I'm planning on going along to a local breastfeeding group at some point, for the same reasons as you guys have said in that I don't have any immediate contacts with babies so I want to make sure she is getting company. We also had a wee WhatsApp group set up from our midwife for a few mums due in July so we're planning on meeting up sometime this month too. I'm not good meeting new people but definitely feel this is something I need to push myself in otherwise it will be a long year off work!

Mattieandmummy · 06/08/2022 08:05

I've met a few Mums through an app called peanut. It's quite useful because people put in the ages of their children and if they're on maternity leave, where they live, interests etc. Maybe try that?

annie1994 · 06/08/2022 08:36

@SamanthaVimes how you finding having a toddler and a newborn? My DS1 is nearly 2 and DS2 is 6 weeks πŸ˜… luckily my mum has helped a lot with my toddler as he doesn’t go to nursery yet - he starts pre school next month tho.
I don’t know about you but some days are absolute sh*tshows πŸ˜‚

DrPrincessFluffyToYou · 06/08/2022 09:18

I’m with everyone on baby either sleeping, feeding or fussing (I assume mostly trying to poo - she does about 3 big ones a day and little smears in every nappy!!!)

@paintfairy agreed! Feel like a new human if I get 3 hours of uninterrupted sleep! I thought night shifts might have prepared me, but this is an entirely different beast!

@SamanthaVimes I'm in the same position with groups…they all seem to be shut til September! I went on a mummy walk that was locally advertised but nobody else turned up! I messaged the group and they said everyone is off for summer. I did go to a (not local enough - 1hr by train door to door) breastfeeding group which was AMAZING but just too far to go weekly. Can’t wait til local ones open up.

@annie1994 i don’t know how you cope with a toddler AND a newborn! Well done!

@Lianna93 congratulations on weaning the shields! We’re still very much reliant on them sadly 😭 would be ok if her hungry hands would be less involved.

SamanthaVimes · 06/08/2022 09:40

@annie1994 some says it’s fine and other days it’s a complete mess!
I’m currently feeding her mini cheddars and watching the lion king for a few minutes peace so definitely not my toddler A game πŸ˜‚.
Might take her to the library later for some easy entertainment (if DS will have a long enough break between feeds)

Baby didn’t fancy sleeping last night so DH has taken him out before I lose patience with him
(not the baby’s fault obviously but nothing I did helped, he probably needs a big poo or something equally disgusting but I just wanted to lie down!)

KizboBaggins · 06/08/2022 13:06

Went to bed at 10.15 last night after a marathon feeding session - I had just dropped off into a peaceful sleep when I was awoken by the silhouette of DH shuffling nervously towards the bed as he tentatively muttered those dreaded words ... "he's hungry"... the devastation was real πŸ˜‚ luckily after that feed he slept from 11 til 3.30am, so I can't complain really (but I will!)

@DrPrincessFluffyToYou @SamanthaVimes It's weird that a lot of the groups are shut until September. Where are you guys based? Seems really odd!

@Mattieandmummy I had a look at peanut but I didn't really get it - do you literally just message people who you like the look of?! Like Tinder for mums...?! πŸ˜‚

annie1994 · 06/08/2022 13:31

@SamanthaVimes haha I’m with you on that! Some days I feel like I have my life together then other days I’m barely keeping my head above water!!

Has everyone given birth now? Or is there any ladies still to go?

SamanthaVimes · 06/08/2022 13:36

@KizboBaggins I’m in Bristol. I think a lot of the groups are run by people with primary aged kids so they’re term time only (there are a few that aren’t but not convenient for me!).
Hoping to start Music with Mummy with my toddler in September though if I can convince MIL to watch the baby for 45 mins (I expect she’ll be thrilled!)
Probably will wait till the term after to do any classes with the little baby, I need to find some friends though so will have to do some!

Mattieandmummy · 06/08/2022 15:44

@KizboBaggins as far as I understand, you have to 'wave' at other Mums and if they wave back then you can message them or they can message you. It is basically tinder for Mums πŸ˜‚

Lianna93 · 06/08/2022 16:03

@DrPrincessFluffyToYou Persevere - you'll get there πŸ₯° I had many a meltdown over baby boy latching but once she finally got it, it's like it just clicked for her. It's still a challenge but almost every feed is without the shields now - feel like she's finally feeding better now too. We've been going through a phase where all she was getting was the foremilk, so she was just non stop feeding which was then followed by the most liquidy poops 😩

@Mattieandmummy Tinder for mums πŸ™ˆπŸ˜‚ I can't even imagine putting myself out there like that. Kudos to you for having the confidence to sign up though! I'm always in awe of people who can put themselves out there.
I'm a super private person - despite being able to share with you guys but I feel a sense of protection/privacy on this because I don't use my real name πŸ™ˆπŸ˜‚

@Lianna93 πŸ˜‚ if you knew me in real life you wouldn't think so! I am the shyest, quietest person around who would rather die than speak to anyone new but we moved to a new area where we only know my brother and SIL and I wanted my eldest daughter to have friends for playdates and so on so I made myself do it!

Lianna93 · 06/08/2022 16:58

@Mattieandmummy genuinely admire you so much for that!
I moved from my hometown end of 2020 & haven't even met my neighbours πŸ˜¬πŸ˜‚
But I'm definitely gonna have to put myself out there, purely for the sake of my daughter. But it's super scary - I like my little bubble πŸ™ˆπŸ˜‚

Made a peanut account then promptly deleted it because I'm a shitebag πŸ™ˆπŸ˜‚

@Lianna93 I joined Peanut a while ago but haven't really interacted with many people on it. I couldn't get my head around it, but I think you have to pay to access all of the features on it. It also has some useful group forums though a bit like Mumsnet. It's a good idea but I find it hard to push myself onto people and I am also a shy person, definitely got to get over that and join some baby groups. The thought of being in a group and my baby screaming the place down is quite daunting to me right now, even though I know that will be quite common anyway in baby groups!

ChinChilly · 06/08/2022 21:06

@Lianna93 @ShellUK09 I’m exactly the same I feel awkward meeting new people. I haven’t even looked at any baby groups yet!

I think missy must be having a growth spurt she’s just sunk 8oz in 2 hours! She was screaming the place down and I thought surely she cannot be hungry she had only had a 4 oz bottle an hour before after trying everything I did her another bottle and she drank the lot. OH is taking his brother to the airport across the country tonight, he’ll be gone 1am-5am so I’m feeling nervous for my first solo night 😳

SamanthaVimes · 06/08/2022 21:12

@ChinChilly I’m sure you’ll smash it, understand why you’re nervous though, all the β€œfirsts” can be quite daunting (I’m dreading taking my two out by myself properly, had them for 10 minutes in a shop earlier whilst DH was picking out some plants for the garden and it felt like 10 years)

KizboBaggins · 06/08/2022 21:19

@ChinChilly @SamanthaVimes I took the baby and the dog round the block for the first time the other day - it felt like the single most daunting thing I'd ever done. It's crazy how your perception of the simplest tasks changes when you have a baby. (It's also crazy how hard it is to navigate parked cars on the pavement with a pram and a labrador...)

Blythwind · 07/08/2022 07:03

Hi allIm sorry ive not read all the thread. My baby girl arrived dramatically at 5 weeks premature. I'm feeling a bit lost and overwhelmed, and wondered if there was a july/August Facebook group I could join please?I'm in a September one already, but feeling rather removed from that now that's she's here and no others are. Thanks x

Mattieandmummy · 07/08/2022 09:08

Congratulations on your little girl @Blythwind! Hope you are both ok xx

Mattieandmummy · 07/08/2022 09:11

@ChinChilly you'll be great, honest. I took both DDs to Tesco's yesterday, literally made my toddler run around the shop like a deranged mad woman whilst praying the baby wouldn't wake up πŸ˜‚

missv556 · 07/08/2022 09:36

I've yet to do a solo outing but I know I need to be brave and do it soon

ChinChilly · 07/08/2022 10:19

@SamanthaVimes @KizboBaggins @Mattieandmummy thanks all, it went ok! Up at 1:30 for a feed back down within the hour then up at again about 5:30. These firsts definitely feel daunting. I dunno how you guys do it with toddlers aswell!
@KizboBaggins how did the dog walk go? I haven’t attempted a dog walk yet OH has been taking him out for his walks.

@Blythwind congratulations! It is all abit overwhelming but I guess all FTM feel like that, that’s what I keep telling myself anyway. Not sure about the Facebook group..sorry

I had the appointment come through for babies first vaccinations next month 😭 it makes me feel sad but I’m sure she isn’t going to be bothered she’s been poked and prodded so much in the hospital she probs won’t even notice

KizboBaggins · 07/08/2022 11:01

@ChinChilly the dog walk was ok! We went again this morning, much easier when the streets are quieter. Haven't ventured anywhere where I can take the dog off lead yet - waiting until the baby is big enough to fit in the sling. He needs to be 7lb 14oz - he was 7lb 10 at his 2 week HV check but he doesn't get weighed again until 6 weeks... gonna assume he's big enough in the next few weeks though. I think they put on like 5-8oz a week?

Did you HV recommend getting paracetamol for after their vaccinations? Mine did, but he'll only be 6 weeks and the Calpol is for 2+ months so I don't know whether to risk it

Mattieandmummy · 07/08/2022 11:51

@KizboBaggins I'd check with your GP to be sure

Mattieandmummy · 07/08/2022 11:51

About the Calpol/ paracetamol I meant
