@Twinkles18 I cant help with your question as such although my friend said within about 10 days they were less tender but she did say that cabbage leaves in your bra help with the pain / uncomfortableness.

PeppedUp · 15/05/2024 16:53

@Twinkles18 congratulations on your son! I can’t help with your milk question sorry.

@Judethepud good luck with your contractions. Hope they pick up soon and aren’t too painful in the meantime x

Mum2b2024 · 15/05/2024 16:53

@Twinkles18 congratulations :) enjoy and hope all going well!

PeppedUp · 15/05/2024 17:09

@SarahB88 have a nice time getting your nails done. I would love to get a pedicure but they will have to put up with my puffy feet! I’m also not very mobile so will have to check if I can bus or taxi.

I watched childhood films the day before I went into labour with my first. I have it in my head that the warm fuzzies got my oxytocin going and got him out! (Never seen it recommended anywhere else though so may all be in my head!)

MrsB2005 · 15/05/2024 20:16

I've seen the midwife this afternoon, and she had to get a second and third opinion on babys head as she couldn't find it.

We had already declined a sweep (I'm now regretting this) but babies head is 1/5 palpable and both her and the other midwives reckon it could / should be any day. She has given me lots of tips to get things moving.

Hope everyone else is doing ok?!?

SarahB88 · 15/05/2024 21:06

My relaxing day became a bit dramatic! I noticed I hadn’t felt baby move today and couldn’t get her going myself with cold drinks, lying down etc so had to call triage. She’s on the go again but they aren’t 100% happy with how she’s doing. I got another sweep and I’m booked in for balloon induction tomorrow in the hopes that gets things going. If labour doesn’t start they reckon they’ll be able to break my waters after the balloon so looks like we could have baby before or actually on her due date!

They’ve sent me home for now so I got a dominos pizza on my way back 😂

Sa11yCinnamon · 15/05/2024 21:58

@SarahB88 oh god that sounds stressful, hope you’re doing ok and pizza helps!

Thanks @Sa11yCinnamon I just want this baby out now! I wasn’t meant to be accepting any kind of induction 🙈 but thought I’ll just do the balloon, why not, no drugs involved so let’s see what happens. I seem to have had constant braxton hicks after this sweep though so maybe it’s doing something, will see how the night goes. My partners back from soon so he can listen to me huff and puff about being uncomfortable!

PeppedUp · 15/05/2024 22:57

@SarahB88 that’s so good that you went and got it checked out. Induction actually sounds pretty appealing to me instead of the uncertainty of waiting! Good luck and likewise to you @MrsB2005 !

MrsB2005 · 16/05/2024 07:58

@SarahB88 Sorry your relaxing day turned out to be anything but ... But glad you've got a plan and hopefully you'll have your little girl in your arns for the weekend.

Let us know how you get on!

@PeppedUp Thanks Lovely, I've hated the not knowing when but last night I spent the night quite tearful (will blame pregnancy hormones) that the end is in sight and as its most definitely our last, I wont ever be pregnant again. My midwife is on AL after the weekend so I'm kinda hoping to hold off till past my due date as then she'd be back on shifts and a higher chance she could deliver our little one.

At this point - I just feel sorry for my husband who cant do right for doing wrong. I hate him 99% of the time atm for no reason at all and do have to send loving texts through the day to apologise for being so horrible

My friend had the balloon induction and had a really positive experience, I know induction as a whole gets a bit of a bad rep but there are definitely good stories out there. I asked around a bit when thinking about my birth plan, it’s not my first choice but I’m open to it if it’s advised. Good luck! X

@MrsB2005 my hormones have definitely been more in the driving seat this week, just as my husband mentioned that he didn't think my mood swings had been too noticeable in pregnancy🙈We try to have a laugh about it, especially as there is sometimes no reason at all for me to be welling up. Try and go easy on yourself, we are going through a lot right now!

SarahB88 · 16/05/2024 10:38

@Sa11yCinnamon Ah good to hear your friend had a good experience! My friend had a failed one but she said the balloon part was fine, it was the drip after that she didn’t get on with and ended in section anyway. If balloon and breaking my waters doesn’t work I’m just getting a section so feel ok about it all.

I’m booked in for 2.30! I can have gas and air whilst they’re inserting it which is good to know.

MrsB2005 · 16/05/2024 11:27

@SarahB88 Will be thinking of you this afternoon! Hope it all goes well and its just the kickstart you need to get things moving x

junebuglb · 17/05/2024 03:12

Nice to catch up on how everyone is doing :) just wanted to update on our end that after a month on neonatal we are finally home with our baby girl. We’ve had a couple of nights with her so far and she’s brilliant. Sleep deprived but happy 🤣 x
What a journey! Good luck to everyone with their little ones

Yourowgirl · 17/05/2024 07:00

So glad to hear this @junebuglb, it must have been a difficult time for you. Enjoy being home with her at last!
Hope all went ok yesterday @SarahB88

PeppedUp · 17/05/2024 09:34

@MrsB2005 this may be my last as well. I’d be open to another but at the moment my partner says he can’t handle a third! We’re also all a bit tetchy at each other - I’m feeling immobile and impatient, partner is doing everything in terms of parenting and housework and our poor son is feeling a bit neglected. Luckily father in law arrived over the weekend and has been really helpful.

@junebuglb that’s great that you’re home after such a long time and that it sounds like it’s going well x

Sa11yCinnamon · 17/05/2024 13:00

Saw the midwife this morning and feeling a bit deflated, baby isn’t engaged yet (but getting there apparently) and because my fluid was slightly high at my last scan she said they won’t do any sweeps there. Back in a week when I’ll be three days over where I assume the only option will be to discuss induction. Both praying something happens before then and trying to accept that there’s a very real chance it won’t.

@Sa11yCinnamon Try not to be too disheartened and try "lots of the old wives tales" for getting them moving. X

Sa11yCinnamon · 17/05/2024 14:55

@MrsB2005 thank you, I’m all over them! Also had a big old cry which helps 😅 I’ve been feeling stressed/time pressure because my in laws have booked a visit during school holidays (they’re lovely, it’s nothing against them) and one of my partner’s close friends died and the funeral will be 400 miles away so he’ll only be able to go if baby is here. I just need to accept it’s not in my control, which isn’t a strong point of mine!

PeppedUp · 17/05/2024 16:26

@Sa11yCinnamon oh no, sorry to hear that. I was in the same position last week and waiting to see if they can do it instead at my appointment next week. I can’t do squats, curb walking etc due to pelvic girdle pain so I’m not hopeful though.

Sorry to hear about your partner’s friend as well x

Sa11yCinnamon · 17/05/2024 20:20

@PeppedUp thank you, sorry you’re in the same boat!

Ergh I’m so fed up!

So sorry to hear so many of us are residing in Struggsville at the moment.

I’ve just always got an awful pregnancy symptom. On mat leave now so tried to relax but randomly yesterday had piles! Never had them in my life and now I get it a week before my section. Typical! On top of that, still have pelvic girdle pain, knackered, had the most awful night sweats and nightmares last night. I wonder whether my patience and tolerance for it all is wearing thin because of my section date being so close but even so… poor me haha

SarahB88 · 18/05/2024 01:19

@Sa11yCinnamon and @cosylife sorry to hear you’re not having a good time! @Sa11yCinnamon Do you have a birth ball? There’s a lunge type exercise you can do on it to open up your pelvis and it’s meant to help baby drop. I don’t know if it’s what worked for me but baby was 1/5th palpable on Thursday. @cosylife when is your section? Hopefully not long to go.

We welcomed our baby girl this afternoon, weighing a lovely 7lb7. It wasn’t the birth I’d hoped for but it’s ended in a positive story.

I went to triage on Wednesday for reduced movements and was told because baby was so low we thought we’d try the cool balloon to help dilate me further in the hope of my waters then breaking naturally. Well I cannot tell you how awful the balloon experience was in my individual experience. We tried for 20 mins to get it in and whilst I was dilated the midwife couldn’t get my cervix forward enough, enough with a speculum and we had to give up. This was at my birth centre and they recommended I try again at the hospital later on so off we went to the hospital. During this time I had a significant bleed and didn’t want to proceed with trying the balloon again so asked if my section date could be brought forward as discussed and agreed with the doctor the day before. The midwife was quite horrible to me and kept trying to push me down induction route even though I knew my cervix was not favourable enough and I have always said that I did not consent to induction and if she needed out it would have to be section. The midwife said she’d get the doctor but I should really consider induction even thought I’d said no repeatedly and got upset and cried, I was in a lot of pain from the failed attempt and she didn’t even want to see my blood soaked pad!

We waited about 2.5 hours for the doctor to see us and thankfully she was wonderful. She came to say she’d booked us in for section on Friday if I was happy to proceed. I agreed and we got to go home Thursday night.

We arrived at the hospital at 11am today knowing there was some people in before us and we were last on the list. We were constantly informed of progress, I was prepped in plenty time and my partner was included in everything and even sat with me for getting the spinal.

Baby arrived with a little fight to get her out because she was so far down 🙈 but she’s absolutely perfect and almost exactly her predicted weight. I ended up losing a lot of blood during the op and needed a transfusion straight after. Everyone in the room remained so calm I didn’t even know we were having an emergency until they told me what they’d done to fix it, I’d already consented to transfusion if needed.

Baby managed to latch quickly after I was sorted out and had been an absolute milk monster since! I’m so pleased with how we’ve both taken to breastfeeding ☺️

I have to say my experience on Friday has totally made up for my terrible day on Thursday. The planned section was so calm and a really positive environment to be in, the whole team have been amazing. Since my op someone has regularly come round to change my pad and empty my catheter. I’ve had plenty of pain meds and feel really good just now.

We are having a contact nap til she wakes to get her nappy changed again and will try to pop her in her cot after that. She gets hungry so quickly after going down! We might get home tomorrow if they’re happy with everything, not it’ll be Sunday.

Good luck to everyone still to go, I’ll be keeping an eye out for updates!

LondonGirl1992 · 18/05/2024 06:32

Good morning all! Our little boy arrived on Wednesday via a planned section. He was as big as predicted- above the 96th percentile and 9lbs8. I also had triple the usual amount of amniotic fluid- over 1.2L which means I 100% made the right choice and my growth scans were all totally accurate.

The planned section was terrifying but perfect- the staff were amazing and it was such a lovely experience. So far my recovery has been positive too- a bit of pain but nothing that hasn’t been sorted with paracetamol.

Ive found the whole experience so magical and overwhelming- I can’t explain how much I love him and how perfect he is. I feel so proud of him and just in such awe- I can’t stop staring!

I found the whole hospital experience so wonderful too- he didn’t latch for the first 24 hours so we stayed in for an additional night for some extra support and the staff were just so caring and lovely with us both. The lack of sleep is certainly a killer!

Now he’s here and we are home, I’m finding I worry about everything! He didn’t feed as much as I’d have liked yesterday or through the night and I am just full of worry- but hopefully we will establish more of a routine today and I don’t think I need to worry about him wasting away with the fat supplies he has. He has stolen my whole heart and is the best thing I’ve ever done. I just can’t stop crying with emotion- the day 3 hormones have certainly hit hard!

Good luck to everyone else who is due in the coming days/weeks- it’s just the best thing in the world and I am so excited for you all. We are all so lucky! 🥰
