Hi, so I started lightly bleeding on Friday. Went to get checked, cervix closed and looked fine, they thi k it's coming from higher up? Heard heartbeat. It stayed the same yesterday, like a pink/brown discharge. This morning I woke up to fresh red bleeding and a small clot. Came back in, they found heartbeat again. Did checks, all looks the same just a lot more blood. They've admitted me to a ward to stay in overnight! I'm terrified to say the least. Never had any of this in previous pregnancies. They can't tell me how it's going to go either way. Has anyone else had anything like this? I'm 16 +5 today

I had similar at 20 weeks. Woke up to bright red blood. A pretty heavy bleed with clots, they packed me internally (stayed in for half a day) said it was cervical ectopy and cervix was closed etc. They said it could happen again at any point but it didn't.

Carried full term to 40+2 and went in to spontaneous labour. Very straightforward birth. Will hopefully be the same for you. Good luck xx

Thankyou for this. They've said cervix looks fine. I do have slight cramps which is worrying me. Did you have any? It's the not knowing what's going on, guess I just have to wait and see.

I had bleeding very early on, I had a subchronionic hematoma, have they scanned you and checked you for one of those? X

No they won't do a scan! So annoying as I was actually booked in for a private one tonight but now I'm having to stay here. Bleeding is staying about the same. All they've said is they think it could be coming from the placenta? I don't get why they won't scan though

I had similar and was cervical exctropy or however you spell it. Hospital wouldn't scan me but I managed to get a private scan for peace of mind. I didn't feel happy until I'd seen baby on the screen. Happened a few times and all was well thankfully

Tryingtoconceivenumber2 · 05/11/2023 19:21

Yes I did have some mild back pain with it. It took about 3 days to stop as well and went from red to pink to brown like end of a period.

I'm now 36 weeks pregnant with DC2 and not had it at all this time so far x

HarrietStyles · 05/11/2023 19:25

I had a big bleed at 13w with my second child. Had a check at hospital and heartbeat was normal. Had a scan 3 days later and all was fine. They couldn’t explain all the blood. She is now a very healthy 10 year old.

Feckedupbundle · 05/11/2023 19:38

I had the same thing with both my Dds. I never found out what it was,but they suspected cervical erosion. It was terrifying at the time,as I 'd dreamt that I was bleeding, woke up,went to the loo,and found that I was. I wasn't scanned either time, and I wasn't allowed a 12 week scan either as I'd had an early scan at 6 weeks due to a previous ectopic. I had to wait until the 20 wk scan, which wasn't great.
I hope everything goes well for you.

Bet that was awful having to wait until 20 weeks? How many weeks were you when the bleeds happened? I just can't believe they're keeping me in hospital, it's like they're expecting the worst to happen 🙁

Thanks for that, was it just the one big bleed? I'm just praying this bleeding stops soon. I dread going to the toilet and seeing it 🙁

Wishing you all the best OP. My friend had a very heavy bleed which didn’t affect the pregnancy and she now has a lovely little girl

DewinDwl · 05/11/2023 20:06

I had some bleeding with dc1 and bled quite often with dc2 (light, pink, red, brown, flowing, spotting, clots, anything and everything, from conception to delivery). The cause was never established with 100% certainty but every person who looked down there said it was probably a cervical ectropion. Both pregnancies went to term, both kids are healthy and a pain in the arse .

Good luck OP xx

Loveandloveandlove · 05/11/2023 20:07

I had this with a low lying placenta. Thinking of you. Hope all goes well. X

Primproperpenny · 05/11/2023 20:09

Bled until 20 weeks with DC1. All fine. Never found a cause. Nothing with subsequent DC. Fingers crossed for you.

Allthecatseverywhereallatonce · 05/11/2023 20:12

I had a bleed the day after my 20 week scan it was terrifying. I bled on and off through my whole pregnancy. The fear never eases, however I delivered a healthy baby at term but my god it was a daily stress. I hope it will be the same for you. Look after yourself.

Poppsidoppsi · 05/11/2023 20:16

Hi OP, my friend also had a big bleed around the same gestation as you - she had a subchorionic (?sp) haematoma. I would try and push for a scan solely for peace of mind. Hope you are ok and you get some rest tonight x

Sunandnomoon · 05/11/2023 20:20

I had heavy bleeding at 15 weeks with my second child. When I went into hospital they had to change the pad I was sitting on due to the heavy flow and the doctor said they thought I was having a miscarriage. They did a scan which shocked us all to show a heartbeat. I stopped bleeding overnight. They told me they thought part of the placenta had come away causing the bleeding but didn’t know for sure what caused it. It was scary, but I now have a healthy 11 year old. I wish you all the best OP.

Pennyroses · 05/11/2023 20:31

Thankyou all so much for your reassuring replies. It really helps when you're laying in a hospital bed worrying yourself silly! Will see how it goes overnight. Bleeding seems to have stabilised for now, no worse but no better. Thanks again

I had bleeding from 4weeks all the way up to 20+ weeks with my pregnancy it was terrifying as I’d had a miscarriage a month before I got pregnant again. I was in and out of hospital around 50 times because of this I had clots and bright red blood lots of it sometimes each time they’d check my cervix and say that it’s fine etc. listen to baby and say baby was fine. I’m currently sat holding my little girl who is 3 weeks old tomorrow not all bleeding is a bad sign I hope that it clears up soon and that you get to enjoy the rest of your pregnancy because I found that I couldn’t enjoy my pregnancy because of all the worry. They didn’t find the cause of my bleeding but I had a polyp on my cervix which was also being irritated and caused some slight bleeding. keep us updated and make sure to take it easy and rest

Thankyou so much, this is very reassuring. I'm so glad all went well for you and congrats on your little girl ❤️

I had bright red bleeding with a clot at 15 weeks, they also kept me in overnight. They checked my cervix which was closed, had the obstetrician scan me and the next morning checked the heartbeat on the Doppler, everything was fine. They just said was unexplained bleeding and to take it easy for two weeks. I'm now 20 weeks 5 days and all is fine and I haven't had anymore bleeding. Take it easy and try not to worry, much easier said than done but try and rest whilst you're there.

Thankyou, so glad all is ok with you now! I wish they'd scan me but they've only listened to the heartbeat. I'll definitely be getting a private one done if they don't do one whilst I'm here x

They might not be rushing to scan you because they're confident that everything is okay from hearing the heartbeat and perhaps an ultrasound wouldn't tell them anymore; even if you would find it reassuring. Maybe ask in the morning if you can have a scan.

Yeh I think that's it. I'm on a ward with women about to give birth, not ideal! The midwife just came and was very sympathetic with me, as if it's definitely bad news 🙁 I'm so grateful for this thread and all the positive outcomes after similar issues. I'm just praying it'll be the same for me!

I’m sorry OP, bleeding in pregnancy is so difficult mentally. I had a few bleeds (one really quite large and a few big but not as big) between I think 12 and 16 weeks and all was fine - my waters did break at 35 weeks and I had DD at 36+5 but she was absolutely healthy and is four months old now. They think it could have been caused by a low lying placenta that then moved up or a possible (empty) second sac (vanishing twin). There are so so many things it could be and it’s not always bad news (in fact, this thread shows it often isn’t!) but I know it’s hard to remember that when you’re in the middle of it. So just wanted to send hugs and strength and I hope all is ok and sorted soon xx
