Congratulations @Yourowgirl enjoy your newborn snuggles x

PeppedUp · 09/06/2024 20:51

Congratulations @Yourowgirl - how nice to finally have him here and have your wait come to end. Sorry to hear you had to have surgery but glad the rest of it was straightforward - good luck with your recovery x

Yourowgirl · 09/06/2024 14:38

Our baby boy was born this morning at 6.52am, weighing 9lbs. Unfortunately I had a bad tear and had to go for surgery but I still got my skin on skin time and the rest of the birth was thankfully straightforward. Our little one did so well and is in perfect condition.
I hope you and your partner can work through the difficult memories and emotions and come to terms with what happened @Sa11yCinnamon

Congrats! So sorry about your tear. I had a 3b and surgery after having my son in 2020. Let me know if you have any questions re recovery ❤️

Yourowgirl · 10/06/2024 00:45

Thank you so much @TheBirdintheCave , that's very kind of you. I have a 3A and am feeling a little daunted about recovery.

Sa11yCinnamon · 10/06/2024 02:56

Huge congratulations @Yourowgirl, hope you recover quickly and easily xx

@Yourowgirl My biggest tips:

  1. Keep taking your Lactulose! You may have to play around with the dosage to find what works best for you.
  2. Use a jug to pour water over your bits when you wee.
  3. Keep up with your kegels exercises.
  4. Spray witch hazel onto a maternity pad and put it in the freezer for a minute or so.
  5. Eat like a Roman (lying on your side) if it hurts to sit.
  6. Air your bits as much as you can.
  7. Take it one day at a time. Each day will be a little better than the last.

For me one month was the turning point when things really started to improve rapidly and by three months I was completely healed. It did take a while longer for my scar to stop aching on and off.

I've had zero problems as a result of the tear (no leaking or anything) and had my second vaginal birth three weeks ago. Only got a second degree tear this time around and it's already healed 💪🏻

Mum2b2024 · 10/06/2024 15:21

@Sa11yCinnamon sorry to hear that! I hope u are all ok.
@Yourowgirl congratulations. Sorry to hear about the tear! Hope u heal soon!

Yourowgirl · 10/06/2024 16:32

That's really encouraging and helpful @TheBirdintheCave- really appreciate all the tips thank you. Any advice on passing first bowel movement? I think it will be soon...

TheBirdintheCave · 11/06/2024 08:34

@Yourowgirl It won't be as bad as you're imagining. I was really panicking about the first one but with the Lactulose and regular pain killers it was alright.

I think tips would be to not push too hard, if at all, and try and stay relaxed so your muscles don't tense up too much. The Lactulose should take care of the rest 😅

Yourowgirl · 11/06/2024 12:23

Thank you so much again for the advice @TheBirdintheCave I think my body has been subconsciously suppressing the urge out of anticipation😅

LondonGirl1992 · 12/06/2024 13:51

Hey all! How are you and the babies all doing? I am in the deep depths of sleep deprivation now! I got a bug last week and I just seem to feel progressively worse every day because I can’t just sleep it off! It’s such a killer.

TheBirdintheCave · 12/06/2024 16:29

All good here :) We're down to one middle of the night feed so not too shabby on the sleep front. My husband goes back to work on Monday though which sucks. We've had such a nice time off together 😭

Emmacb82 · 12/06/2024 17:20

Totally sleep deprived here. Still refusing to go in crib so co sleeping which is something I never did with my other 2. Got into an nice little routine in the mornings for getting out the door and taking the others to school and one to preschool 3 times a week. She has slotted in very well and I’m making the most of every cuddle as she is my last.

SarahB88 · 12/06/2024 17:45

Bit of a mixed bag for us just now. Found out today that she has a posterior tongue tie so that’s not great at all and we have an appointment with the GP next week for suspected cows milk protein allergy. She’s being so good despite being so uncomfortable poor thing.

Mountainview8 · 12/06/2024 17:54

I've been keeping an eye on this thread as I was due early June with a possibility he could come in May but my little boy was born 5 June. @SarahB88 can I ask what symptoms of the posterior tongue tie and suspected allergy are? I haven't been able to get my boy to latch for breast feeding and he seems quite uncomfortable after feeds.

SarahB88 · 12/06/2024 18:04

@Emmacb82 can I ask how you’ve been safely co sleeping? We ended up doing it last night with her on my chest and me propped up but I didn’t really sleep as I wasn’t sure if it was the right thing to do but it was the only way she settled.

@Mountainview8 she wouldn’t latch for breastfeeding, my nipples were a mess and she lost 9.8% of her body weight at her first weigh in. Now on the formula she’s got painful trapped wind and constipation. We’ve tried comfort formula and it’s not really helping so next step is to try cows milk free. My partner had it so there was a high chance she’d have it too.

Emmacb82 · 12/06/2024 18:39

@SarahB88 To be honest I have been falling asleep cuddling her 😬 I don’t like it and I wake up in fear every time but I honestly don’t know what else to do with her. To safely co sleep you need to remove all pillows etc and they lay next to you but there’s no way I could do that with my husband in bed as he has zero awareness. I don’t have the blankets past my legs and I have my feeding pillow around her so she can’t fall anywhere so it’s the best I can make it but I’m really looking forward to her going in the crib!

SarahB88 · 12/06/2024 19:24

@Emmacb82 sounds similar to our set up last night. I’m going to try to put her down tonight and see how we go but I feel like I’m going to end up with her on me at some point again. Hopefully there’s an end in sight if we get her tongue tie and allergy sorted though!

Our little girl was born 21st May by c section. I've had my hands full so not had chance to keep up with all the posts and post.myself.

@TheBirdintheCave when you say one night feed what does this mean? We are still feeding on demand which is sometimes every hour or two sometimes 3
She's 3 weeks old but we don't seem to have any kind of routine

She usually feeds between 7-8pm and again 10-11pm
Then at night 1-2am and again at 4-5am then the morning feed is between 7-8am

Exhausted!

PeppedUp · 13/06/2024 15:49

Congratulations @Mountainview8 and @FirstTim3Mummy !

In terms of sleep, I normally get a 3 hour stretch to start with and then it gets progressively shorter. He doesn’t sleep great from about 5am, which is a bit tiring. Thankfully he transfers okay to the Moses basket.

@SarahB88 have you seen Cosleepy on Instagram? She has lots of tips on cosleeping including how to do it propped up. I occasionally did it with my first as he was a bit hit and miss with crib transfers, I always felt so nervous about it though. The cuddle curl is the recommended way to do it and you ideally want a firm, non memory foam mattress.

@TheBirdintheCave my partner is also going back on Monday - I’ve been loving having the days together and wish it could be longer!

Sa11yCinnamon · 13/06/2024 18:13

Congratulations to you both @Mountainview8 and @FirstTim3Mummy! ❤️ Is that all the babies here?

We're doing pretty well here, baby will usually sleep in his bedside crib and wake every 2-3 hours for a feed so as long as I spend around 12 hours in bed I can get a semi decent amount of sleep 😅 My partner is away Monday and Tuesday night so that will be a big test as he's been doing lots of soothing and settling while I'm doing all the feeding, and getting up early and letting me sleep in.

SarahB88 · 13/06/2024 22:34

@PeppedUp I’ll have a look but luckily she was in her crib the whole night last night! I’m just letting her fully fall asleep on my right now after a 10pm feed then hoping she goes down again 🤞🤞🤞

My partner goes back to work tomorrow and I’ve had the sudden realisation that I don’t know what to do with the baby when I need to shower and get ready and prepare my food 🙈 so I’m going to my parents for help 😂

TheBirdintheCave · 13/06/2024 22:38

@FirstTim3Mummy Congrats on your little girl :)

My daughter sort of cluster feeds (she's bottle fed so not sure if you can call it that) from 6pm to 9pm. Then she might drink more any time from 10pm-12am. The feed after that will be 3am-4am and then the next one 7am.

Mum2b2024 · 13/06/2024 23:18

Congrats @Mountainview8 and @FirstTim3Mummy :)

My partner went back to work this week too but luckily been WFH and he's in the office tomorrow and my mum coming over. Have been struggling.

@TheBirdintheCave we have been combi feeding so breast from me and formula in bottle but am weaning off breast. I tried and I don't mind it but it is too demanding and too much and I am struggling with this. How many feeds are u roughly doing a day? I know it says a guide on the formula and that's good to know u kinda get that cluster feed with baby as we get that too. It feels like feeding too much but only feeding when he wants it! Feel he is a little piggy! Then I worry over feeding but am only doing when he wants it!

TheBirdintheCave · 13/06/2024 23:40

@Mum2b2024 Over 24 hours we go through 4-5 150ml bottles but she rarely takes all 150 in one go so we might have ten or more feeding sessions per day.

If we go out and she's asleep in the buggy then her feeds are further apart and she takes more in one go but if we're at home she's more likely to feed on and off throughout the day with just one or two longer sleeps.
