Hi, sorry I’ve been quiet, I’ve been so busy with work. Lovely to catch up with this thread.

I am 19 weeks tomorrow, I have an anterior placenta and still haven’t felt much. I’m hoping I will start to feel movements soon.

I didn’t have a Moses basket with my first, but did with my second and it was a godsend as needed that safe space away from my other child!

Hope everyone is ok.

Redapple21 · 28/09/2024 06:43

I haven't bought anything new yet as we have lots of stuff from DS. For us, we did use the Moses basket quite a lot for the first 3 months until he outgrew it. We would even place it into the next to me to make him more snug and this helped him sleep better, as even the next to me seemed so roomy when he was a newborn. The Velcro swaddles were also a life saver for helping him feel nice and snug at bed time. Will have to dig everything out and sort through it. I plan to reuse as much as possible but I am considering a baby Bjorn bouncer from marketplace. We had a swingy chair last time which was ok but I'm drawn towards the Bjorn bouncer this time. I feel like we will need somewhere safe to easily secure the baby with a 2 year old running around. Won't be practical to always have hold of the baby! But as people have said you can always buy these things once the baby is born and you can just see then what might come in handy.

jaybeez · 28/09/2024 07:55

I've not bought anything yet - I went a bit mad with my first and bought EVERYTHING so there's not really anything we need this time. I'd like to treat myself to a new changing bag because the old one's a bit worn, and a good carrier as I think that will be more important this time having a toddler too.

One thing I did last time was set aside some money for things once the baby arrived - originally I was planning to breastfeed but that didn't work out for us after my delivery, so I was glad I had money aside to buy all the bottle feeding bits.

retrievermum · 28/09/2024 08:26

I’ve seen a few of you talking about the baby bjorn bouncer! We got one for DD off marketplace and it was worth what we paid (about £45 I think) but I’d not recommend much more, ie, not worth what it costs new! I was at a play cafe the other day and they had the kinderkraft dupe of it which looked almost exactly the same, and cost about a quarter of the price so might be worth looking at if not marketplace deals!

Another thing we did to spread the cost a bit was buy a pack of nappies and a pack of wipes every time we did a food shop from about 20 weeks. Got different sizes and brands which meant when baby was born we could test a load out and work out what worked for her!

MyHappyNewt · 28/09/2024 13:28

We had the baby bjorn bouncer chair with DS and really liked it, but agree that it’s not really worth the price for what it is! The fabric seat was very easy to take off and wash though, which was a lifesaver for our cmpa baby!

Thanks for the tip on the bouncer, it does look very similar!

Thanks for all of you who replied about the MAT1 B1 I received a reply from the first midwife I meet (the only one I had a contact info) and she told me that I'd be given it by my next appointment when I'd be 25 weeks pregnant. I'm not sure if this is not too close to the due date for my employer to submit it?

The rest of you are going to get it by then?

TIA

Btw, has any of you started buying stuff (push chair, cribs and so on?) or do you think is to early? I have the feeling that if i start now would be like decorating for Christmas before Summer. Hahahaha However, I don't want to stress myself to get everything at the last minute either.

I bought a double pram, but I decided to sell it on and replace it with a new one (no chance I'd find a second hand E-Gazelle as they've only been out a few months)
Absolutely love it

Found out it's a boy, so now I'm packing up all my beautiful barely worn girl clothes for Facebook marketplace and vinted.
Now buying boy clothes, bought some trainers and plain babygrows but that's about it.
I still have my bouncer, and my playmat but gonna make my own covers for it as this one is a Disney Minnie Mouse one in bright pink 😂😂

Feel completely shocked it's a boy, but deep down I knew all along it was because I've had no issues with my pregnancy, I've gained 6lb in total in 22 weeks, I'm buzzing I'm not bloated this time so thank you little man!

My baby chair is a munchkin electric thing. Was amazing for baby 1,
If anyone wants to future proof a Moses basket and has the space I highly recommend a tutti bambini cozee go
I wish I'd bought it before, it's a travel cot that takes like 10 seconds to set up, it has a bassinet compartment for small babies, then when the baby is bigger you take that out and the cozee go turns into a playpen/travel cot
I have it in my lounge in front of the log burner (to stop her messing with it- it won't be lit this year)

I also recommend the Ikea play mat, it's light blue with sea creatures on, it's super comfy, washes over and over again and it folds up easy enough.

I also recommend using a yoga mat as a changing mat if on worktops while baby is little and not rolling. As they're not slippy, most changing mats are slippy on your kitchen worktop

And a dock a tot, I had a beautiful floral one for my LG but sold it and bought the grande which fits perfectly in the cozee go. So she has a super comfy place to chill out and nap.

I will be buying another dock a tot for baby 2 as it was a godsend for baby 1

I’ll be 19 weeks on Monday, also with an anterior placenta and barely feeling anything. Getting impatient for it now ☹️

I bought some clothes and weirdly… books 🤣 as in books to read to the baby! I’m obsessed.
as for bigger items - family members have given us a bedside crib and a breastfeeding rocking chair. We will probably get other bigger items in a couple of months.
this is my first baby so I’m not entirely sure what we need but I am planning on just using guides I find online unless other mums here feel like giving the rest of us some much needed advice? I would actually love that, for example - what items would you advise AGAINST buying because they don’t get used?

I can't wait to buy books! One of the things I'm most looking forward to 🤗

Thank you so much for all the helpful ideas! We’re having a little girl and no idea where to start with equipment or any that lasts/future proofs!
Congratulatons on baby boy and the lack of bloat!

8weekscrossed · 29/09/2024 06:52

@Toriiaa id be interested in some of your clothes once you’ve sorted them if you would be happy to share your Vinted account? 🙂

8weekscrossed · 29/09/2024 06:58

@MrsB2019x ahh so similar!! How are you feeling? I’ve felt a few ‘kicks’ I think but not many!

Same! I think I've started feeling kicks but only this week and it took ages to start being able to identify them. To me they're sort of like forceful bubbles going suddenly towards the front of my stomach? I feel like I can feel some movements as well where it's like he's pressing something up on my belly.

Really relieved actually as I had to go and be checked by the MAU in my local hospital last Friday after some intense pain in the night (all fine but very scary) so I need all the reassurance I can get! My husband can't feel anything from the outside yet though so waiting for that now

8weekscrossed · 29/09/2024 07:42

@ridl14 gosh glad everything is ok. My previous 2 pregnancies were posterior so this is all new to me! Hopefully we will feel things soon. X

Toriiaa · 29/09/2024 08:00

@8weekscrossed I sure will. Don't know how I'm gonna manage this kinda thing with a 11 month old though 😂 she is so ferrel and takes all of my time up

Redapple21 · 29/09/2024 08:05

@Toriiaa I'm the same, want to sort out all the boys stuff I have but not sure when to do that with a toddler running around !

I have started to feel more movement this week at 21 weeks with anterior placenta. So hopefully ladies waiting you won't be long now! It is lovely and reassuring to feel them.

Has anyone decided on any names yet? I keep scrolling through names and making a list but finding it harder this time around!

8weekscrossed · 29/09/2024 08:09

@Redapple21 i am taking 3 days off next week to sort things out! I need to do it without the 2 boys around 😂

Yes good idea! I should probably do the same! X

Toriiaa · 29/09/2024 08:32

@Redapple21 are you having a girl?

Lidlisthebusiness · 29/09/2024 10:43

@Redapple21 we started our name lists early on, and are still adding to them. We're not finding out what we're having, so we're looking for both. I have a boys name I've loved through all 6 pregnancies, but my husband has always vetoed it!

I don't suppose anyone is looking at having to birth on their own? It occurred to me on Friday that I'll have to do it by myself as my Mum would usually have the children, but my husband will have to stay at home with them this time.

Redapple21 · 29/09/2024 12:01

@Toriiaa yes we are having a girl! So I'm going to sort my some clothes into neutral and boys and offload the boys stuff. I have a few friends to pass things to but will also do some bundles for Vinted if I can.

@Lidlisthebusiness how are you feeling about doing it by yourself? Hopefully you can convince your husband this time on the name you love!

I'm enjoying making a list of names but nothing jumping out at me just yet. I had my sons name so early on but this time I don't have an obvious girls name that I definitely love. I think il have to let one grow on me.

Lidlisthebusiness · 29/09/2024 14:46

@Redapple21 I'm not sure how I feel really! We had considered it happening with our last one because I had her during lockdown, but we managed to arrange things so my Mum could come to us and be with the others.

I think overall, it would be such a shame for him to miss it but I know I can do it on my own. If things were different and I wasn't classed as high risk, I'd have a home birth in a heartbeat. Are video call births a thing?!

Moyaingoya · 29/09/2024 17:36

Hello, just come on here to see if anyone can relate! I’ll be 20 weeks tomorrow (scan on Thurs) and over the last couple of days I’ve noticed a real feeling of ‘heaviness’ like when I roll from one side to the other in bed or even (today mainly) when I get up off the sofa. I don’t have a noticeable bump though so I’m wondering if this is normal/what other people are feeling physically if at the same stage? I think I can feel movements but I’m not sure if that’s what it is. Just feeling very nervous 😬

retrievermum · 29/09/2024 17:50

@Moyaingoya yes definitely! I have got a visible bump but I don’t think it makes much of a difference, baby is still in there and is probably just lying really low down at the minute. If you think it’s movement at this stage, it probably is! It feels different for different women (I never felt “butterflies”!) and it even feels different for me this time compared to my last pregnancy (DD is only 16 months so it wasn’t that long ago!). Hope you’re okay but I’d not be worrying! :)

MyHappyNewt · 29/09/2024 19:03

@Moyaingoya yes I get that (am 21 weeks) and also had it with my son! Completely normal even if you don’t have a noticeable bump yet. It probably is movement - the first signs for me felt like a mix of gas/bubbles and almost a plucking/flicking sensation…never butterflies for me!
