What should baby poo look like 4-5 wks old?
Changed from cow and gate to comfort to see if that helps with her unsettled ness

She's pooing more which I think is helping her as she has been straining a lot with nothing coming out beforehand

Health visitor said to see how she goes in the next week or 2 to see if this helps

GP also checked her over and said same
See how we go as she's still so small, could be colic etc

Just wondering as her poos are still quite runny/mustard and when I googled it said firm and squishy ?

SamanthaVimes · 20/08/2022 11:15

@summersun222 I don’t think they’re meant to firm up until you start weaning

summersun222 · 20/08/2022 11:22

@SamanthaVimes ah thought so thank you! Just worrying as she's unsettled and thinking it may be looser but it sounds normal

Also another question finally getting the prep machine out today now she's up to 4oz

We've just ran a cycle or tried and it says to use a Milton tablet ? Don't remember this from
The instructions

Stupidly we got it ready when she was born and when we opened it as we had our water in 4 wks ago the filter was mouldy!

So new filter, cleaned outside and now need to run a cleaning cycle but confused about this Milton tablet which we don't have (we have the fluid )

Mama's I'm needing advice/tips!

DH & I have came down with colds & no doubt the wee one will be next.
Everything I'm seeing for babies is 2 months or older (calpol, vapour rub etc...)
What can I do to make her feel better/more comfortable when she gets it? 😩

@summersun222 I think runny poop is normal for now, my LOs is runny I think @SamanthaVimes is right they don’t firm up until weaning.

Not sure about the Milton tablet for the prep machine and OH set it all up and did the cleaning cycle! But I’ve returned mine to Tommee tippee because I tested the temp of the hot shot and it wasn’t getting up to 70 degrees every time so just keep an eye on that too.

@Lianna93 I’m sure you can use a saline spray for congestion but I think that’s about it, maybe ask the GP or pharmacist if she gets it.

I think my LO might have eczema on her face 😒 she had a typical β€˜newborn rash’ as the doctor called it but it doesn’t seem to be settling and it’s looking abit angry, it was making her really unsettled last night. Me and OH both had terrible eczema as kids so it was bound to happen πŸ™„

SamanthaVimes · 20/08/2022 13:05

@Lianna93 annoyingly there isn’t much you can do.
Saline spray I think you can (although check first)
If you have a bath / shower the steamy air can help
If you’re breastfeeding apparently squirting milk up their nose is meant to help.
DS has definitely caught his sisters cold and it’s made him quite grumpy

All the good stuff is 2 or 3 months +
For future reference the calpol plug in is great when they get to 3 months

CaptainCarp · 20/08/2022 20:07

@missv556 I've not used a mat but I got a bookstart bag which has a "tummy time" fold out book so put baby on the sofa (flat & wide IKEA sofa) & she's been looking at that.
She prefers doing tummy time on DP though & loves looking round then headbutting him πŸ˜‚

@KizboBaggins our bedroom has been 23 degrees & baby is just in a sleepsuit with a cellular blanket. She often kicks the blanket off so I think at least she's got full pajamas on. 24/25 she's had a long sleeve vest & over 25 she just had a short sleeve vest on.
Always been warm when I've felt her.

I have a 0.5tog sleeping bag which I haven't tried yet as I wanted her to be able to kick off the blanket if she was too warm.

ChinChilly · 22/08/2022 10:33

oh good god we’ve had a terrible night here, I feel like LO has been awake all night fussing, this would happen as OH is back at work! She has literally only just gone to sleep…could only be another half hour cat nap though. No point in the post…just moaning…send help

CaptainCarp · 22/08/2022 12:02

Oh no @ChinChilly sorry to hear! I swear babies know when dad goes back to work. My baby girl went very fussy when DP went back & wouldn't be put down.

She did however go to him for cuddles when he got home so I could shower / move off the sofa!
It got better after a couple of days but it felt like hell getting so little sleep. Fingers crossed its a better night tonight!

Fizzybubblegumbottles · 22/08/2022 12:26

@ChinChilly bless you sending you a virtual hug πŸ€— some days are hard! Hope you have a better day today and tonight 🀞🏻
It’s been quite a hard nearly 7 weeks for us- baby very unsettled and hardly sleeping- tried everything changed milks, colic drops, gaviscon etc. I saw Colief advertised so got some- started last Thursday and it’s made such a difference- eye watering at Β£20 a bottle but just seems so much more content now. Saw a similar product called co lactase which I picked up too a bit cheaper so been using both alternating it. It apparently breaks down the lactose in the milk so it’s easier to digest. Don’t seem like he has much wind now and is having more dirty nappies 🀞🏻

ChinChilly · 22/08/2022 12:52

@CaptainCarp @Fizzybubblegumbottles thanks both, she was so good the night before slept until 4:30 then back down 5:30-8:30 so last night was a shock to the system.
@Fizzybubblegumbottles I wonder if my LO is struggling with wind, she’s always farting and burping, she let one rip last night and it was that loud OH didn’t believe it was her and blamed me but last night she was flapping her arms and legs around like she was uncomfortable

ChinChilly · 22/08/2022 13:01

@Fizzybubblegumbottles I just looked the Colief up, not sure if you know but it’s on boots advantage card price atm for Β£13.50

Fizzybubblegumbottles · 22/08/2022 13:01

@ChinChilly bless her. I think they all have their off days/nights.
Haha 🀣 I know sometimes I really can’t believe something so loud can come out of someone so little!! I’ve tried infacol, dentinox and gripe water which all did help to bring the wind up but it got to a point where he was screaming for hours in the evening so it was my last resort lol! Hasn’t had a screaming episode since being on the new stuff 🀞🏻 been giving him a bath in the evenings too as that defo helps soothe him.
Have you tried any colic drops?

Fizzybubblegumbottles · 22/08/2022 13:03

@ChinChilly yes thank you that’s where I saw it advertised! Picked up a bottle for Β£13 in Superdrug but when not on offer it’s Β£20 πŸ₯΄ worth it if it means his settled though! The smaller bottles are about Β£12.

ChinChilly · 22/08/2022 13:06

@Fizzybubblegumbottles Β£20 is abit steep, I guess they grow out of colic so possibly won’t have to fork out for it for long. If we have another night like last night I’ll try anything lol not sure how you’ve managed 7 weeks of it

Fizzybubblegumbottles · 22/08/2022 13:11

@ChinChilly around 3/4 months so hopefully only a few more weeks left 🀞🏻but it’s a 90 drop bottle and I only use 2 bottles per feed cos I pre make them for the day otherwise have to wait half an hour before you can give them the milk. The co lactase which is Β£10.70 lasts 60 feeds it’s 4 drops but can feed instantly so I give that at the night feeds/early morning.
Me too if I’m honest I’ve really been struggling and have been at my wits end! His my third and defo has been the hardest one! Defo no more for me he would put anyone off 🀣 love him lots especially when he has the biggest smile on his face!

ChinChilly · 22/08/2022 13:51

@Fizzybubblegumbottles oh gosh we’re not even 5 weeks in yet πŸ˜‚ ahh ok I’ve asked OH to pick some co lactase up on the way home hopefully it’s helps all her fidgeting and we get a better night. I think this rash on her face is irritating her aswell gonna give the cream the doctor gave us a few more days then take her back πŸ™„
I can imagine I was struggling last night I was starting to get frustrated because I just didn’t know what to do for her I’d tried everything but then as you say when they look at you especially with this one’s big blue eyes

Fizzybubblegumbottles · 22/08/2022 13:59

@ChinChilly it will get easier! fingers crossed it works for you 🀞🏻Yeah if it don’t clear up take her back. My little ones rash has gone now. It’s so horrible when you can’t do anything and they are suffering! So cute lol

SamanthaVimes · 22/08/2022 14:00

I saw a private ibclc today (nothing seriously wrong but DS really gassy/unsettled and not pooing as often as he’s meant to so was a bit worried about that)

It was sooo nice for someone to actually have the time to listen to me properly! DS is already more chilled after her advice and I’ve got a plan of what to do now.

ChinChilly · 22/08/2022 14:13

@Fizzybubblegumbottles her rash has been awful patch’s of it have got so inflamed and sore, it was her chin but that’s cleared now it’s on her ears, I’m not convinced it’s just a newborn rash. I know that’s the hardest bit and not being able to communicate what’s wrong.

@SamanthaVimes glad you got some support, it really makes a difference when you feel like you’re being listened to

strawberrysummer19 · 22/08/2022 14:33

Hi everyone how are we all?

Seems to be some unsettled babies on here atm
Least I'm not the only one

We swapped to cow and gate comfort Friday and infacol we've been on for a while
She's pretty hit and miss with the unsettled ness but today since early morning she has been super unsettled!

Beginning to get us down a bit - doesn't seem she's very content most times

Contemplating the colief / lactase drops

I take it I'd ditch the infacol ?

Not sure that's helping but do wanna keep
Going with the milk as health visitor says to see if any change in 2 weeks

Does seem lots of trial and error x

Fizzybubblegumbottles · 22/08/2022 15:10

@ChinChilly could it be eczema? Bless her hopefully it does clear up soon!

@strawberrysummer19 how does she seem on the milk? The amount of times I’ve changed milk is just ridiculous! His on Kendamil now has been for a week and seems ok on it. Been using Colief since Thursday and co lactase since Saturday I have seen a difference in him. I’m not sure if you can still use infacol but I haven’t needed to since starting these drops.
It really is trial and error and lots of money 🀣😩

ChinChilly · 22/08/2022 15:46

@Fizzybubblegumbottles I think it’s eczema me and OH both had it growing up and OH occasionally gets a flare up. I really didn’t want her to get eczema as I know how shitty it can be

@strawberrysummer19 glad I’m not the only one with a fusspot but sorry you’re dealing with it too, feeling pretty down about it here aswell, not gonna lie cried a little this afternoon feel abit helpless because I don’t know what to do for her. I would stick with the milk if I was you and maybe drop the infacol. I wonder if she’s got something like silent reflux…infacol can make that worse due to the orange flavouring.

OH could only find dentinox today near his work but I’m down to try anything at this point

strawberrysummer19 · 22/08/2022 16:51

@Fizzybubblegumbottles sorry you've had similar issues, so hard not knowing what the right thing to do is

@ChinChilly yeah I may drop the infacol I mean if she's that unsettled today can't see how that's helping anyway.

Not sure how she is on the milk, doesn't seem loads better but then doesn't seem worse ? It's a bit inconsistent

But will keep going with it

She's also very grungy like she is struggling

I did think about silent reflux but she's also been sicky today so possibly reflux

Felt a bit crappy today as felt haven't gotten much done and feel so horrible when she's in discomfort and not looking forward to another sleepless night!

And this is shared with my partner - god knows how people do this alone, know they have no choice but even for people with partners back at work - hats off to you! X

ShellUK09 · 22/08/2022 17:41

I can relate with you all with fussy babies. I've got a very fussy baby today too, well the last 24 hours she has barely slept so I've barely slept too! Not sure if she caught a touch of covid or had a cold when we did but she isn't happy right now, we have bought a nasal spray as she was all blocked last night. At what point does it become easier? When will they sleep through the night? She just wants to be rocked or held most of the time. I feel sorry for my partner having to do a full day's work after usually very disrupted nights. We do try to spilt the nights so we both get some sleep but it never feels enough. Just a bit of extra sleep would massively help our state of minds right now.

We have tried infacol and it worked wonders for us, prior to that she would be in pain for an hour after a feed but now she winds very easily. Using a dummy helps us for when we just need a half hour break! She also loves being in the pram and will fall asleep straight away there.

Our issue right now is she just doesn't seem to want to sleep upstairs in the next to me crib, she tosses and turns and makes little noises all night, thinking of switching to the Moses basket which we have downstairs to see if that makes a difference, it's smaller so I think she feels cosier there. Got her 6-8 week check and injections this week so that won't be a good night's sleep either, got capol at the ready!
