@missv556 you’ve got that to come!! 🀣 the amount of times my 2nd child done a poo in the bath πŸ™„πŸ€£ oh lol atleast you are stocked up on size 2s! Yeah my boy was the same weighed 7lb at birth lost weight put it back on. He was 8.15 2 weeks ago and 10lb now at 6 weeks. Bless him lol chunky babies are so cute!

missv556 · 17/08/2022 16:56

@Fizzybubblegumbottles his cheeks are so chubby, you just wanna squeeze them 😍

KizboBaggins · 17/08/2022 17:45

Has anyone who is breastfeeding experienced foamy poos? From the baby I mean, not myself πŸ˜… he's pooing and weeing regularly but the poos have a definite foamy consistency... Dr Google says it's too much foremilk but I don't understand how I can force him to latch for longer to get hindmilk. I have quite a fast flow so I think it's filling him up within a few minutes

@missv556 my little one has been in Tesco size 2 nappies since birth and he was only 7lb 4oz lol I bet I've been putting him in ones that are far too big πŸ˜‚ he's not had a leak in them though so I guess it's ok. He has got chunky legs too (which I just want to eat!)

@Fizzybubblegumbottles I've been bathing him every other day past week or so simply cause of the heat, but normally would only do twice a week I think! He's starting to enjoy it now too which is nice

Anyone had a smile out of their baby yet? He's only 4 weeks but I feel like it's going to happen soon! I can't wait

Fizzybubblegumbottles · 17/08/2022 18:02

@KizboBaggins I know it’s been really hot! That’s good bless him.
My son has been smiling since just before 4 weeks but only here and there, his 6 weeks now and smiling lots

Lianna93 · 17/08/2022 19:10

@KizboBaggins My little one had some foamy poos in her first week or so - like loads of little bubbles. Now they're super runny like soup 🀒 I've been told the same about her getting too much foremilk but everytime she unlatches & wants more, I always give her the same boob again so I'm not convinced that's the reason. This could tie in with the reflux or dairy intolerance πŸ€·πŸ»β€β™€οΈ
My little one is starting to find her voice, I'm not quite getting babbles but there's been a few 'coos' from her πŸ₯Ί I was convinced I was gonna get a smile from her today actually. She smiles tons in her sleep though which is super cute!

@KizboBaggins I asked my friend who is a lactation consultant about this as we also have a case of foamy poos and she said the fore milk/ hind milk idea is outdated. Apparently breast milk starts off at the beginning of a feed with the lower fat content milk and this gradually increases to the end of the feed but there isn't some magic switch between fore and hind milk which kind of makes sense. Her view was that it was more likely to be a fast let down and baby gulping air and that once they get a bit bigger they are able to deal with the volume better - which actually did happen with my first child.

missv556 · 17/08/2022 19:37

@KizboBaggins I had some size 2s from asda and they were just a bit baggy, had a couple leaks otherwise id have carried on with them. Not sure if it was the size or the brand tbf. And yes little man is smiling and it just melts my heart. He's got such a beautiful smile. Couple of days ago he was looking at me and he gave this massive smile and it was so cute I can't even deal. He does my head in at times but then he smiles and its instantly forgotten. He does lots of cooing too which is also cute af. Damn I love this kid lol

SamanthaVimes · 17/08/2022 19:48

@KizboBaggins I agree with @Mattieandmummy we’ve had some foamy poos here but I’m sure it’s the quick let down making him take in air.
Even if I let my toddler feed first he’s still like it and in theory that whole feed for him would be β€œhind milk”

KizboBaggins · 17/08/2022 21:08

@Mattieandmummy @SamanthaVimes thank you both - I think that makes sense. My let down seems very fast and he always has milk pooling around his mouth when he starts to feed. Fingers crossed he grows out of it

@missv556 that's adorable. I can't wait to see my little one smile!

kiwi17 · 17/08/2022 22:03

@KizboBaggins we've not had foamy poos but I think I have a fast let down too as he's just this week decided to pull off and scream about every 3 sucks on some of his feeds and will only stay on if I walk around breastfeeding stood up which is obviously masses of fun...πŸ™„ I'm really hoping it's a phase that he'll soon grow out of as I'm fed up of the screaming!

CaptainCarp · 17/08/2022 22:51

@Lianna93 I'm hoping that it's not a dairy allergy for you! Or if it is that its only to "whole" dairy & you won't have to read every packet to avoid milk.

@KizboBaggins yes we have had foamy poos! Either when my supply seems to up & she's dribbling milk all over the place until she catches up. Or a couple of times when she seems to have gulped a lot during feeds.

@Fizzybubblegumbottles we've just moved up into size 2s (7 wks) & she's 10lb 12oz. She started in size 0s though the size 1s weren't leaking but we couldn't get the velcro tabs fully together.
We've used pampers (all free) & tescos so far. Oh & the 3 freebie lupilu 1s from the bounty pack but she leaked out of every one of them!
Just been given a part pack of aldi size 2 so will see if those fit. She did have quite skinny hips/legs though & has only just started to chunk up.

Bath is probably 1 maybe 2 a week. Should do more really as she enjoys it.

AppleTree16 · 18/08/2022 06:43

@KizboBaggins the heat will be affecting it too. Your body naturally makes breast milk more watery for hydration purposes when it’s hot - making poos frothier and sometimes a bit green. If it’s temporary and switches back to normal with the cooler temps then it’s nothing to worry about.

missv556 · 18/08/2022 07:40

Has anyone else been using a playmat or anything like that for tummy time? I havent used mine yet but think it's time now. Just tried mister on his tummy on the bed and he was trying to crawl lol

Fizzybubblegumbottles · 18/08/2022 09:32

@CaptainCarp oh bless her lol yeah I used size 1 from birth but the tabs overlapped 🀣 same here lol for some babies it becomes their bedtime routine once they start sleeping through the night.

SamanthaVimes · 18/08/2022 10:09

@missv556 yeah I’ve put DS on the floor with a couple of things to look at near him (mostly when we’ve done the whole change, feed, burp routine and he’s still awake so I’m wondering what to do with him πŸ˜…)

He looked like he was trying to crawl too almost like he was doing the breaststroke which was funny. He actually rolled over to his back yesterday which shows what he thinks of my efforts πŸ˜‚

KizboBaggins · 18/08/2022 10:28

@AppleTree16 that's a good point! It's cooled down a bit today so hopefully will start to ease off now.

@kiwi17 god that sounds exhausting! Your poor arms lol.

@missv556 I've done a little bit on the mat, but tbh he gets plenty of neck action when I put him on my chest to burp him mid-feed as he insists on repeatedly throwing his face into my sternum trying to find the boob lol

What are people putting their little ones in at night? I know temps will vary across the country but it was 21 in our room last night so he had vest, babygro and blanket over him but he just kicks the blanket off so I worry he'll get cold. I have a 1.5 tog sleeping bag but google says he should be in a 1 tog in this temp. I have no idea if that half a tog would make him too hot or not

summersun222 · 18/08/2022 11:50

My lO has been quite unsettled at times after feeding

We started on infacol and I'm sure it helps getting wind up but it's seems so inconsistent and she's not unsettled after every feed

But it does seem she is going longer periods being uncomfortable if that makes sense

She's 4 weeks old and formula feeding cow and gate - I know there is a comfort formula so wondering if I should change her ?

Have called the health visiting office and not sure what else to do or to call GP?

Was under the impression to keep going
She's only so young and maybe just to see how she goes but with that said hate seeing her uncomfortable

Have tried massage, bicycle legs baths etc
Just seems a little frustrating and hard work at the moment

She's sort of windgey and lots of grunting and straining yet she is pooing just not as often as I would like - every couple of days but then had 2 yesterday

Can anyone help?

X

Lianna93 · 18/08/2022 18:05

Anyone have any experience with Carobel for reflux?

OP posts:
KizboBaggins · 18/08/2022 18:55

@summersun222 my boy is EBF and he's exactly the same. I guess it's just gonna happen until his digestive system can catch up with what he's drinking! It's awful watching him struggle but HV assures me it's normal... I've been lucky so far that his discomfort happens more during the day than at night. It's still exhausting though and kind of a vicious cycle because he gets gas from feeding then when he's struggling he wants the boob for comfort which just gives him more wind

NamelessBaby1 · 18/08/2022 19:55

@KizboBaggins @summersun222 also EBF and having the same issues with baby being very unsettled after feeding, and trying to wind her for some time. Getting quite a bit of spit up happening for a wee while after she's fed too. Currently we can only get her to settle after she's puked then we walk around and speak to her for a while and give her a dummy to sook on. Also just coming up for 4 weeks , so must be quite a common phase for them all!

It's really all quite exhausting isn't it?! I managed to get out to a breastfeeding group on Tuesday morning, but it was such an effort to get to it lol. Glad I went though!

KizboBaggins · 18/08/2022 19:58

@NamelessBaby1 I also went to a breastfeeding group except when I got there it was literally just me πŸ˜… not a single other person turned up. It was nice to get out of the house though!

We're getting lots of spit up too. Can take an hour or so to settle him sometimes. I haven't tried him with a dummy yet... I'm reluctant to give him one cause I know people who've struggled to get rid of them when they're older but I bet I break soon lol

NamelessBaby1 · 18/08/2022 20:05

Haha, I had the same aim with the dummy, it lasted precisely 3 nights until we couldn't get her to stop screaming and my husband broke out the emergency one he bought and it worked lol, so there went that plan! My HV says it can be a good thing if being used to help them sleep though - just make sure it's taken off as soon as they are over and not to give it when they are wide awake.

What a shame you were the only person! There were a quite a few other mums where I went, and I was greeted with a cup of tea and biscuit which was amazing in itself lol.

KizboBaggins · 18/08/2022 20:08

@NamelessBaby1 I also have an emergency dummy stashed away upstairs πŸ˜‚ I've read it can be beneficial too, so if I do break I won't feel too bad about it!

Aww that's lovely! HV said there will be more people there once summer holidays are over hopefully

SamanthaVimes · 18/08/2022 20:27

@NamelessBaby1 I managed to go to a breastfeeding group today. First one I’ve been to as it was all online with my first.

It was really nice, if anyone is feeling nervous about going. Mostly just a chat with other mums with volunteers making sure nobody was on their own / had a chance to chat about any concerns.

I’ll definitely go again

NamelessBaby1 · 18/08/2022 21:31

@SamanthaVimes glad you had a good experience too - I was quite nervous at going partly because of the boobs out in public thing but also I'm more of an introvert, however the volunteers were so lovely and made me feel so welcome, and there was enough of a range of other mums to make me feel very at home and comfortable. I'll definitely be back too, even if the feeding is going well, it's just nice to meet other people at around the same stage!
Ah that makes sense @KizboBaggins , hopefully it's better attended next time then, and yes definitely don't feel guilty if you eventually feel the need to use it! It's been a lifesaver for us already as she is sooo loud when she cries!!
