Wow, really sorry to read people's shit midwife stories!!

I have seen several different ones so no continuity but they have always been on top of booking my next appointment each time. They do it there and then in the room, and then it's on my Badger Notes app, which sends a reminder the day before. They even booked my GTT and 30 week growth scan months in advance.

I am not too worried about who will be there at the birth though as my hospital is joined with another and the maternity ward is in the other hospital to my antenatal appointments, so chances are it's a completely different team there anyway, plus who knows who'd be on shift etc when it actually comes to it.

LaddieCthulu · 05/07/2022 11:10

I have at least had all my appointments booked in advance. In other ways I thought my midwife was a bit of a chocolate teapot though. She didn't explain fundal height measurement to me at all or show me on a graph. She tried to book me in for a GD test twice because she hadn't read her notes. Although reading others stories I think twice is better than 0 times!

She has copied and pasted notes on badger notes from march to june and not documented any of our discussion about birth planning... She hasn't asked about my weight at all, or pregnancy vitamins. She didn't send my blood tests to my gp so they wouldn't prescribe me iron when I was anaemic until I harassed them, and the midwife just ignored my texts about it.

She also hasn't asked me about whether I am experiencing domestic abuse, which she really should have in this day and age!!

But I do have all my appointments booked. She was not difficult when I requested a c-section.

So I shall count my blessings.

Sorry to hear about all the bad experiences with midwives, that's stress you don't need. I always see mine at my GP surgery and she just tells me each time when she wants to see me next and I book it on my way out. So that's been ok.
I'm 30 weeks now and the last couple of days I feel so sore around my ribs and my bump feels harder. I think the baby has moved position because I can feel movements in there but it feels different, like more swooshing that jabs. I've read this is to be expected as they get bigger but I cried all the way to work this morning feeling sorry for myself as the sore ribs is just getting to me. I'm only short so I know baby doesn't have tons of room and is probably just getting longer and needing to stretch out. Anyway I felt better after a little cry.
Hope everyone is holding up ok. Still feels like we have a bit to go but hopefully it goes quickly. Sending love to you all. xx

Butterflytulip · 05/07/2022 11:59

OMG @LaddieCthulu that needs an official complaint!!! It's those midwives that make the news when sadly things go wrong. Don't hesitate to complain. Things won't change for those after you otherwise.

Butterflytulip · 05/07/2022 12:01

I'm almost 31 weeks. 8 weeks to go... and counting down the days !!!
Anyone else just not interested or motivated in working. Iv lost all interest.
I finish up when I'm 37 weeks so have 2 weeks fingers crossed at home to spend time with my toddler before baby arrives. Can't come quick enough !!!!

110APiccadilly · 05/07/2022 12:38

I've found all the individual midwives (and doctors, consultants etc) are lovely, but it's all so disorganised! I'm constantly getting scan times/ dates at the last minute, which is really difficult for work and childcare.

GlitteryGreen · 05/07/2022 12:38

@Butterflytulip Yeah have to admit that now time is shorter until I finish work I definitely feel less motivated - not that I was super motivated before!

Although I'm currently not officially finishing until my due date so actually quite while to go for me really 😂

HaresHoping · 05/07/2022 14:15

I'm fully with you on the motivation bit... I've just put in my request to finish on 10th August by using up my holidays. I feel so tired after doing the bare minimum and just have no desire to be working most of the time... I just want to nap 😂

@LaddieCthulu that is really terrible! Can you request a different midwife?

Attempting to catch up
@Sweetbabydust1989 glad the GTT test was negative. Yes lots of Braxton Hicks, currently in hospital because they were strong and regular, waiting to have my second steroid injection.

@madeleine85 good that the contractions have eased off, these babies are total mischiefs aren't they

@Celyn22 feel for you with the heartburn, mines from the moment I have breakfast up until I go to bed, constant bloody burn in the throat. Hope all goes well with the Doula!

@TurquoiseDreamCatcher glad that they have offered you a rescan, hope she shows her face more for you

@Butterflytulip I didn't think the fourth jab was being offered to pregnant women, just the over 75's and other vulnerable categories?

@Paprikapommes yep constant sweet tooth, I had that when not pregnant though lol

@HaresHoping glad the scan went well, I had one yesterday, but measuring above the top percentile, so GTT test tomorrow, I'm fairly confident it will be negative though

Will move onto the next page now! Lol

Sweetbabydust1989 · 05/07/2022 14:55

@annlee3817 oh gosh I hope you're ok!! I am not 100% sure if mine are or not it's been 9 years since I had my second baby so I feel like a first time mum my belly just keeps going tight and baby is very active.. I also have my first born's cold so I am so run down xx

annlee3817 · 05/07/2022 15:02

@GlitteryGreen I'm the same as you, everything has been booked in as it should and always easily contactable. Shame it's not the same everywhere.

@Butterflytulip yep, feel like I've checked out of work completely, I've got to train my replacement though and a back up

annlee3817 · 05/07/2022 15:05

@Sweetbabydust1989 yeah it's hard isn't it, has been seven years for me, I went in for reduced movements and the monitor was picking up regular tightenings, which I could feel and see, I timed them off the monitor twice for an hour and they were every 2-3 minutes, was the regularity of them that was flagging an issue. They examined me and cervix is soft but posterior. They also did the fetal fibronectin test which thankfully came back low risk, keeping an eye on me though.

The steroid jabs give you a bit of a hot flush, so if you do have to have them, make sure you sleep I something cool

Butterflytulip · 05/07/2022 15:13

@annlee3817 you can book to have it in pharmacies

annlee3817 · 05/07/2022 15:14

@Butterflytulip ah I didn't know that! Thank you

Butterflytulip · 05/07/2022 15:14

@HaresHoping I'm usually my annual leave too and also want to nap every afternoon 😂😂

Em85kk · 05/07/2022 16:41

My last day is 3 weeks on Thursday and it can’t come soon enough! I’m so ready to finish and get everything sorted at home. I’m definitely nesting, but also just want to stay in my house as much as possible!

Sweetbabydust1989 · 05/07/2022 16:43

@annlee3817 that's good to no lovely.. I hoping my little lady settles down looking forward to getting my birth plan started.. on another note my eldest won't be going to his secondary school induction tomorrow he has a raging temperature gutted for him 🥺 xx

TurquoiseDreamCatcher · 05/07/2022 17:12

I have 24 more days until I am on my last shift at work! Woohoo. I'm going at 33 weeks, DD arrived at 35 weeks last time so I'm not taking any chances.

Is anyone suffering with breathlessness? I'm on iron tablets, but I seem to do a huge amount of huffing and puffing. I'm going to mention it to the midwife on Friday when I go for my growth scan/diabetic check.

I've just had a little spending spree on shein (which I normally avoid), I've treated myself to some summery outfits for the impeding heatwave. I've bought some romper suits, which I would never normally have the guts to wear but I don't mind in pregnancy 🤣

madeleine85 · 05/07/2022 17:59

Also catching up!

@annlee3817 hope you are doing ok, and you are out of hospital, resting at home ASAP. So glad that your protein test came back negative, that in itself is huge!

@TurquoiseDreamCatcher that is such a big change for your daughter, but glad that she has something to focus on while you are dealing with the infant days, hopefully it will keep her occupied!

I skipped a in person meeting today to take it on zoom instead, as honestly I think i'm feeling a bit down with strangers telling me that I don't look like i'm due in 6-8 weeks, had another one on a dog walk yesterday. I have been really trying this pregnancy to eat, moderate exercise, and rest, but I am beginning to think that my body comes to around 32 weeks and just slows growing, my appetite goes away and then it all goes wrong. I felt like the 2nd trimester I suddenly got really round, and now I honestly feel smaller again. I have a checkup in 2 days, and a scan in 3 days, so I just want to make it to then and find out what is going on, as had more tightenings/contractions and weirdly shooting boob pains through all of last night. Desperately want to avoid any NICU time with this baby, so I think i'm feeling a bit down/fed up about things. DH keeps telling me that we just need to make it through July, and he is right, but I don't do very well at sitting on my bum doing nothing, especially with a big dog and a toddler!

Anyway, hope you are all doing well. I realised that everyone now in our group should be in the third trimester, and that is so exciting!!!!

Sweetbabydust1989 · 05/07/2022 18:10

@TurquoiseDreamCatcher I am so breathless atm I think it's her head squashing my rib cage xx

madeleine85 · 05/07/2022 18:18

@Sweetbabydust1989 my one was up in my rib cage around 28-30 weeks, but I think has turned now, or has found a better position. It is so uncomfortable when it feels like they are stretching out your ribs!

Sweetbabydust1989 · 05/07/2022 18:23

@madeleine85 I wish my lady will move every scan I have she is still breech I have a scan on Saturday I will be 29 weeks 5 days so hoping she might shift into place due to it being my third pregnancy they can continue to change so annoying I need to breath I can't wear bras as it's even worse so boobs just wobble around atm 😂 xx

legaltigger · 05/07/2022 18:24

I have a horrible feeling baby has turned the wrong way up after being head down for so long :(

madeleine85 · 05/07/2022 18:54

@legaltigger how far along are you? I'm 32 weeks and only started getting kicks in the middle of my ribcage in the last few days, but he could still move back down I think. I think my doula at the birthing class said the last time that to get them head down there were some positions (I think downward dog etc) that you could give a go. It is such a mystery right now, very eagerly waiting for the 32 week scan!

legaltigger · 05/07/2022 18:57

31+1. He's been kicking my ribs for weeks and weeks but it seems to be everywhere else now. Some really stretchy painful movements as well. Hopefully he will turn back. I'd already studied the spinning babies website so I've been sitting on my ball etc. I don't know how well I'll do with the hanging upside down thing because I'm so massive I don't know if I'll be able to get back up! @madeleine85
