@KizboBaggins omg yes!!! This little monkey has hardly slept during the day for the last 3 days but she’s sleeping 10/11pm-6/7am so I feel like I can’t moan. She’s tired during the day but won’t nap for more than 20/30 mins

SamanthaVimes · 18/09/2022 13:52

Yeah we’re getting decent nights time stretches now but struggling with day naps. Poor lad keeps getting woken up as we do things with DD / take her places etc.

I’d prefer this than the other way round though!

Lianna93 · 18/09/2022 18:42

@KizboBaggins I'm exactly the same. Sleeps amazing through the night but will only nap during the day if she's in my arms & it's for really short stints.

@KizboBaggins we have taken to catnapping for 20-40 minutes but we getting a 5-6hrs stretch at night a bit more regularly so it's not quite so bad.

Do you find baby can be left on a playmat for a few minutes happily so you can make a sandwich / pee πŸ˜‚?
Im finding this a bit more so although the naps are shorter I can still at least sometimes eat with baby next to me & just having a chat between mouthfuls.

ShellUK09 · 18/09/2022 21:51

@KizboBaggins things for us seem to change each week, this week she has been sleeping a lot better at night usually doing a 6 hour stint. Today she went back to sleep after her early morning feed and we had a lie in until 9am which felt incredible. She naps fairly well during the day, and always sleeps in her pram or the car, or in her Moses basket if rocked to sleep with her dummy in. There are days like today where she has been very awake and looking around for most of the day (she is fascinated by the tv now) so there's no real pattern for us yet. We do the same with the dummy!

JJ1992 · 20/09/2022 11:44

Aw just catching up here while baby contact naps! Lovely to see how everyone and their babies are doing πŸ₯°
We are also in the sleep better at night zone. My little man has a decent morning nap and then is pretty much awake until bedtime with shirt naps in between. Probably because he just won't settle when put down through the day and i think he is a little colicy in the evenings. Just rolling with it!

Is anyone else really enjoying maternity leave? I defo have lonely days and i am eating far too much, but other than that i feel like i can handle most things because really the wee man is all that needs to be done. Everything else is second!

Another thing, does anyones babies have a little giggle to themselves as they drift off to sleep? Ru has always done this and it. Melts my hear. I think its a reflex not a real laugh but he properly chuckles πŸ˜‚πŸ₯°

SamanthaVimes · 20/09/2022 11:51

@JJ1992 I’m really enjoying it too. My first maternity leave was in lockdown and it’s so much better this time. Not sure I’ll still be enjoying it if DS has the same 4 month sleep regression that DD had though πŸ˜… I’ll have to make the most of it while I can!

Oh no! Im blissfully ignrorant to whats coming haha sounds like that sleep regression will be coming right around the first time ru has a night at gran and grandads πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‹

SamanthaVimes · 20/09/2022 12:19

@JJ1992 apparently they don’t all have it but DD certainly did! At least I know this time that it will end eventually πŸ˜‚
they’re always angels for everyone else, save the real drama for mum and dad πŸ˜‚

KizboBaggins · 20/09/2022 13:02

@CaptainCarp yes my boy would lay on his changing mat for hours quite happily lol. Not on his playmat, just his changing mat lol he's weird

@ShellUK09 bless her, my boy has just started noticing the tele. Not really interested in it yet though! Dummy ping pong is our new favourite game πŸ™„

We're currently on day 3 of 20min cat naps and waking ever 2-3hrs at night 😳 hoping this is just a phase. He's slept 40mins since 7am.

@SamanthaVimes @JJ1992 despite what I've just said I am also enjoying maternity leave! It is a bit lonely sometimes but I'm trying to make the most of it as it will be my only one.

I'm a bit nervous for the winter though when it's rainy and cold and we can't get out as much. Although I've just bought a snuggly snow suit for him so might just head out anyway

I darent even think about the 4 month sleep regression lol

Peters27 · 20/09/2022 13:25

Hi all, just wondering if anyone has had any issues with weight...my little girl was fairly big at 9lb 5oz at birth which was the 95th centile!she took 4 weeks to regain her birth weight (50th centile at that point)as I had issues with my supply after a traumatic birth and readmission for an infection at 3 weeks.I now mainly formula feed with 1 breast feed at night and boob whenever she wants to just settle..she takes 30oz of formula a day..she was weighed today and now is between 25th and 50th..She seems to be thriving generally and is a long baby..her Head Circumfrence was on the 91st centile so just a bit worried although the HV wasn't and said she will probably find her line..reweighing her in 3 weeks.. anyone have any experience of this with prior children or their new babies? She's 10 weeks on Thursday! Thanks so much..xx

ChinChilly · 20/09/2022 13:36

@Peters27 my LO was 9lb 3 at birth, took 3 weeks to regain birth weight (although was in NICU and was nil by mouth for a few days) she was on 75th centile 3 weeks after birth and 2 weeks ago had dropped to 50th so she’s being weighed again next week, she has been FF since birth. Her head is also on the 90 something centile I was worried she had a large head but the HV didn’t mention anything.

Peters27 · 20/09/2022 13:42

@ChinChilly thanks so much glad to know it isn't just me!Ya my milk didn't come in for 5 days so the poor thing was basicslly NPO for 5 days! She has one or two small issues with her bloods so now my head is gone into overdrive!Hoping they just " find their lines"as the HV said!πŸ™I suppose just cos they were very big babies doesn't mean they will continue like that?!I'm trying to reassure myself here lol x but she developing perfectly otherwise!

ChinChilly · 20/09/2022 13:49

@Peters27 ahh try not to worry, I always try think if the GP & HV aren’t worried then I shouldn’t. Absolutely, I think the centiles are aload of πŸ’© to be honest, they basically say all babies on that centile should put the same amount of weight on at the same time πŸ™„ as long as they’re putting weight on and developing I don’t see the problem

Peters27 · 20/09/2022 13:54

@ChinChilly thanks a million I agree and will try to just chill!xx

SamanthaVimes · 20/09/2022 13:55

@Peters27 If she’s gaining and happy in herself I wouldn’t worry yet, see what the next weigh in is.
I heard somewhere that the birth weight is more to do with you but then they can find their own line after so a big baby might not stay that way or a small one might balloon up.
If the HV isn’t worried then I’m sure she’s fine, they see loads of babies and will have practice spotting ones that aren’t doing well, especially if you weren’t worried before you knew the weight (if your gut is telling you something is wrong that’s a bit different but if it’s just the number on the scale I’d wait until you have more information)

ChinChilly · 20/09/2022 14:08

@Peters27 this is just the start of years of worry about these babies πŸ˜‚ I’m the same every little thing worries me I regularly have to talk myself down lol

ShellUK09 · 20/09/2022 14:29

@KizboBaggins ah same here, I'm loving maternity leave and this simple routine. I think this will be my only child too so making the most of every day. I could happily live like this forever, don't miss work and all the stress that came with the job. I keep hearing from some of my work colleagues and it all sounds very hectic and chaotic at work right now (I work in a university so it is the hardest time of year right now!) I'm definitely going to drop a day when I go back, and if it's still really stressful I'm going to start job hunting once I'm back for a less pressurised role as there's more important things in life now πŸ™‚ haha dummy ping pong is a good way of describing it! My little one has days where she seems really unsettled, today has been one of them! She was good when a friend visited us earlier but she hasn't really slept much since. I keep worrying about whether she is too cold at night now but then when I have put her thicker blanket on she gets too hot and there's sweat on her back so using a thin muslin cloth as a blanket right now along with her sleep suit and vest. It's all trial and error!

KizboBaggins · 20/09/2022 14:36

@ShellUK09 I know what you mean, I don't miss work either. I thought I would but nope. Also half my team just got made redundant sooo that doesn't fill me with optimism for my return πŸ™„ definitely feel like I only still have a job because they can't get rid of me while I'm on maternity lol. I think dropping a day is a great idea - I might try the same (if I still have a job lol)

I've got little man in a vest, sleepsuit and a 2.5 tog sleeping bag at night. It sounds a lot but he seems to need it and doesn't sweat - he's been sleeping better since we upped it from a 1.5 tog. He gets cold easy like his momma. It's all trial and error though isn't it! Feel like I'm learning stuff every day. Like the fact that last week he would sleep happily in his pram but now he will only contact nap. RIP to my arm right now. I'm gonna have one massive bicep lol

NamelessBaby1 · 20/09/2022 16:11

@JJ1992 yes I get that wee drifting off to sleep giggle too which is just the cutest thing, and she also now gives me big smiles when she wakes up for feeds which also melts my heart.
I'm enjoying mat leave too, it's nice being able to slow down a bit again, and I'm getting out to walk so much more than I have in ages! I just need to watch I don't end up spending too much money on coffees and stuff haha. Trying to push myself to keep going to various baby groups so that I get company though, as it can definitely be a bit lonely at times!

Had our first vaccines today, baby seems fine so far but will see how things go this evening - her nappy has already been rank rotten though lol, wee soul.

@Lianna93 hope you're getting on ok, been thinking of you x

ShellUK09 · 20/09/2022 16:58

@KizboBaggins Ah good timing for your maternity leave then, hopefully things will have calmed down by the time you go back. It's a shame for the rest of your team though. It's the opposite in my place, so many new starters have started since I left, I won't know anyone when I return. I'll have to look into getting some sleeping bags as then things will be simpler at night. What type of sleeping bag do you recommend? I was looking at these ages ago from tommee tippee but one of the midwives put me off sleeping bags for newborns as she said it was dangerous to use from birth and it was also a heatwave over the summer so I didn't end up buying one. We do have a very warm house though, it's a new build and seems almost too well insulated, so I think it's just a case of try and see. Oh no, that will hurt your arm, it's funny the different stages they go through! Mine still loves to sleep in the pram, but who knows for how long!

ShellUK09 · 20/09/2022 17:34

I've just booked up for a free taster session for a Bloom baby class on Friday. I'll have to time the feeds well that day if I can! My worst fear is being the one with the baby who needs to go out as they are kicking off. Suppose they will be used to it anyway! It's only a 45 minute class so hopefully it will build my confidence up.

SamanthaVimes · 20/09/2022 21:32

@ShellUK09 sleeping bags are great, you just need to make sure they can’t go over baby’s head. I feel they’re safer than blankets as baby can’t pull them over their face, you just have to be careful they’re not too hot because they can’t kick them off like a blanket.

Mattieandmummy · 21/09/2022 09:44

@ShellUK09 another vote for sleeping bags here, especially as it's getting cooler. They come in 0.5 tog right up to 3 5tog so even if your house is warm you should be able to get one for the right temperature range. I got Tommie Tippie/ Gro ones for my first winter baby but got a far cheaper John Lewis summer one for this baby and it's been absolutely fine. The TT / Gro ones come with a clothing guide but you can get it off their website too and I just followed that for the summer sleeping bag. Upgraded her to the 2.5 tog TT/Gro one now though it's getting cooler at night.

missv556 · 21/09/2022 11:12

@ShellUK09 another vote for sleeping bags, absolute god send since i started using it. LO sleeps great in it cos it stops him from startling himself awake, i keep his arms in and he looks like a little burrito πŸ˜‚. I have a tommee tippee one, it's 1.0 tog and I have the baby in a vest and sleepsuit cos he does run a bit warm. It's meant to go up to 4 months old or 13 lbs so he needs a new one cos he's outgrowing it already. I'll be getting 2.5 tog as it's getting colder now.
