Shouldn't midwives be discussing this shortage with pregnant women who are due in a matter of weeks!! X

110APiccadilly · 08/08/2022 20:14

So baby had grown today, but is still very small, so I'm booked for an induction in a week's time. I'll be 36+5 then which is amazing, really didn't think I'd get that close to 37 weeks. Looking forward to meeting baby now!

Butterflytulip · 08/08/2022 20:35

@110APiccadilly what was the weight? Iv a growth scan this week, I'll be 36 weeks.

Butterflytulip · 08/08/2022 20:35

@110APiccadilly what was the weight? Iv a growth scan this week, I'll be 36 weeks.

Estimated as just under 2kg, which is about three weeks behind I think. However, my last growth scan also put baby about 3 weeks behind, so at least baby's being consistent here!

Butterflytulip · 08/08/2022 21:17

@110APiccadilly I would have thought it was best to keep baby in especially as they are growing each time you get a growth scan. My
Little one was 4lb 5oz at 34 weeks. My first born also tracked the same weight and was born healthy at 40 weeks. Hope you are ok about going in every, they make the right decision for mummy and baby

Sweetbabydust1989 · 08/08/2022 21:59

@110APiccadilly is there any reasons for the low weight?? My first born was born at 38 weeks and he was 4lb 7oz.

annlee3817 · 09/08/2022 06:25

Ugh, I've been awake since 3.50am 😴 feet are already swollen again just from sitting at my desk, love this stage of pregnancy 🙄 37 weeks today though

110APiccadilly · 09/08/2022 07:14

@Butterflytulip as I understand it, the received wisdom with very small babies is that once you get to around 37 weeks, so lung development etc is complete, it's better for them to be out as they'll generally grow quicker out than in. I think there's also a concern that if the placenta were to begin to fail then baby would be at risk more quickly than a normal sized baby, not that my placenta has shown any signs of that so far.

@Sweetbabydust1989 no reason that they know of, but my first was also born at 38 weeks and at 4lb 8oz, so pretty much the same as yours. In her case no one realised until after she'd arrived that she was small, so it's been a very different experience of pregnancy this time round. The opinion of the consultant is just that I make small babies! It's actually quite reassuring to me, because DD thrived once born, and while still on the small side, there's no concerns at all about her now.

madeleine85 · 09/08/2022 08:14

@110APiccadilly sorry your little one is struggling with growth, but it’s always good when they at least progress at a % they’re at rather than falling off. You’re so close, 36+5 is great! If they were seriously concerned and you’re over 32/34 weeks your baby would be out already, so it’s good signs all round!

Butterflytulip · 09/08/2022 09:32

@110APiccadilly less than a week now!! Very exciting

I had reduced movement this morning. Phoned clinic and just did what they said. Toast and sugary drink and lie left side and all seems ok

GlitteryGreen · 09/08/2022 14:06

Oh my gosh, just returning from a week away, congratulations to everyone with new arrivals ❤ Hope you're all doing well, and those who are booked in too.

It's crazy that it's actually so close for us all now...it still doesn't feel it for me, feel like I just won't get my head around it until the baby is actually here. Haven't packed my hospital bag or set anything up at home yet 🙈

A couple of questions:

Has anyone else struggled with their birth plan? I feel like I am so indecisive and I'm so worried about not putting an epidural in from the start and then wanting one and not being able to get it (hopefully shortages don't seal this one for me)😫Wish there was a way to try all these things out beforehand!! It's first time for me so I have no idea how I'm going to handle it. Really don't want to put the birthing pool into the plan and then it turns out not to touch the sides, and then it's too late to transfer......even though I'd like to try the pool!

Also, has anyone else had positive urine tests all the way through?! Every time I do a sample I am asked if I have any itching or burning as it's constantly coming back as positive for lucocytes. I have done 2 thrush treatments and a course of antibiotics for e.coli and it's still coming back the same :-/ Never had any itching or burning ever.

Fortuny · 09/08/2022 17:44

Hello, can I join late? FTM due end of September, woefully under prepared atm , and feeling a bit down and overwhelmed if I'm honest.

Soooo, in a bid for distraction from important stuff I should be doing... I'd love to hear what are everyone's hospital bag snacks of choice? 😁

Sweetbabydust1989 · 09/08/2022 18:55

@GlitteryGreen I have had a few positive tests which was weird as I had no burning or itching.. can you not ask to be referred to a consultant midwife to talk through your birth plan?? I had one and she done a robust birth plan for me so I no key dates and what will happen through my Labour for example I will be having a sweep at 38 weeks 4 days and my induction booked for my due date.. I am having a water birth but if my Labour becomes too long I will be moved to have an epidural xx

Redapple21 · 09/08/2022 19:39

@GlitteryGreen @Sweetbabydust1989 I've also had a few positives for leukocytes and my midwife doesn't seem concerned as I've had no symptoms, she says it's probably from discharge. From another WhatsApp group I'm in I think it can be quite common for them to show up. X

Sweetbabydust1989 · 09/08/2022 19:47

@Redapple21 that's exactly what my midwife said it could be discharge that's got into the sample while peeing let's face it it's hard peeing into those pots when you have a massive bump 😂 I only knew about them when I looked on the app that stores my notes xx

Redapple21 · 09/08/2022 19:48

@Sweetbabydust1989 it's a nightmare isn't it, can't see a thing! Think I definitely hold it too close ...will try and hold it further away next time and see if that helps !!

Sweetbabydust1989 · 09/08/2022 19:51

@Redapple21 it sure is I do mine at home before midwife app now so I walk around with the one in my bag until I get to the hospital 😂 and I usually wipe before I pee into it just incase there is any discharge there xx

Butterflytulip · 09/08/2022 20:42

@Fortuny welcome and congrats!! Definitely nature valley bars yummy!!!

HaresHoping · 10/08/2022 03:55

Welcome @Fortuny ! Sorry to hear you've been feeling low, totally normal and natural I think but I hope you feel a bit better soon ❤️

Mine is tunnocks caramel wafers but I keep eating them 😂🙈 also got some haribo in there, nature valley bars (eating those too!), Lucozade electrolyte drinks, Cadbury brunch bars (the raisin and choc ones) and some other stuff I can't remember which is a good job otherwise I'd be off to dig it out now 😂 how about you?

Iv been awake since 4am!! Just hung a load of washing outside haha, when the weather is good in the UK you gotta get some washing on!!! I have a check up appt this afternoon. Be nice to know what baba's estimated weight is now, hoping for over 5lb now at 36 weeks 🤞🤞

I have packed baby bag but still not packed my own!!! Must do that soon!!

Hope everyone feeling ok, can't believe I only have 3 weeks to go ahhhhh!!!

Fortuny · 10/08/2022 11:59

Haribo is a good one @Hareshoping! Honestly not sure, I love crisps and really crave fresh fruit atm. Not sure either are appropriate for the labour ward. I'm also a terrible boredom/comfort eater and worry I'll hoover up the lot before I've barely gotten started.

Sweetbabydust1989 · 10/08/2022 15:16

@Butterflytulip you're one step ahead of me i haven't packed a single thing not even washed any of baby's clothes yet I cannot face doing it yet I am only 34 weeks 2 days so plenty of time I hope 😂 xx

Butterflytulip · 10/08/2022 15:30

Estimated weight 5lb 8oz at 36 weeks.
Happy with that, another check in 2 weeks and then it's the elective c section the week after! All getting very real now !!

@Sweetbabydust1989 haha get those baby clothes washed (maybe ironed!!!) and in a bag with the nappies etc!!!
I'll pack my own bag next week when I finish up work, I'll be 37 weeks then!! Also still need to bringing down the next to me, Moses basket, breast pump, changing bag etc, want to give them a chance to air for couple weeks!!

Mum2two2022 · 10/08/2022 15:39
