@Mattieandmummy yeah good idea. Not sure how I didn't think of that πŸ™„

ShellUK09 · 07/08/2022 12:14

Yesterday we had a terrible day of bad wind after every feed and there was a lot of screaming... I don't know why it is suddenly an issue but we just seem to get her settled and over the wind and it is time for the next feed! I'm wondering if her growth spurt is making her more cranky? I'm sure she is in the middle of one, I swear her feet look bigger all of a sudden and she is filling the Moses basket more! She slept well last night anyway as she had been awake most of the day. My mum has suggested gripe water, has anyone tried this and had success?

DayToNight · 07/08/2022 12:49

@ShellUK09 we tried gripe water with DS1 when he was a baby. I don't think it did much. I ended up doing lots of baby massage and giving him diluted camomile tea. For us it was all developmental and he grew out of it. Found he slept best on his tummy too which we encouraged when he could roll.

SamanthaVimes · 07/08/2022 13:55

@KizboBaggins double check that they’ve booked the appointment right. I’m 99% sure they have to be at least 8 weeks to have the vaccines. I don’t want you to have a wasted trip!

Maybe that appointment is for your 6 week check?

They definitely need the calpol after the first jabs as the meningitis one usually gives them a bit of a temperature. With DD we had to give 3 doses (not all together but after the 4-6 hour gap!)

We found it a massive pain getting her to take it so hoping this one is more cooperative πŸ˜…

strawberrysummer19 · 07/08/2022 14:32

Can anyone recommend a decent sling ?

There seems to be so many on the market it's so hard to pick one

It's for my FiancΓ© who wants to use one
I tried one with my first and didn't get on with it but he really wants one

Thank you x

CaptainCarp · 07/08/2022 15:28

Just catching up with the thread.

@Blythwind congratulations on your baby! Hope all is well now.
Don't know if there is a facebook group but there's a lot of shared experiences on this thread. Don't worry if it's been asked/spoken about already.

@KizboBaggins seconding SamanthaVimes are you sure they are doing vaccinations at 6 weeks?
I tried to book my 6week check & my doctors do it all at 8 weeks so you don't have to make 2 journeys. They do mine & babys check then you go to the nurse to have the vaccines.

I got a letter from childrens health with an appointment for the day before the 1 I'd booked & an a letter from my GP saying to ignore it πŸ˜‚

ChinChilly · 07/08/2022 15:45

@KizboBaggins I would of thought he would be big enough soon. I’m not sure I could juggle a pushchair and the dog atm so I’m well impressed! I would also double check your appointment I’ve got a post natal check at 6 weeks (over the phone) then baby’s injections when she is 8 & 1/2 weeks

KizboBaggins · 07/08/2022 15:49

@SamanthaVimes @ChinChilly @CaptainCarp yep. Just checked the letter again. It's 6 week check up with a "view to starting him on the childhood immunisation program" so maybe they mean they'll book the jabs after that! I swear my brain isn't right after this baby πŸ˜‚

@SamanthaVimes have you used that sling with your newborn already? I'm paranoid about him being too small but tbf that one does say from 2kg and he was 3.3kg at birth so I'm guessing it'll be fine

Coco9910 · 07/08/2022 15:54

I had my little girl yesterday morning after a 32 hour labour that ended in a category 1 emergency c section. So have been left a little shaken by it but just so happy to have my healthy 7lb3oz baby girl πŸ’•

KizboBaggins · 07/08/2022 15:55

@Coco9910 congratulations! Hope you are recovering and resting and baby girl is doing well πŸ₯°

CaptainCarp · 07/08/2022 16:21

@ChinChilly congratulations on doing your 1st solo night. Not sure how I'd feel with DP being away at night! Don't know why as he (usually) sleeps whilst I do everything at the moment & I'm alone days when he's at work but it feels different.

@strawberrysummer19 I have the caboo+organic for now which is a soft cloth 1 & can be used from newborn to 14.5kg.
Then I have a tula carrier for when she's bigger. I got it second hand & got told its a popular brand.

Baby slept for nearly 5hrs the other night & I woke with a start at 4hrs then spent the next 30/40 mins waiting for her to wake up full of adrenaline. I honestly thought something was wrong with her when I woke & realised the time she'd been asleep πŸ™ˆ
It's not a constant thing unfortunately.

@ShellUK09 I've had a windy baby quite a few days this week. I also think she's having a growth spurt as she's was very fussy / feeding loads earlier in the week. It made my boobs feel like they were going to explode & it was like I had an over supply.
I think she's also sucking in too much air whilst feeding which doesn't help as she's had a few green poos & the health visitor said it might be that or a bit of a stomach bug.
Putting her in the sling has helped a few times as she'll sleep as long as she's pretty much upright & also me moving around seemed to jiggle the wind out.

CaptainCarp · 07/08/2022 16:26

@Coco9910 congratulations on your baby girl!
I can imagine you're worn out after that. Hopefully you are able to rest & enjoy your new baby!

SamanthaVimes · 07/08/2022 16:34

@KizboBaggins yeah I’ve used it with him already, not sure how much he weighs now but he was 4.1kg at 10 days so I’m assuming he’s a bit more than that now and he doesn’t feel small in it

kiwi17 · 07/08/2022 17:46

Just in case people were interested there is an app called the Wonderweeks which tells you about when baby is about to go through developmental leaps - we are due to start one in the next couple of days and it makes them quite fussy which could explain why some of the babies are being fussy! We used it with DD1 and it was always pretty accurate at explaining fussy periods plus it's interesting to read about what they are learning 😊

We tried gripe water last time and same as pp I don't remember it doing anything πŸ˜‚ infacol was another one..

ChinChilly · 07/08/2022 19:50

@CaptainCarp I know exactly what you means the night feels daunting for some reason.

well missy has done nothing but cry and eat today!! I’m absolutely drained and that’s with OHs help.. hats off to all you breastfeeding mommas and the single moms. I felt like joining in with the crying at one point .. Praying for a better day tomorrow 🀞🏼

SamanthaVimes · 07/08/2022 20:29

I’m another one with a fussy baby today. I actually did cry last night when he just would. Not. Sleep.

He’s been feeding non stop since about 5 o clock this afternoon and in the small gaps in between is absolutely furious. I think I remember DD having a bit of a growth spurt at 3 weeks and he’s 3 weeks tomorrow so right on time.

I’m so fucking tired 😒

AppleTree16 · 07/08/2022 20:55

My HV and the nurse (she took my blood during pregnancy and we chatted vaccinations) both said it’s fine to give Calpol for vaccinations but not for any other reason pre 8 months (without medical advice).

AppleTree16 · 07/08/2022 20:56

Sorry 2 months!! //8 weeks. Baby brain.

ShellUK09 · 07/08/2022 22:09

@CaptainCarp ah I must try the sling next, that sounds like a game changer for wind. Haven't even took my sling (Ergobaby embrace) out of the box yet as been waiting for her to get to the weight for it. The instructions look complicated, and I bought it as it looked easy to use! Will watch a video of how to put it on instead on YouTube.

@Coco9910 many congratulations! That sounds so rough having a labour that long, but it's over now thankfully and enjoy getting to know your little girl πŸ™‚

@DayToNight thank you for the advice! We have started doing a bit of tummy time so that might help the wind too. Hope they grow out of this fast as the wind feels relentless sometimes.

@SamanthaVimes I know how you feel, all I've done for the last few days is try to prevent the red face and piercing scream.
A dummy is a lifesaver at times! I'm at the 6 week growth spurt and it has been a killer. Hopefully yours will be so exhausted after a busy day feeding they will sleep a bit more tonight.

KizboBaggins · 08/08/2022 07:17

Funny how when you're pregnant people tell you about the constant feeding and the sleep deprivation and the poop but not one person mentioned to me the goddamn wind and the squirming and grunting and thrashing ALL NIGHT LONG ... it makes me feel so helpless cause no matter what I do sometimes he just has to push through it himself

@SamanthaVimes hope you got some sleep last night!

strawberrysummer19 · 08/08/2022 07:30

@KizboBaggins I've just come on here to post about the exact same thing!

Last few days my lo seems uncomfortable and doesn't settle as easy, wakes sooner from her sleep and makes noises all night! Last night was particularly restless especially after her last feed at 3am and another at 5am

I'm not sure if it's worth trying Infacol today?
I do have some but just don't know I'm what to do

It's hard enough having a newborn let alone seeing her in discomfort

Or is it worth calling GP? Been signed off from midwife's now so not sure what to do

She hasn't really cried up until now - it's not constant but some points in the day

X

KizboBaggins · 08/08/2022 08:19

@strawberrysummer19 same here - he was up at 12, 1, 4 and 5 😴 he doesn't cry (yet) but he's clearly uncomfortable and tbf he had two poos during the night, which he doesn't normally - so I'm guessing that's what it was

I asked my HV and she said it's normal, but if you're concerned I would ask GP. Looks like Infacol can be used from birth, so I don't see the harm in trying it?

Some days are worse than others but if I notice it getting worse I will try Infacol too I think

HV said it will calm down around 3 months... so only 10 weeks to go πŸ‘πŸΌπŸ˜¬

strawberrysummer19 · 08/08/2022 08:27

@KizboBaggins mine doesn't cry loads just little episodes but as you have described clearly uncomfortable

That's reassuring to know, I remember getting that advice and I think they just have to push through it like you say.

I'll keep an eye and see how she goes.

Now she's just had a feed and soundo so not consistent.

Only 2.5 weeks in so just think it takes time for their digestive system to get used to things

My first was so unsettled from the beginning and we changed her milk loads and questioned milk intolerance/ reflux but when we started weanjng it disappeared but it could have just been time maybe x

ChinChilly · 08/08/2022 08:40

@KizboBaggins @strawberrysummer19 we’ve had a few episodes of that it’s mainly in the evening around 6-9pm and then she tends to start thrashing around for abit before she’s due a feed. She must of worn herself out yesterday with the constant screaming and feeding. I gave her abit of a dream feed as she was stirring at 10, then 2.45, 5:45 she woke for a feed which OH did and back to sleep…still asleep!

But yep nobody tells you about that bit…I’ve seen something about active sleep though..definitely not that?

Amelia developed a little rash on her face yesterday it looks like a little sweat rash, they look like little yellow heads. It looks better today but not sure whether to call the doctors or not I’m seeing the midwife on Wednesday so may mention it then. I had a look on the NHS website and it looks exactly like one of the pics and it says it just goes away on its own without treatment.
