@KizboBaggins not dread as such but I do start to worry a bit about how much sleep I'm going to get!

@SamanthaVimes DP works with dangerous machinery so I try to do all the night wakings as I would worry about him going to work tired & fixing the machines!
@DrPrincessFluffyToYou I think I might look into pumping & get DP to do the 4/5am feed though as he is awake then to get ready for work.

paintfairy · 03/08/2022 22:45

Glad to see people are having similar issues! I'm also struggling with latch and I've got someone coming next Wednesday to have a look. My left nipple is sore and so feeding from that is agony. I'm trying not to and just using the haakaa instead. She will drink from a bottle. We are also having low down wind issues that results in screaming fits at least once a day.

CatMumFTM22 · 04/08/2022 00:34

Hi all, I've been a bit absent from here as we welcomed our baby boy James 2 weeks ago! Scheduled C-section & he spent his first few nights on earth in the NICU as he had fluid in his lungs (we found out later this is common with C-sections)

We are completely smitten with him & he's (mostly) a good boy! Only gets really upset when we don't feed him quickly enough lol.

@CatMumFTM22 wow congratulations! Glad to hear he is being a good boy πŸ’•

I've just been trimming my baby's fingernails with tiny scissors from Boots, at 2:30am... Think all the sleep deprivation is driving me slightly mad! It's strangely satisfying doing their nails, I had been scared to trim them but it was fine and stops her scratching her face when wearing a short sleeve vest. Right off to try and settle baby again for an hour or two of sleep if I'm lucky🀞

CaptainCarp · 04/08/2022 04:45

@CatMumFTM22 congratulations on the birth of your baby boy!

Glad he's out of NICU & you are settling in.

@ShellUK09 fingers crossed you get some sleep. Fingernails sre not the easiest to do but it's a lot better when they can't gouge you!

ShellUK09 · 04/08/2022 05:18

@CaptainCarp yes glad I've sorted the sharp nails anyway. Thanks, unfortunately it's been a bad night and she just won't settle. She has just calmed down about now, and now I'm fully awake. I wonder if this is the start of the 6 week growth spurt I've read about? She is more clingy than usual and just wants to be held all the time. I'll have to try and sleep today, a friend from work was going to pop round to see me today too, great!

missv556 · 04/08/2022 07:02

@Lianna93 I'm always amused by the farts that come out of my little one πŸ˜‚ so loud for such a small person. I did figure his wind was going south because he doesn't burp much.
And I trimmed one fingernail 2 days ago. For some reason only the one grew long enough to trim. With the others, they've been coming away on their own and I've been able to just peel them off tbh

Mattieandmummy · 04/08/2022 20:02

Just catching up, sorry to hear people having a struggle with latching. Keep going though, once you and baby have got it, it's much much easier.

Having said that mine has had a tight jaw and such a tight latch - flipping painful. Apparently it can happen with c section babies and that added to not really gaining weight has been a bit worrying but she's finally made her birth weight and her jaw has loosened so hopefully we're out of the woods.

Also have a right trumper over here, vibrating nappy is a daily thing!

missv556 · 05/08/2022 07:36

So I had the absolute worst night of my life last night. Baby woke up at 7pm from a nap. I was like brilliant he'll stay awake a couple of hours and then be tired for bedtime around 9-10. Wrong. He wouldn't settle and would scream bloody murder if he didn't have boob. He would sleep for about 5 mins max. But he drank so much milk he puked for the first time which was absolutely terrifying to me. Anyway we continued on this cycle of feed, sleep for 5 mins, wake, scream until almost 5am. I've had just about 2 hours of sleep. God it was awful

ShellUK09 · 05/08/2022 09:07

@missv556 sorry to hear you have had a bad night. I had the worst night (and day) of my life the other night, to give you some hope the next night was completely different and last night she slept really well and I woke up surprised that I was feeling refreshed for once! I think they go through several growth spurts and this can unsettle them for a day or so. She wouldn't even let me put her down for a minute the other day and just wanted to be held all day, if I did put her down she screamed the house down! She is sat in her bouncer right now quite happily so I'm hoping this is a sign of a good day. Just got to take it a day at a time right now, hope you are able to catch up on some sleep later today

DrPrincessFluffyToYou · 05/08/2022 10:09

@CaptainCarp i was thinking about pumping but worried about introducing a bottle until she has a good latch on the breast…so hard isn’t it!

@missv556 mine often wakes herself up with the the forcefulness of her farts πŸ˜‚

@ShellUK09 I echo what you say - on Monday we had an unprecedented FIVE HOURS of solid sleep. I woke up feeling soo refreshed. Then last night back to every 1-2 hours. I just cling onto hope that the general trajectory is for longer stretches

paintfairy · 05/08/2022 13:50

@missv556 I've had nights from hell with trapped wind but never feeding for that long. We have had 4 hour or so stints though. Exhausting.
@DrPrincessFluffyToYou its amazing when you manage longer stints odd times. You feel like a new person. 🀣 Yet it's still far less sleep than you need! πŸ€¦β€β™€οΈ

Mine hasn't pooed for days and now has had 2 massive ones this morning. 🀒 Not sure how they stayed in the nappy! 🀣

SamanthaVimes · 05/08/2022 14:04

@paintfairy we’ve had lots of trapped wind here too, it’s so annoying and obviously makes them really uncomfortable poor things

On a separate note, is anyone else getting mega night sweats? I literally wake up like I’ve done 2 hours in the gym, it’s disgusting!

KizboBaggins · 05/08/2022 14:14

@SamanthaVimes yep huge night sweats. And I haven't been able to wash my hair in days so I currently resemble Stig of the Dump, and I'm fully embracing it.

Does anyone else feel like when baby is awake they're either feeding, or just squirming and grunting like they're uncomfortable? He's just over 2 weeks so he's not awake for long at a time but he just seems to have so much wind. Can't cuddle him when he's squirmy and doesn't seem to comfort him anyway. I just don't know how to help the poor mite. He doesn't cry, he's just uncomfortable I think.

Feels a long time until I see the HV again to ask them. It's so hard to know what is normal.

SamanthaVimes · 05/08/2022 15:04

@KizboBaggins yep, mine is 2.5 weeks old and he’s either asleep, feeding or uncomfortable trying to burp / poo. He spends maybe 10 minutes a day awake and not complaining or feeding.
I swap between feeding, the β€œwonky winding” position and bicycle legs if I can’t work out what his issue is. Really makes me appreciate my toddler being able to tell us what her problem is!

KizboBaggins · 05/08/2022 15:25

@SamanthaVimes that genuinely makes me feel so much better knowing it's not just my little one lol. I'm sure it'll get easier as he's awake more 🀞🏼 I don't know how you're doing it with a toddler and a baby! It's hard enough with a baby and a labrador lol

SamanthaVimes · 05/08/2022 15:43

@KizboBaggins I’m very, very lucky in that we’ve been able to keep the toddler in nursery and my husband is still off work for a few more weeks.

The c section recovery is so much worse than the vaginal birth I had with DD, so I’m glad I’ve got the extra help!

Lianna93 · 05/08/2022 16:04

Congratulations @CatMumFTM22 on the birth of your baby boy πŸ₯°

My little one is about to hit her 3 week growth spurt & it's starting to show. The fussiness & clingyness is something else. If she isn't feeding, she's screaming the place down & once she's asleep, if I dare put her down, she'll wake up almost immediately 😩 Gonna have start putting her in the sling so I can at least move about with her.
On a positive note though, we're doing much better with breastfeeding. Only used the shields once over the past 24 hours & that was during the night feed because it was too dark to see what I was doing properly & I wanted to minimise the screaming so DH could sleep πŸ™ˆπŸ˜‚

Has anyone thought about or has already joined groups? I was thinking of joining my local breastfeeding group... but yknow, social anxiety πŸ™„πŸ˜‚

OP posts:
SamanthaVimes · 05/08/2022 16:19

@Lianna93 I’m looking at joining some groups but annoyingly the ones closest are shut over the summer and because I can’t drive I don’t think I’ll make it to any until September

SamanthaVimes · 05/08/2022 16:23

Can’t drive until 6 weeks I mean!

Lianna93 · 05/08/2022 16:26

@SamanthaVimes That's pretty rubbish that they're closed over the summer 😩

OP posts:
KizboBaggins · 05/08/2022 17:45

@Lianna93 I think I'm going to go to our local breastfeeding group next Friday. Right there with you on the social anxiety lol but I don't know any new mums at all, or really anyone locally where I live (this is DHs town) so I think it's important that I try 😬 I figure it I don't like it I don't have to go back!

ChinChilly · 05/08/2022 17:47

@KizboBaggins mine is just over 2 weeks and can be the same, like she is really frustrated.

Anybody else dreading the weather next week, 29 degrees where we are and I’m worrying abit about how to keep baby cool 😐

Lianna93 · 05/08/2022 18:12

@KizboBaggins I'm exactly the same, moved to my wee town almost 2 years ago but haven't met anyone locally but figured I probably should since this is where my little one will go to school so may as well start making the connections now πŸ€·πŸ»β€β™€οΈ

OP posts:
paintfairy · 05/08/2022 20:02

@Lianna93 @KizboBaggins with you on the social anxiety. 🀣
@ChinChilly don't tell me that about the weather! Noooo. πŸ™ˆ
@SamanthaVimes I feel more normal today but since birth I've been permanently boiling and sweating all the time. Must be a thing? Just glad it's not actually hot.
