Hi, so I started lightly bleeding on Friday. Went to get checked, cervix closed and looked fine, they thi k it's coming from higher up? Heard heartbeat. It stayed the same yesterday, like a pink/brown discharge. This morning I woke up to fresh red bleeding and a small clot. Came back in, they found heartbeat again. Did checks, all looks the same just a lot more blood. They've admitted me to a ward to stay in overnight! I'm terrified to say the least. Never had any of this in previous pregnancies. They can't tell me how it's going to go either way. Has anyone else had anything like this? I'm 16 +5 today

I had bleeding on and off and my baby was born at 35 weeks, and was perfectly healthy.

I think maybe they're not scanning you because it won't change anything or cause them to make any particular decisions about your care.

I hope things are okay for you. It's horrible being stuck in hospital.

I had a few nasty bleeds when I was expecting my first child the worst at about 24 weeks IIRC. they thought it was fibroids causing them as no issues with my cervix. I had him at 40+5. Hope all is well it is frightening thinking of you . I hope the bleeding stops.

Thankyou for yet even more positive stories! I'm so grateful. Well I'd say it has slowed a bit this morning, still there but not as bad as it was. Barely had any sleep last night due to the woman next to me snoring like an elephant 😂 why does that always happen, there's always one isn't there! Thanks again everyone ❤️

I have had spotting all through my pregnancy (mostly pink, some brown)
At 16 weeks I had a huge bleed , bright red , they scanned and checked cervix, no issues.
I had it a few more times and it's eased but theyv scanned me everytime, still remains a mystery (25 + 4 weeks now)

Thanks, glad all is well with you now! I'm just waiting for the doctor to come and see me, I'm hoping they'll do a scan. Although the bleeding has almost stopped now, it's so weird. There seems to be no pattern or reason to it x

@Pennyroses you might have a placenta that's covering the cervix? I think they usually find this on the 20 weeks scan. Mine is anterior but everytime I mention bleeding to a new midwife or Dr they ask where my placenta is!

I did read once that can be a cause...

I was told at my 12 week scan that it's posteria but it could be low I guess? Doctor said today they think it's either a cervical ectroption they can't see or a part of the placenta might have detached. I've been discharged now as bleeding has slowed to minimal. Praying that's the end of it now!

I had this with my first and due to it being during lockdown they wouldnt even check me, said I had to wait it out and basically whatever will be will be... makes me angry thinking about it now, but it all ended ok in the end.
Mine lasted about a week all in and got lighter as the week progressed. DD born at 40 weeks and perfectly healthy.

Oh that must have been awful for you during lock down 🙁 so glad everything turned out ok! I'm really hoping the same happens for me x

Yes I had a horrendously heavy bleed at 17 weeks, was convinced I had lost the baby. Everything was fine and he's now 2. Try not to worry about things that haven't yet happened.

Thankyou, it's so hard not to worry though isn't it! I keep expecting it to happen again. But so far so good 🤞

I'm glad that the bleeding has slowed down.Hopefully you'll get some sleep tonight!
Reading these replies reminded me that my mum bled for the first bit of her pregnancy with my sister. This was 1970 so no scans then and mum didn't realise that she was pregnant until 4+ months. She thought it was messed up periods.

Theseventhmagpie · 07/11/2023 20:01

Lost 50p sized clots at 6 months. Later diagnosed with cervical ectropian. Healthy baby boy, now a strapping 6 footer.
Try not to worry and keep going back to get checked out if you’re still concerned.
Sendiing a hug.

CheshireCat1 · 07/11/2023 20:05

I started bleeding at 12 weeks with my third, had a scan, everything was fine. Carried on bleeding on and off until about 26 weeks. My baby was born at about 39 weeks, normal delivery and he’s now a strapping 27 years old. It turned out to be cervical polyps for which I had surgery to remove them 6 months later. I still remember the worry I had throughout the pregnancy.

I had two horrific bleeds at 16 and 19 weeks then again at 35 weeks for which I was in hospital for three nights. I had a subchorionic haematoma which caused spotting/light bleeding up until around 15 weeks. When my DD was born, they noticed something about the placenta and said to me they thought that was the issue which had caused the bleeding. I have no idea what it was- I was too out of it and happy she was ok! I also had a low lying placenta which a consultant seemed to think was the issue for the heavy bleeds.

Thanks, I do think this is what it might be. Did your bleeding ever completely stop or was it more spotting in between? Mines eased right off now but it's still very slightly pink/brown when I wipe. It's such a suspense every time I go to the toilet to see if it's there!

@Pennyroses the spotting/light bleeding was pretty constant until 15 weeks. The three heavy bleeds were heavy for about 15/20 mins and then got a lot lighter and it was over around 6 hours after it started.

Pennyroses · 07/11/2023 22:47

Thankyou, that sounds just like what happened to me. Although had no bleeding at all until Friday (16+3) it started with just spotting but on Sunday turned into quite a heavy bleed. It was over in hours though and back to very slight spotting again. I'm feeling a lot more hopeful now, thanks again x

Thankyou! It really is, it's the not knowing and the lack of control you have over it that makes it so bad! I'm so glad all went well for you and I'm hoping the same happens for me x

I bled in both my pregnancies - massively stressful as I had had a MMC before them, but both are now noisy messy teenagers xxx lots of love - I can still remember the stress of it now x

Hi, well it all settled a bit after my stay in hospital but never fully went away. Then on Monday I had another big bleed, went to get checked again and they've finally diagnosed me with cervical ectoption. It's a relief to have an answer but I still can't relax as it's not really gone away fully yet. But every time they check baby all is fine, I had a gender scan on Sunday and I'm having a little girl 😊💗 so just shows bleeding isn't always bad! x

@Pennyroses I'm so glad you got a diagnosis, and that the bleeding isn't coming from the placenta.
It probably won't stop you worrying though. Anyone would panic to see bleeding during pregnancy.

I hope it all goes well for the next few months.

Thankyou so much!! I'm hoping so too, it really is the worst seeing bleeding when you're pregnant x
