@ChinChilly I know, I thought the same but then I was like I'm definitely over thinking this - he's 7 weeks old, he's not gonna be engaging much yet. And I know if I start putting pressure on him and myself to engage I'll end up worrying about his development unnecessarily. Right now he's just a perfect little eating, pooping, sleeping machine who throws me the occasional smile that makes the sleep deprivation and stress worth it

ShellUK09 · 07/09/2022 11:59

@missv556 it's crazy how some things only last a few weeks with babies. I thought that when I got little bottles and before we knew it we needed bigger bottles due to the increased amount she was having, wish I'd not bought them! We are still in size 1 nappies but our little one is only on the 2nd centile, she was 5 pound when born and she is only 9 pound 6 ounces now at 10 weeks. She is so cute πŸ₯° and on the plus side we are getting the most out of the Moses basket which will fit her for a while yet! Health visitor came yesterday for her routine check and all was well. Doesn't seem like I will see a health visitor for a home visit again now until she is a year old, apparently it has all changed where I live and a nursery nurse now does the weaning visit. At least we can go to the baby clinic to get her weight checked every now and again though

SamanthaVimes · 07/09/2022 12:34

@missv556 we’ve gone up to size 3 nappies already. DS just kept peeing through the size 2s and leaking onto his clothes, I got really bored changing his nappy every hour so he didn’t get wee everywhere! Luckily the size 3s can hold loads more and he’s a chunky little thing so they don’t look too big on him, although hopefully we won’t need to size up again for a while!

SamanthaVimes · 07/09/2022 12:37

@Lianna93 sorry to hear you’ve been struggling! It’s brutal isn’t it, I don’t think anything can really prepare you for the reality of it. Hopefully things will start to feel easier soon.

ChinChilly · 07/09/2022 13:29

@KizboBaggins exactly that, we should probably just enjoy these times they’ll be moving around before we know it and it will be constantly trying to entertain them lol

@ShellUK09 we did exactly the same with the small MAM bottles, she’s on the max they will hold now so we’re gonna have to buy the bigger ones over the weekend! Also gotta but a new steriliser because the big bottles don’t fit in the Tommee tippee one we’ve got πŸ€¦β€β™€οΈ My LO looks huge in her Moses basket 😒 for the whole 15 mins she’ll stay in it πŸ˜‚

Lianna93 · 07/09/2022 13:30

Thank you my lovelies - feel so out of touch with you all. I don't even know where the time goes these days, I swear I blink & it's a new week again πŸ™„

Glad I'm not the only one struggling to put baby down. If she's not on me, she's not happy at all. All I want to do is have a bath, have a glass of wine & read a book πŸ˜πŸ˜‚ Might ask for that for my birthday! πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

My little one also isn't keen on playtime yet 😬 Screams the place down if I even dare give her tummy time πŸ˜‚ but HV didn't have any concerns with her development at her 6 week check. Just waiting on my GP doing the rest of the 6 week check & check me. My wee one has her first set of jags next week... any tips on how to get through this next phase? πŸ™ƒ

SamanthaVimes · 07/09/2022 17:03

@Lianna93 the babies will get more alert over the next few weeks. My top tip is don’t try to spend all day entertaining them! Watching you go about your day is just as interesting to them as their toys. Just narrate your day as you go (you will feel ridiculous initially but after a while you’ll find yourself doing it when you’re not even with the baby)
Try and get out of the house a few times a week if you can. Especially if it’s a bad day. Just go for a walk with baby in pram or sling and put your headphones in
There will be good days and bad days but literally everything is a phase. I know that sounds really trite but I promise it’s true!

For the jabs just try not to plan anything important on that day or the day after as baby will almost certainly be fussy after the 8 week and 16 week ones (the 12 week ones aren’t as bad because there isn’t the meningitis one which is what gives them the fever). Make sure you’ve got calpol in the house for the fever!

ShellUK09 · 07/09/2022 22:00

@ChinChilly yes the mam bottles, that's what we have and I wish someone had told me to just buy the bigger ones straight away! Ah that's typical about the steriliser! I got a Milton cold water sterilising unit and it's great, it's so simple to use. Ah we have a mixture throughout the day of naps in the
Moses with her dummy and time in her bouncer to look around and interact more. Lately she likes to practice her talking, if I say hello to her, she tries to say hello back but it just sounds like "lowwww" and she always smiles broadly when she does this πŸ₯° I'm bias but I think she is a little genius!

@Lianna93 aaah you should ask for that as part of your birthday present, seriously! That would be an amazing present and it would make you feel great. The weeks really fly right now and I want them to slow down a bit, I feel like I have missed the whole summer and now the nights are getting darker already, must be as we are constantly busy and thinking ahead to the next feed/nappy change etc 😜

Mattieandmummy · 08/09/2022 03:24

@Lianna93 sorry to hear it's been hard. My first was a contact napper and it really got me down until I resolved to myself to enjoy the slower pace of life that had essentially been forced upon me. I treated myself to an Audible subscription and DH got me one of those thermos mug things. I was actually quite sad when our contact naps came to an end.

KizboBaggins · 08/09/2022 06:40

I've got up this morning to sort some things, baby boy is still sleeping so I've set the baby monitor up and have left him upstairs in his cot.

He's 7 weeks old and even though I can see he's fine I feel awful leaving him up there... I'm not going to make a habit of it, but just wondered if anyone else has used the baby monitor yet? I know you shouldn't let them sleep alone until 6 months but is it ok for some naps? It would be handy to be able to get stuff done without creeping around trying not to wake him 😬

ChinChilly · 08/09/2022 07:20

@ShellUK09 ahh I haven’t looked at the cold water sterilisers, I’ll have to look into them. What teat size is your LO on with the mam bottles? Mine is still in 0 everytime i give her a 1 she’s sick after, guessing because she guzzles it.
ahh bless her that is soo cute!

@KizboBaggins I haven’t even brought a monitor yet πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚ I’ve left her in her cot or Moses basket for 20 mins while I do some bits, I wouldn’t worry about leaving him for naps to be honest, I always think if I was a single momma, I would have to leave her to have a shower etc..

ShellUK09 · 08/09/2022 09:46

@ChinChilly mine is mainly using size 2 teats now, although the size 1's are still ok she just seems better with the size 2. She also guzzles down her milk quick! She used to take ages and now she wolfs it down in about 10 minutes! Which is better for the night feeds! Ah yes I'm loving having some interactions with her now πŸ₯°

Fizzybubblegumbottles · 08/09/2022 12:12

My LB had his immunisations this morning bless him gave him calpol straight after but I think it’s going to be a long day and night πŸ₯± he is 9 weeks old, weighs 11lb and has been in size 2 nappies a few weeks but fine pampers a bit big for him but tescos size 2 fit nicely.

He has been sleeping quite well during the night has a bottle between 9pm & 10pm then between 5 am & 6am we have introduced a bedtime routine- bath, bottle and bed. He has short naps during the day but would sleep for ages if he could sleep on me all day 🀣 back to school runs now so the movement of the buggy usually helps him nap for a bit.

@ChinChilly I use the mam bottles I mainly sterilise them in the microwave but I do have a washing up bowl which I use sometimes with 5 litres of cold water and Milton then cover it with a tray and leave for 15 mins then can be used straight away only cost me a couple of pounds 🀣 He is using size 2 teats now at first he was choking cos the milk was coming out to fast but has now got used to them.

@Lianna93 sending love hope you and your little one are doing ok. You’ve got this πŸ₯°

Hope everyone else and your babies are all doing well x

annie1994 · 08/09/2022 13:30

@Fizzybubblegumbottles @ShellUK09 how did you find going up to size 2 teats? My little boy was 11 weeks yesterday and he has such small feeds 2-4oz and am wondering if going up in teat size would make him have more in one go? But he spits out quite a bit of milk even just in size 1… not sure what to do πŸ€” he’s not particularly sicky so not worried about that!

Fizzybubblegumbottles · 08/09/2022 13:39

@annie1994 he did struggle a little bit with the flow at first but then he was fine once he could control it with his sucking lol. You could always try a size 2 and if not just change the teat back to size 1. My little one takes anything between 3 and 4 ozs every 3-4 hours apart from night time.

ShellUK09 · 08/09/2022 14:18

@annie1994 yeah same as @Fizzybubblegumbottles mine struggled a bit initially with size 2 tests and had milk running down her chin but she quickly got used to it and now she is fine with size 2. She has 4-5 ounces every 4 hours now, and a bit less throughout the night too. It's just trial and error to see what works, I've found feeds are much quicker now which is a relief.

kiwi17 · 08/09/2022 18:20

Had our 8 week physical check today with the gp and little man is now on the 98th centile for weight πŸ˜‚ not bad for a tongue tie and then a reattachment- anyone else got a chunk?

SamanthaVimes · 08/09/2022 22:20

@kiwi17 yep I’ve got a chunk! 6.2kg at 7 weeks and already in 3-6 month clothes because he’s really tall/long (I think the HV said he was 97th for height)

ChinChilly · 09/09/2022 07:25

@ShellUK09 @Fizzybubblegumbottles Thanks both, OH brought the dr browns steriliser and it dries the bottles, which I do love. I think I’m going to have to keep offering her teat size 1 to get her used to it otherwise she’ll be on 0 forever πŸ˜‚

@kiwi17 @SamanthaVimes Wow I thought I had a chunk πŸ˜‚ love a chunky baby though

We’ve had 2 nights of sleeping through, she slept from 10:30-6:30 has had a change and feed and gone back to sleep πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚ I wouldn’t mind being a baby

Fizzybubblegumbottles · 09/09/2022 08:18

@ChinChilly she will get used to the size 1s if you offer them to her. Aww that’s good bless her. I thought I was going to have a bad night after his jabs but gave him calpol, a bath and bottle and he went down about 10.30pm and woke up when my alarm went off at 6amπŸ₯±

ChinChilly · 09/09/2022 10:02

@Fizzybubblegumbottles I have offered her the size 1 a couple of time and she took it well but was sick afterwards each time. Ahh wow good on him, I’m dreading the jabs, she has hers on the 19th but hopefully she’s the unfazed like your little one

Fizzybubblegumbottles · 09/09/2022 10:10

@ChinChilly aww bless her well if she’s ok on size 0s stick to them for now lol. Ellis was sucking the life out of size 1s which I don’t think helps with wind either that’s why I went up a teat size. I gave calpol straight after he had them and then before he went to bed. I thought he was going to be so moany and clingy yesterday but he was quite sleepy and very happy when he was awake so I’m hoping it’s the same for your little one 🀞🏻🀞🏻🀞🏻

ChinChilly · 09/09/2022 11:21

@Fizzybubblegumbottles she only takes about 15/20 mins max to finish a feed but she always falls asleep on a bottle which I’m sure is a sign they’re ready to go up a teat size so might have to introduce her slowly. I’m deffo planning on getting the calpol in her straight after just incase. How did you find your LO took the calpol? Some people say their babies won’t take it, they must be crazy if I remember correctly that stuff is a taste sensation πŸ˜‚

Fizzybubblegumbottles · 09/09/2022 12:19

@ChinChilly bless her no rush lol yeah they get bored 🀣 yeah he took it fine lol even the oral rotavirus liquid he liked yesterday 🀣 the nurse said his a good boy babies usually spit it out.. my 2nd born at 6 years old still doesn’t let me give him medicine without a fight lol

Lianna93 · 09/09/2022 17:47

Breastfeeding mamas... bit of an odd one but how are your babies nappies?
My LO tends to have lots of runny ones that are typically green in colour & have been like for literally weeks. I was told she could be getting too much foremilk but I'm not convinced that's the reason for it tbh because she feeds so well & if she comes off the breast, I always reattach her until she's either done herself or she's gotten all she can from that breast, in which case, I'll offer her the other one.
