@ShellUK09 yeah we love sleeping bags - I had a tommee tippee one that is supposed to go up to 4 months/13lbs like @missv556 but unfortunately my baby has a thick neck so it wouldn't fit round him πŸ˜‚

So we actually just use some that I picked up from Aldi when they did their baby event - they're fantastic!

Good luck for your baby class! We go to one on a Friday but I'm starting to realise I want to find more because currently we do that, and we go see the in laws once a week but apart from that we just end up going to the shops and spending money lol I need more free activities! Oh and dog walking but baby just sleeps through that

SamanthaVimes · 21/09/2022 12:41

How are everyone’s babies napping? DS has been having little cat naps at home either on me or occasionally in his bouncy chair but we’ve been out at forest school and the park with the eldest today and he slept for 2.5 hours in the sling!
I’m wondering now if he needs that much sleep and has just been woken up at home when he’d rather have a bit longer?

babies are so confusing!

CaptainCarp · 21/09/2022 14:09

@KizboBaggins aw lol wherever they are happy! Has he started being interred in rattles yet?

I am enjoying maternity leave but also kind of wish I could be more productive... But its daft really as I am getting more done than I was a few weeks ago... but the house still seems a tip!

@ShellUK09 definitely liking the sleeping bags here. We've gone up to a 1.0tog this week as our bedroom has finally dropped down to 19/20 degrees. She's in a sleepsuit inside it.

I feel she general sleeps better in the next to me when she's in it & i think it's because she doesn't feel the transfer from feeding on the bed to it so much. I think as shes not lieing directly on the "cold" mattress / I'm not faffing with blankets

I recommended Mum2mum markets / NCT nearly new sales depending on what's in your area. I got 3 sleeping bags in 6-12 months for Β£3 each the other day at my local 1.

Would recommend at least 2 but probably 3 of each tog as it only takes 1 nappy leakage / poonami & they do take a little bit of time to dry.

CaptainCarp · 21/09/2022 14:14

@SamanthaVimes my baby has been having quite a few cat naps recently. Yesterday we went from 9-15:30 with only 30mins total naps! Then I decided to let her sleep on me & got 2 hours.

Today we had 30 mins earlier & we are now up to 40 mins on me. So I'm watching TV as I can't move. Luckily managed to get a few things done in the early nap.

How old is your baby? Maybe its a phase where they like contact naps.

ShellUK09 · 21/09/2022 16:32

Thanks everyone, will definitely do some online shopping and get some sleeping bags soon!

Today our baby has barely slept, but she has had her second set of injections today which is making her unsettled 😒 the appointment was 9:30am so I'm hoping the effects of it wear off soon and she is more settled by bedtime. We had a rough night of broken sleep last night and I'm desperate for a bit more sleep πŸ₯±

Has anyone taken their baby swimming yet? I'm looking at swim nappies and wetsuits and could do with some recommendations!

Yes we took both of ours from 4 weeks.. what do you need to know? We've always used the reusable bambino mio swim nappies under a swimsuit - normally a shortie with legs and arms . We've never done lessons just take them every week on a Saturday morning to the local public pool. To start with don't expect baby to stay in very long unless the pool is very warm, they get cold very quickly! I think ds did about 10 minutes in the pool last time we went πŸ˜‚

KizboBaggins · 21/09/2022 21:22

@kiwi17 thanks! Yeah I was wondering about reusable nappies or the Huggies ones. I've ordered a swim suit off Amazon but the sizing is crazy and I've ended up ordering a 6-12 month size so we'll see πŸ€·πŸ»β€β™€οΈ

I'm excited to get him swimming - he loves the bath but does get cold easily so I doubt we'll be in long. I should probably buy myself a swimsuit too, the maternity one I had is too big and I don't think I'm mentally prepared to wear a bikini just yet πŸ™ƒ

kiwi17 · 21/09/2022 22:07

We found it so hard to buy swimming costumes for babies - 0-3 months sized ones basically don't exist I think both of them were in 3-6m sizes as that was the smallest we could find!

Lianna93 · 22/09/2022 13:05

Just been catching up!
Looks like a lot of us have wee cat nappers atm!
My LO is finally starting to smile, we're getting more & more each day!

@Peters27 My LO has been dropping her centiles also. Was 8lb at birth, did as expected - lost then regained but has gradually been gaining more weight but has dropped her centiles but my HV wasn't concered too much. But a wee stint in the hospital (I'll explain after this paragraph) & suddenly she's under the care of a dietitian & I'm being told to up her feeds.... She's breastfed on demand πŸ™„

We've been having a hellish week. Jags on the Wednesday last week and then the Thursday, I noticed her wee toe was all infected so got antibiotics prescribed which we started on the Friday. By Sunday, there were bits of blood (think like stomach lining when you've retched too much) in her reflux. Hospital Monday, prescribed a higher dose of antibiotics & omeprazole for her reflux. Tuesday I noticed she had blood through her poop, this continued for 24 hours so back into hospital. Doctor wasn't interested at all & wouldn't accept me telling him it's being caused by the antibiotics. He essentially gaslit me & told me it's cmpa (it's not - we've been through all this) so he sent the dietitian in who confirmed it's not cmpa. She then grilled me on baby's feeding habits but didn't seem to understand the concept of cluster feeds or feeding on demand. So had me guess how many times baby has big full feeds, (she's told me no right of wrong answer) told her 4 (again pure guess because I'm not in the habit of tracking them). She then tells me I need to up my baby's feeds because shes dropping her centile.
I asked her what's causing the blood then & told me my baby is just straining too hard - she's not.
DH checked the NHS website for side effects of antibiotics and it literally says, severe reaction blood & mucus in stool phone 111. But you know... couldn't possibly be the antibiotics that are hurting my baby.
She's in so much pain with these bloody antibiotics that she's literally fussing all day and is screaming the place down in the evening and it's such a sore cry.
I'm so unbelievably frustrated and angry with my local hospital right now.

@Lianna93 that sounds so tough, well done you for pushing back though. You’re doing amazing for dealing with all that!

missv556 · 22/09/2022 14:02

Question for the breastfeeding ladies here, have any of you started drinking alcohol again yet? I'd like to have a drink but my mum and sister said I couldn't if I was bf. I'm not talking getting shit faced but one drink now and again. I've read conflicting opinions so not sure what to do. I don't want to limit myself if it's not necessary but then I also don't want to cause harm to my alien either. Ah being a mum is hard!

KizboBaggins · 22/09/2022 14:30

@missv556 yep I'm breastfeeding and have had a drink a few times. I've had a beer and breastfed a few hours after and it's had no effect on the baby. I'm sure I read somewhere "if you're sober enough to drive you're sober enough to breastfeed". I think the biggest concern when drinking is making sure you're able to look after baby if that makes sense, rather than the contamination of breast milk.

On Saturday night I had a few glasses of wine planned so we prepped in advance and gave some expressed milk to baby instead in a bottle. But tbh by the time I'd had one I was exhausted and the realisation I had to get up with baby in the night made me not bother with any more lol

KizboBaggins · 22/09/2022 14:34

@Lianna93 god that sounds horrendous! Your poor little girl! How long is she on the antibiotics for? Can't imagine how stressful this all must be for you - you're doing amazing

kiwi17 · 22/09/2022 14:37

@Lianna93 that sounds incredibly frustrating and upsetting I'm so sorry :(

Having been told by the gp that ds is now on the 98th centile it turned out when the hv checked that the gp had logged it wrong and he's actually dropped from below the 50th centile to the 25th so now he's being monitored - it's so frustrating. Also ebf...

@missv556 I've been drinking and feeding, the odd glass doesn't matter according to the nhs. They also say it takes 2 to 3 hrs for alcohol to pass through your system so if you drink it straight after you finish one feed you should be good by the time the next one comes around!

CaptainCarp · 22/09/2022 14:46

@Lianna93 oh poor baby! Hugs for both of you. I bet you wanted to scream by the end of the appointment.
There's such a lack of knowledge around breastfeeding... From as simple as "breastfed babies do need winding" to seemingly knowing nothing about feeding habits as you found!

@missv556 I've had a glass of wine or a beer. I know some would say 0 alcohol but I think the % in my blood that then gets to my breast milk should be negligible.
I've tried to keep to having it with food as well.

SamanthaVimes · 22/09/2022 15:15

@missv556 drinking is fine as long as you’re still safe to hold / look after the baby. Absolutely no bedsharing if you’ve had a drink though as it makes you sleep deeper.
I’m popping along to some work leaving drinks tonight and will have 1 drink (driving so won’t have more than 1)

Lianna93 · 22/09/2022 15:32

Thank you for the messages ladies. She's due to finish the antibiotics on Saturday but her wee toe still looks red and sore so no doubt it'll be more antibiotics for her 😞
Im fed up, im frustrated, im stressed and above all else, im exhausted 😩
I just want to get past this wee phase and see my baby feeling well again.

@missv556 Drinking is fine as long as you can look after your baby. It's very minimal amounts that passes through breastmilk from what I've been told.
I've seen me share a bottle of red with DH 😊
Long gone are the days of pumping & dumping 😁

missv556 · 22/09/2022 15:42

Aw lovely, I've got some cider that I've had since about this time last year and I'm dying to try it 😁

KizboBaggins · 26/09/2022 07:45

How's everyone doing?

@Lianna93 how's your little girls toe? Hope she's feeling better!

@missv556 did you crack open the cider?

My boy slept for 8hrs and 46 minutes last night and I could cry with joy. Not that I slept that whole time - I had to poke him to check he was still breathing at least every two hours lol. I know it's a one off as he had basically no naps yesterday but I'm gonna take it as a little Monday win

SamanthaVimes · 26/09/2022 08:02

Nearly 9 hours?! That’s fab! Fingers crossed it isn’ta one off

DS hasn’t quite managed that yet but is being pretty good at night at the moment so I’m fairly functional which is nice! Although DD keeps waking him up in the morning and running all chances of a lie in. This morning it was a rendition of Old Macdonald at full volume πŸ€¦β€β™€οΈ

KizboBaggins · 26/09/2022 08:09

@SamanthaVimes hahah oh bless her! I honestly don't know how you do this with more than one young child!

I have a 12 year old step son who stays with us on weekends but he rarely emerges from his room before 10am lol

missv556 · 26/09/2022 09:00

@KizboBaggins no cider yet but it is my friend's birthday today so we are going for lunch and I'll be having a cocktail for sure! I'm very jealous you managed such a big chunk of sleep. My little one seems to be waking up very frequently all of a sudden πŸ˜” every 1-2 hours. He's gone backwards fml, been like it for a few days now

Lianna93 · 26/09/2022 09:56

@KizboBaggins Toe is still very red & infected and the other toe on the other foot has gone the same way 😩 Doctor took us off the antibiotics & has prescribed a cream instead but idk if it's working. I've to give it two weeks πŸ€·πŸ»β€β™€οΈ I'll just keep monitoring it.
Feel like my poor girl just can't catch a break right now 😩

How are you & your little one? Great news about his big long sleep!

@KizboBaggins amazing on the big long sleep

@Lianna93 ahh your poor little one, wish I could suggest something to help ☹️Hope it’s sorted soon

We’ve got abit of constipation over here and she’s had her jabs today so we have not had a happy baby for the last 24 hours. She’s never really been a cryer so it’s thrown me abit πŸ₯΄ she had her jabs at about 9:30 this morning and she slept from about 10:30/11 until 30 mins ago, woke up screaming had a feed and some more calpol and has gone back to sleep, I feel like I’m in for a long night any words of wisdom to get me through
