English Garden by the brand ANON is AF Pimm's alternative, not tried it but reviews are good. Tricky to get hold of but is on Amazon. I have litre bottles of Pimm's AND Aperol in the cupboard, would love an ice cold glass in the sun!

Ironically I think my sweet toot has got the better of me. Despite getting the all clear on my GD test two weeks ago, I reported glucose at my 28wk appointment. Hoping it's just poor food choices as I've had a very carb heavy week,

Does anyone have a simple GD meal plan? I think I need to watch my diet regardless of what comes back from blood tests.

Have you checked out the gestational diabetes website? They have loads of information on there. From there, I've discovered I'm allowed strawberries with double cream. I've had that a couple of times as a treat.

I'm still getting my GD under control. My fasting levels are too high so I'm now taking metformin twice a day.

Em85kk · 09/07/2022 21:11

@TurquoiseDreamCatcher what were your fasting levels? Mine are 5.6 ish but I’ve not had my first review yet. Bit unsure whether I should be contacting them about it, but got a phone appointment booked on Wednesday so was holding off until that.

TurquoiseDreamCatcher · 09/07/2022 21:44

@Em85kk my readings varied between 4.8 and 6.2. Because I had more than 3 readings over 5.3 for fasting the diabetic midwife said I had to start medication.

I sent a photo of my readings to the team looking after me and they booked be an appointment for after my growth scan to start the medication. I definitely would recommend contacting your team if you have any concerns. That's what they are there for.

I'm finding it hard to learn what I'm allowed to do and not allowed to do. I made a meal from a diabetic cook book that gave me the highest reading I've had so far. When k queried this with the midwife, she said there must have been an ingredient in it that I can't tolerate.

Breakfast is my nemesis. I've never enjoyed breakfast to start with but not I need to find something that I can tolerate.

Em85kk · 09/07/2022 22:00

@TurquoiseDreamCatcher I’ll try and call them as most of my fasting are out of range. I used to have porridge (instant sachet) and I knew they had lots of sugar, but when I started testing I thought I’d just give it a go and see. It’s was 10.2! Now I have gluten free seeded bread with peanut butter and a cup of tea with 1 sweetener and that seems to work for me. My other meals have mainly been ok too, I’ve just reduced size of carbs (rice, potato etc) and upped the veg, usually with meat or fish as protein. I’ve been adding lots of cheese too, as protein and fats help slow the release of sugar from carbs. It’s a lot to get used to, and the dietician said to try and have some form of carbs with every meal, which isn’t something I’m used to. It’s crazy how some people can tolerate one thing, but for another it sends their numbers high.

Butterflytulip · 09/07/2022 22:13

@Paprikapommes I have GD.
Every week day for me is pretty similar.
Eggs and toast for brekkie. Salads with salmon/chicken/tuna for lunch. Dinner same I'd always have but I just watch portion of pasta, rice etc. I tend to leave 2-3 hrs between eating. Snacks are Alpen bars, 3 choc fingers, fruit etc
It's just watching your carb content.
I find that it's helping me control my weight gain as I can't afford to snack!
Non alcohol gin and slim line tonic is my go to drink in this warm weather!!

Butterflytulip · 09/07/2022 22:18

@TurquoiseDreamCatcher @Em85kk
I was started on insulin with dinner and then also insulin at night which helps my fasting ones as they were starting to creep up. It's the stage we are all at, the hormones are just doing there thing and there's nothing we can do.
Sometimes they'll start metformin tablets but cause my baby weighing small (similar to first pregnancy) I can't have metformin.

I had a Thai takeaway and a non alcoholic beer on fri night and my sugar was 9.0!!
I have tried the seeded bread too and it's defo much better to tolerate. I just pile it High with eggs, Cherry tomatoes and mushrooms.

Good advice there with pairing the carb with a fat to slow down the glucose rise.
I'd have apple slices with almond butter 😋
Also upping the veggies and slightly reducing carbs helps me too.

It's a minefield but only a little
While left to go!! Last time when I brought my daughter home I had a glass of wine with battered fish and chips, never tasted so good haha

Paprikapommes · 10/07/2022 00:11

Thank Butterflytulip that's really interesting, I'd have thought the last thing theyd stipulate is carbs.

Already have the AF gin Grin need to remember to get tonic, I'm out of practice!

Yes. Yes. Yes. It's making me so bad tempered. Plus the GD means I can't just live on icecream.

I need to tidy my house, I have someone coming over to measure up for carpets tomorrow. My 4 year old DD whirlwind has destroyed the house this weekend and I can't be arsed to tidy up.

Sweetbabydust1989 · 10/07/2022 19:17

@legaltigger me too!!! Swollen feet, hayfever and chronic backache I am kinda over being pregnant now... how the hell does anyone get comfortable I haven't slept for 4 nights 🥺 xx

legaltigger · 10/07/2022 19:31

@TurquoiseDreamCatcher @Sweetbabydust1989 we went to stay at my mums for the weekend. Not one fan in her house. Absolutely boiled. Came home to all of my fans, but still hot! Just soooo sick of being all sweaty!

Sweetbabydust1989 · 10/07/2022 19:34

@legaltigger oh my little one keeps laying funny and just beats the crap out of my insides 🙈 I have the worst pain in my legs tried everything to help it nothing is working 🥺 xx

legaltigger · 10/07/2022 19:42

Yes mine has been head down but the past couple of weeks has taken to doing very uncomfortable sometimes painful somersaults! All elbows etc. the downward kicks take my breath away. Praying that he continues to keep going back to head down though!! @Sweetbabydust1989

Would something like a cool bath be good do you think?

annlee3817 · 10/07/2022 22:31

Interesting to read how everyone is managing the GD, I've got my test next Sunday, all seems a bit pointless as will be 33+5... Will see though what it comes back with.

I've spent a good chunk of my day submerged in my DD's paddling pool with an AF beer, was lovely! Shame I can't sit in it tomorrow with my laptop.

Sweetbabydust1989 · 11/07/2022 10:03

@legaltigger mine has been breech but I think she turned last week my bump is lower and I can actually breath now but she can bob in and out joys of third pregnancy 😂🙈 I have another growth scan in a couple of weeks she is currently 3lb 2oz so she won't be a small baby I am so happy as I am high risk of dinky ones she might be the same weight as my second he was 6lb 7oz... my foot swelling has finally gone down and I feel much better today finally I was in so much pain for days xx

Sweetbabydust1989 · 11/07/2022 10:05

@annlee3817 my sil gets GD and quiet badly I am quite lucky as my brother is type 1 but my GD tests always come back clear I definitely have been eating so much better in this pregnancy that I have in all my life well apart from the 4 cupcakes I had yesterday 😂 xx

annlee3817 · 11/07/2022 10:11

@Sweetbabydust1989 lol I had two ice creams, and ice pop and some meringues 🤦

Sweetbabydust1989 · 11/07/2022 13:16

@annlee3817 I try not to eat stuff that will hurt on the way back up with my sickness usually it's meat it hurts throat dam reflux xx

annlee3817 · 11/07/2022 13:17

@Sweetbabydust1989 I'm finding that my morning Weetabix gives me immediate acid, so annoying

Em85kk · 11/07/2022 15:07

Anyone super tired? Had an afternoon nap yesterday and it was lovely. Struggling without one today!

amorningperson · 11/07/2022 20:48

Hi everyone! It’s been a while so have just caught up with last three pages. I’m with you guys on the what, though it hasn’t been horrific up in Scotland- still hottttrr though. My legs have been swelling like crazy most days and I need a good hour with them up for them to stop throbbing :/
31 weeks today and still haven’t done any real baby prep other than order some stuff/got some second hand bits.

when is everyone starting full on baby prep? I officially start mat leave end of august so I’ll probably start doing some proper washing and folding and organising then. We have some furniture that needs some rearranging before I can get started. I’ve been painting and renovating and sorting through old stuff in the attic. Feels great!

amorningperson · 11/07/2022 20:52

Woods accidentally sent that before finishing, just to say how tough those bad midwife experiences sound. With DC1 I had a horrible woman as my first midwife and asked to change, best decision ever and when I explained my reasoning the head midwife was so kind and supportive! Now I’m with the home birth team who are all lovely- my midwife did very relaxed which is great and just a friendly lady :)

much luck to those with GD sounds like you guys have such a big added stress and I really feel for you. Hoping you’re enjoying some GD friendly treats a bit and able to stay on top of it all and hopefully your teams are being supportive!!

in other news- movements have become so strong sometimes I’ll actually like ‘oomph’ when I get a particularly strong kick in the rib! It’s amazing and also slightly worrying :/

Those doing a homebirth- have you ordered your pool yet? I need to get cracking!

madeleine85 · 11/07/2022 21:30

@amorningperson last week I packed a hospital bag for me at 32 weeks, which was lucky as I ended up in hospital for the night that same week! Using the mentality that if I have the baby early, theres no chance that he will come home before 36-37 weeks, so i'll hold off on the actual baby things for a while yet. I have most of it, just haven't put it out in the flat as my DD will tear it apart, right now things are all hidden under sofas/beds or up high in cupboards.

TurquoiseDreamCatcher · 11/07/2022 21:35

In terms of baby prep, I've washed all the clothes - tiny size/first size/0-3. DH has been working on the nursery. I know the baby won't sleep in there for a long time, but we need somewhere to store her stuff.

We are going on holiday during the first week in August and I'm planning to pack a hospital to take with me - just incase. Then once we are back from holiday, I'll set the nursery/ next to me crib up and wait for the baby. We are having new carpets put down when we get back from holiday so I there isn't much point getting everything ready before then.
