@CaptainCarp yep we were getting one giant poonami every other day at one point she seems to have settled to once or twice a day and a much smaller amount. Also if it makes you feel any better I was up at 2/3/5 & 6:30 last night and naps have been shocking today…god love the sleep regression πŸ₯΄πŸ₯΄

CaptainCarp · 02/11/2022 19:12

@ChinChilly maybe it's her bowels/gut adjusting from pooing every couple of hours!
She's only doing a small 1 maybe 2 otherwise & generally goes overnight now without pooing which makes the waking easier as no nappy change.

Ouch! I think we had an early regression & the hourly / 1.5 hr wake ups lasted about a week. Fingers crossed it doesn't last too long for you.
Even 2hrs between is a lot better & we occasionally get up to 3hrs.

ShellUK09 · 02/11/2022 19:12

@Ejb505 yes really looking forward to our first Christmas and loving looking for presents. Ah brilliant idea, I love Etsy for ideas like that. So far I've bought a memory book which I need to start completing, it's something for when she is older but you can put things like scan photos in and other photos and memories from her first year πŸ₯° Also bought her some classic story books, a new pram suit, and got her some dumbo themed clothes as that will be the theme of her room, which isn't finished yet... I'll buy her some little toys too as you can't not buy toys at Christmas, although I bet she will get lots from family.

Does anyone have recommendations for good toys for 6 month olds? I was thinking of simple things like blocks or stackable cups, but as a first timer could do with some inspiration!

ShellUK09 · 02/11/2022 19:23

@CaptainCarp we did have poo's like that for about a week after she had her 16 week vaccinations. She is back to her usual mr whippy type poos now (sorry tmi!) and she does one a day. Keep an eye on it and go back to the GP if things don't seem right.

kiwi17 · 02/11/2022 19:25

@ShellUK09 from what I remember first time round at 6m dd enjoyed toys that made a noise and things she could put in her mouth πŸ˜‚ we loved matchstick monkey for chewing and rattles/shakers. I have bought ds a Bajo wobbling penguin for Christmas which I found second hand and that's probably all he'll get from us as I'm sure he'll get bits from others and he already has all his big sister's toys! This evening we were stacking plastic cups and knocking them down and it's the first proper giggle he's done.

ShellUK09 · 02/11/2022 19:37

@kiwi17 ah thanks for the ideas! Awww it's lovely when they giggle, so far my little one has giggled at her dad laughing and when my mum put a crinkly book on her tummy. It's the best sound in the world hearing them laugh. Ah simple pleasures, I think we need some stackable cups now rather than Christmas as I need more to keep her entertained!

ChinChilly · 02/11/2022 19:45

@CaptainCarp we’ve gone from pretty much 9-7 to 8-6 with multiple wake ups for about 2 weeks now and majorly fighting naps so I’m assuming it’s the sleep regression so I’m just riding it out and going with her flown she’s been danger napping for 2 hours so I’m in for it tonight I think

SamanthaVimes · 02/11/2022 21:06

@ShellUK09 some simple building blocks are a good idea. My mum got DD a lovely set that has different things on each side (eg animals, numbers, patterns) so you start off building towers and knocking them down for giggles but later on can use them to help speech, counting etc (can you find the lion block? etc etc)

books are always good. The β€œthat’s not my…” ones are pretty good and there are so many you’ll be able to find an animal you like πŸ˜… but also books that are β€œmy first words” type things with pictures / colours you can name. You can also get books with felt flaps that are a lot more robust that regular flap books (I have spot and dear zoo awaiting a repair from an overly enthusiastic baby moment, the felt ones are much harder to destroy). Anything that’s in the β€œlittle library” format as they’re easy for them to hold themselves when they start being able to turn pages

music toys, bells, drums shakers etc

ShellUK09 · 03/11/2022 06:39

@SamanthaVimes ah thank you, building blocks like that sound brilliant. Will have a look for some πŸ™‚ I have seen those 'that's not my...' books and they do look great! I'll look for any book that has things for her to lift and feel and look at. It's lovely getting to this fun stage of buying books and toys, feel like we are coming out the other side of the newborn trenches slightly. Thanks for the tips!

missv556 · 03/11/2022 10:31

Is it bad that I've just brought Β£150 worth of toys for Christmas? πŸ™ˆ I wasn't going to spend much cos he has no clue what will be going on but it's his first one and mummy wanted to spoil him. I got a few books (classics from my childhood such as dear zoo, the rainbow fish, elmer and the very hungry caterpillar) a door jumper, sorting blocks, stacking blocks, activity table, smartphone, game controller and balls for a playpen. My parents are getting a jumperoo and I'll get some clothes and that's it! Imagine how much he'll get for his first birthday 😳

ShellUK09 · 03/11/2022 12:38

@missv556 nah enjoy it! They only have one first Christmas after all πŸ™‚ it's lovely looking at books you read in your own childhood. I want to see if they still make the jolly postman to read with her for the future as that was my favourite book. I'm popping out to town later so will probably come back with some presents too. Thinking we might need to look for a good toy box too to put all these toys as family will also likely buy a lot for Christmas too!

CaptainCarp · 03/11/2022 13:45

@ChinChilly how was last night?
Sometimes I find we have a better night if baby sleeps for 1.5-2hrs in an evening downstairs.

I was prepared for a really bad night last night as she had her 3rd set of jabs (our area are a bit behind). Surprisingly she actually had a pretty good 1 slept for about 3.5hrs from 10-1:30... Then woke up boiling! Even woke up DP with her crying but he actually managed to get a full dose of calpol in her for the 1st time!
She fell asleep at 2 woke at 3 & 4 & 5 for feeds/ drink then slept until 8:30.

So I actually got a couple of decent stretches. DP wasn't so happy but he thought she was sleeping "really well" when she was waking every hour a couple of weeks ago so karma πŸ˜‚

CatMumFTM22 · 03/11/2022 15:51

Hello all,

I haven't posted in ages as well - you all know! - life with a newborn.

James had been sleeping well around the 2.5 month mark (after horrendous 4-6 weeks mark) - good blocks of sleep from around 11pm-6am. However now at 15 weeks it's all changing, he appears to be teething (who knew the discomfort of that would start so early?!). Last night was rough, lots of wake ups and crying. To make matters worse, a very loud police helicopter was flying directly over our area for about an hour from 3am on! (I am in the States, British mum but married to an American). Don't get me started on the crime here- that's a whole other rant 🀯

Anyway, just hopping in to say I'm still here, and really appreciate this group and sharing our experiences.

We did have a fun Halloween - I dressed the wee one up as a 1970s Elton John, complete with a wee toy piano and big glasses, and he was so cute. Got to do these things while they're too young to protest! Did anyone else do Halloween with their wee one?

As for Christmas we are feeling pretty broke. I I did buy him a nice Christmas stocking with his name on though, a nice thing to have for years to come.

CatMumFTM22 · 03/11/2022 15:59

Also - I am part of the one a day poonami club! The joys :-D

Olegia · 03/11/2022 16:54

Hey everyone, may I join this group? I've recently found out I was pregnant (I have PCOS and was very very lucky in succeeding on the first cycle), and very much excited/scared/wanting to share experiences.

I'm only 5 weeks along, and my due date is the 7th of July 2023, though I have yet to have my first appointment with the midwives! 😊

KizboBaggins · 03/11/2022 17:00

@CatMumFTM22 welcome back! That Halloween costume sounds amazing! We did two pumpkins and a milk monster for various Halloweeny occasions - I absolutely love dressing him up. Poor boy is gonna be scarred when I'm still tryna dress him up when he's 18 lol

My MIL has bought our little one a Santa sack with his name on which is adorable. We're not really getting him anything this year. He'll need a jumperoo and stuff soon, so that'll be his "presents". But my in laws and parents will both spoil him on the day so he won't go without!

Is anyone else's little one still not really that interested in toys? He likes Hey Bear on the tv, and is quite interested in things with lights but he looks at rattles and teethers with pure boredom lol.

I do wonder if he's struggling with his eyesight though. He's still not great at eye contact and his eyes flicker a lot. We've got an appointment with an ophthalmologist but not until December which feels an age away... it's hard not to worry and over analyse everything he does!

CaptainCarp · 03/11/2022 19:28

@ShellUK09 interesting baby only had her 16 week jabs yesterday so I don't think I can put it down to that.
I've has some food with milk products in & today we've only had 1 small poo so I don't think the poos can be linked to milk.

Actually had a latte today so the most milk I've had & baby is currently fast asleep in the moses so fingers crossed 🀞 it's all just been a bit of a virus.

@CatMumFTM22 glad it's not just my baby who is a poonami master!
The costume sounds great I dressed mine as a bat. She didn't look to impressed πŸ˜‚

@missv556 if you were going to buy it all anyway why not make it Christmas gifts!
We have got a stacking toy, a few clothes & a couple of books. Mainly because SDC would question why baby hasn't got presents if we didn't get anything.

@Olegia congratulations! It might be worth you joining the due july 2023 chat though as our babies are going to be (coming) 1 by the time you are due.

Olegia · 04/11/2022 07:17

@CaptainCarp oh my bad!! I didn't read properly, I am now seeing 2022 instead of 2023 haha, sorry!

CaptainCarp · 04/11/2022 09:49

@Olegia no worries someone else did the same as we've just carried the threads on since this July.
Hope you have a good pregnancy!
I didn't see my midwife until I was 10 weeks but make sure your GP has you booked in ☺

Maybe ours should be moved to the "Parenting" board now really!

NamelessBaby1 · 04/11/2022 15:50

@CaptainCarp yes I think that would be best, pregnancy already seems a distant memory lol

Lianna93 · 06/11/2022 15:53

Ladies I keep losing touch with this thread 😩
We've just been having a hell of a time with my little ones eating & weight that we're now in hospital & have been here for a few days.
However could be turning a corner now 🀞🏻

I know ages ago there was a Facebook group but do we want to try for one again? I find I'm a lot more active on Facebook. We can make it a very closed & private group?

Hope you're all doing well - I've been missing the chat tbh 😩

@CaptainCarp sleep has been much better for the last few days she’s seems to be doing 8/9 through until 6/7 with a little moan around 4ish

@Lianna93 oh no that sounds awful! Hope you’re all ok! I’m up for a Facebook group!

We’ve had OHs mum and brother over this weekend and it’s been so lovely, I’m actually missing them and dreading a day on my own tomorrow πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚
