Started a new thread as the last one is full.
Got my apt letter today for my scan in Jan will be the 11th should be 12w 3D.

@Oatmilk - it is tough but what else cam we do. Have no other choixe but to suffer and keep going. I reflect very very often in the ease of my last pregnancy. Naps when I wanted. Sleep in when I wanted. Just really self centered 😂 now I am lucky to put my feet up for 10mins.

I just think loooooads of women have done, are doing it. And I need to suck it up.
My Nausea is easing up a little the last couple days. So hopefully it goes soon.

Is anyone else experiencing cramping? I wouldn't say it's there all the time and I'm not doubled over in pain but they're definitely like bad period pain! I can't remember having this with my first so I'm a little nervous that something might he wrong.

Savvy21 · 10/01/2024 21:31

@BunBun221 how many weeks are you? I have bad back pain which didn't happen with my first but everything was OK at my 12 week scan. Just in that weird in between bit where I've seen a baby but I just look like I ate too much at Christmas.

BunBun221 · 10/01/2024 21:41

@Savvy21 14 weeks now. Everything was okay for my 12 week scan so I'm hoping it's all fine, I can't help but worry though because I'm constantly comparing to my first pregnancy!

Savvy21 · 10/01/2024 21:43

@BunBun221 I'm also 14 weeks. Perhaps our bodies are just complaining that we are going through it again 😂

wannabe123 · 11/01/2024 07:23

@BunBun221 I'm 14 weeks too and I'm sure I wasn't this achy this early with my first. I've woken up this morning with an ache above my right hip, a nose bleed and a bit of nausea again!
Also feel like I'm in the 'I just look like I ate a bit much at Christmas" group. 🤦🏼‍♀️

Thanks for your responses guys, @Morningcoffeeaddict @CB2805 @chilliflakesmum sorry to hear that you all don’t have the greatest experiences either. Yes it would be great to have the reassurance of someone to respond if I need it, luckily nothing serious has happened to me yet (and hopefully never will) but I’m just a bit concerned who to contact in case it did - I have rang the hospital receptions in the past but I have had to go on hold so I can’t imagine that’s gonna be good if I’m ever in an emergency. I guess at this stage I would need to ring 111 if anything serious was to happen (which again, hopefully it never will!)
My current midwife is actually from a different hospital that I plan to give birth at (I am moving house soon so I’ve chosen to give birth at a hospital closer to my new house) - I think I’m going to try and request a midwife change for someone who works in the hospital, as that makes more sense to me than having someone that’s not even connected to where I’m giving birth.
I know that the further along you are , the more appointments you end up having, so hopefully once we get to the late second/third trimester we might end up feeling a bit more supported!

I’ve seen a few comments about sickness later on in the first/early second trimester, luckily I’ve not had huge sickness but I did find my sickness was worse between 8-13 weeks - particularly around 11-13 weeks. I have read that it usually peaks at around 7 weeks but I didn’t find this at all. I do still feel sick first thing in the morning and occasionally have periods of nausea but for the most part mine has improved since 13 weeks (I’m now about 15). I know some people get sickness throughout pregnancy though!

would love to try pregnancy yoga! Going to see if I can find some classes in my area.

has anyone been suffering with headaches in their pregnancy, particularly over second trimester? I never usually get headaches at all, I got a couple in first trimester but they usually went after 20/30 mins. I had a really annoying headache over the weekend which luckily subsided on Monday, but now I’m finding that when I wake up my head always feels a bit sore. Nothing severe but just noticed it more that usual in the last week or so. Not sure if it’s tension headaches as I get a bit of eye pain with them too. Wondered if anyone has had the same!

Chili15 · 11/01/2024 07:59

Hi everyone. Hope you’re all coping fine! Feeling so much better now that I’m nearer to the 2nd trimester 🥲

I have a bit of a dilemma I wanted to share for support.

Im a bit concerned about taking the enhanced maternity package my company offers mainly cause it’s just 3 months and then they want expect me to work 12 months upon your return to pay it back. Also, they’re requesting everyone to go back 5 days in the office and I’m not sure how doable it will be once I have a baby. I just want to explore all my options. I know I can’t change jobs now I’m pregnant but if anyone has had a similar story they’d like to share. My partner has a good job but I don’t think we’d be able to live with just one wage. I’m keen to work but ugh this job is a disgrace. Plus everyone is leaving due to the 5 day office policy so it will be like a new job after Mat leave.

Hi all.
Has anyone had there results back from there dating scan and they fall in the bracket for potential Down syndrome?

The liquid on the back of the baby's neck was 2.1 which is fine but it was my blood test that came back to say either me or the baby's hcg is higher than normal which can indicate that it's potentially Down syndrome. Obviously I will love the baby whatever may happen but I'm kinda go out of my mind because I wanted what everyone wants... a healthy baby. The bracket I fall in is the lowest bracket of 1 in 150k chances. So we have had the NIPT test done, anyone know how long this usually takes and if results has been a high or low chance what have you done?

Tia xx

Ok, I assumed that this was abroad? This is a bit weird firstly I have a couple of points to make.

Yes you can switch jobs whilst pregnant however you will only be entitled to maternity allowance not statutory maternity pay due to not being at the new company long enough to qualify. Which is lower than the normal statutory amount.

What is the 'enhanced package' they offer? Is this like full pay for the first 3 months or something? Can you not opt to decline it? And just have statutory? So you don't have to pay it back?

Also they have to be flexible when returning to work watch this TikTok vm.tiktok.com/ZGe2vDDx5/
There's also loads of information on the ACAS website (they are the regulatory body for employment law and your first steps of communication for any work related matter) about maternity leave and returning to work.

Also if you have a home insurance policy you will have something called 'legal expenses cover' they offer a free 24hr legal service which can answer work related matters and go through any legal matter with you over the phone. They can also represent you legally if you need to up to the limit stated on your policy x

chilliflakesmum · 11/01/2024 11:35

Hey @pleasehelp5 I have. Mine was 2.8mm, and it came back as 1 in 12 chance of Downs Syndrome. My age also contributed (i'm 38). I had a CVS test last Friday and the results came back late Monday evening (everything is fine thank god!). Did you mean 1 in 150 and not 150k?
See what the NIPT results say first - one day at a time. Its so hard not worrying isn't it.

Oatmilktea · 11/01/2024 11:43

I had my 12 week scan today, the baby wasn’t co-operating and wouldn’t stretch out so they couldn’t tell me my due date. They also couldn’t do the screening test which has caused me a bit of worry as I’m not booked back in for another 3 and a half weeks where they will do another dating scan and will do a blood test for the screening test. Another anxious wait ahead of me!

Morningcoffeeaddict · 11/01/2024 13:39

@CMRC17 i think that makes sense asking to change midwife - maybe the new one will be more responsive to you. Have you got the badgernotes app? There should be a list of contact details in there and mine includes the midwife pool number so at least I can get hold of a midwife even if not my own.

@Chili15 that sounds like an unreasonable set of restrictions to me! My work ask me to go back for 12weeks after maternity but my EMP is for 6months and they’re a really small company so it seems fairly reasonable to me. I also work from home full time on flexible hours anyway so I have no concerns about returning to them after maternity.

I think you can choose as mentioned above to just have the SMP from them - they get refunded for that bit by the government anyway is my understanding so no reason for them to place demands on you returning after etc.

Alwaystired2023 · 11/01/2024 14:27

@Oatmilktea love your wild baby who won't behave for anyone 🤣 did they not want to move despite you shaking hips etc? Maybe a sugary drink before you go in next time and a brisk walk before you go in? Sorry it's quite a wait before you go back, not nice at all

How is your sickness?

AnonymousXXIX · 11/01/2024 14:48

Had a good scan today, phew!! Measuring exactly according to my own date calculations. They couldn't do my screening bloods either though and I have to wait till Feb 1! Really nerve-wracking.

Oatmilktea · 11/01/2024 14:52

@Alwaystired2023 They tried everything, unfortunately baby is just a little lazy bones. Chilling with its legs in the air 😂

@AnonymousXXIX glad to hear your scan went well!

Aww super cute though @Oatmilktea !

Busyhedgehog · 11/01/2024 15:20

Had my scan today as well. Everything seems fine. We've already had the NIPT results back (took about 1 week). My doctor couldn't really tell us, yet, but it looks like we'll have another boy. 😀
We went out to eat sushi to celebrate and I had some amazing chicken and mango salad. DS basically ate his own bodyweight in sushi and while he was a bit disappointed at not getting a little sister, he's now already planning what to teach the baby in Minecraft.

I had similar at my appointment this week with baby sleeping in an upside down position!! The sonographer very roughly pushed the probe into my groin repeatedly and baby did move enough for her to get measurements. I offered to wiggle to try and get her to stop being so rough but she just kept digging the probe harder!!

so I suppose what I’m saying is although I get that it is totally annoying at least they weren’t very rough with you 😂

also you get wee extra peek of baby!! I think you are in the same boat as me and a little older though? So do understand the worry about the DS test. If really worried about that I would call your midwife and ask to be scanned again Asap. Not your fault baby wouldn’t stretch out!!

Alwaystired2023 · 11/01/2024 15:41

@Oatmilktea oh look so cute ❤️

I had this problem and they said going for a walk and a bounce around (jumping on the spot a little). But a friend of mine said next time have something fizzy to drink before you next go in because the bubbles make them more active and stretch out x

Hi, thank you for sharing this with us, I appreciate it. Wow you had a the CVS, how did you feel having it done. I think the first midwife got confused and kept saying 150k whereas when we went yesterday she said 1 in 150 x

TWellsWellsy · 11/01/2024 17:50

@ceruleansky @chilliflakesmum
Yoga was so lovely and relaxing! Great to meet some other mums to be, all at different stages. Really think the breathing exercises will help further down the line. Definitely recommend 😀

Oatmilktea · 11/01/2024 18:26

Thanks guys, hopefully everything will be ok just feeling a little anxious for the wait! The sonographer got me to shake my hips but I wish I knew about having a fizzy drink before hand! She did say she wasn’t concerned about anything at all so that should put my mind at ease I suppose.

Im also considering pregnancy yoga but have never done yoga in my life 😂 will it be suitable for an absolute beginner?
