@MrsB2005 , as mentioned before, the most important is to choose a place that makes you feel secure and confident.
I would like to consider a home birth but as it's the first time, I'll choose the safety of the hospital. I feel lucky because the midwife led unit is in the same building as the central delivery suite, so if there is any emergency they'll be able to move me there pretty quickly.
@Clarkey34 I've listened to "hypnobirthing" by Siobhan Miller and "give birth like a feminist" by milli hill (I've also heard that "the positive birth book" by milli hill is a must read) and even though I don't remember the exact statistics it looks like induction can very often be a bit "too intense" for the body, it kind of kicks you off balance and your body's rhythm can't follow the chemically induced contractions. This can make the situation more painful that it'd normally be and also your body's efforts to "push" will be much less efficient. The statistics show that if you have an induction you're more likely to need pain relief and more likely to get a cascade of interventions (forceps, ventouse, episiotomy and c section).
There is also a lot written about inductions being given that might not be necessarily needed (if all other factors show that the baby is still ok and growing, the placenta working fine etc) and are only recommended based on dates.
I think it's very good to learn as much as possible about birth from now, so that anything that comes up closer to the birth doesn't shock us and we can take calm, informed decisions for whatever situations we have to face.
I'm very interested in all these stories of women that experienced birth as something not painful, even pleasant, orgasmic! If you have any good book/video recommendations, please share!
