@AnonymousXXIX I followed this guide and it said from 35 weeks but I don't imagine starting earlier would do any harm

myexpertmidwife.com/blogs/my-expert-midwife/why-you-should-do-perineal-massage-and-how-to-do-it

MixedCouple2 · 27/05/2024 22:37

@AnonymousXXIX Care about little ones states the best time I totally forgot it might have been 34weeks? I got hubby to do it for me. And we used some warm olive oil and lots of breathing. It was uncomfortable but not painful. Your only meant to do it for 4/5mins so tolerable. Also during labour you can ask your Birthing partner to use a warm flannel and press against the area frequently - if that is something your comfortable with.

One of my Mum friends had an episiotomy with her first and it healed terribly took 8/9 months. But her 2nd baby she had 0 tears and didn't prepare at all. So I think generally your less likely to tear badly or need an Episiotomy.

hopingfor23 · 28/05/2024 02:21

Been admitted tonight as waters are leaking 😢😢😢 didn't even come in for that I came in due to low sugars as I have GD. Luckily mentioned that I've had a chest infection and I keep peeing when I cough and the doctor decided to check. Anyone had experience of this? Not sure what is going to happen and feeling very scared 😢😢😢😢😢 Currently 32+3 x

Morningcoffeeaddict · 28/05/2024 09:32

@hopingfor23 - no experience but sending lots of love and hope you’re both doing ok. You’re in the right place and they’ll make sure you’re both taken care of!

@Oatmilktea - hope you’re settled ok in hospital too and managed to sleep alright last night

wannabe123 · 28/05/2024 09:38

@hopingfor23 I hope you're being well looked after x

Sophie3003 · 28/05/2024 09:44

@hopingfor23 wishing you all the best, you are in the best place. Hope they have managed to update you as scary not knowing what will happen.

AnonymousXXIX · 28/05/2024 10:19

Thanks @justanotherlaura @MixedCouple2

Oh my gosh @hopingfor23 I hope you're doing okay!

appleandcheese · 28/05/2024 10:53

Hi Everyone! Hope you're all doing ok.
I posted way back in the early days, and then got very distracted with DD and going back to work after first mat leave ended.

Struggling a lot more with hip pain, bump size and general tiredness this pregnancy. My DD is 13 months, and has become extremely clingy the last couple of weeks, and waking during the night again with teething pain.

I am 32 weeks today. 31 week midwife appointment was measuring 4 weeks ahead, so was sent for a scan and GD test, but all seems to be ok - I'm just huge and really feeling it.

I am absolutely rubbish at keeping up with this thread - has anyone moved to a WhatsApp group yet? The April 2023 group with my daughter did, and was much easier to keep track of.. and nice to message in early hours once babies were here. 😊

Jess725 · 28/05/2024 11:19

@MixedCouple2 oh gosh! Midwife did seem quite concerned as my itching has been stopping me from sleeping 🙈
my bloods were borderline for ICP but I’ll keep mentioning it, thank you 😊😊

@hopingfor23 sending good vibes to you ❤️

yes to hiccups!! Multiple times a day for about 30 mins a time 😂

Oatmilktea · 28/05/2024 12:07

@hopingfor23 so sorry to hear you’ve been admitted, it’s scary and it’s horrible being away from home! How are things today? Is there any update from the doctor?

thank you @Morningcoffeeaddict, all settled in. I’m absolutely starving 24/7 and have made my way through so many snacks already! Had a rubbish sleep as my room is right next to a busy road. Despite having the windows closed, ear plugs in and white noise on I could still hear the traffic. Hoping I get used to it as this is my last chance to get in lots of sleep before baby comes 😂

OP posts:
Morningcoffeeaddict · 28/05/2024 12:16

@Oatmilktea - oh that doesn’t sound good about the road noise or running low on snacks already. Hopefully you’ll get used to the noise and manage to get some sleep soon. You’ll have to make sure any visitors come armed with extra snacks!!

missmoosh · 28/05/2024 14:28

@hopingfor23 oh I’m sorry to hear that! Did you have any signs or thoughts it could be leaking? I am currently sat here trying to decide if I just have excessive discharge, leaking urine or leaking amniotic fluid. I suspect it’s discharge but having a spiral as DH has car and is over an hour way 😅

@Oatmilktea glad you are getting settled, hopefully you adjust to the noise. If not is there another room maybe you could ask for when one opens up?

@appleandcheese welcome back to the thread! Glad to hear your GD test was good! Maybe you will pop early if you’re messaging that far ahead? We don’t have a WhatsApp group yet, but we do have a Facebook group, are you in that?

wannabe123 · 28/05/2024 14:32

@missmoosh the spiralling thoughts are here too. I ended up ringing triage last night because I couldn't decide if I was having contractions or Braxton Hicks. Funnily, once I'd spoken to them it all stopped 😅

missmoosh · 28/05/2024 14:41

@wannabe123 hahah glad I’m not the only one in spiral city! I don’t know if I’m just being hyperaware of everything or if something is genuinely going on haha. Had such a busy weekend so I’m hoping I haven’t done too much and caused an issue!
Currently laying on sofa and I’m sure I can feel something coming out. Trying to lay still for a bit and will see if I get more when I stand up. Just put fresh pants on, so should be obvious if there is fluid. Just what type of fluid!!

wannabe123 · 28/05/2024 14:44

@missmoosh I had a busy weekend here too. Thankfully my parents are over today so I don't have to entertain my toddler. Hope you're ok!

Amberellaella · 28/05/2024 15:32

@hopingfor23 sending a hug - you got this!

@Oatmilktea hospitals are so noisy it’s ridiculous. Have you tried a podcast or meditation track? Might help you tune it out better than white noise.

Just dropped in to see if anyone else is feeling sort of sore on the inside? Like when Jr kicks or punches it feels like when you poke a bruise, but on the inside iykwim. I didn’t get this with DD, but she was lazy (very much not now 😂) and this one is a party baby so I’m really getting a battering!

Hiccups on the regular here too, just to add to the fun ☺️

Morningcoffeeaddict · 28/05/2024 15:45

@Amberellaella - yes me too with the feeling sort of bruised. Finding movements quite uncomfortable now most of the time (whilst being grateful to be feeling them now of course). He also keeps sticking out an elbow or knee or something and it feels particularly sore if I try to prod it back!

Amberellaella · 28/05/2024 16:08

Thanks @Morningcoffeeaddict, glad it’s not just me! Two more weeks of work after this one and I can’t wait to put my feet up… (and get ready for the baby of course!)

Morningcoffeeaddict · 28/05/2024 16:26

@Amberellaella - pregnancy is never smooth sailing I’m sure!

can’t wait to be done with work now. I’m off this week for half term with DS, although I think that may be more tiring than working! Then 4 weeks to go and I’ll be putting my feet up too (hopefully)

Yes my infection markers were raised overnight but have settled now so just a case of monitoring for a few days then hopefully be sent home on bed rest and lots of monitoring. Having steroid injections to strengthen his lungs just in case 🙏🙏 How are you getting on now?

@missmoosh I literally thought I was peeing while coughing as I had a chest infection that's it! I didnt come to triage for that I can for low blood sugars with my GD and I happened to mention my terrible pelvic floor atm so they ran a test and I'm so glad they did! Any concerns just get checked it was a quick swab and a 5 min wait for results to tell me waters had gone xxx

missmoosh · 28/05/2024 17:47

@hopingfor23 ahh lucky you said something! I hope you are allowed home soon!
everything seems to have settled now, so think it may have just been some excess discharge. I have a midwife appointment in the morning anyway, so will be mentioning it to her then regardless.

Oatmilktea · 28/05/2024 18:51

@hopingfor23 glad to hear things have settled now. So glad you had went to triage and got swabbed, it just shows how important it is to contact triage for any niggle you have! I’m having steroids in the week leading up to my c section for baby’s lungs, which is reassuring

I was more or less on bed rest before I was admitted which was so difficult as there was always something I wanted to do in the house and my partners standard of cleaning isn’t up to mine 😂. Let us know when you get home!

@hopingfor23 oh wow glad they were able to catch it for what it was. Sorry to hear your in so early but hopefully baby can cook a lot longer.
I had a cheat infection and awful cough at 4months lasted 6 weeks and kept peeing qhen I coughed hard but I kept a track and could tell 2hat it was.

My SIL had a slow leak at 28weeks and they managed to keep my DN in until 34 we sis. She was sent home on full bed rest but had too go back in and spent the last 2 weeks she was induced early as there wasn't much amniotic there in the end.
DN is a thriving 5 years old now and you would never tell he was born so early.
Your in good hands and the right place.

@Oatmilktea oh that sucks about the traffic noise. Maybe after a while it will become soothing as you get uses to it.
I cam relate about partners standard of cleaning. But you can forget that for now.

Talking about cleaning. After my previous experince I honestly think the best gifts people can give are services - cleaner - meal prep - doula for postpartum etc. Can you imagine someone organised cleaning once a week for the first month. I heard in the cities you can get meals prepped fresh and depievered to your door (home cooked healthy stuff) that would be amazing. And some Doulas will help postpartum with bits and pieces around the house as well as help you and babg!

Had my scan and baby is 100% a boy very obvious! And he is now head down. But is measuring on the 10th centile like his older brother, smaller the average abdomen and DS is still the ssme now at 2.5. He is like his dad long legs and small abdomen.
So they want a rescan in 2 weeks to make sure all is ok and still going up and not dropping to far below. This is what happened last time. They said I can decline but I don't mind just down the road to go for check ups and they are not being pushy about things.

I am on ICP watch I hope I can avoid it this time. The scratching! Oh the awful scratching!!!!!!

Hope everyone is doing well and in good spirits.

Morningcoffeeaddict · 28/05/2024 22:09

@MixedCouple2 I've been toying with the idea of a postpartum doula. There’s one near us that will grab groceries, do meal prep, fold laundry, hold baby while you have a shower etc- whatever you need at the time and with an older child too and it being DH’s busy season with work it is tempting to hire some help. Main thing making me nervous about it is there’s no indication of cost on her website and it all sounds wonderful but probably very expensive!

Hope the growth scans continue on the line for you. My DS was born on the 9th centile but my babies measure (like their dad) with little legs and a big tummy so the other way round to yours. Good to hear your team aren’t being pushy with you at all. Have a growth scan myself on Thursday for this one but he’s been measuring bigger so far so fingers crossed for that too.
