@annie1994 thank goodness for supportive mums! My mum keeps reminding me when she had me she was kept in hospital for a week even though she was physically fine, so not to be expecting to do anything myself that first week.

@ShellUK09 thankfully I was able to visit my sister in her workplace as she has her own office to do a feed and nappy change before I headed to the restaurant, that made it far more relaxed!

weatherchange22 · 03/09/2022 08:26

Has anyone got their period around 6wks pp?

I had my 6 week check yesterday and as I'm still having slight abdominal pain (have done since birth) she checked my pad and said it's still quite red and looks 'fresh' and is sending me for a scan to check all ok

Anyway I've woken with a heavier bleed and pantry liners not working ( was light flow for weeks) and I do have a period pain feeling so wondering if it's my period ?! Or something to worry about 😬

kiwi17 · 03/09/2022 08:30

@weatherchange22 yes I got mine around 5/6 weeks - lochia had failed off and then I suddenly got fresh red blood again which lasted for about a week so I'm guessing that's what it was. Pretty annoying as I'm ebf and didn't get it back til about 10 months with DD1. Hoping it was a one off and I won't see it for a few months now but not holding out much hope!

CaptainCarp · 03/09/2022 09:54

Hi all just trying to catch up on all the posts.

Sleep went out the window following the jabs so only been having 2hrs between feeds but last night she went 21:30-02:00!

Then did 2hrs then was awake for an hour but had another 2hr strerch.

Anyone else's baby seem to "fight" naps during the day? She's been hard to get down & then gets massively overtired... Or she'll be asleep on me for 20mins & when I dare put her down on sofa/moses/floor Bam! We are awake.

@KizboBaggins don't worry about weight loss I'm sure it'll come off naturally once your sleep pattern is more normal & you start moving more.

I'm incredibly lucky that due to the gestational diabetes I actually came out of pregnancy the same weight I started at then I fitted back in my pre-pregnancy jeans at 4wks pp.
I have however got 2 stone to lose (2.5 potentially) to get down to a healthy weight for me.

All waiting for smiles it's hard to tell at 1st but if you get a smile as a reaction to your interaction then it's probably not gas! Daddy got the 1st definite smile here & still gets a smile everytime he comes home (jealous πŸ˜‚)

NamelessBaby1 · 03/09/2022 14:21

@CaptainCarp yes we're exactly the same with daytime sleeps at the moment; always wakes up the second she's put in the Moses basket and is quite happy just sitting awake in her wee chair for hours lol. She seems to go to sleep ok if I take her a walk in the pram in so I've been doing that or timing drives for when she's due a nap!

missv556 · 03/09/2022 15:20

@weatherchange22 yep I got my period 5 weeks pp. I knew for sure it was my period because it was heavier than any bleeding that I'd had in the weeks after birth and I'd not had any bleeding for a short while beforehand. Sucks cos I'm ebf and thought I'd have months before the witch came back. I was worried it would be really heavy but it wasn't tbf

@CaptainCarp yep my boy is the same in the day, he'll sleep sound on my lap then if you move him, he's awake again. They just love being with their mamas I guess. I also do walks to keep him asleep for a while

KizboBaggins · 05/09/2022 20:36

How's everyone doing?

I had HV visit today - little boy is 11lb 4oz, up from 7lb 4oz at birth, so he's putting weight on. He's EBF. The HV has referred me to a breast feeding team and has scheduled another visit with us in a few weeks... not sure why if he's putting weight on? I think it's because he only eats for less than 10mins at a time. He's never stayed latched for over 15mins. Has anyone else had this? I've got a fast flow so I know he struggles with that, but now I feel like the HV is concerned and maybe I should be too πŸ€·πŸ»β€β™€οΈ

NamelessBaby1 · 05/09/2022 21:53

Oh that's interesting @KizboBaggins , my wee one is the same with the short feeds which does worry my slightly- I have another HV visit this week so I think it will depend on how much weight she has put on as to whether I need to be referred anywhere or not, as she is still very small for her age (3rd percentile, and growth had slowed at the last weigh in). I'd have thought that was a good amount of weight to have put on already though! We were only up 1lb5 after 5 weeks!

Fizzybubblegumbottles · 05/09/2022 21:56

@KizboBaggins how old is your little one? That seems like good weigh gain.. my boy was 7lb born and was 10lb at 6 weeks and they said his weight gain was good. He is formula feed. Maybe it’s just to do with the latching to support you. I haven’t had him weighed since 6 weeks so don’t know how much he weighs now, he will be 9 weeks on Wednesday and has his baby check and immunisations on Thursday.. if they don’t weigh him this week I’m gonna take him in a few weeks to get weighed again.

SamanthaVimes · 05/09/2022 22:36

@KizboBaggins where does that put him on the centile chart in the red book? Is he roughly following a line?
There’s nothing wrong with short feeds on their own as long as nappies and weight is ok, some babies are more efficient than others.
With DD she would only ever do 5/10 mins unless she wanted to use it to go to sleep and she was on the 98th centile at 6 months!

SamanthaVimes · 05/09/2022 22:41

@KizboBaggins this is useful for understanding the centile charts

KizboBaggins · 06/09/2022 05:32

@SamanthaVimes thank you! He was between 25th and 50th when he was born, now he's right on the 50th centile - that's why it's confusing because he's clearly following a good trajectory! And lots of wet and dirty nappies lol

My boy decided 3.30am was time to get up this morning. 2hrs later he's starting to get tired and I'm wide awake

@NamelessBaby1 bless her, let us know what your HV says. Be interesting to see if you get a referral as well. Sometimes my boy feeds for a few mins but then just pisses about on the nipple for ages. Sometimes I swear he laughs at himself like it's the funnest game ever πŸ™„

SamanthaVimes · 06/09/2022 06:42

@KizboBaggins sounds like he’s completely fine then!

Back in the day I used a timer app with DD for feeds (haven’t bothered with DS). Her β€œbreakfast” feed used to be 2 or 3 minutes max. One boob only. I remember I always wanted it to be longer because my boobs would be really full from over night but because they were so full she was getting loads of milk really quickly

Mattieandmummy · 06/09/2022 07:33

@KizboBaggins if it helps my first was a very quick feeder too, no more than a few minutes literally and very often only only one side. I think it just means you have a fast let down and baby is efficient at transferring milk. My first certainly had no problems maintaining her 75th percentile and I fed her for just over two years. Number 2 baby looks like she's going to be exactly the same.

I remember being confused as to the level of concern from my HV around length of feeding with my first as she was clearly fine but I guess they have to tick the box and be seen to be doing something just in case there's an issue that comes to light later (not saying there is, suspect it's more arse covering from hv).

KizboBaggins · 06/09/2022 13:04

@Mattieandmummy @SamanthaVimes yep that's pretty much it - he's just had a "snack" now and it was one boob for 3mins...

HV also suggested I give him Infacol cause he's suffering from gas. Has anyone tried it? Does it work? I knew he was gassy but thought it was normal! Must be the fast let down

Mads96 · 06/09/2022 16:08

Hey all! Hope everyone is well 😊
@KizboBaggins his weight sounds good to me, my LB was 7lbs at birth and 11lb at his 6 week check and they were happy with that, i formula feed so maybe it is to do with how long he feeds but I don’t see any issue if he is gaining weight!

Has anyone bought their baby toys? I have a Playmat and sensory cards but read that the wrist and ankle rattles are good but not sure where to buy them. Was looking at Amazon but worried they might not have been through the proper safety checks and so I worry- think I could be overthinking it!

ShellUK09 · 06/09/2022 16:10

@KizboBaggins yes we use Infacol and it's been brilliant for our little one. Before infacol the wind would last for a couple of hours after the feed and she would be in such pain, and always at least 1 hour of winding. Now I can be done with a feed and winding within half an hour. It just brings all the gas into one bubble so it is easier for them to get it all out, and we usually get a very big burp or pump as soon as we bring her upright. It took ages to settle her without infacol. It hasn't worked for everyone on here, but it is definitely worth a try

KizboBaggins · 07/09/2022 08:03

@ShellUK09 thanks! We started on it yesterday so fingers crossed!

@Mads96 we've got a playmat and sensory cards - he couldn't care less about either of them at the minute lol. He quite likes this soft rattle we've got but honestly he's more interested in lights atm

We have some ankle and wrist rattles that I'm going to introduce when he's a bit older - not sure about safety but I'm gonna be watching him the whole time so I figure they'll be fine

Lianna93 · 07/09/2022 09:43

Hi ladies - I've been a bit MIA recently 😬

Been finding life hard atm. The cold baby & I got knocked us both for six but we're finally over that now.
She was being checked for CMPA so I've had to cut out dairy for the past month but we're challenging it now & everything seems to be going well so far 🀞🏻Unfortunately, it's meant I've dropped a lot of weight as dairy is pretty much half my diet & once you start looking at ingredients for things, you realise just about everything (unless it's vegan) has dairy in it πŸ™ƒ
I'm exhausted & currently working with the Perinatal team as I've developed PND πŸ™ƒ
Trying to keep myself busy & occupied by going for walks & attending the local breastfeeding group and visiting family but majority of my day is made up of contact naps, so it's very rare for me to get anything done - sometimes I have to just leave her to scream just so I can go for a pee or get some food 😩
I knew it was gonna be hard having a baby, but I never anticipated just how hard 😞

Hope you're all doing well πŸ’•

@KizboBaggins I've just had the health visitor here for the 8 week check and my baby is 12 lb 2 oz, he's also ebf. Started at 7 lb 14 oz. He doesn't feed for too long either. He's right on the 50th centile. Your baby has gained about the same amount as mine so not sure why they referred you.

Has everyone moved up a size in nappies yet? I've only just moved up to size 2 but they only go to 13 lbs and little man will be sizing up again in a couple of weeks at the rate his gaining weight lol

Mads96 · 07/09/2022 10:45

@missv556 My LB is in size 2 nappies and I find they fit much better than the size 1. I used a size 1 nappy the other day to use them up and they just weren't long enough and they leaked at the top. My first baby was still in newborn/ size 1 nappies at this point so he is definitely getting bigger quicker!

ChinChilly · 07/09/2022 11:00

@KizboBaggins I would take a guess that it’s just because they don’t know how much he is taking with breastfeeding, they’ve probs assumed he isn’t getting much in 10 mins, although he clearly is because he’s putting on weight. My HV is coming back out in 3 weeks because although she’s put weight on she’s dropped from 75th to 50th dunno how she’s a right milk monster.

@missv556 We’ve been in size 2s for a week or so now but I find the brands are all so different we were given a lot of nappies and pampers are definitely bigger than aldi nappies

@Mads96 We’ve got one of those really garishly bright and noisy playmats, I put her on regularly for about 5/10 mins most of the time she looks at me like I’m crackers but she looked like she slightly enjoyed it this morning

@Lianna93 ahh bless you, sounds like your doing everything right though! My LO loves a contact nap and sometimes I have to let her cry in her basket too to go to the toilet or sterilise bottles, I put her down asleep and she lasts 20 mins in the max and is then miserable because she’s tired πŸ™„ I just keep telling myself it’s temporary and it will pass soon, she’s still so little so I just go with the contact naps! Daytime TV is rotting my brain though πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚ take care of yourself lovely xx

KizboBaggins · 07/09/2022 11:08

@missv556 @Mads96 my boy has been in size 2 since a few weeks after he was born. He's only 11lb 4oz but I think he might be quite long. I might try and measure him lol

@ChinChilly that's how my boy is with his playmat. Just looks at me like "This is not a boob. Bring me my boob."

@Lianna93 sounds like you're having a tough time of it! Keep trying to get out though, it definitely helps. If I don't go out one day I can feel the difference for sure. I've been leaving baby with DH for 30mins or so while I walk the dog on a few days when he's being fussy and it's made a huge difference (although I do miss him!)

I think my baby might be broken - he's not that keen on contact naps! Mainly I think cause he smells my milk and just wants boob but then makes himself sick if he has it. He much prefers being in his pram to sleep at the minute. Who knows if it will last though!

ChinChilly · 07/09/2022 11:16

@KizboBaggins Ahh I’m glad you said that I thought she was just being lazy, I felt like I wasn’t doing enough with her and she might be bored πŸ˜‚ obvs not. Oh god lucky you, I’d love her to go down in her pram or basket even just for one nap so I could get some stuff around the house done. She rarely sleeps in her pushchair even when we’re out she doesn’t really moan just loves to look around…serious case of FOMO

missv556 · 07/09/2022 11:50

Glad I'm not the only one who's baby is not interested in the playmat etc. I put him in his bouncer with a couple of toys and he doesn't seem interested and he kicks off after a few mins but he'll stare into space in his moses basket and be having the time of his life laughing and smiling into the void 🀣
