Haha, my MIL has my husband's cord in his baby album, it gives me the absolute boak! Not a chance baby's will be going anywhere other than in the bin whenever it falls off! How long did that take for you guys?

That makes sense about temporarily lifting the rule, it seems a lot of pressure to put on parents to do when actually the block sits somewhere else!

ShellUK09 · 02/08/2022 14:18

My daughter's cord fell off after about 2 weeks, and then maybe after another week the scab dropped off. My partner threw the cord nub in the washing machine by accident with her dirty clothes! Just binned it after that, not that I had wanted to keep it anyway! It takes a while to dry out completely. Baby is 5 weeks today and now it finally looks like a normal belly button πŸ™‚ @NamelessBaby1 yeah can't imagine keeping the cord in an album! It is fascinating to see the cord initially but I still wouldn't keep it!

I live in the north east and we had to go to the neighbouring council and do a declaration for registration as there was a long backlog at our council and I was worried about not doing it in time. They certainly don't make it easy to register births these days!

ChinChilly · 02/08/2022 14:28

@NamelessBaby1 oh god no.. I could not do that πŸ˜‚ Amelia is 2 weeks old tomorrow and it’s hanging on for dear life so hopefully it’ll drop off in the next day or 2.

@ShellUK09 can’t believe your little one is 5 weeks already… the time flys.

Crazy how most councils seem to be struggling with registrations, we struggled to register my grandads death aswell.

Is anybody putting any sort of moisturiser on baby, HV mentioned coconut oil, her skin sometimes looks abit dry which I know is normal just wondering if it’s uncomfortable

paintfairy · 02/08/2022 14:55

Our cord dropped off after 6 days. It still keeps weeping though slightly, then dries up again. But it's much better now that big horrible clip is off. I was stressed about catching it. Still sweating..... πŸ₯΅πŸ€£

KizboBaggins · 02/08/2022 15:02

@ChinChilly my HV suggested coconut oil too - I just don't know which one to get lol, there's loads of options. I've only bathed him once but he is a bit dry so going to order some as soon as I decide on one

@NamelessBaby1 my baby's cord came off on day 5! My DH came running in while I was napping holding it in his hand, he was absolutely delighted πŸ˜… it definitely makes nappy changes easier when it's gone

Is anyone doing tummy time? If so, how are you doing it and how long for?

It feels as though my boy is only interested in food when he's awake - if I fed him then put him on his belly he'd probs just fall asleep on his front. Can't work out when is best to do it. He's only 2 weeks old so don't know if he needs much of it yet. I burp him on my chest and he's always lifting his head up then (rooting for the boob ofc) so maybe that's enough

ChinChilly · 02/08/2022 15:06

@KizboBaggins I’m the same, not sure which one to use, may ask the midwife tomorrow… I’ll let you know what she says. I haven’t done any β€˜tummy time’ as such but I burp her on my chest and she is always lifting her head, head butted me this morning, I guess that’s enough for now

ChinChilly · 02/08/2022 15:08

Talking of the cord dropping off… just changed baby’s nappy…cord fell off 🀒 thank god for that

SamanthaVimes · 02/08/2022 16:57

@KizboBaggins we’re definitely not doing tummy time yet but he spends a lot of time on our shoulders / chest.
Anecdotally we never did it with DD until she was ready to crawl as her reflux was bad so she just screamed / vommed and she walked at 10 months so I’m not convinced it’s necessary, especially if they’re in the sling a lot

NamelessBaby1 · 02/08/2022 17:47

Lol good timing @ChinChilly ! I guess I can probably expect it to drop off at some point in the next few days then which is great!

My wee one keeps lifting her head too and also rolls it side on when sleeping, feel like that shouldn't be happening at 8 days old lol but at least she isn't just on the back of her head all the time.

I have been using a wee bit of moisturizer too as her hands were very flaky from being "overcooked"; I think it's a wee bottle of children's farm stuff I got as a free sample!

paintfairy · 02/08/2022 17:59

@NamelessBaby1 mine sleeps with her head to the side. Also can lift it to a degree! Bonkers.

ChinChilly · 02/08/2022 18:49

@NamelessBaby1 I was shocked when it just fell out of her vest when I changed her 🀒 sure the dog was eyeing it up as a snack.. horrid. Hopefully your LOs drops off in the next few days makes nappy changing more comfortable.

@NamelessBaby1 @paintfairy mine sleeps with her head to the side and she always pushes it to the side in her car seat it looks so uncomfortable. Also very head/neck strong over here.

JJ1992 · 03/08/2022 01:30

Our beautiful boy finally made an entrance today! (10 days late) we were on the list for induction but mum rocked up at the hospital 6cm dilated! All a bit of a blur and in the end needed a KIWI and some help removing the placenta. But currently overjoyed with my little boy ❀️ despite no sleep for last 4 nights i dont think ill be sleepiny tonight again.. Too busy staring at him ❀️

NamelessBaby1 · 03/08/2022 03:39

Congrats @JJ1992 ! I was 10 days late too, it's worth the wait though!! Enjoy your first night, I didn't sleep a wink either as I didn't want to put her in the cot so just sat holding her all night, lol. Are you still in hospital?

JJ1992 · 03/08/2022 06:27

@NamelessBaby1 definitely is worth it in the end ❀️

I need to say thanks to you girls for your frank and honest birth stories because it defintiely prepared me for a few of the twists and turns that came our way. Defintiely helped motivate me and it probably will continue to now that i go into the challenges of feeding etc.
@NamelessBaby1 in the end I put him. Down at 4 because i was so tired and was starting to dose... i felt like I couldve accidentally hurt him! Hes so alert just lay in his little crib watching whats going on πŸ₯° the benefits of a little late baby! Isnt it amazing what babies go through to get here then they just chill out afterwards!

ChinChilly · 03/08/2022 07:30

@JJ1992 congratulations!! Definitely worth the wait.

I think we’re going to have to stop using the prep machine it is making the bottles so foamy sometimes the test looks like it’s full of… back to the old school way for a bit I think

KizboBaggins · 03/08/2022 08:27

Congratulations @JJ1992 ! Enjoy your first full day with your little one πŸ₯°

strawberrysummer19 · 03/08/2022 08:34

@ChinChilly oh no that's a shame ! We have it but have been using cooled boiled water measuring out filling up the bottles then when she needs a feed adding the powder then warming through. My friend said to do it that way and it's works well.

I was planning on using the prep once she's upped her oz as she only does anything between 1-3 but maybe soon as she did
Two 3oz's last nights feeds

How does the prep work as in we've done a clean cycle so after that done we then fill the reservoir? X

KizboBaggins · 03/08/2022 08:57

Does anyone know anything about claiming child benefit? I'm trying to make myself useful this morning and as baby is registered thought I'd get this done.

The form says to include a birth certificate. It then also says "You do not need to send us a birth certificate if the child's birth was registered in England, Wales or Scotland." ... so I'm guessing I don't need to include a birth certificate? Clear as mud as always from the government πŸ™„

KizboBaggins · 03/08/2022 09:00

Ignore me... I've worked it out. Goddamn baby brain

ChinChilly · 03/08/2022 09:17

@strawberrysummer19 I boiled the kettle this morning, let it cool for 20 mins, added the powder then cooled it down in a jug of cold water, definitely took longer than the prep machine πŸ˜‚ gonna asked the midwife about the fridge method today which is apparently ok’d by the nhs.
Yeah just fill the tank with cold water and it will filter through.

@KizboBaggins i noticed that one the form πŸ˜‚ was like β€˜aye?’ I just shut the tab couldn’t be arsed with it not even registered her yet anyway lol

KizboBaggins · 03/08/2022 09:21

@ChinChilly useless aren't they... you don't need to include it though. If they're registered in Eng, Wal or Scot there's a section where you add a number from the birth certificate 😊

ChinChilly · 03/08/2022 09:40

@KizboBaggins I’m sure they do it on purpose to confuse people. Ahh that’s good to know thank you!

Fizzybubblegumbottles · 03/08/2022 10:02

@JJ1992 congratulations πŸ’™

@ChinChilly not sure if you’ve tried this but instead of shaking the bottle have you tried swirling it. I always swirl them and seem fine but I normally only use the prep at night/morning and do fresh bottles during the day. He is now on gaviscon for his reflux.

ChinChilly · 03/08/2022 10:37

@Fizzybubblegumbottles I have been swirling them today instead of shaking. What bottles are the bottle feeding mommas using? We’re currently using mam but thinking of trying dr browns to see if that helps

Fizzybubblegumbottles · 03/08/2022 10:48

@ChinChilly has it made a difference? Does she suffer from colic? Im using the mam anti colic ones
