Started a new thread as the last one is full.
Got my apt letter today for my scan in Jan will be the 11th should be 12w 3D.

@Oatmilk - it is tough but what else cam we do. Have no other choixe but to suffer and keep going. I reflect very very often in the ease of my last pregnancy. Naps when I wanted. Sleep in when I wanted. Just really self centered 😂 now I am lucky to put my feet up for 10mins.

I just think loooooads of women have done, are doing it. And I need to suck it up.
My Nausea is easing up a little the last couple days. So hopefully it goes soon.

Hi everyone! Hope those of you that are having sickness/bad pains are doing OK this evening!
@ChildOfTheMoon dont worry this is normal, I’ve been told some people don’t feel anything until 20 weeks. I’m 14 weeks and most of the time I don’t feel pregnant at all!!! I only do when I get a bit of nausea or when I get tired in the evenings. But in terms of feeling the baby or feeling ‘different’ in my tummy, I’ve had nothing out of the ordinary yet! And I could see my baby wriggling SO much on my 12 week scan, but didn’t feel anything!

im trying not to use this chat to complain but I feel like that’s what I always end up doing haha! I wanted to ask if anyone has felt like they are lacking support from their midwife/ hospital/appointments in general? I’ve not had a great experience from the start to be honest. Firstly I totally appreciate that NHS staff are severely overworked and they do all they can!! Not wanting to sound horrible to anyone working in the industry. However I just feel like my midwife experience isn’t what I expected - my midwife doesn’t have a phone and so there’s no way of me contacting her. I’ve only met her at my booking appointment over a month ago and haven’t heard anything from her since. Then I’ve had a similarly not great experience from the hospital - I feel like everything is a bit unorganised? I’ve been told to look at badger notes for any updates on appointments and test results but it doesn’t send me notifications so it’s just a case of me randomly finding things on there when I log on. I was supposed to have a telephone consultant appointment tomorrow (I think this is regarding a previous surgery I’ve had and how it might affect the labour etc) and I’ve just gone to check badger notes and the appointment is cancelled. No phone call or letter or anything and I have no idea if it’s going to be rearranged. I don’t know if my expectations have just been too high going into this! But wondered if anyone else has had the same. Sorry for the long spiel!

Morningcoffeeaddict · 09/01/2024 21:34

@chilliflakesmum yes 12 week scan next week - I’ll be 12+6 then.

@CMRC17 - yes I’m with you. My midwife has been good (although also doesn’t have a phone number I can see, I have to phone the central desk and they get her to call me back) but she’s currently on holiday for two weeks. I’m meant to be under consultant care but have heard nothing from the consultant yet. My booking bloods are off (I’ve seen them and my thyroxine and iron are both below range) but no one has taken any action - my GP is refusing to prescribe anything or adjust my existing meds because he’s panicking about the high risk pregnancy so midwife contacted the consultant for her to do it and silence from her as well. My bloods were two weeks ago so I’m really frustrated by this inaction!

justanotherlaura · 09/01/2024 23:25

@CMRC17 I'm sorry you're having trouble, my midwife has a phone that she will answer on work days but I've not had to use it. I broke down in my booking appointment about being terrified of a second labour and she organised a meeting with mental health team next week and one with obstetrics at the same time as my 12 week scan to discuss elective section option.

I'm in Scotland and I read that our midwifery isn't quite as understaffed as England so that might be the difference? Totally unacceptable level of care though!

CB2805 · 10/01/2024 00:20

@CMRC17 same boat here, and honestly I thought I was over dramatic!
im classified as high risk pregnancy due to IVF, twin pregnancy, lots of bleeding and previous surgeries. Well on my first appointment with midwife I mentioned million of things that was recommended from my ivf doctor and honestly she just brushed everything off and didn’t make any notes at all! Anyway long story short I changed maternity care after a visit to epu and they recommended to transfer there as the care is better. Well I have no clue who is my midwife or how to get in touch with her.
tomorrow I have my 12 week scan and I honestly hope I will get some answers and ways to get in touch with them.

Busyhedgehog · 10/01/2024 07:19

I remember always seeing someone else last time I was pregnant with DS but that was 8 eight years ago. We also had different people come to the house after the birth.
This time round, you have to "find" your own midwife and the insurance then pays for them. It depends on the area and can be really tricky to organise. (Maternity care tends to be covered through the gynaecologist, though, so you could manage without a midwife.) I emailed and phoned a few in our area and have got someone now. We'll have a meeting when I'm about 15 weeks and she's also linked to our local hospital, so will likely be present at the birth. Her main job will be support after birth, though, since I'm sticking with my gynaecologist for the prenatal care. So far, it's all been really smooth and efficient.
I have to admit, I found the NHS care absolutely fine as well, though. However, as I said, that was 8 years ago.

ceruleansky · 10/01/2024 08:45

I completed 11 weeks yesterday and today I'm just out of it. This has to be my worst pregnancy day so far. I didn't have significant nausea before, never got sick but today it's so bad. Nausea has peaked. I mean I feel like my eyes can't even focus.
I haven't taken the day off work but I got 2 hours off to just sleep. It's so awful. All I can eat is dry noodles which I know is not good for baby but the empty stomach just makes it worse. I've also been having orange ice lollies. I did not see this coming. The good thing is I've gotten permission to work from home until March.
Sorry about the rambling I've just not felt this way at all in my life. Not even during my worst hangover.

I really hope you ladies are doing well and have crossed this stage. 💗 I'm so ready to finish my first trimester next week.

ExpectantEs · 10/01/2024 09:18

@ceruleansky I'm so sorry you're feeling this way. Don't worry about the dry noodles, at this point anything that makes you feel better is the priority. Second trimester is very soon, and hopefully it will be much better. Sending good energy your way!

chilliflakesmum · 10/01/2024 09:24

I'm sorry you're not having the best experience @CMRC17 I understand how frustrating it is. When I had my son in 2021, I didn't see a midwife until I was 32 weeks. It was horrendous. I was also at risk of pre-eclampsia and I remember begging my then midwife to see me but she was so rude. I requested a new midwife and was immediately given a new one who was a breath of fresh air! This was in central London. I'm now up North and this time round I've had more care in 15 weeks than I had for the entirety of my pregnancy with my son.
Badger wasn't the best back in 2021 either.
I hope it gets better for you. Vent away here - it really helps ❤️

Have my first pregnancy yoga class tonight! Excited to meet some other mums to be 😊! Anyone else attending classes or have in the past? How did you find them?

AnonymousXXIX · 10/01/2024 10:07

I wasn't super impressed by the midwife care last pregnancy; but then it was mid-COVID so I put it down to that. Saw different midwifes nearly every time; had two or three phone numbers but calls mostly went unanswered. Had my post-labour debrief (13 months later..!!) with a dr and midwife that had not even been working at the hospital when I gave birth lol. With that said, whatever dozen midwives looked after me during my mammoth labour were all fantastic beautiful angels, and so was the night nurse on the ward where I had to stay for ages after (not the day nurse, she was not nice). So it does not really matter to me that none of them were the same person consistently. Would really love a solid contact to call/text though, that would be so comforting.

ceruleansky · 10/01/2024 10:43

@ExpectantEs
Thank you for saying that! I'm hoping it gets better in a few weeks. How are you doing?

@TWellsWellsy
Hope you have a nice time in class. I plan to start yoga after week 14.

Have my first pregnancy yoga class tonight! Excited to meet some other mums to be 😊! Anyone else attending classes or have in the past? How did you find them?

I never did with my first because it was lockdown and by the time things had opened up again I was too big 😂
I'm going to start yoga in two weeks though. Let us know how you find it tonight - I hope you enjoy!

ExpectantEs · 10/01/2024 10:56

@ceruleansky I'm glad! I'm actually okay today but been having really bad insomnia where I'm just staring at the ceiling for about 2 hours each night. Yesterday I went on an hours walk and I'm thinking that made me tired enough and I slept through the night last night. I'm feeling much better today.

Reading all of your comments has made me think about the midwife thing. I had a booking appointment and 12 week scan. What's meant to happen next? I'm 14w5d - is there meant to be an upcoming midwife appointment soon, before my 20 week scan? I haven't heard from anyone from the midwifery team.

ExpectantEs · 10/01/2024 11:00

Ignore my question below, just had a look at the booklet. Meant to be having a midwife appointment at week 16 - but haven't heard from anyone.

trebuvie · 10/01/2024 12:36

Hello everyone and happy new year. Hope you're all feeling alright!

I haven't been on Mumsnet for a few weeks because I suddenly got to a point where more than like 10min of screen time makes me nauseous. It's awful now that I'm back at work. I did 2 days and then asked to be signed off medically, I just can't physically do the job even though it's "just" computer work.

Isn't morning sickness meant to peak at some point?? I feel it's getting worse and worse with every week. I'm 11-12wks-ish and throwing up like 5 times a day, even when there's nothing to throw up. Constantly feel so weak and tired I can't even get out of bed. Feeling so dehydrated, even those sports electrolyte drinks hardly help. But I had such a slow ramp up to it that I thought until about 3wks ago that I'd gotten away with it - and then bam. Is it going to end...?! Any advice??

bringmearainbow · 10/01/2024 12:41

@ExpectantEs I had to contact my midwife to book in my 16 week appointment they don't automatically do it for you

@trebuvie sorry you're feeling so rotten my nausea disappeared at about the end of week 13

Oatmilktea · 10/01/2024 12:59

@trebuvie sorry you’re feeling rubbish. I’ve been signed off work for 2 weeks as well due to feeling exactly as you have explained. The rest is helping a little. I’m currently 12w2d, hopefully by the time I’m due back at work I’ll be feeling better. Make sure you’re getting loads of rest! Has the GP prescribed you anything for your nausea? Cyclazine has made a small difference to mine. Hope you feel better soon

Cherubs4 · 10/01/2024 13:05

Glad to see it so active on here. I saw there was a link to a facebook group - is everyone on there? I don't really use it but could make an account if it's really active

15 weeks here - feeling good! Finally! I mean, the beautiful sunshine helps but I feel so much better. Just extremely hungry. Like having to eat around twice through the night hungry. I googled it and it seems to be a fairly normal symptom of 2nd trimester but I haven't had it before and this is my 4th child.

@Julymumtobe I have been thinking of your post last week. I really hope that you're okay and all turned out well.

@TWellsWellsy Definitely going to join pregnancy yoga, think I can stay awake now for the night class. Had to stop my regular sporting lessons as I just couldn't keep up and it didn't feel right.

Got some nice maternity outfits too so feeling better about myself. After all, 2 outfits that fit on rotation is so much better than many, not quite fitting outfits. Everyone else getting some nice outfits ordered?

ExpectantEs · 10/01/2024 13:29

@bringmearainbow thank you, I will ring them up myself and get an appointment in.

I don't know what I would do without this group - would feel so lost lol

ceruleansky · 10/01/2024 13:59

@ExpectantEs
Glad to hear you've found a way to beat the insomnia. Also a common symptom apparently. Why is pregnancy so manic?! My husband had the AUDACITY to say "if you're happy, the baby will be happy, don't think about being sick". He's usually not so tone deaf but !!!

@trebuvie
Just started 11 weeks thinking I'm almost done with this horrid trimester without morning sickness only to have the nausea peak today. I haven't thrown up yet but I was out of it today. Glad you're able to rest. Can't imagine having to work during this time. I barely got any work done today.

chilliflakesmum · 10/01/2024 14:13

@trebuvie Oh no, I'm sorry you're feeling so ill. I had nausea from very early on, but started throwing up at 9/10 weeks. At one point 4 times a day 😭 Then my midwife gave me anti sickness tablets after my 12 week scan and I haven't thrown up since! Week 15 tomorrow and finally feeling better 🙏

@Cherubs4 Nice maternity clothes sound lovely! Where did you get them from? I've got rid of mine from my 1st pregnancy so on the look out for new ones ☺️

MoonIightDreamer · 10/01/2024 14:59

Had my first nhs scan and baby was kicking away.
Currently 13+1.
Does anyone find the nhs imagery is such low quality compared to private scans?
At our private scan at 10 weeks we could clearly make out the baby's form but with the nhs scan I could barely make anything out .
I thought we would have got a scan pic but nhs didn't offer us one

MrsHousePlant · 10/01/2024 15:45

@MoonIightDreamer Yes! My private scans are really good quality and even though the baby was much bigger at my 12/13 week appointment you can’t see anything as clearly. We got photos at our NHS one but had to pay £5 per photo!

trebuvie · 10/01/2024 18:05

@Oatmilktea and others... Thanks for the support, appreciate it! Hope there is light at the end of the tunnel!

I have my 12wk scan next week so if it's still this bad I might ask them for something. I'm hoping if I don't have to work / look at screens / commute then that might make it a bit more bearable.

@MoonIightDreamer oh no, that's been the one thing keeping me going, thinking of how clearly we're going to see the baby next week! Our 7wk scan was private and this one is NHS. I wonder why there's such a difference!

Julymumtobe · 10/01/2024 18:06

@Cherubs4 hello all was fine thanks for asking! I ended up in A + E and after a very long wait and a few tests they were happy that it was just a small tissue tear. Basically because I had been coughing with a chest infection and throwing up I had irritated some tissue somewhere causing a small bleed which I subsequently coughed up.
No impact to baby thankfully and I had my 12 week scan the next day which confirmed all was well.
