@Srs12 That's reassuring to hear, mine has been consistently off the chart but going in the right direction. With my last kid i measured big, was told he would be 10lb if born at 38 weeks, he was 7lb 15 oz at 41+2.
Fundal height measurement seems to be so inaccurate a measure.

I miscounted how far along i was the other day - think we have the same due date! I'm 39 weeks tomorrow. I can feel the wee one hiccuping in my pelvis, but also when they bounce up it causes awful indigestion.

Nclktnntt · 10/12/2023 11:04

@RG84 congratulations, glad all went well and hope you're recovering well 🥰

Those of you who have had babies before is it recommended to have the peppermint capsules/tea for vaginali births too? Or just incase you have to have an emergency c section? I love peppermint tea so normally have some in but since I went off all my teas I've not brought anymore back in, but thinking it might be worth it for post birth anyway?

I've only just remembered a new thread was made, was wondering why it was so quiet lol!

Congratulations to everyone who has had their little babas 🥰

@Flowersandfloral Thank you for telling your story! I'm booked in for a ELCS at 39 weeks exactly and keep worrying about what I'll do if baby comes earlier! I think section might still be my favoured option.

Noname112 · 10/12/2023 12:03

@Nclktnntt I didn’t need any peppermint etc after my vaginal birth. I think it’s more for trapped gas pain which occurs with surgery.

afternoontea86 · 10/12/2023 13:09

Just had an appointment this morning (39+3) and had a sweep. Consultant said I'm currently 2cm dilated/nearly 3 and baby would most likely be here by the end of next week hopefully. He said he could feel her head which is probably a good sign. Feeling a bit crampy now as well which is not pleasant. Off for a long dog walk now to try and walk her out!

Nclktnntt · 10/12/2023 15:02

Good luck @afternoontea86 I hope it works 😊

Thank you @Noname112 I think I'll get some in case i end up with an emergency c, I like it anyway

Congrats to all the other new mummies! Staring into my baby girls eyes is the best feeling in the world.

Just update on our little journey for those having sections etc. I'm 4 days post section now and have good movement and honestly no pain. I'm up and about and have to keep reminding myself not to do too much! I've taken paracetamol twice today more out of habit and because I keep getting told to than because I need it for pain relief. Not enjoying injecting myself for the blood clot medicine at all though!

Love to hear how others are getting on with breastfeeding though. Milk came in yesterday (my word the amount of leakage overnight!!) and since then I've been struggling with dizziness and generally feeling a bit weird which comes on really strong sometimes. Went proper out of it this morning, called midwife who says will be low blood sugar and I need to eat a whole lot more and make sure I have plenty of sugary carbs. I honestly thought I was eating a good amount, but apparently I need feeding constantly to battle it! I'm frustrated as wanted to eat healthily as I managed to do during pregnancy, but it seems sugary treats are what is required! It's first time in my life I don't actually want to stuff myself with cake! Anyone else had experience of this?

Congrats to everyone who’s had their baby’s so far💖 Our little boy arrived last night via emergency c section after a failed forceps and repositioning attempt in theatres

It wasn’t until I’d started pushing that they noticed he was facing upwards! He wasn’t making any progress and frankly I was shattered after a long 17 hours in active labour

would I do it again? It’s too early to say but I’d definitely be opting for an elective section if we do want another

Flowersandfloral · 11/12/2023 02:38

Congratulations @FirstMondayInMay! That must have been really difficult, but so glad he is here safely! Hope your recovery goes well x

Congratulations! Almost exactly what happened to me on Thursday delivering our little boy 💙 ours was at 90 degrees and tilted his head so he couldn't rotate.

Baby is doing well and didn't seem at all bothered by the whole ordeal, and so far I'm healing well, milk came in and so far exclusively breast feeding.

Hope you are getting all the support you need and both healing well x

ThomasinaLivesHere · 11/12/2023 10:19

@FirstMondayInMay Congratulations! Sounds a tough time. Glad things worked out well. It sounds similar to my first birth and I’ve elected for a c-section this time. The midwife has noticed that the baby is back to back as well. I think certain pelvis shapes make it more likely for the baby to be in the wrong position.

Charlielechat · 11/12/2023 11:18

@FirstMondayInMay Congratulations! Glad you're both ok now, though I'm sure it was very stressful at the time! You've reassured me with my decision for an elective section now - I'm not the best at remaining calm in stressful situations 🙈

SMG1992 · 11/12/2023 12:05

Congrats on all the babies born in the last few days!
I had a scan today and have now opted for elective section due to his size and especially his head measurement. Date is on Thursday which is actually my due date anyway. He’s nowhere near engaged so I doubt anything will happen before then.
The doctor didn’t try to put me off at all and was almost saying c-section was best decision which I found odd from other people’s stories

Need to have a read up on c-section recovery now. Any tips appreciated!

afternoontea86 · 11/12/2023 17:32

Congrats to all the new babies!

Had my sweep on Sunday and I think I'm in early labour! Been having irregular contractions throughout the day and so much lower back pain. Also had some bloody mucus. I've treated myself to a bath this afternoon and have spent the day on the sofa with a box of celebrations. Really hoping I go into labour because I'm not sure I can survive another day of this!

ThomasinaLivesHere · 11/12/2023 19:00

@SMG1992 It is interesting the different experiences women can have. When I had a meeting with a consultant requesting a c-section I told the consultant my first baby had a head measuring 98 percentile - he said that shouldn’t affect anything as the position is more important (easier for him to say!) and tried to convince me to go for vaginal birth this time.

One thing that I wish I’d been told about c-sections is the pain you can get in your shoulder. It started with me when I was out of hospital and I was so confused as it’s so far away from the area operated on and no one mentioned it. Anyway peppermint tea/tablets are supposed to help with it. I think as well just moving around as much as you can can help with recovery.

SMG1992 · 11/12/2023 19:23

@ThomasinaLivesHere my consultant was a female so maybe that’s why there was less pushback 🤔
ive ordered some peppermint tea and capsules for the trapped gas. Feeling relieved i now have a date as was starting to worry about how big he was getting.

sounds promising @afternoontea86 - fingers crossed things start progressing for you

Charlielechat · 11/12/2023 19:49

Funny you say that @ThomasinaLivesHere and @SMG1992 The first consultant I had who offered me both section/induction was female, and when I went last week to book the section the male consultant tried to talk me out of it! Easy for a man to say 🙃
Very exciting yours is so soon @SMG1992 ! Exciting for you too @afternoontea86 hopefully that's the beginning of it for you now! Keep us posted!

RG84 · 11/12/2023 21:53

My c-section on the 8th went really well. I was more nervous this time as I knew the process and what to expect. My first was an emergency so I didn't get the time to process anything.
For me, I would advise as after the section if you are on the morning list, by the following morning, try and sit up on the hospital bed, if you don't try and make any movement, your body will go stiff and it will be 10 times harder when you do need to move. Even if you just sit up, or walk to the loo, just small movement. 2nd thing, keep on top of your painkillers. My hospital gave me various pain killers and a tick off sheet on the times I need to take them. Rather than the nurses coming to me, they had everything prepared for me. It's super important to keep on top otherwise the pain will kick in. You'll most likely get blood thinning injections to take for 10 days after the section. Today is day 3 of recovery and I already feel loads better. I hope that helps.

Is anyone finding breastfeeding hard? Today I had the midwife come over. I showed them how I am breastfeeding and I have been doing it wrong. I thought its the nipple that goes in as that's what I did on my first pregnancy and no one corrected me. So I've now been shown and baby boys latch was perfect on day 1 but I can't seem to now get the correct area in after being shown the right way. I have another midwife appointment on Wednesday so I'll ask again then. No wonder the nipples have been painful. Anyone know the best way to get most of the areola in?

Flowersandfloral · 12/12/2023 06:45

@RG84 yes I'm finding breastfeeding can be quite challenging as well. If I don't seem to hold her just right then she doesn't latch and it can all get pretty stressful for both of us. When I was in hospital I kept asking for midwife to help and found they all had slightly different methods. We can have a great feed and I think I've cracked it then it will be a really upsetting one where I can't get her to latch.

Good luck! I'm getting induced on 19th. Keep us posted on how it goes.

Have you had any signs of labour yet? I've been losing my mucus plug since Saturday, not bloody yet just a pale yellow colour. Had quite a bit of cramps too.

FirstMondayInMay · 12/12/2023 14:35

Thank you all for the lovely messages!

i agree with @RG84 in regards to keeping on top of pain meds! I didn’t take any over night last night and woke up in agony, safe to say I’ve set a 4-hourly alarm for the next few days at least!

GingerJanee · 12/12/2023 15:50

I’ve my elective caesarean booked for 20th December! Due on the 14th so really hoping I go myself before the caesarean but personally couldn’t settle on an induction for my own piece of mind so I choose the elective instead, feels very scary and real having a finish date in sight (albeit I could go before then) but I’ve absolutely no signs of labour starting anytime soon.

Charlielechat · 12/12/2023 15:56

@GingerJanee Mine is on the 20th too 🥰 I'm the opposite though and hoping baby doesn't come before then lol!
