Our Drew is a mixed bag when it comes to sleeping. We put her down in her pram bassinet during the day to sleep so she’s not always contact napping on us. Took a few goes to get her to go down but she’s perfect in there now and goes down immediately. Crib upstairs in our room is a mixed bag though, we had a really good night last night where she settled quickly after a feed and was down 12-3. Fairly easy to go down after the 3am feed but woke a little bit. Other nights she just won’t settle at all so we never know what we’re going to get!

We seem to be having a real issue with trapped wind so I’ve had to ring the health visitor as I’ve tried all positions and massage with her and she’s still got a hard little tummy. I get some wind out the bottom but no burps!

Just wondering if you got anywhere with the trapped wind? My wee one seems to suffer quite badly with it.

@Sa11yCinnamon It’s still a bit of a journey to be honest and progressed to constipation.

The health visitor suggested warm baths twice a day to help the tummy muscles relax the followed by a little massage using coconut oil. We’ve been doing this for a few days and it has been helping. We were having to feed with the bottle every 3 hours because she’d lost so much weight, yesterday we were told put her to 4-4.5 hours for her feeds as maybe her tummy is overloaded. Lo and behold we’ve have two poos overnight, less spit up and she’s burping better so I think she was just overly full and still accepting the bottle. We put infacol in her bottle too, unsure if it does much but the health visitor said we should keep going and we can try gripe water at 4 weeks if we want but they are much and such the same.

She’s still a bit squirmy with trapped wind but I’ll see how she goes today after clearing her bowels so well during the night.

Sa11yCinnamon · 06/06/2024 13:13

@SarahB88 ah wee soul, glad to hear it sounds like she's improving though! Our midwife is back tomorrow so will speak to her about it then.

@Sa11yCinnamon We were loaned a tummy tub which is basically an upright bath so I’m not sure if that’s something that your trust could give to you but I’m sure a regular bath would work just as well.

She’s a lot more settled today after her clear out last night and she’s burping better during her feeds.

Sa11yCinnamon · 06/06/2024 13:40

@SarahB88 we're not even at baths yet, he's still so little. That's fab she's more settled, it's awful seeing them uncomfortable x

Hi everyone,

Hope everyone’s babies are going well. Is there anyone still waiting?

We had our two week check up today and got discharged from midwife care. Feeling a bit sad about it even though it’s good to know baby is healthy!

Just wondering for those of you with babies that have arrived if you sent any thank you treats to the midwives/doctors etc and if so want you sent?

TheBirdintheCave · 07/06/2024 21:11

@PeppedUp We took a box of chocolates and a card for the midwife who delivered our daughter :)

Yourowgirl · 07/06/2024 21:59

Had second sweep today, 9 days overdue currently. Anyone else?

SarahB88 · 07/06/2024 23:23

@PeppedUp glad you’re signed off but I know what you mean! I really liked my midwife so was sad to not see her again, I love that idea of a little thank you gift. I think I’ll get that sorted.

Has anyone found any newborn size leggings in any shops or online? I’d like some to go under a dress for my little girl but I can only find 0-3 and that just drowns her at the moment.

Edgeofthesea · 08/06/2024 00:03

@PeppedUp@Yourowgirl Still waiting here ✋️ I'm 42 weeks officially now that it's midnight!

My EDD was 25th May, although my original date based on LMP was 31st. It's my 3rd baby and my previous two were born at 41+ weeks, so I wasn't expecting this one to be timely, but I'm very surprised to still be pregnant now 😅

I've been having regular but mild contractions since Wednesday night/Thursday morning, and losing my mucous plug, but things keep easing off. This baby feels massive to me and I don't think he's in a perfect position 😞 So it's probably a good thing that he's taking his time working it all out. But long slow labours are no fun, I'm feeling pretty miserable, and my first two babies each took 4.5 days to show up, so I could still be dealing with this all weekend!

Emmacb82 · 08/06/2024 00:03

We never saw the same midwife more than once unfortunately so no continuity of care which is a shame.

@SarahB88 we got some leggings in Asda for the same reason and they did up to 1 month which fit perfectly

SarahB88 · 08/06/2024 00:25

@Emmacb82 ah I don’t have an Asda near me but will see if I can order online!

Yourowgirl · 08/06/2024 01:23

@Edgeofthesea sorry to hear you're feeling miserable. Sounds like your babies like to be overdue, I hope this one shows up soon. If you are now 42 weeks surely it can't be very long now?! First time Mum here so it's all new to me, although I understand it can take a long time with the first one. Currently awake with cramping but have been getting this on and off for a few weeks now so not reading much into it - just hoping my body is getting ready. I decided I'm happy to start trying other induction methods next week as they recommend. Hopefully baby comes this weekend - keeping my fingers and toes crossed for you for a safe delivery soon too!

Sa11yCinnamon · 08/06/2024 02:51

@Edgeofthesea @Yourowgirl fingers crossed things happen very soon for you!

I really want to send a card and something for all the staff who looked after us at the hospital but there were so many so not sure how best to approach it! Will have a think when I'm less tired... 😅

OP posts:
Yourowgirl · 08/06/2024 02:53

@Sa11yCinnamon Could you take a box of chocolates or basket of fruit to the ward/unit that looked after you? Have done that before when my brother had cancer treatment

Sa11yCinnamon · 08/06/2024 03:10

@Yourowgirl yeah I was thinking food based! It's my first time and they saved his life so nothing really feels adequate just now.

OP posts:
Edgeofthesea · 08/06/2024 08:53

@Yourowgirl Thank you, and I hope things progress soon for you too! It's so hard waiting when you're uncomfortable and crampy and just want to meet baby, but I'm sure it won't be long for either of us. In the grand scheme of things, it's just a few days and won't matter when we look back, but it's tough now!

@Sa11yCinnamon I think it's the thought that counts - a little hamper of treats, maybe including some fruit and some other sweet things, with a lovely handwritten card telling them how much you appreciate them would be more than enough.

PeppedUp · 08/06/2024 15:05

@Sa11yCinnamon I had no idea they had to save your baby. Sorry to hear that but glad that everything is okay now x

I just ordered a biscuit and tea hamper - I thought I’d go with something non perishable that they can keep in the break room. I might also send a photo card to the midwife that delivered him - I have her name in my notes but wish I could also remember the name of the student midwife that was there too.

@Edgeofthesea and @Yourowgirl - best of luck. I had four days of stop-start contractions that in hindsight doesn’t feel like that long but at the time felt like forever so I really empathise. Looking forward to hearing some news imminently 🙂

@SarahB88 I really feel like our newborn bubble has burst a bit. First we were discharged and today my partner has taken my FIL to the airport after he had been staying with us for a month. It’ll be nice to have some time just with us but still feel sad that this period of support has come to an end.

In terms of tights I splashed out on some from Falke. I really liked their colours and they had 0-1 month size, which fits my 4.2kg baby fairly well. Asda is probably better value for money though (I was being particular about colour based on the few outfits I wanted to put them with)

Sa11yCinnamon · 08/06/2024 23:09

@PeppedUp I didn't really know how bad it had been until the next day, when my partner was offered a counselling referral (which he is taking). But baby boy is a wee star now, yesterday (day 5) he was only 2oz off his birth weight so we are delighted.

Will definitely go with a nice foodie gift that can be shared around and a card with some photos, thanks for all the suggestions 😊

@Sa11yCinnamon sorry to hear this! i hope you and your partner are doing ok from what sounds so traumatic, just glad baby is doing well ❤️💪🏽

@SarahB88 have you tried h&m? my baby's tiny 5.15lbs and i've bought a few 0-1 which seem to be an OK fit for a small baby.
i also love how comfortable h&m leggings are x

SarahB88 · 09/06/2024 13:04

@nh93 thank you! My partners mum came round with Asda and next ones and they’re both too big in newborn size so will try an order from H&M! I see they have ones with feet attached so no need for socks. She kicks her socks off!

Yourowgirl · 09/06/2024 14:38

Our baby boy was born this morning at 6.52am, weighing 9lbs. Unfortunately I had a bad tear and had to go for surgery but I still got my skin on skin time and the rest of the birth was thankfully straightforward. Our little one did so well and is in perfect condition.
I hope you and your partner can work through the difficult memories and emotions and come to terms with what happened @Sa11yCinnamon

Yourowgirl · 09/06/2024 15:06

Also thanks for all the well wishes as we navigated the world of overdue and inductions!

SarahB88 · 09/06/2024 15:08

Congratulations @Yourowgirl hope your recovery from the tear goes well!
