:30

Nope, this is sex not gender. They are called 'gender scans' in error. 10000% sex. I can only assume that 'potty shot' is another hideous Americanism.

Edited

Nope I can assure you as I’m from that side of the pond this isn’t a phrase I have ever heard.

hellhavenofury · 12/03/2025 14:51

Bloody hell, responses to this is bloody crazy!! Yes, the world has gone mad but that has nothing to do with OPs post! She will give birth to a boy or girl, whatever way you want to say it!

I think it definitely looks like a girl to me.

Good luck OP & ignore the idiotic posters, they clearly have too much time on their hands!

OP is simply reacting to the hostility being thrown at her for daring to use the word "gender".

Rainingalldayonmyhead · 12/03/2025 14:53

Kriszoee · 12/03/2025 12:54

No - I’ll tell you what is absolutely ridiculous.

The sheer amount of people that have through it was even slightly acceptable to target my post and comment the same crap over and over again.

I have far more to worry about than some wording on an online forum.

Seriously OP the only one getting upset, using hyperbole and lashing out is you. Your immediate defensive reaction to every post you don’t like is disproportionate to say the least. Take a step back.

Nope, quite a few posters have commented on how awful others are being to OP. Read their posts too.

Don't feed the trolls. I really don't understand how some people wake up every day and are just unnecessarily negative or start nit picking on terminology.... so silly.

Anyway! I would say girl just purely because I cannot see any boy parts!

Ah. So it was a gender scan after all.

I did find out the sex with DD, because I carry a gene that is harmful to baby boys and I needed to prepare for the worst.

DD arrived healthy and was put into all of the stuff my best friend handed down that her DS was done with.

At 14 there’s no sign of a penis, so I conclude baby girls do just fine without hairbows and being dressed in blue and green. She hates glitter though. Maybe she wasn’t exposed to enough of it early enough.

Gender stereotypes are harmful to both sexes (there is loads of evidence) and I really wish babies weren’t subjected to them before they’re even half way cooked. 🙁

“ ah so it was a gender scan after all “. What is this supposed to mean? I have stated several times that it was a gender scan. To find out whether my baby is a boy or a girl, and for that EXACT reason.

“ Gender stereotypes are harmful to both sexes (there is loads of evidence) and I really wish babies weren’t subjected to them before they’re even half way cooked. 🙁 “

im not going to respond to this, as nobody is “ stereotyping “ anything. Whether people on mumsnet like it or not, my baby will be born either a male or female. May be an unpopular opinion, but i absolutely would not dress a little boy in bows and dresses nor name him
Hannah.

Fortunately we are lucky enough to be in a position to buy exactly what we want for our first and probably only baby, and shouldn’t be restricted in doing so because of “ gender stereotypes “.

NewmummyJ · 12/03/2025 15:02

Just to reassure you, if the baby does turn out to be a boy, they can wear pink and flowers without any long term consequences to their health or well being.
