@missv556 hope you enjoyed the cocktail! My baby is the same, was going a good 5hrs & for the past few days has been back 1-2hrs 😴

@Lianna93 oh poor baby! Fingers crossed the cream starts working soon.

@ChinChilly not really got words of wisdom just plan on doing nothing tomorrow except lie on the sofa!

kiwi17 · 26/09/2022 21:49

Ergh I would love a 5 hour stretch 😭 getting out of the house in the morning to get dd to school on time is proving challenging at the moment - I feel like we're constantly rushing and the mornings are so stressful. Baby decided to throw up 30 seconds before we walked out of the door today πŸ™ˆ on the plus side he's managed 2 naps in his big cot in the day time so swings and roundabouts!

Mattieandmummy · 27/09/2022 06:13

@kiwi17 I feel your pain about leaving the house, my first is late for preschool a lot these days.

Has anyone elses sleepy baby finally woken up? Until 10 weeks little lady was sleeping all the time, we barely say her eyes open and now bing we are awake and I actively have to try to get her asleep. It's been a bit of a shock. Better start doing some tummy time now she's actually awake for more than five minutes 😬

ShellUK09 · 27/09/2022 08:41

@Mattieandmummy I've never had a very sleepy baby, but she is napping much less throughout the day now and sleeping a good stretch at night. Mine seems very alert, and from the moment she wakes up she needs a lot of interaction. Smiles and chatters away first thing, likes to watch tv and chatter and dance her legs around. Recently discovered she likes strictly come dancing πŸ˜€ but we have tried Peppa Pig too and she likes the sounds and colours of that. I never realised how short those episodes are! Thankfully you do get a laugh out of it too. I have a feeling she is going through another growth spurt now, the last few days she is ravenous at every feed and she has been quite fussy throughout the day. She is 13 weeks tomorrow and we have a nursery nurse coming round this week in place of a health visitor to talk about weaning, I think they said you can start from 4 months if you want but generally you start it at 6 months. I'm a bit confused about whether we will need a high chair soon or a little floor seat as she cannot sit up unaided yet. Has anyone else thought about high chairs yet?

ChinChilly · 27/09/2022 08:49

@CaptainCarp we had a few bouts of irritability but she was fine by the evening and then slept 9:30-7:30

@kiwi17 my LO does that it’s almost a protest about leaving the house πŸ˜‚

Does anybody use blankets for sleep at night? Do your babies kick them off? I’ve got a sleep bag to use but she kicks the blankets off every night and every time I put them back over her she kicks them off again so I’m wondering if the sleep bag is going to annoy her because she can’t kick it off but equally I don’t want her to be cold

KizboBaggins · 27/09/2022 10:54

@ChinChilly how is your girl today? How was the night? Hope you got some sleep!

@Lianna93 poor little thing! It's awful when things pile on top of each other isn't it. I hope she's doing ok today

@Mattieandmummy yep day time naps are down to a minimum now and he's much more alert - he's 10 weeks today. He's very alert in the morning but definitely gets crankier as the day goes on, probably cause of the lack of sleep! He's still not great at tummy time. He just eats his sleeve lol.

@ShellUK09 I think the NHS say it's best to wait until 6 months - 13 weeks seems very early to be having that conversation! I think they definitely need to be able to sit up and control their head before they are weaned. But I could be wrong!

My boy did another 7+ hour stretch last night then was back down for another 3. I am very grateful but highly suspicious lol

ChinChilly · 27/09/2022 11:28

@KizboBaggins back to her usual self today, she slept through for 10 hours! She’s a good little sleeper though, she’s been sleeping through for about 2 weeks now, I’ve probably just jinxed it!

@Mattieandmummy my LO tends to have a few cat naps now rather than big long stretch’s, it’s much more interesting to be looking around. Same as @KizboBaggins with the tummy time she’s not fussed about it, doesn’t cry but just lies there eating her hands or sleeve.

@ShellUK09 I think it’s recommended babies with reflux wean early at 4 months, I think 6 months is generally the recommendation unless they’re showing signs of readiness before that. I can’t see it hurting to give her a little taste of age suitable stuff. I’m sure the nursery nurse will give you all the info though

ShellUK09 · 27/09/2022 11:46

@KizboBaggins yeah it does seem early to be having the conversation, but the health visitor explained at the last visit they like to give out the information on weaning early so parents are ready for it. Mine cannot sit up unaided yet, her head control is coming on well and she tries her best during tummy time but she is not quite there yet. Will see what is said tomorrow!

@ChinChilly hmmm I'm interested in hearing what they have to say about weaning, and also wondering where to start?! It's a steep learning curve for a first timer.

SamanthaVimes · 27/09/2022 11:55

In my (admittedly limited) experience as a second timer, don’t rush into weaning. The first week or so is a novelty and exciting but it becomes a chore sooo quickly and they really don’t need food before 6 months.

Especially if they haven’t lost the tongue thrust reflex, they’ll end up dribbling it all out anyway and making the cleaning up even worse.

I’ve got an older cousin who had one child when the official advice was 4 months (quite a long time ago now!) and another after it changed to 6 months and she said 6 months was so much easier because the baby was physically ready to eat the food.

With DD we started at 5.5 months but it didn’t make any difference to her reflux or sleeping. She definitely didn’t swallow any more than tiny bits for weeks (could tell from nappies) so it was more like messy play for her that I had to clear up from every day!

ChinChilly · 27/09/2022 11:56

@ShellUK09 I think you can either go with baby led weaning or more controlled feeding, either way I’m sure the general recommendation is to start with purΓ©e’s of single veg and baby porridge marketed at under 6 months isn’t recommended as it’s made with baby rice which has zero nutritional value. I might be wrong though it could of all changed since I worked as a nursery nurse. Please let us know what they say though I’m quite excited for weaning! A while away for us though she’s only 10 weeks tomorrow.

My mom was telling me that when I was a baby they were told to wean at 3 months and I was munching on chocolate buttons by 4 months πŸ€¦β€β™€οΈπŸ€¦β€β™€οΈπŸ€¦β€β™€οΈ But I turned out alright so I wouldn’t stress about it too much πŸ˜‚

ShellUK09 · 27/09/2022 12:09

@SamanthaVimes thanks that's really useful advice and makes sense, will not rush into weaning as will do anything for a slightly less stressful life right now. Yeah I think it is exciting to think about weaning as it is a change, you wonder if they get bored of milk, but the constant cleaning up sounds less fun and if it all ends up down their chin there probably is little point!

@ChinChilly ah yes giving purΓ©e of single vegetables sounds like the way to go, I keep seeing the little packets of purΓ©e baby food in the supermarket which look so convenient but I'm guessing doing it yourself is better for them. Haha chocolate buttons at 4 months, sure you enjoyed that πŸ˜€ it's funny what used to be acceptable. My mum is shocked we no longer use talc at nappy changes, and she also let me sleep on my front as a baby as apparently it was better for wind... But as you say, we survived!

kiwi17 · 27/09/2022 13:26

@ChinChilly 100% sleeping bags are the way to go! She'll be nice and toasty in there- just check what tog you are using and how warm the room is. We've always used them with dd and went straight into them 1 week in with ds they're just much easier :)

ChinChilly · 27/09/2022 13:33

@ShellUK09 I think using the pouch’s is fine if you wanted to, might just be abit expensive in the long run, not sure I’d have time to purΓ©e veg at the moment. I know I was like bloody hell mom and she just said oh well you enjoyed them πŸ˜‚ exactly I think we worry too much now

@kiwi17 i might give the sleep bag ago tomorrow night! I’m just worried incase she’s kicking them off because she’s hot but our house is never particularly hot because it’s on old house so surely she can’t be that hot

KizboBaggins · 27/09/2022 13:35

@ChinChilly I thought the same that my boy was kicking the blanket off because he was too hot then I tried him in a sleeping bag and he slept loads better so I think he was just kicking in his sleep - he's still a wriggler now but def loves his sleeping bag

kiwi17 · 27/09/2022 13:39

@ChinChilly unless she's sweaty hot in the sleeping bag you're probably fine - I don't think they're coordinated enough yet to be able to kick off a blanket to cool themselves down they just do it by accident:)

ChinChilly · 27/09/2022 13:56

@kiwi17 @KizboBaggins ahh thanks both, i did think surely she’s not that coordinated πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚ I’ll give the sleeping blanket a go, thanks both

CaptainCarp · 27/09/2022 14:31

@Chh0412

CaptainCarp · 27/09/2022 14:45

Ffs posted random there!

@ChinChilly our little one often kicked off the blanket but seems happy in the sleeping bag.
I've found she likes to be slightly more toasty than recommended so from the below chart at 19 degrees she's had a sleepsuit on rather than just a long sleeve vest & was much happier & no cold hands!

@ShellUK09 I think the biggest thing for being able to wean baby is that they can sit unaided for the time it takes to feed.

It is recommended to wait until 6 months now i think so the tongue reflex that @SamanthaVimes mentioned & so baby is truly sitting unaided.

Looking at the mess made by my friends babies when weaning I think I'm happy to wait! Also at 3 months tomorrow I can't believe we are halfway there!

I'm planning on doing baby led weaning so baby will have whole foods rather than puree. Also possibly will look at the 100 foods list to check for reactions / for variety.

@CaptainCarp ahh thank you that charts really helpful!

@Chh0412 ahh she’s lovely!! Look at all that beautiful hair 😍

CaptainCarp · 27/09/2022 19:08

@Chh0412 oh she's gorgeous & I love her sleepsuit! How many weeks is she now?

We are 13wks today & officially 3 months tomorrow!

@ChinChilly no problem, it was from either the grobag or tomee tippee website I think so I thought it was a good guide.

Chh0412 · 27/09/2022 20:04

She was 14 weeks (10weeks corrected) on Saturday and was 3months on the 18th June.
Im gutted I got locked out and I’ve missed so much!!
i had a tricky pregnancy with sickness, obstetric cholestatis, gestational diabetes and Polyhydramnios. Leading to be monitored every 3 days with bloods, induced early, lost 1.5litres of blood and ZoΓ« born not breathing leading to a stay in NICU!!
However we are healthy and happy xx x

KizboBaggins · 27/09/2022 20:23

Wow @Chh0412 I had a very straight forward birth and I'm still feeling like I'm just getting over it, so I can't imagine how you're feeling! ZoΓ« is gorgeous though! And really glad you're all good now

Has anyone else who is EBF experienced their baby dropping the amount of feeding time? For the past two days my little boy has fed almost half the time he normally does. Because he's slept 7+ hours at night he's also dropped a feed, but that doesn't account for the drop in time spent on boob (I'm using the Huckleberry app to track)

He doesn't have a temp and his behaviour is normal but naturally I'm concerned he isn't getting enough food. We tried an expressed bottle tonight for a change and he managed 3oz in just over 2 hours, which doesn't seem enough to me...
