@Piluka I do agree that you should flag the absence of consultations, if you should have had them and didn't. You probably won't risk anyone's job but something about the process is clearly not working, and it's important that that's flagged just in case it means that issues could be missed for others.

Again, this shows the difference between trusts. I've had growth scans but no consultation follow ups until the last. In fact, I'm not entirely sure who's been looking at the others!!! However it looks as though this is the way my hospital does it - no follow ups with consultants unless issues are picked up, or it's your last one.

But glad you've had your meeting now and that everything is looking OK. Big hugs xxx

@SBelfast congratulations!! Just to say that my first was in NICU because he came very early and I found it really hard when I was separated from him and my DS at the beginning. Up to you of course but I wouldn’t hold off asking to go and see them and having someone accompany / wheel you down because of worrying about them - it is important you get to be with them.

Update from me. Having seemed v much like I was in proper labour yesterday and being told my husband should stay etc, the contractions eased up over night. They checked and I’m still 3cm dilated, baby seemed happy on CTG and whilst it was still showing contractions they weren’t really even painful for me anymore.

I was therefore allowed to come home this afternoon and now back to the waiting game - could be hours, days or weeks apparently! We’ve got a rota of grandparents around until weekend at least just in case things kicked off again and then will need to reevaluate!

Hope everyone else who was having an exciting day is going well and hope everyone else who is suffering gets a better night’s sleep!

jaybeez · 22/01/2025 22:10

Congratulations on your little boy @SBelfast and hope you're back with him soon ❤️

QuantumPanic · 22/01/2025 22:14

Congratulations @SBelfast !! Hoping your son is better soon and that you're reunited asap. 🧡 It sounds like a complete whirlwind - hopefully you'll somehow get some time to rest/process.

elb1504 · 22/01/2025 22:31

Congratulations @SBelfast Hopefully you're managing some rest and you get to see your little boy soon 💙

UncharteredWaters · 22/01/2025 23:56

@SBelfast Congratulations!
Honestly they won’t mind taking you upstairs - it’s also easier overnight.
Hope you’ve managed to have a snuggle xx

SBelfast · 23/01/2025 01:01

Thanks everyone for your messages! Most appreciated ❤
@sohomum18 they had me move from bed to chair about 10 hours after delivery. While I was in bed was able to start moving my legs about. I got to go up to special care unit in neonatal to spend time with Ruairi at 10 then when I came back after midnight got catheder taken out which was a relief as made me very squeamish and was anxious about having it out. Wasn't sore just an odd sensation.

@EastLondonCoffeeFiend @sohomum18
Physically I'm feeling pretty OK but I've not been moving a huge amount. Just on paracetamol atm. They've got a type of ibruphen pain relief if needed and a derivative of morphine if required. All safe for breastfeeding or colustrum harvesting which is all I can do for now as Ruairi can't breastfeed until breathing improves. I'm surprised how little pain I'm there in so far hope it stays that way! Plan to make an effort to cautiously be more mobile tomorrow, wrecked now although head buzzing so can't sleep lol.
Friend who had hers nearly 6 weeks ago said she hardly had any discomfort after. My sister in law had a bad time of it though (three sections) but she got good Painkillers. Hers were emergencies though and I'd imagine could be a harder recovery after labouring away etc!

Happy to answer any questions on any of it. :) xo

Congratulations @SBelfast

Hoping you a speedy recovery and hope little man can come out of Nicu soon 😍

Hhdxx · 23/01/2025 06:44

@SBelfast congratulations 🎉 I'm glad you're recovering well. Sending lots of love to little man, I know it can be quite common for C-section babies to need help with breathing. I've been told by my obstetrician 1/5 will need to go to neonatal just to help them with their breathing to start with. He will be off it very soon I'm sure 💕💕💕 xxx

SBelfast · 23/01/2025 07:17

Thanks both, I didn't sleep most of night so was up at 4am and he's making progress fingers crossed it continues!

Also the pain kicked in but that's not surprising. Did a bit of walking to him and back and that flared it up plus my dressing is a mess and that's irritating it I think loose at one side. So just munching pain killers 😂

UrbanSquirrel · 23/01/2025 08:48

@SBelfast So glad to hear you got to spend some time with him overnight! Ruairi is such a lovely name too (a Scottish friend of mine has one, with a couple of extra consonants thrown in). Hope you get a bit more comfort and mobility back today and they sort that dressing out! Sounds like both you and the little one are doing a grand job 🤗 xxx

Congratulations @SBelfast I hope you and baby are doing well 🤗

Question for anyone who may be able to relate - I'm 36 weeks and since Tuesday my left breast has been so sore to touch and now feels quite 'hard' closer to the nipple, is this normal? Ive not been leaking any colostrum yet so wondered if it was the start of that? Im seeing my midwife Monday so will mention it then anyway.

Hopefully2ndtimemummy · 23/01/2025 10:09

SBelfast · 22/01/2025 00:41

@Padronpeppersplease I've felt low for sure, and I've noticed such a massive correlation between shite sleep and anxiety and low mood. I'd say it's very common to feel this way hope that helps. Sorry your midwife is useless, if you don't want to talk to her about it maybe you could ask if any resources on it or referrals? In my trust we have a midwife listening service for mental health and it's great.

@Cheeseandcrackers123 that's mad to happen while there! Hope your getting some rest tonight and things go well 😊

I'm in for my section in the morning, hence my late post as am bricking it 😂
I'll pop an update on if I can.

Hope your doing well @OnePinkSloth !

Ah best of luck, hope everything goes great x

Hello, it's been a stressful day for us. Baby was delivered at 11.45 beautiful boy, but he's had some breathing issues, went into incubator, then got started on IV antibiotics and now is being looked after in neonatal and having air flow, drip etc for blood sugar which is good. My husbands with him, I'm on a different floor till I can move.
The staff are lovely they said if it gets too much they'll get me up there but I don't want to cause a hassle as I've have to have one of them assigned to take me up and stay.
Think this is combination of fact he's early 37 & 3 and PPROM condition (hence antibiotics).

C-section, I was extremely nervous going in, so asked for sedation and got drugs to help me relax. Asked for it to be topped up twice as was so nervous first two doses didn't really do much but in end I was fairly chilled. Would definitely recommend that if your nervous made a big difference for me and helped me move from terrified mess to enjoying the experience and skin to skin. In hindsight hardest bit of procedure was cannula in hand and spinal block. I don't think I got a local for hand cannula would recommend 100% asking for one but if not it's sore but over in 10 seconds.

Xo

Ah sounds like a tough day but well done you for getting through it and sounds like you’re both being well looked after which is the main thing. Hope you’re feeling a bit better physically today and that your little man is making good progress xx

Hhdxx · 23/01/2025 12:09

I've had a growth scan today and everything looks fine. Baby measuring 2.6kg. I'll be 35 weeks on Saturday. Also got reassured about eating a bit of undercooked salmon nearly 3 weeks ago. I'm constantly overthinking it but there aren't any outbreaks of listeria with salmon at the moment so I really need to stop thinking about it. X

retrievermum · 23/01/2025 13:09

@SBelfast congratulations lovely! I hope your recovery is going okay - keep on top of the painkillers even if you feel like you don’t need them! Fingers crossed your lovely little boy will be fighting fit and home with you soon!

@Pepsix it sounds normal, it’s probably your ducts swelling! My nipples have been agony for the last couple of weeks (despite feeling better for months!) but keep an eye!

UrbanSquirrel · 23/01/2025 13:17

@Hhdxx Very pleased they were able to offer extra reassurance about the salmon. And very pleased to hear that little L is so robust and healthy. Sounds like excellent news all round! 🤗 xxx

@Mamma3456 Ah, great, so (assuming we don't get bumped) we'll have a little dragon too then! My MIL was telling me about the various characteristics and I have to admit dragons sounded very impressive. Too bad you'll miss out on the NY fun, but maybe you can get your family to do you a delayed festive meal when you get home?

Very best of luck for Tuesday! I think that's three of us at least lined up for the 28th - you, me and @elb1504 I think? xxx

I think it's a wood dragon specifically, so there's probably a toy to be bought for the occasion. 😁

@SBelfast congratulations! We chose a similar name for my first born (different spelling to yours) and a gaelic one for my second too. 🥰

OnePinkSloth · 24/01/2025 18:42

Hello all, sorry not to have updated it's been a big week for us over here🥹
Baby Vera Clemency is here and she is so loved💗
Was induced on 1:45am Monday morning and baby was finally here at 7:32pm on Wednesday night after a long labour and forceps in theatre.
We've been trying to recover since🥴
Potentially will get discharged tonight depending on blood results.

retrievermum · 24/01/2025 19:23

@OnePinkSloth awwww congratulations! Sorry to hear it was so drawn out but I hope you’re recovering okay! Look after yourself and enjoy your little newborn bubble 💕

elb1504 · 24/01/2025 19:38

Redapple21 · 24/01/2025 20:25
