Here is promised thread jessi! Congratulations too Ellasmum and jessi - Ellasmum, my due date will be about 20th July I think. Haven't seen any midwife or doctor yet - trying to remember what I did when last time!

Hi all, Had 21wk scan on mon, all is well. also resisted asking sex! Baby has spine against my skin so all movments are squirms not punches. Have also just had a vein in my leg GO. V veins are painfull! it aches all the time. am also bigger then in last 2 pregs!

Jzee · 13/03/2003 08:39

Jessi,
I was really tempted to find out the sex, but the guessing game is actually quite fun. It does however mean that clothing wise I'm sticking to whites and neutrals and have to resist anything cute and pink or too boyish. As for names that's alot harder.

champs · 13/03/2003 14:48

Hi all, hope you are all well, I am also v. tired at the moment. Have the hearing at wrk on mon I am having a hard time and just found out company will only be paying me 2 weeks maternity leave as I have had quite abit of unpaid leave... considering I had to take time off because of stress at work that seems very unfair .... well I'll stop moaning and will talk to u all soon.... bye xxx

Hales · 16/03/2003 11:19

HI ! I am due July 8th with no 2 and so far all goes well...anyone know about the new rules concerning maternity leave and pay? I read that it is 26 weeks now instead of 18 ...but how fast does your pay go down and does it also apply to teachers?

Any info would be much appreciated!

AliP · 21/03/2003 21:31

Hi - Can I join in. I've only just joined Mumsnet. I'm due with baby no 1 11th June - I'm probably being thick but can anyone translate all the initials used for me - I'm getting very confused with dd, ds etc!

As for the new maternity rights - if your EDD is 4th April or later you are entitled to 26 weeks off, I think you get the SMP (Dependant on lenght of employment & salary for all this time) plus whatever your company gives you.

cheers

woozle · 21/03/2003 23:40

Hi Ali P. I won't crash this thread - it will only make me yearn for another baby!

I have managed to translate some of the abbreviations that seem to be specific to mums net. DH is dear/darling husband, DS would be son and so on.

Most discussion board abbreviations are standard. Have a look at www.bbc.co.uk/radio4/archers/info/mb_faqs_2.shtml#3

Sorry - couldn't get the automatic link to work. It's now 11.30 and I'm too tired to play around with it anymore!

I am having the same problem re. sleeping position. Just can't seem to get comfy anywhere in the bed. Maybe should get my very own Fabrizio!!!

Bears · 28/03/2003 21:44

I'm nearly 23 wks pg now. Scan was okay but didn't ask about baby's sex, mainly in support of dh who is more keen that me about waiting 'til the birth.

I'm so sure I'm carrying a little brother for ds. It's heartbeat is slower than ds, can't imagine myself with a daughter, patterns of activity are similar to ds & I heard on the news yesterday that they reckon October is the month when more boys are conceived than in any other month (April for girls). That would apply to quite a few of us here I think, so it'd be interesting if most of us have boys this summer(?). I don't mind what I have BTW! At least we've finally settled on names.

Does anyone else find it strange when people ask 'do you want a girl or a boy?' (I just want a healthy, happy child - thanks!). Maybe I'm alone in this, but I think it's a v personal, inappropriate question which I never ask anybody. I even had people asking me during my 1st pregnancy.

I'm definitely a lot bigger this time than last at 23 wks. What will I look/feel like in July? I had a helper at toddler group ask me how far gone I was the other day, when I told her 'just over 1/2 way, her reply was 'ooooh' - glancing at my huge belly at the same time. I guess that's the polite way of saying 'cor, you're big enough now aren't you?'!

I'm still sleeping fairly well, except for the dawn chorus about 5am! (Sorry, u lovely sounding birdies, just a tad too early 4 us humans) Ds is moving to a bed next week - I'll have to be prepared for him waking us up v early too.

Bye for now.

Bevi · 01/04/2003 14:32

I am 28 weeks, due 23rd June - this is my second baby but as dd is 7 years old it feels like I am doing it all for the first time! I definitely don't remember feeling so exhausted last time. I am zonked in bed by 9.30! Can anyone offer advice on a naming problem - if we have another dd we like the name Isabel/Isabelle, but can't decide which way to spell it, we like both of the above spellings. What does anyone else think? Opinions would be gratefuly accepted!!

kaz33 · 01/04/2003 16:18

How are all the summer babes getting on ? - I'm due on 31 May so not quite sure which thread to hi-jack.

Now 31+4 and starting to feel it - back ache, trouble sleeping - just remembered how tough the last bit is. Up until now been feeling rather smug by my lack of pregnancy ailments.

Jzee · 01/04/2003 16:41

I'm 24 weeks due on the 14th July. Phew I'm not the only one in bed by around 9.30pm never thought I'd be such a party pooper! Trying to walk each day as much as possible, but that's not easy.I feel a bit like time is running out and I need to get so much done before the big arrival. Also can't decide on a name especially if it's a boy - Don't want to refer to is as 'it' for the first week.

sharonlee · 02/04/2003 03:59

Hello Bevi,
I am also 28 weeks this week, due 21th June we are also nameing our baby Isabelle, I do like the spelling Isabelle. To me it looks like a girls name more.
Take care

Rkayne · 02/04/2003 07:37

Hi. Just wanted to pop in and say hello. Baby number 2 is due June 28 - although I'm hoping he's early! And yes, it is a HE, scan confirmed it a few weeks ago.

Feeling tired adn have a sore back but otherwise doing well.
Good luck to all the other mums-to-be as well.

mum2toby · 02/04/2003 07:54

Sharonlee and Bevi - That's my Mums name, but it's spelled Isobel... and her Mums name is Isabella. I'm not pregnant unfortunately ... not 'allowed' another until next year, but just wanted to comment on those lovely names.

Bevi · 02/04/2003 10:43

Thanks for the advice! Am just taking a break from baking fairy cakes. I have a need to eat sponge cake today. Well every day actually! Maybe that's why I have put on a horrific amount of weight. I can see that Evans will be my favourite shop after the birth.

champs · 08/04/2003 16:46

Hi all!! Bevi, I think Isabelle is nice. I am feeling better than my last post. I had my birthday on 6th April and feel good!! At 22wks I feel that I should be past the nausea, vomiting and tired stage, but NO!! heehee I had my scan last week but have to have another one in 8wks time as baby's heart and kidneys wasn't visable enough for in depth study. I am looking forward to it as baby will be bigger then and I will get to see more. I was in hospital 3 wks ago which is why I haven't posted sooner. Well I'll stop chatting now, I do go on don't I Hope all are well, speak to you all soon, Champs xxx

WideWebWitch · 08/04/2003 16:51

Bevi, sorry to push into this thread but please do let me know what it's like with such a big gap - my ds will be 6 and 2 months when my 2nd arrives in November. I feel like it's the first time too since I don't remember last time very well. Anyway, interested to know what it's like for other people with such a big gap. Baking fairy cakes? I am impressed!

kaz33 · 12/05/2003 08:52

Here you go happyspider. When are you due ?

I'm due on 30th May. Today is my first day of maternity leave - gosh its easier to get up in the morning when you don't have to go to work.

Got lots of projects to do but also intending to treat myself - any good films that I should go and see why I still have the chance ???

happyspider · 12/05/2003 15:37

Hi all
I am due 7th of June, I have put on three stone so far and have gone up a few dress sizes of course, but what really freaked me out was that I am now a size 8... but only as far as my feet are concerned and used to be 6 and half! Hope this is only temporary.
I am a first time mum-to-be and I am still working and will be working till the end of the month if I can, any tip if I go into labour in the office??
Baby's not always very active, so that has been a bit of a worry for me during the last ten weeks or so, frequent scans reveal everything is fine fortunately.
I have been advised on mumsnet that mars bars and prodding make him move, so I have tried following religiously the advice and baby normally obliges.
oh.. and I am really looking forward to meeting my little one!

happyspider · 12/05/2003 15:40

Hi Kaz33, have you seen Adaptation? I really liked it! It's a bit weird but keeps you interested till the end.
Also Far from Heaven is a good movie, but take your hankie with you as I cried non stop... and of course now I cry even more.

Dahlia · 12/05/2003 15:53

Hi HappySpider, I had already seen this thread but it was started ages ago. I sympathise with you over the baby movement worry - I was worried because I was hardly feeling anything compared to DD who kicked all the time and did that weird alien thing with her hands where you could see the outline of them pushing outwards! So I went to the hospital and they had a feel and said ooh baby feels small for your dates, so I panicked even more, then they scanned me and said ooh, baby is actually slightly above average size, but we're worried about the lack of amniotic fluid. So I had to go back 4 weeks later for another scan (was kept waiting 3 hours altogether and was fuming) and when they scanned me, baby was happily doing the front crawl whilst an Armada sailed by and dolphins leapt for joy. ie there was loads of sodding fluid and they needn't have panicked me. I do wish they would keep things to themselves unless they are absolutely certain there is a problem. At least he/she is moving a bit more now.

kaz33 · 12/05/2003 21:12

Hi, first day off work was great - bit odd as nanny is looking after DS. (Shes staying for a month after my due date - just to ease me into 2under2land ). But huge treat, I cleared out some rather cluttered cupboards and then went to the cinema this afternoon - "I capture the castle", had a bit of a weep in the cinema. Nothing specail but it was great to have a bit of time and freedom. Happyspider you won't yet know that feeling!!

Starting to think it would be nice if baby is late so that I can continue to ponce around as a lady of leisure....

Bron and Happyspider - i was so knackered by the end at work. I'm amazed at how much energy I suddenly have, that work stuff is not conducive to good health...
