Does anyone have any suggestions on how to get baby to drink more in one feed!? πŸ˜‚

George is nearly 10 weeks and he still only has 2-4oz per feed. Overnight he is really good and can go long stretches. But during the day it’s every 2 or so hours

SamanthaVimes · 30/08/2022 13:27

@annie1994 Do you think he’s eating more often in the day to fuel up for the night?

tbh if he’s sleeping well I wouldn’t mess with it unless you’re worried he’s not getting enough in total?

annie1994 · 30/08/2022 17:21

@SamanthaVimes yeh I’m sure he feeds a lot during the day to make up for the night - which of course I’d prefer! But I just wish he’d have more than 2 or 3 ounces a feed now he’s nearly 10 weeks but maybe I shouldn’t moan πŸ˜‚

ChinChilly · 31/08/2022 11:59

How’s everyone getting on? I think we’ve reached peak 6-8 week fussiness here, she’s sleeping well during the night (touchwood) but during the day she just wants to be in my arms, even dad won’t do, obviously I don’t mind snuggling all day but I’m struggling to get anything done πŸ€¦β€β™€οΈ

missv556 · 31/08/2022 12:35

@ChinChilly yep little dude is 7 weeks today and same. Brilliant night sleeper (last night was his longest stretch yet from 9.30-4!) but during the day he loves to be held and that's the only way he'll sleep deeply, he wakes without fail if you attempt to put him down. Last week was rough but this week is much better

ChinChilly · 31/08/2022 12:44

@missv556 my LO is doing around 9/10-3/4 then back down after a feed until around 6:30/7. Oh god yeah if I put her in her moses basket she lasts about 10 mins in there before screaming. She’s only just 6 weeks today but has been fussy for a few days now…hopefully it’s short lived for us all

missv556 · 31/08/2022 13:52

@ChinChilly was the worst few days of my life by far lol but I survived somehow. Nothing lasts forever

SamanthaVimes · 31/08/2022 16:17

We’re having 6 week fussiness as well, he’s pretty grumpy at the moment. Hoping it will ease off in the next couple of weeks.

KizboBaggins · 31/08/2022 16:26

Same over here. He's not too bad, bless him, but he's started randomly crying for what seems to be no reason. He does settle eventually but it's definitely tough! Feel very lucky that he'll sleep in both his bassinet and cot though (touch wood). I caved last week and gave him a dummy. Which he spits out half the time πŸ€·πŸ»β€β™€οΈ

Does anyone else just feel completely gross still? I'm pretty much healed up but even when I do my hair and make up (which has happened like twice in 6 weeks), I still just feel... gross. The postpartum body doesn't help. Nor the lack of sleep.

Coco9910 · 31/08/2022 16:55

@KizboBaggins yes! I just feel like I’m covered in leaked milk or sick at all times. I haven’t got many pictures of me and the baby since she was born as I just know I look like crap at the minute but I already regret not getting more pics with her when she was tiny!

KizboBaggins · 31/08/2022 16:59

@Coco9910 yep and even when I do myself up I just think what's the point cause I'm definitely gonna be covered in sick and milk within a few minutes...

I'm the same with pictures! I have so many of family with the baby but barely any of me with him. I've recently started taking selfies when he's on me and I look horrific but I think it's better than having none of us! He always looks gorgeous so it's worth it πŸ₯°

ChinChilly · 31/08/2022 18:17

Glad I’m not the only one with a fussy baby, these tiny humans are hard work 🀣

@KizboBaggins I feel pretty gross!. My hair always seems greasy, always covered in sick and I think I’ve got the postpartum stink my friends warned me of, no matter how much deodorant I use I’m abit whiffy by the end of the day! I weigh less now than I did pre pregnancy but my body is so different I feel bigger.

does anybody else oddly miss being pregnant or am I crazy? I had a rough pregnancy but I kinda miss feeling her little kicks and wriggles! And having an excuse for everything 🀣

SamanthaVimes · 31/08/2022 19:38

@KizboBaggins I definitely feel gross all the time! I’m either sweaty or covered in milk or sick (or worse)

ShellUK09 · 31/08/2022 19:45

@KizboBaggins yes I know what you mean, nowadays getting ready rarely includes time for make up or hair straighteners, I used to take time for granted! Now I do the bare minimum before getting back to do a feed, cuddle, or nappy change! I was weighed recently and I've got half a stone to loose to get back to the weight I used to be. I'm happily still wearing maternity jeans though as I just find them more comfortable!

A dummy has been a lifesaver for us, we don't go anywhere without one now. If she is struggling to settle the dummy helps her to settle most of the time.

@ChinChilly yeah I do, I miss the little kicks and the amazing feeling of growing a human, and the specialness of seeing the scans! Saying that though, I don't miss feeling unwell towards the end, or all the time in hospital due to high blood pressure. I've almost blocked out the severe morning sickness at the start. This Christmas will be a nicer one as I'll be able to eat! So yeah, I've picked up my contraceptive pill today!

ShellUK09 · 31/08/2022 19:58

@KizboBaggins forgot to say, and winding still takes up a fair proportion of the day! Overall she is starting to appear happier in herself and we have had lots of smiles this week so I'm hopeful she is gradually becoming a bit less fussy!

KizboBaggins · 01/09/2022 10:20

@ChinChilly @ShellUK09 urgh I still have over a stone to shift and I'm reluctant to try and cut down food yet cause of breastfeeding. Just trying to appreciate what my body has done and is doing and not be too hard on myself but it's tough!

And yes Chilly I definitely miss being pregnant! The extra weight was cute when he was in my belly. Now it's minging lol. I also miss the anticipation of him arriving, but then I remember labour and I'm so glad it's over!

Shell I'm glad you've had lots of smiles! My boy is still gassy and we're yet to have proper smiles (he's only 6 weeks though). Hoping to get some in the next two weeks!

Has anyones LO stopped straining to poop/pass gas yet? I know it can take a few months but it's awful seeing him squirm and struggle (he's not constipated just can't coordinate it yet), so looking for some light at the end of the tunnel!

ChinChilly · 01/09/2022 11:03

@KizboBaggins exactly, what all of our bodies have done is amazing and we won’t bounce back after 6 weeks, enjoy your baby and worry about the weight after. My labour and hospital stay was horrendous but I’ve kind of blocked out the bad stuff πŸ˜‚
my LO was 6 weeks old yesterday and we’ve had some actual smiles the last few days so smiles for you might be just round the corner! We’re still getting the squirming and straining to poop and pass gas…this girl farts like there’s no tomorrow aswell, I’ve heard her from across the room letting one rip

I can’t believe baby slept through the night last night 10:30-6 totally a fluke and won’t happen again tonight πŸ˜‚

weatherchange22 · 01/09/2022 11:44

I'm so jealous of the babies sleeping long periods !!!! Mine is so unsettled and not sleeping between feeds 😞😞😞

No smiles yet for us - 6 weeks and a day so hopefully soon

Absolutely exhausted but hoping each day she is more settled !! We've now changed her milk to prescription milk so really hoping we see a change but I suspect it may be reflux 😞

We've booked a cranial osteopath for next week as someone suggested that may help

I've got 7lb baby weight to shed so not too bad - just a bit wobbly and need to exercise really x

SamanthaVimes · 01/09/2022 13:19

@weatherchange22 I’m not getting long stretches of sleep yet either. They’ll get there eventually though!

KizboBaggins · 01/09/2022 13:51

@weatherchange22 @SamanthaVimes I'm getting 3hrs at a time so not super long stretches over here either! 6 weeks and 2 days. It'll happen eventually!

Coco9910 · 02/09/2022 10:05

@KizboBaggins i had a realisation that in the future, the baby is never gonna look at the pictures and think β€œwow Mum looks rough” so we just need to take the photos and cherish the moments! My baby is 4 weeks tomorrow and I feel like she’s grown so much already and I didn’t get enough pictures of her when she was tiny!

@ChinChilly i miss being pregnant! It’s a bit deep but what I think I miss the most is feeling like I was cared about. Like going to appointments and everyone wanted to make sure I was well and happy, then as soon as the baby’s born it’s all about them (rightly so) but no one asks about the Mum or how they’re doing and I found that’s when I needed to be cared for the most.

SamanthaVimes · 02/09/2022 10:16

@Coco9910 totally agree with you that once the baby is out mum is out on the back burner. I really felt that too.

NamelessBaby1 · 02/09/2022 10:23

@Coco9910 I was just thinking that yesterday; it's such a sudden shift and I feel like after all the physical trauma of labour never mind the 9 months prior we are just left to get on with it with no idea if our bodies are actually properly healed or not!
I'm definitely finding this 4th trimester so much more difficult than everything that went before, and that includes labour.

@ChinChilly what an amazing sleep, you must have felt like a new person lol πŸ˜†

Me and baby had a wee road trip yesterday to meet my colleagues for lunch, feel quite proud of myself for managing that! It's amazing the things we just took for granted previously that are now such a rigmarole!

ShellUK09 · 02/09/2022 10:45

@NamelessBaby1 that's great! It feels like a big achievement now going for a day out with a baby, well it is a big achievement with all the stuff you have to take and nappy changes and feeding to think about. We went out yesterday for the whole day and ended up changing her nappy and feeding her in the car! Sometimes it's not easy to find places to go for nappy changes (plus many public toilets are gross) so it was just easier to use the back seat! It felt good to have a normal day again though, plus it tired her out and she slept quite well last night πŸ™‚

annie1994 · 02/09/2022 13:56

@Coco9910 I agree! Us mums get completely forgotten about once baby is out. One of my friends got us some baby grows and some body spray for me . It was only a cheapish one but it was so nice that someone actually thought about me as well!!

I had a c section and also feel like everyone forgets I had major surgery. After the first couple weeks, apart from my mum, everyone else expected to me to be back to normal πŸ™„
