@kiwi17 I’ve decided not to go ahead with it, the more I spoke to the consultant the more uncomfortable I felt about it, she can stick tongue out and has good movement with it IMO… we don’t really have issues with feeding apart from tucking her top lip in, but she can latch properly but does tuck it in majority of the time, she is windy and farts like a dirty old man but we don’t really get any trouble with trapped wind (touchwood) I just didn’t feel comfortable with it at the moment. I think I may of actually convinced myself there is a problem when there isn’t.

@Ejb505 πŸ‘‹ welcome! We’ve had a teething little girl here the last few days, constantly chomping hands, dribble by the bucket load and generally in a terrible mood with disturbed sleep. The Ashton and parsons teething gel with the applicator really helped yesterday. Sounds hard with the reflux issues, glad it’s settling down now though! I’m also lacking in mom friends with babies of a similar age, I should probably start some groups or classes but I’m scared she’ll scream through them πŸ˜‚

Well things feel a lot calmer today, she slept 8:30-7:30 with 2 wake ups that lasts 5 mins, we all needed a good nights sleep. I have my happy content baby baby I’ve never been so relieved. Second jabs on Monday though so it won’t last πŸ˜‚

kiwi17 · 21/10/2022 12:39

@ChinChilly definitely agree that if it's not affecting feeding too much then leaving it is the best option! Glad you're feeling more peaceful about it now :)

ChinChilly · 21/10/2022 13:43

@kiwi17 I think so, I think the few days of virtually no sleep sent me abit insane 🀣 wasted £50 on a bloody consultation but never mind! This is probably the start of a life time of worrying about these babies 🀭

kiwi17 · 21/10/2022 16:29

@ChinChilly I know what you mean πŸ˜‚ did the consultant say she had a tongue tie then or not? At least you've paid Β£50 for peace of mind that's what I always think. If you hadn't you might still be worrying about it!

ChinChilly · 21/10/2022 17:03

@kiwi17 she didn’t say, the Β£50 was just for a phone call and some feeding advice based on videos I sent her πŸ™„ she said if she saw her and she had on she would snip it there and then

chocsaucestrawb · 21/10/2022 19:36

@Ejb505 welcome and congratulations

I too have had a hard time with an unsettled baby and under a paediatrician also. By bubs is 13 wks I also have no other mum friends with small babies and haven't been out to any groups yet
Have had a difficult and slow recovery and an unsettled baby so haven't felt great
Hopefully on the road to recovery now

X

Ejb505 · 21/10/2022 19:40

Thank you for the advice on the teething gel @ChinChilly . I was told she couldn't have baby Bonjela until she was older so was a bit stuck. I'll definitely give it a go!
As we are all about 3-4 months in, I wondered what item/purchases for baby you are so glad you bought/couldn't live without?? 😊
We bought a floor gym with a piano she plays with her feet (second hand off FB marketplace). She absolutely loves it!! Occupies her for ages. She's playing piano as I write this. Tiring herself out for bed (hopefully)

Ejb505 · 21/10/2022 19:42

@chocsaucestrawb I know how that feels. Its good to hear you too are on the road to recovery. I too haven't been to any groups..yet

KizboBaggins · 21/10/2022 20:04

@Ejb505 ooo good to know, I've been debating getting one of those piano things so I think I will now. My boy likes lights and the black and white pictures. Also got a little Tiny Love mobile for above his pram which he loves to watch go round! Apart from that he isn't really that bothered by toys yet. Our best purchase was probably a second hand Nuna Lead bouncer, he will sit in there happily swinging away while I cook tea and it lasts them until way into toddlerhood

KizboBaggins · 21/10/2022 20:05

Nuna Leaf* bloody autocorrect πŸ™„

kiwi17 · 21/10/2022 20:48

@ChinChilly oh that's a bit frustrating!

I think the most useful thing we have is a swing - it's battery powered so keeps swinging once you start it. I got it off marketplace with dd but she was a bit big for it, ds has used it loads and it will send him to sleep sometimes too. Also my connecta carrier is an absolute essential- got that second hand too last time and used it loads and ds pretty much lives in it - does 2 hr nap in it every day πŸ˜‚

KizboBaggins · 21/10/2022 20:56

@kiwi17 oo yes forgot about baby carrier! Definitely a must have

ChinChilly · 21/10/2022 21:51

@Ejb505 bonjela is 6 months I think but the ashtons and parsons is 3 months and it comes with and applicator which is handy saves your fingers getting chomped!

We’ve got one of those piano mats, she wasn’t that fussed about it up until about 2 weeks ago now she loves it, great for tummy time too…Agree on the bouncer/swing we’ve got a electric one which she isn’t overly keen on but my friend gave me a baby Bjorn one and I dunno why but she loves it! We’ve got a joie carrier aswell which had definitely come in handy.

Has anybody else suffering with PP hair loss, I think I’m going to be bald by Christmas πŸ˜‚

SamanthaVimes · 21/10/2022 22:02

@ChinChilly yes, my hair is coming out in clumps! Not helped by the fact DD1 has brought head lice home from nursery so I’m having to comb it loads more than normal πŸ€¦β€β™€οΈ

I can’t remember how long it lasted last time but it was maybe a month or two, it’s so annoying

ShellUK09 · 22/10/2022 04:48

@Ejb505 hello πŸ‘‹ good to hear from you. My daughter is a similar age, she is 16 weeks now and drooling a lot too. Her hands are always in her mouth now and there's so much salvia! We have had an unsettled few days after the 16 week injections, it's been awful! She has been very fussy, like having one ounce of milk and then crying hysterically to be burped, and then sometimes going for more milk but quite often not and then this means she is crying due to hunger later! Right now she is having on/off sleep and I'm just lying here watching her and putting the dummy in again, she is still in a deep sleep but keeps waking herself up. Is this the dreaded sleep regression, is it teething, so many unknowns with babies! I've been to a baby group and it's been very worthwhile, she seems to get a lot out of just seeing other babies as I don't know anyone with a young baby either and it has increased my own confidence going out with her. She does cry occasionally in the group but when you are there you realise most of the babies there cry too and no one cares, and the music is often so loud it isn't really noticeable, just got to remember to have a dummy to hand!

The best things we have bought are the Moses basket (although got this free from a neighbour and it was brand new!) as she will sleep downstairs for naps, the baby bjorn bouncer (second hand off market place) and great for keeping her upright after a feed, Angel care nappy bin, and Peppa Pig on Netflix! I know she is meant to be too young for tv really but she does smile and laugh along to Peppa. Just got to try not to give her too much screen time. Ewan the sheep has just started coming into his own now, she wasn't interested in him at first but now she will drift back off to sleep if I put that on after her early morning feed. She likes the fisher price baby gym for brief play periods, but gets fed up after 10 minutes. Might have to look for that piano mat, it sounds great! Already started buying some Christmas presents, and have bought some classic books like 'where's spot?' 🐢 can't wait for her first Christmas! It'll be a much better Christmas than last year when I was struggling with severe morning sickness and couldn't barely eat anything!

@ChinChilly oh god hair loss, I was wondering if I was the only one! I feel like I have lost half my hair, started taking vitamins to see if it will help. No one really tells you about this before having a baby! I used to have lovely thick hair too, now I just wear it back all the time and use dry shampoo a lot. Hoping things calm down soon for us 🀞

missv556 · 22/10/2022 07:01

@ChinChilly ah yes the hair loss. I'd expected it because my friend had a baby in 2021 so she warned me about it but still find it nuts that my hair is coming out by the bucket load it seems.

Cant remember who asked now but my must have is the baby bouncer. It follows me room to room so I'm actually able to do things like eat and bathe.

Anyone else with a next to me crib? Dunno if it's because of son's weight or strength but the lining keeps either falling down or he's grabbing the side and pulling it down. A few nights ago I put him down for bed and within seconds it just collapsed in and he could have fallen out of the back if he was able to roll and sometimes when he wakes for a feed its down and quite close to his head which is a worry. It says it's for babies up to 9kg and he's 6.8 so idk why we're having issues all of a sudden

ChinChilly · 22/10/2022 08:18

Glad I’m not the only one with the hair loss, I had loads of hair even pre pregnancy now I feel bald! I run my hands through it and it just full of hair. Washing it is horrendous, I used to wash it every other because you could fry chips in it otherwise but I’ve had to cut that down to twice a week then wear it up, I’m not sure being scraped back in a pony is helping either!

@ShellUK09 we had a few days like that with my LG, honestly it was so hard, not gonna lie i burst into tears a few times but she slept one night 8-7:30 and woke up back to normal! I’m assuming she was teething but could be the jabs with your LO I’ve heard the last ones are the worst. My last Christmas was the same as yours πŸ˜‚ absolutely vile so glad it will be better this year! Then in the new year…weaning can begin 😬 it’s all flying by so quickly!

@SamanthaVimes hopefully it is just a month or two otherwise i better start ordering some wigs πŸ˜‚

@missv556 Haven’t had any problems with our next to me, maybe contact the manufacturer, sounds abit odd.

Ejb505 · 22/10/2022 09:52

@ShellUK09
We had issues with her drinking half a bottle, being winded then refusing the second half. We realised it was because the burping was bringing up acid from her tummy and making her uncomfortable. Since we've been on omeprazole she is much better. Drinks a whole bottle. Since we swapped bottles (from mam) to Tommy tippee colic (with an air release tube) she now can drink a whole bottle with no winding in the middle. Does a couple of big burps at the end and settles. Wish we had known all this sooner!!

Also had issues with hair loss. Pregnancy made my hair thicker, my nails stronger and I was never cold. Now it's all reverted back 😭.

annie1994 · 22/10/2022 11:24

@ChinChilly the hair loss is horrible! I just find my hair everywhere round the house - does my head in! My partner says I shed more than a dog πŸ˜‚

Anyone whose baby is quite close in age to their sibling? Mine have 22 months between them and the hair loss is 10 times worse than last time!! Wondered if it’s because I had the 2 quite close together πŸ€”

ChinChilly · 22/10/2022 12:11

@annie1994 same, mine are literally everywhere I can’t believe I’ve actually got some left on my head!

Amelia gave us her first little giggle this morning, it was so lovely! At the dog barking of all things πŸ˜‚ she must of thought he looked really silly barking with a ball in his mouth! Thought it was just a fluke at first but she did it three times..so sweet

CaptainCarp · 26/10/2022 10:53

@Ejb505 welcome!

We've not had the best few weeks! Thought we were having an early sleep regression / growth spurt with wake ups every 1-1.5hrs. Then last week we ended up at hospital due to blood in poo πŸ˜” 9 hrs later... Doctors didn't really seem to know so gave a Cows milk allergy/intolerance diagnosis.
I've been milk free for nearly a week but not seen a lot of difference... But now I've been reading I'm wondering if I've missed signs for the last month! As her poos have been watery/runny but she also suffered badly following the rotavirus vaccines... Got our 16 week ones next week & I'll be so glad after them as it'll be the last ones for a while!

I would recommend trying to get to a baby group/meet up if possible. Anyone in the Black Country look into Milk Mates. Its free & is support for all feeding but is also just a good way to meet other mums.
It's useful when everyone in the room goes "oh yes i remember the cluster feeding/ sleep regression etc" a bit like here! πŸ™‚

@missv556 I've got a knuma huddle (it's on its 3rd baby) & the sides can't be pulled down.. Sounds like you might want to contact the manufacturer.

CaptainCarp · 26/10/2022 10:55

@ChinChilly oh yes I'm surprised there's any hair left on my head at the moment! I normally "molt" around this time of year but its twice as bad as normal.

Ejb505 · 26/10/2022 11:46

@CaptainCarp how worrying for you. We went through similar. Being off dairy was quite hard (if you're not vegan) but I wholly recommend vegan magnums if you want a treat. Couldn't really tell the difference!
They say it takes a while to see a difference from when you stop dairy but other medical journals have said its pretty quickly out of your breast milk (like alcohol). I really hope that things improve for your little one.

There's not many groups where I live. There's a couple of toddler ones at the library which I've been told I can go to but not sure she would enjoy.
She's quite unpredictable and I still find it hard to be fed and at a certain place for a specific time. She has to be sat upright for 30 mins after feeding due to reflux but things do seem to be getting better.
@annie1994 so lovely to hear your little one giggle. It makes it all worthwhile! They seem to know just when you need it as well!

We are struggling with tummy time. Due to reflux issues she didn't get much floor time in the first 2 months and now we are playing catch up. She lies on her tummy and lifts arms and legs off the floor putting all the weight on her tummy. Which is uncomfortable and unpleasant for her. We try to put her arms in place but she resists putting any weight on them. Any ideas anyone?? (We try propping her on a rolled towel which helps somewhat)

CaptainCarp · 26/10/2022 12:56

@Ejb505 I've definitely got the rise in veganism to thank for the fact there's more milk free stuff & its edible!
I think I'll have to try the magnums, I had a nomo reindeer the other day which for dairy free "milk" chocolate wasn't that bad.

Will she do "tummy time" on your chest? She doesn't need to be flat as long as she's "working" to hold her head up / look around then it still counts.

Ah that's a shame, milk mates is literally just sitting around, babies get to look at each other / crawl around & we drink coffee πŸ˜‚ as it's feeding support also nobody is fazed by baby needing to feed & boobs/bottle are just whipped out.

ChinChilly · 26/10/2022 14:12

@CaptainCarp oh that sounds stressful, hopefully you’re on the right track now! It’s so hard isn’t it when they can’t tell you what’s going on.

@Ejb505 My LG has abit of reflux although it doesn’t seem too bad, she spits up a few hours after feeding and sometimes it’s clear liquid that absolutely stinks! So she’s uptight for half hour after feeding. It doesn’t bother her so while it isn’t bothering her I’m not going to go down the route of medication. With Tummy time i tend to just do it more towards when her next bottle is due…she did do most of her tummy time on my chest to begin with though. She seems to have pretty good head control. Maybe try a tummy time pillow?

is anybody managing independent naps in a cot or Moses basket? We managed a couple last week but then she had a fussy few days and it went out the window. I’m conscious it’s something I should be working towards I’ve been putting her down after she’s fallen asleep and at night she goes down perfectly! In the day however if she doesn’t wake up on the transfer she does 5 mins later πŸ˜‚

I’ve just seen a due in July 2023 thread πŸ™ˆ I can’t believe it’s a year since we found out our LOs were coming!
